Legend of Hyboria: Storm of Might and Magic (No SV, travel the Path of Power and Sorcery in the Hyborian Age)

Or whatever he asked for, he's got the loot.

Intriguing wouldn't you say. A Powerful literate scholar of the older world, who has seen the world of ages past.

He'd be a hell of a conversationalist if he doesn't decide to eat us. Hell it might be an action if you roll well enough.

So are Humans.

The humans have a pretty good win-loss record in Universe against Vampires, Cults of Dagon and other nasty horrors.

I mean sure we're in the Mytos of Lovecraft, but we are also in R.E Howard's world.
Our best chance remains in searching within the perameters we have right now.

We could coordinate with some of the priests in the city to help. This does play a risk of playing into the vampires hands, but having multiple pairs of eyes looking into this matter has benefits.

Well I was going to give you those rolls earlier...but I forgot.

Nero...you have a Mob tell them to do something useful.

The Traders and Merchants that could fleed, fled the city and its problems.

Reward:No more Merchants now it seems.

-[X]Try to meet with the Governor: The Governor is a curious fellow, one that locks himself in his palace like a craven, you wonder if an audience is possible. Cost: 15 DC:??? Reward: You attempt to speak to the Governor. Rolled: D100 => 83+6=89

You looked at the older-looking man.

"You are the man I saw all those years ago…Come, sit, we have far too much to talk about. Alatu."

The Governor gave you a fine smile. "Yes the Vampire gave you quite a shock, he has that effect on people. I should know…I've had something of a working relationship with him for a fair deal of time."

"And how has that gone for you?" You said feeling the sarcasm drip like venom.

"Poorly." He conceded. "Though he's been doing this sort of thing far longer than I?"

"And you thought you could control him? Like all fools." You said. "He promised you much."

"I had no illusion that he would betray me, I personally thought it would come from the Merchants, not the damned priests." He said. "Alas…I still have wealth and the power it can bring. For what little it can give me now."

He shook his head. "Tell me Magi...what do you know about

( To be Continued in the Final Preparation)

-[X]Meat, Mead and Melee: Fuck it all your going to drink and probably get into a fight, it is the way of things.Cost: 0, DC:70 Reward: Go Drinking in a Bar, and hope to win the ensuring Bar Brawl. Rolled: D100 => 48+12=60

"At least I threw the first punch." You said.

-[X]Run Errands: You're going to work for the People, do the Odd Jobs, and get paid.Cost: 0, DC??? Reward: DO Errands, Receive Money! Rolled: D100 => 85+12=97

Peculier, you were delivering a package to the governor, and were told not to open it under any circumstances.

So it was obvious that someone wanted him dead.

One trip to the Night Lady of Argos later and you realized it was a tool of assassination.

"Poisoned Coins…" You said.

"I take a cut and the Poison is washed clean off and you keep the rest." She said.

Reward: +200 Gold.

-[X]The Staking of a Vampire: Vampires are difficult to kill even at the most prepared of hunts, we must even the Odds, hopefully. Cost: 0 DC:??? Reward: Attempt to counteract the Vampire's awesome power with trickery should it awaken. Rolled: D100 => 1+14=15

You laid down to sleep and woke up in a Library, a personal one, and a very fancy man looking at you.

"So your the one trying to kill me…far be it from me to stop you, many have tried but I must ask why would a man seeking knowledge with to murder a man-." He started.

"I would hardly call you a man, and you are not really here are you?" You said.

"The fact I cannot dominate your mind, and that you can see my apparition in it is annoying. That spark of a mind and Soul is powerful." He said walking through a bookshelf.

"Let me guess you are offering me power and knowledge?" You said. "It always comes at a price."

"No…far be it from me to get in the way of a man's search for power and the arcane…In Acharon you would have been accounted as one of the lucky few to get the eyes of a mage from birth and had a higher station." He said.

You nodded. "Indeed, I've learned a great deal on my own, now, why are you talking to me?"

"You are a threat to me, and my own followers, dare I say you are the greatest threat to me and my ambitions…So I am giving you a sporting chance." He said, his eyes glowing in the dim candlelight with a deadly smile, despite not being here at all.

"Know no trick of the Human Mind can stop me…and that all manners of preparation is a farce. This is merely a battle between you and I." He said. "The rest is mere side entertainment."

"Prepare well Hunter, should you best me, know that you will never find true respite, Varnae knows your name and will not stop until you are turned or destroyed." He said.

"Looking forward to you are your's to try." You said somewhat wavering in your voice.

Critical Failure: The Vampire has prepared and identified you as the greatest threat to his life.

He has taken precautions and will be hunting you specifically during the battle.

-[X]Search for Clues and Signs: Mages, Sorcerors, and Warlocks are always hidden in places that fear them, this isn't Stygia or Great Khatai, they aren't the ruling class. Perhaps one of these hidden sorcerors can be found…or the remnant of one. Cost: 0, DC:??? Reward: Search for the Hidden Places of Power. Rolled: D100 => 91+10=101
Hidden Place Quality: D100 => 98

You sighed as the apparition vanished. "I'm dead…I'm fucking dead!"

