Holding out for Hope (No SV, Hold Out until the Hero Actually Shows Up)

Ahhh I see I see. And are any family members attending there
Most of their family is dead. If they have other relatives alive they don't know.
And how did things get so bad?
Government oversight took a dive after the may corporate wars took their toll on their everything.

It's not that they don't want to fix the problem…they just passed the point of no return three wars ago.

The only reason the PC and almost anyone who survived the war is even alive is The Earth using what little capital it has left to send you into the periphery as wage slaves instead of killing you.

So yeah they are the reason anyone is able to do anything at all, from rebellion to breaking away.

(Adam POV)

"So...the Commies are killing each other...the Corps are gonna ride this high for as long as possible. And we've got the situation in space dealing with anyone." You said.

Jen looked up from the TV. "Pretty much? No one asks to be part of a Communist revolution, and most of the time its power comes from the barrel of a gun. Plus its a rigged game anyway."

"What about Democracies?" You said.

"Somewhat rigged, they don't start rigged they just get rigged overtime," Jen said.

"So… it's going to be a mess." You said.

"Yeah." Cain said walking into the room. "So you think the Ship is gonna take long to be fixed?"

"Not as long as you think." You said. "But its a situation is gonna make us have to work fast."

"Well, at least we're gonna make it?" Cain said.

--------------------------------------------

[X]Repair the Ship: Your finally going to fix that ship and get off this rock. Cost:500 Reward: You repair the Ship and prepare to leave. Rolled: D100 => 95

(Cain POV)

"You said we needed to replace the Coils?" You said calmly looking over the ship.

"Yeah, that will get us star side, and able to do short distances to an open port...witch is the Groundbreaker." Adam said.

"I get that, and I've been there a few times, you got anywhere else? I mean besides Monarch." You said.

"You don't get out do you? The Big Ports aren't the only ones running around." He said.

He was insulting your intelligence, and saying you weren't well-traveled. Well, you weren't...boohoo.

"Enlighten me...considering I don't go out much." You said.

"Well let me tell you a bit about the rest of the world." He said.

"What rest of the World? The Settlements are all corporate-backed and assholes to each other, what else could there be?" You said not even caring about what he was saying but still somewhat curious.

Adam seemed to smile at that. "The rest of the World the Corps can't even see."

"Pardon?" You said.

"It's a Solar System Cain, its got a Belt, Moons on Gas Giants they don't or refuse to Notice. There are a lot of places to hide and prosper." He said.

"Such as?" You said.

"Well, off the top of my head. We have Monarch the largest moon on Olympus, but they are under Blockade."He said as he then sighed.

"We have the Small moon of Tesla also under Olympus, got very little on it, its an industrial Hub of sorts...makes black market ship parts for most tramp freighters. Very hard to get to, legally they are under UDL in theory." He said.

"But in Practice have gone a little rogue." You guessed.

"Nah...become essentially a Ruler in all but name of his little fiefdom paying lip service to the board, yes." He said. "As long as he keeps sending parts to the UDL, Rockwell keeps a light hand on certain loyal subordinates...like what's her name?"

"Akande." You said.

"Yeah like her...but he pays a tithe of ship parts and makes everyone happy." He said.

"Just a UDL Vassel State that's just great."You said.

"I'm not done yet, We've got the Twin Moons of Eredonos Hestia and Helana. Hestia is One of those...what do you call them, middle-income housing and Workplaces. You know where they shove all the Middle Managers and whatnot that are too rich to be working class but too poor to live in Byzantium." He said.

"Sounds nice." You said.

"It is a reasonable place...even if they are all cutthroat assholes to each other." He said.

"What about Helana?" You asked.

"Oh Helana's a Pirate and Gambling Den...at least the Big City on its know for gambling, Mercenaries, and being a violent place to live." He said.

"Why would Eridanos let a pirate den operate so close to them?" You asked.

"Most of those Pirates want money, so they muscle up with the Corps and live off-the-table scaps they're given...I can't wait to go back there and piss away some bits at the Casino and pay off my ship." He said.

"Hold up… you're in debt?" You said.

"Not the Bits kind, the blood kind, I finally paid it off and only need to confirm the other side's part in the bargain." He said waxing Nastolgic.

" You seem to know alot about it?" You said.

"I was born there to a prostitute and ship captain, I inherited a blood debt that needed paying...now I'm free, just need to confirm it." He said.

"Anyone else in the Runnings for a least shitty place in Halcyon?" You said.

"Well, beyond those there is Cent Station?" He said taking off his hat and sighing.

"Eh...what kind of place is that?" You asked.

"A Very quiet one and we like it that way...its a Tramp Station, built into one of the Old Mining outposts, we turned it into a makeshift shipyard and well if it ain't the Groundbreaker crews or Helana its the next best thing." He said.

