So no thoughts on the charms I posted?

Not sure who's looking for a new VEE tree, these days. I'm certainly not.

But I hate it when my own work gets ignored so I'll give it a look-see.

Overall, seems better than the original. Assuming I remember the original correctly. I have mostly minor nibbling criticisms.

Complete rework of Cecelyne's VEE charm tree. Worried the first three charms are too weak for their cost, and that the last 2 are too strong.

Verdant Emptiness Endowment
Cost: 10m, 1wp

Mins: Essence 3

Type: Simple

Keywords: Illusion, Emotion, Obvious

Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: First Cecelyne Excellency, Transcendent Desert Creature

Few beings are as they would choose to be. Certainly, Cecelyne would rather that her inner borders were not fettered to Malfeas. Where dissatisfaction endures, emptiness spreads the idea of the Endless Desert. Prior to using this Charm, the character must have observed the target beseeching some higher power for a boon or service.. The prayer does need not be articulated with any intention of seeking it's fulfillment or even seriously, but it must unambiguous.

When this charm is activated, the target immediately knows that something has heard them, and may spend 1wp to reject it's activation.

If the target does not reject this gift, than the Infernal has a year and a day to fulfil their wish.

Should the Infernal succeed within a year and a day, then the target gains an intimacy of "reverence" towards the Infernal which cannot be removed or eroded for as long as the target benefits from the Infernal's gift.

To remove this intimacy they target must spend 4wp and symbolically reject the gifts of the Infernal. One who wished for fortune may burn down his opulent mansion or a peerless swordsman may choose to remove their pinky. Regardless of how it is done, the manifests mechanically as the character losing access to whatever benefit the use of this charm gave them.

No apostrophe on a possessive its.

Does seem rather weak. I think most people would revere you if you granted their deepest wishes, even without magic.

Cost: -

Mins: Essence 4

Type: Simple, Permanent, Touch

Keywords: Obvious, Descecration

Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: Verdant Empress Endowment

This charm acts as an upgrade to Verdant Empress Endowment, allowing the Infernal to cure any sickness currently affecting the target. Targets gain the creature of darkness mutation.

Emptiness, not Empress.

You misspelled Desecration.

Not entirely sure how this meant to work. If this allows the Infernal to include sickness-curing in their initial VEE activation, does that mean the target can reject it for 1wp? Can they renounce it later? And what's the Touch keyword doing? Can you turn someone into a CoD if they aren't sick, or if they are sick but prayed for something else?

Regardless, this one seems plenty strong to me.

Blessing of Cecelyne
Cost: -

Mins: Essence 4

Type: Simple, Permanent

Keywords: Obvious, Desecration

Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: Laying on of Hands

This charm further enhances it's prerequisite. Verdant Empress Endowment may now be used to treat crippling injuries, replacing wounded flesh. This gives the target up to 5 thematically appropriate mutations as a training effect. Eyes may be with Azure orbs, broken arms may grow a bug like exoskeleton, etc. Such mutations are of obviously Cecelyian origin.

Rejecting this gift deals 1hl of damage in addition to its usual effects.

Again, no apostrophe in a possessive its. And it's Emptiness, not Empress. Also, I think you meant "become Azure orbs" and "Cecelynian" origin.

Raises more or less the same questions as its prereq. Plus, can you just hand out endless free mutations with this?

High Holy Day Ritual
Cost: -

Mins: Essence 4

Type: Simple, Permanent

Keywords: Obvious

Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: Verdant Empress Endowment, Penitents like Scattered Grains

This charm acts as an upgrade to Verdant Empress Endowment. If a group of up to (Infernal's Essence) magnitude makes a successful prayer roll to the Infernal in which they express dislike of their present circumstances and desire for some improvement or change the Warlock may activate this charm to target the entire group with Verdant Empress Endowment. Characters in the group may pay 1 wp to reject this boon as per normal. Doing so rejects the boon for all participants and is obvious. All involved know who ruined the prayer.

Emptiness, not Empress. Extra space between they and express.

I'd be inclined to fold this into the base Charm, minus the option to mass-heal people. Seems kinda weak if you're not doing that, but probably too easy if you are.

Herald of the Endless Desert
Cost: -

Mins: Essence 4

Type: Simple, Permanent

Keywords: Obvious

Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: Verdant Empress Endowment

This charm allows the Infernal to summon a demon in answer to prayer, in lieu of acting herself. When presented an opportunity to target someone with Verdant Empress Endowment, the Infernal may instead choose to summon 1 demon that they know. This demon is taskbound to fulfill the target's wish and will do so to the best of its ability. It is not under the control of the Infernal.