This place has too many secrets to learn, and not enough time to learn them all.

You sighed. "Ibis…I don't pray to you, can never say the words, but I beg of you, give me a path forward so I may end this madness!"

A Gust of Wind came through the Vampire's Library…and the final candle was extinguished.

Alone in the Dark.

"Etheral Light" you said feeling the mana drain as the small light started to fly around you like a candle.

Well…you didn't expect this.

The Vampire in his arrogance gave you everything you needed.

(Continued in The Final Preparations)

Disaster Roll: D100 => 90

"Half the City is on fire," Emia said. "I say we are nearing the end of this waiting…now the hunt will begin."

"He's making a battleground of his choosing?" You said.

"Indeed, soon he will have ways to beat us…effectively."

Reward: You've run out of time…soon the battle will begin. Two Turns until the Vampire starts a battle on his terms.

Mana Recovery: D6 => 6

You feel…powerful.

(To be revealed in The Final Preparation)

AN: Well, The Vampire makes his move and Alatu FINALLY gets the Run down of the Plot of the story he's in.

Finally…he can train his Mage skills properly.

This is not good, but not as bad as it could have been, the vamp is gunning for us and half the city is on fire but we did get a real nice roll on the mayor and access to some really important magical information. And 200 gold!

Just have to kill the superman of mosquitos.

Next turn is going to be painful for Alatu but I think we might be able to pull this off yet. Shame about the barfight roll though.

The Final Preparation Part 1
The Final Preparation Part 1

(Alatu POV)

"The Storm is getting closer." You said as you approached the manor that was the palace.

"I am expected." You said calmly looking at the guards and seeing the uncertainty in their faces.

You were half walked, half dragged to an opulent room smelling of something sweet and aromatic.

Cinnamon…from the east.

The Room itself was covered in fine silks, sheets of bronze and gold with little statues and more…he was very wealthy.

Wealthier than your own father if you had to guess and he was a ruler of a city state in the Great Lands of Stygia. The Man was large, but not fat, no he was built like a large gladiator that got bigger in order to bleed more on the arena.

You had to clean up after men like him a long time ago. His thone was made of Marble, with comfortable pillows and bed slaves to tend to him, and yet he sat on it with the unease of an uncertain crown.

This madness was his doing, and yet all you could do was play the part now.

You looked at the older-looking man.

"You are the man I saw all those years ago…Come, sit, we have far too much to talk about. Alatu." He said with all the confidence of a lord.

He knew your name, and with it likely where you hid, you hoped that he didn't know any more, for both your sakes. "The Vampire that sleeps in the catacombs under the city…I saw him sleeping."

The Governor gave you a fine smile. "Yes the Vampire gave you quite a shock, he has that effect on people. I should know…I've had something of a working relationship with him for a fair deal of time."

You raised an eyebrow. HE KNEW THIS THING!

Has he not any idea of the dangers? What possessed him to even THINK of doing anything like this?

Every death now was on his hand, and he knew it, and now you knew it.

"And how has that gone for you?" You said feeling the sarcasm drip like venom.

"Poorly." He conceded. "Though given the game and circumstances he's been doing this sort of thing far longer than I?"

"And you thought you could control him, BARGIN with him? Like all fools who think they have power." You said. "He promised you much and more."

"I had no illusion that he would betray me, I personally thought it would come from the Merchants, not the damned priests and their ilk." He said. "Alas…I still have wealth and the power it can bring. For what little it can give me now."

"We'd need to bring your army, Argos's army and possibly more…you know the damned procedure it is written that if a Vampire rules the city from the shadow they are near impossible to unlodge! Set's FANGS MAN! You still think you can win this with subterfuge and money alone! You are more arrogant than I thought." You said.

He once again conceded. "I have done much and more to bring this issue to heal, I have dragged him and weakened him with holy symbols, and marked his coffin with seals, I had beaten him and made him my prisoner and advisor!"

"And yet he rules the night and burns your city." You said. "Why should I even bother, your digging this grave why shouldn't I be the one to bury you in it."

He smiled. "Because I can offer your knowledge and power, that's all you really want, its the naked truth for you…not out of any heroic morality of good, or work of the gods, you just want power."

"And you want to live to the next sunrise to make the same mistakes again. What can you even offer to help? Your life is forfeit anyway. If not by my hand, then the hands of the people who live here, they already hate you for abandoning them." You said.

"Oh that is where you are wrong…they will think this was all part of the plan to save them from this creature of the night, the trade will flow again, they will be rich and I will rule over them." He said.

He shook his head. "Tell me Magi...what do you know about politics and convincing people to die for you, you were nothing more than a slave, a fool born to die for someone else…"

You clenched your fist. "Fine…you want to be useful to me…tell me what you offer to help with this little execution of sin?"

"A Hundred and Thirty Khuran Skirmishers with spears and shortswords. All I need you to do is kiss my ring and pay homage." He said.

Hmm, let's think about this, think about what we HAVE.