"Wow...I didn't expect Halcyon to be so damned big?" You said.

"It is...now passes that coil...we are going to fix this thing." He said.

"What do we call her?" You said.

"Dawn Runner." He said.

You looked at the people and gave your speech. "How many of you don't want to waste your lives in a Cannery?"

No one stepped forward and made their opinion know...but you expected it and sighed. "Great...can't expect these lower-class wage slaves to understand their own opinions. Or even have them...Worthless illiterates."

Then you felt a tap on your shoulder. "Not now Jen, I'm venting over the fact everyone here is incompetent."

A Big hand squeezed your shoulder and then punched you.

"What the hell?" You said.

"You're an idiot kid. Now you may think that everyone else here is an illiterate wage slave but most of us don't have a choice?" He said.

His face was strong and dignified...he was a Marine.

"Student Malita, Pegasus Sector." You said.

"Independence League Marine Corps , New Douglas Harbor, Pegasus Sector." He said.

"I didn't think anyone else from that sector made it here?" You said trying to stop the swelling on your face.

"I've got a handful of guy's wasting away here and I don't want them to."He said.

"I'm sure we can come to an arrangement." You said.

"Rank?" He said.

"Doctor...but not that kind of Doctor." You said.

"First Lieutenant, one of the few officers that made it that didn't get tapped by the Corps or the Mercs." He said. "I've got eight guys I don't want to die down here. Can you manage?"

"Yes." You said. "Its gonna be a squeeze though."

Reward: Nothing is happening.

These rolls are so good sometimes it's crazy.

All the more reason to expect uor eventual fall with rolling 10 natural 1s. The communists will have a field day.

Not with the Surprising Competence of Spacer's Choice stopping them!!
Spacer's choice....the admiral who rolled really high? I went to sleep and forgot alot of things.

Edgewater is doomed, but its not our Problem anymore.
Well it was to be expected. The backwater of a backwater had no real way to survive incoming attacks, but I still wish we could help it some, Even if only to defend against the communists once more. They don't deserve to be overrun.

No your thinking about Carlile...speaking of witch better check in on him when we get the chance.
I don't know who Carlile is, but if he's got a ship, he's okay by me. Also by the way, will we ever get actions to like.....research and develop something? it might be a worthwhile venture since our guy Cain is a scientist and all, jsut saying. (Also, what does Ck2 mean?)

Don't worry about them...they should be fine...the Communist Commander isn't really as good at war as you think.
Ah, so when you siad it was doomed, you meant it was doomed, but jsut a very, very slow death from being in poverty? Or was it that the CC would cal in reinforcements to help them takeover Edgewater?

Man, we've got a assault team now and a darn nice squad leader. Sweet.
Yep. I'm hopign the next set of rolls has a 1, so we can experience some real pain.
Or, you know, rolling a 100 on the disaster roll. That'd be fun too.

Ah, so when you siad it was doomed, you meant it was doomed, but jsut a very, very slow death from being in poverty?
Yes to this.
Also by the way, will we ever get actions to like.....research and develop something? it might be a worthwhile venture since our guy Cain is a scientist and all, jsut saying. (Also, what does Ck2 mean?)
Yes...we just need to leave Edgewater and finally make some project notes.

Emerald Vale Stories

No News.

Olympus

Monarch: d100 => 95

With the Board preoccupied with the war in the Stars, the Blockade is fairly weak and seeing opprtunity is the biggest thing that can come from it.

Wildcat smugglers, survivalists, political refugee's army deserters, PMC's and the like, all going and running to Monarch, trying to get a piece of the pie to call their own and ride out the board's political and military chokehold across Halcyon.

These Range from the Pegasus Sector's Democracy League to the Dedicated Communist Revolutionaries of the Blackfoot Sector.

Each makes landfall to Monarch to War for the Terraformed crown of the Halcyon System.

Reward: Monarch is a changing.

Steller Bay: D100 => 37

With the Amber Hights Massacre in such recent memory, Sanjar Nandi struggles to maintain control of his Citadel of the MSI of Steller Bay.

The Now Cheif Executive of the now rebranded Monarch Steller Industries has a great deal of danger on his plate.

From the Wildlife to the Iconoclasts to Political Radicals on all sides. Monarch's Jewel and major city now faces its greatest challenge.

Survival…

Reward: Steller Bay holds against the tide...for now.

The Iconoclasts: d100 => 13

If Steller Bay was having trouble, then the Iconoclasts were in Crisis.

Graham Bryant had promised that despite the fact they would be cut off they could spread their Anti-Board Message and control the raw resources of Monarch to finance their War.

Yeah, that's not working out for anyone, isn't it...Graham.

Reward: The Iconoclasts are struggling with all the competition trying to butt into their war with MSI.