Summoning the demon counts as fulfilling the targets prayer and gives them an intimacy of "reverence" to the Infernal as if the Infernal had granted whatever boon they desired. However, should the demon die before it succeeds in its task, or should it's task take more than a year and a day then the target can erode this intimacy as if they had already spent 4wp to reject it.

By learning this charm the Infernal gains a demon species and may purchase additional ones for 1xp each.

Again, Emptiness. And its, not it's.

How much does it cost to summon the demon? Normal VEE price?

Also another addition to my Elloge Shirou charms which is meant to allow you to do things like turn your Dailkave of conquest but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work so I could use a lot of help with that.

Not familiar with the Elloge stuff, I'm afraid.

@rogthnor Sorry this took a while. I've been busy and wanted to give this a thorough response.

Your VEE and upgrades seem weaker and less flexible than the original. I think it might be helpful to look at existing Solar charms for inspiration.

To me, VEE seems like Cecelyne's version of Knowing the Soul's Price. The original version trades a heart's desire for loyalty, but Cecelyne doesn't want loyalty, she wants compliance. Thus the lesser gift of a wish for the lesser reward of a task.

For Laying on Hands and Blessing of Cecelyne: Solars have Instant Treatment Methodology to instantly do medical actions, and Ailment-Rectifying Method, Body-Purifying Admonitions, and Wholeness-Restoring Meditation to fix Sickness, Poison, and Crippling effects.

High Holy Day seems inappropriate somehow. Cecelyne's VEE tree is her Training tree, and it trades versatility and speed for only being able to target one person at a time.

Herald of the Endless Desert breaks the one/day demon summoning rule. You should be able to use demons to fulfill wishes with the base charm.

VERDANT EMPTINESS ENDOWMENT
Cost: 10m, 1wp ; Mins: Essence 2; Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Combo-OK
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: First Cecelyne Excellency
  • Made in response to a wish for self-improvement made by another character (target)
  • The Infernal makes a silent promise to grant that request, which the target can reject by spending 1 wp
  • The Infernal must grant the request themselves (giving resources, introducing a prospective archer to a teacher, killing the man who killed the target's husband, healing their child etc) within a year and a day
  • Upon granting the request the promise is sealed and the target owes the infernal a favour
  • At any point in future the Infernal can ask the target to complete one task, which may last up to a month in duration
  • If task is understand, the target instinctively understands that refusing the task will result in their doom
  • If the target stops working towards the task for more than a day he suffers botches equal to the Infernal's Essence rating (This works like a broken Eclipse Oath)
  • The task is considered completed if it becomes impossible or becomes an Unacceptable Order

AS YOU WISH
Cost: - (5m) ; Mins: Essence 2; Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Combo-OK
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Verdant Emptiness Endowment
The wish to be whole is one that the Endless Desert knows all too well. In response to a wish pertaining to a target's physical well-being, the Infernal rolls (Charisma+Medicine). If she rolls at least five successes on this roll she may spend 5m to instantly cure the target's affliction in an unseen swirl of silver sand. Each charm this charm is purchased, the Infernal gains the ability to cure one of the following afflictions:
  • Sickness effects
  • Poison effects
  • Crippling effects

SCOURED PERFECTION OF FORM
Cost: - ; Mins: Essence 3; Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Combo-OK, Training, Desecration
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Verdant Emptiness Endowment
This charm permanently improves its prerequisite, allowing the Infernal to directly and instantly modify the target traits. Upon hearing the wish, the Infernal may:
  • Grant a single dot in an Attribute, Ability or specialty that pertains to the expressed wish
  • Grant up a single mutation that fulfills the expressed desire, so long as it fits the aesthetics of the Endless Desert. The first time a character gains a mutation from this charm, he also gains the Creature of Darkness negative mutation, which may mitigate the mutation's experience cost. The Infernal may grant the effects of Transcendent Desert Creature as an abomination of the same name.
  • Remove a pre-existing mutation, converting the trait back into experience.
Changes made by this charm appear of the course of a scene, fast enough to be miraculous but slow enough that no one has to know the source of the blessing.