The Night Lady of Argos, has nearly Six and Thirty men, all skilled in things from housebreaking to highwayman banditry.

Then there is the Preist and his Mob…anywhere from thirty to One-hundred men and men and women of dubious skill and quality. Plus about 20 or so guards from his shrine.

The Coven…well they had seven or eight people if you counted yourself among them.

Against an enemy who likely had well over-.

Well shit…you didn't even know how many men the damn cult had?

"How did you know my name?" You said.

"I have my ways…I am the one who rules this city. Now…the choice is yours."

You had to choose now.

What now?:

[]Kiss the Ring: You didn't have much of a choice, given the Odds you were facing, any more advantages help…even if it's despicable, and dishonest, you were facing the unknown. And more bodies are needed to beat it.

[]Spit in his Face: He was the cause of all of this. "You will find no path to power through me…bastard. When the Vampire is dead…I'm coming for you next, with the entire City at my back to deal with you."

AN: First our meeting with the Governor, he's a despicable piece of shit, but you need more soldiers to deal with the Vampire support group.

And I finally show you what you actually have in terms of your little "Raid Party"

Note, Hunting a Vampire is a Community Affair…you should know this.

But its hard when part of the Community is actively helping the problem.

[X]Kiss the Ring: You didn't have much of a choice, given the Odds you were facing, any more advantages help…even if it's despicable, and dishonest, you were facing the unknown. And more bodies are needed to beat it.

He's a bastard, but he's a bastard I'm willing to tolerate in the name of killing this vampire. Total force would be 294 people, plus us is 295, which means we probably have a decent force to bring to bear against the vampire.

[X]Spit in his Face: He was the cause of all of this. "You will find no path to power through me…bastard. When the Vampire is dead…I'm coming for you next, with the entire City at my back to deal with you."

Nah he probably would backstab us. Plus sometimes spite can do wonder.

Kill the vampire, kill the governor, and take this city for our own. Be a King by our own hand. . .

Identify Ring Origin
You nodded and took to a single knee. "Get it over with you smug bastard."
DC:85/95/100
He smiled. "And so I will keep the pomp to a minimum."
Rolled: D100 + 14 => 95
The ringed hand was raised as you looked at it and then kissed the ring.
Reward: Conversation with the Vampire Unlocked.
"See, was that so hard." He said.

"I feel violated." You said.

"Such is the way of things." He said. "If we have nothing more to discuss."

He waved you away as you turned to leave.

-------------------------------------

You didn't feel like sleeping in the Inn tonight so you wandered the city wondering and thinking about what to do next.

Alas…you were but a fool.

One man cannot fight the world.

You threw a few coins at a beggar and sighed. "I am the worse sort of beggar in the world arn't I?"

The wind howled as you went along the night air, and found a inn on the other side of the city, at least here you wouldn't be recognized.

"Room for the night." You said.

---------------------

You laid down to sleep and woke up in a Library, a personal one, and a very fancy man looking at you.

"So your the one trying to kill me…far be it from me to stop you, many have tried but I must ask why would a man seeking knowledge with to murder a man-." He started.

"I would hardly call you a man, and you are not really here are you?" You said noting immediately the energy in the room.

If he were really here, you would be in a sense of primal fear and terror, not the brazen tired bravery of now.

"Alas, I am not awake, but my strength has returned enough to interact with my magics." He said.

You nodded. "A professional mage in this day and age? Very intelligent and interesting."

He nodded. "And you have found power above your station and fled, similar to myself."

"We are nothing alike." You said feeling your skin shiver.

"On the contrary, we are very much alike, though I can safely say that I have never seen a former slave so diligently studying the arcane in such a way." He said. "You have more talent in your hand then many aspiring sorcerors of the Acheron Empire."

He was flattering you. "I may have so, but I am only beginning such a journey."

"Indeed." He said waving a hand causing the fires and candles to light.

"Now…shall we discuss the world, I'm interested in finally discussing the world with someone who I actually consider close to an equal." He said somewhat lying.

"You're condescending. You'd never consider me an equal." You said.

He smiled. "Indeed."

"But it has been long since I've given a proper lesson to a student of the Arcane. I was well-traveled and studied in my time, to be apart of the wider institutions of my day…I'm being nostalgic." He said.

You raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

"Because you are the first human to actually be a threat to my life in centuries and not be a boot licking bastard or a scheming cunt. Its refreshing to see someone actually dangerous and wish to defeat me for non-political aims…" He said.

You nodded. "I just wanted you dead so I can keep sleeping in the Inn with the Ishtar Priestisess."

He nodded before pulling out a Chair. "I will not blame you for something like that."

You sat in the chair across from him.

"So my Child, what do you wish to know from me." He said.

----------------------------------

What do you ask him about?:
(You have 4 question you can ask him)

[]The Govoner's Ring: You think mentioning the Governor's Ring will give…something you didn't know.

[]His Past: Who was he? Before the Vampirism.

[]His Plans: He clearly didn't go through all this trouble to take a city for the kicks?

[]Write in.

AN: Enjoy.

Also the Vampire is more polite then the Govenor, who knew.