Tesla: 10

If one were to Ask Arcturus Morgan what he thought about the situation, he'd tell Rockwell to go to hell.

It was a fools errand to let all the Soldiers and the weapons not be seized, but now the Board had a crisis unlike any that could ever be seen.

They were threatening to Strike...so he laid off every tenth men as a warning and shot the ones that didn't show up.

He thought about better things.

More Ambitious things.

Reward: Morgan plans...even as his situation grows tense.

Monarch Stories:

The Monarch Landrush begins!: With the Situation in the Blockade being slow to establish, people are running to Monarch to claim a piece of it all and forge their own destiny.

Political Extremists Arrive on Monarch: The Homegrown MSI terrorists are not the only force running around the Moon, Political terrorists of all stripes are fleeing to the Moon to gather resources kill each other and use it to war amongst the stars.

Among these radicals is Political Anarchist Wei Anders,

Communist Revolutionary Fredrich Karlo.

And Noted Freelance Mercenary Desmond Carter.

Jen: Is that my Uncle?

Cain: He's not dead...could be one of his body doubles.

Ben: Huh, well shit...someone's running.

Adam: Yeah, I know a few smuggler types that just love selling their shit to those types.

------------------------

Eridanos: d100 => 68

Spectrum Red releases to the Public.

Reward: The situation is making them very very rich.

Hestia: D100 => 40

Nothing to really report.

---------------------

The Groundbreaker: d100 => 97

"Ms. Tennyson...My Name is Arthur C. Federov. I'm here to tell you about a little game I like to call, Astroid Hollowing. We both know that we all need a plan B in case the board gets leverage over us all. I'm here to make sure that does not happen...."

Reward: The Groundbreaker gets some...fresh ideas for their policymaking.

Gorgon: d100 => 69

Adrena-Time has been released to the public.

Reward: Marauders will now be a bigger problem.

--------------------

Byzantium: d100 => 15

Total Radio Silance.

The Board: D100 => 97

"Well Lett, you've passed our examination with flying colors."

"We've charted a ship, crew and the best equipment money can buy."

Reward: Lett is out and about.

If you want to know more about what happened I'll give the short version.

They eliminated The Directory Legislature (Read most of the Noncorporate government that was meant to keep an eye on them). The governor is still alive but he has no political allies to speak of.

The Board is now...more or less the Government now…more then it already was.

God help us all.

--------------------

Dr Phinies Wells: d100 => 68

Wells has yet to make a breakthrough.

Reward: He continues to work on a solution.

An now a Word from the Warfront!

Battle Against THE TRAITOR CARLILE!!

UDL Defence Fleet!+ Pirates: D100 + 25 => 99

Vs

Rogue Monarch Defence Fleet: D100 + 30 => 130

(Carlie POV)

They were putting up a better fight then you anticipated.

"Midshipman, quarter port and broadside that gunboat." You ordered.

"AYE!"

It was already such a long day away.

SO much had been lost already.

When this battle started you had 75 ships. Now you had 61…

They were putting up a better fight than you gave them credit for doing.

But they were still not soldiers...not men of war.

They came at you with nearly 55 gunships and left with 25.

You knew they were going to keep throwing things at you until your command fell to dust.

So be it…but you recalled they were asking for it.

Reward:The Admiral still fights on.

AN: Well things are heating up.

YEAH CARLILIE! BEAT 'EM DOWN! I knew our allies were too strong to be meddled with by those paltry pirates.

In other news, oh sh*t. Our nemesis was apparently very effective in doing his job, so much tha the was not only allowed to leave, but wa appplauded by the board and given a ship and crew iwth the finest equipmnet money could buy, and not only that, but somehow the corporations have...become the government? Which government? And
Or, you know, rolling a 100 on the disaster roll. That'd be fun too.
I was close in predicting what happened. More importanly we need to invest stocks into Red Spectrum somehow. Oh and Jen's uncle is important or something.

(Cain POV)

"So we can leave at any time?" You said looking at the ship.

"Yeah. It'll be a tight squeeze but I think we can fully enjoy the fruits of traveling around anymore." Adam said.

"Alright, we're packed up. We'll be leaving on your word, you've saved us for debt slavery. Sure we'll be wanted men, but I'm sure that it's better than wasting your life in a Cannery." Ben said looking at the Dawn Runner.

"Is that thing safe?" Jen said as she looked at all the patchworks on it that was needed just to make it work.

"Well, she's been hit by Pirate Guns and is still flying...so yeah, I can safely say that its safe." Adam said. "Mostly."

Doesn't anyone want to help Edgewater a bit, before we leave?

Don't you take pity on the place that has been home for about 3 to 4 weeks?

I feel they should be grateful we don't try to burn the place down as we leave.