For the Elloge charm: You've created a way to permanently destroy artifacts while ensuring that the Infernal can never have them taken away from them. Maybe use the Elloge sealing charms to tattoo the artifact the infernal, then let them manifest the artifacts ala Dread Panoply of the Silent Wind. Something that let's you use a stored item without taking it out of the tattoo by paying 1m?

Is this helpful?

>TFW no hummingbird in Lunars

Behold, my attempts at homebrewing the statblock for a hummingbird based off some of the other creatures in the Lunars preview:

Hummingbird
Essence: 1; Willpower: 1; Join Battle: 5 dice Health Levels: 0/−1/−2/−4/Incap
Actions: Find Flowers: 8 dice; Fly: 14 dice; Senses: 7 dice; Threaten: 4 dice
Resolve 1, Guile 2
Combat Combat Movement: 8 dice
Attack (beak jousting) 6 dice (Damage 1B)
Evasion 5 (see Minuscule Size), Parry 1 Soak/Hardness: 1/0
Special Abilities
Minuscule Size: +3 Evasion against larger foes' attacks. Against foes with the Tiny Creature Merit, this drops to +2 Evasion (normally this would also have minuses to awareness, but hummingbirds are loud)
Hovering Flight: A hummingbird may fly forwards, backwards, straight up, or straight down at it's full movement speed.
Merits
Agile flyer: Double nines on disengage, withdraw, and rush rolls.

So first of all, thank you both so much for the feedback, I'm working on some revisions now.

Thank you so much for the comments. Definitely agreed that the cost needs to be rebalanced, the intial charm is too expensive without upgrades, but with them it becomes to cheap. Will work on that rewording.

As for being too weak, this is not meant to be a heart's desire thing, just an answer to any prayer. Whether that be for a good harvest or just a "God damn you!". Will try to make that clearer.

All these charms are meant to work as upgrades to the original VEE, so cost and rejection is the same. Will try to make that clearer. Am also considering paring the tree down extensively, moving High holy days into the base VEE and moving the training stuff into the Locust Charm trees like @QafianSage did, leaving this with just the demon summoning and the initial reverence. I'm worried that the tree is too short then thouhg.

It was very helpful. To the point about VEE being her training charms, while this is definitely something I want to keep, I also very much want to tie it back into her themes. Cecelyne is law and religions, and I always found the evil genie stuff a really boring thematic. The cornerstone of this change is moving VEE from a magically enforced debt to something which enforces worship. Then the healing stuff was meant to feed into the whole "laying on of hands thing" before moving to granting mutations as a general upgrade.

@rogthnor the way I look at it is that "Religion is the opiate of the masses, and Cecelyne is a drug dealer." She can already enforce worship by using "Worship me for a month" as the VEE task, and then let Temple Self Apotheosis hook them.

It's fair if you want to change it though.

Minor changes to the VEE stuff to respond to comments

Verdant Empress Endowment

Should the Infernal succeed then the target gains an intimacy of "reverence" towards the Infernal which cannot be removed or eroded for as long as the target benefits from the Infernal's gift.

A second purchase of this charm allows the Infernal to target groups of up to (The Infernal's Essence) magnitude with this charm and all it's upgrades for a surcharge of 1wp. Groups so targeted must be praying together as a unit and must all be in the same location, the Infernal explicitly cannot target a groups worth of disparate supplicants nor can she target two seperate groups with one activation of this charm.

Characters in the group may pay 1 wp to reject this boon during it's activation. Doing so rejects the boon for all participants and is Obvious. All involved are made instantly aware of who among them betrayed their hopes and crushed their dreams.

To remove the intimacy granted by this charm the target must spend 1wp and symbolically reject the gifts of the Infernal. Groups who wished for fortune may be forced to burn their fields or a peerless swordsman may choose to remove their pinky. Regardless of how it is done, the manifests mechanically as the character(s) losing access to whatever benefit the use of this charm gave them. Members of a group targeted by this charm may remove this charm individually.

Scoured Perfection Of Form
Cost: —

Mins: Essence 3

Type: Permanent

Keywords: Desecration

Duration: Permanent

Prerequisite Charms: Verdant Empress Endowment

This Charm expands the scope of its prerequisite, allowing that Charm to bestow permanent mutations as an alternative to other traits. The mutations in question must fulfill a desire, though they can do so in ways the supplicant never imagined or wanted. For example, it is necessary to become a creature of darkness for the Desecration to do anything else, so any desire to be changed automatically makes that mutation permissible. Moreover, the changes must suit the aesthetics of the Endless Desert, incorporating only those physical characteristics suited for dwelling within her and mental changes congruent with her law.

Any single permissible mutation may be given by each application of this Charm, within the normal limits of Verdant Emptiness Endowment and the Desecration keyword. All of the effects of Transcendent Desert Creature may be given as an Abomination with the same name.

As long as this gift remains the target may not erode their intimacy of "reverence" towards the Infernal. As per VEE, the target may spend 4wp and remove this gift in order to reject the intimacy, but doing so deals 1hl of damage and may even kill the target depending on what mutations were removed.

Herald of the Endless Desert
Cost: 20, 1 wp

Mins: Essence 4

Prerequisite Charms: Verdant Empress Endowment

This charm allows the Infernal to summon a demon in answer to prayer, in lieu of acting herself. When presented an opportunity to target someone with Verdant Empress Endowment, the Infernal may spend 20 motes and 1 wp instead choose to summon 1 demon that they know. This demon is taskbound to fulfill the target's wish, and will do so to the best of its ability. It is not under the control of the Infernal.

Also changes to the Elloge one so it no longer destroys the artifacts.

Tinsel Swords Made Real

Cost: 10m 1wp; Mins: Essence 3; Type: Simple

Keywords: Combo-OK

Duration: Permanent

Prerequisite Charms: Read Into Things, Adjective-Noun Artifacts, Living Document Absorption

Nothing is truly unique, for if you can describe something you can create it. When the Infernal tattoos an artifact on her skin using Living Document Absorption, she gains a complete schematic of it as well. As long as the artifact stays as a tattoo it does not count as a unique object for the purposes of Adjective-Noun Artifacts.

Really wish the Sail system worked like most space ship/boat systems do in RPGs these days and lets other players get involved in the scene. Feels like other players just kind of sit around while the captain does everything.

Let's be fair.

Considering how little chance to use the ability there is, if my Supernal Sail Solar is on a boat, you better believe he's gonna be styling

It's very funny how exactly no Lunar charms whatsoever interact with Sail apart for navigation charms. I guess when you can turn into a kraken and eat a ship if it comes to that, why bother with ship-to-ship combat?

The Sail system is incredibly not-great, yeah. Opposed rolls for everything and you need to get a certain number of net successes built up over multiple turns to even attempt to do anything is... well I've got an Abyssal Admiral currently fighting a war and we have yet to actually use the sail rules.

Am I crazy or do I actually remember people talking about how good the Sail rules were when Ex3 first came out?

People were excited about the Sail rules because they're interesting and because Sail was finally getting some love. Sail needed mechanical meat for a long time, and it finally got some.

But then everyone discovered how utterly glacial ship battles are under these rules.

So, with the caveat that none of my games have heavily involved Sail, the fix I've seen that looks the cleanest and easiest is to just give out momentum to all participants in the contest equal to their (Sail) that score any successes at all on the maneuver roll, and then the winner of the opposed roll gains the threshold successes per RAW. Has anyone played with this and/or the base sail rules to weigh in on whether this would work?

I've kind of toyed with the idea of making War's Strategic Maneuvers work in a similar fashion, but that hasn't really gotten past the interesting thought experiment stage yet.

Yeah, this was me and Lumi's easy fix. I think @horngeek and @Maugan Ra use it?

Yeah, this was me and Lumi's easy fix. I think @horngeek and @Maugan Ra use it?

Honestly most of the sailing stuff in A Gift To The West has been fleet-to-fleet combat, so I've actually been handling it as a series of high-level opposed Sail/Intelligence rolls with @Maugan Ra stunting what sorta tactics Gift's using.

This also allows me to basically ignore ship stats because I'm using an alternate version of Creation where it's the Age of Sail and people are starting to use proper rifles and cannons and shit and the withdrawal of the Realm is allowing more minor powers to start with the colonialism.

And the canon ship stats are basically all for Creation's more 'bronze age' feel.

Question now that I am looking through the Lunar's book and realized that clarification is needed so I can grasp the Attributes, especially the mental/social ones, as I have been dealing with Stroypath's stat system to the point its corrupted the two in my head.

Appearance is physical appearance, but Charisma, and Manipulation are muddled to me how they differentiate.
Intelligence, Perception, and Wits has some parts that make sense, but Wits especially is confusing me.

Can someone either link me a post that clarifies this or remind me here? Thank you all

In canon, Charisma vs Manipulation is basically 'I ask someone to do something openly' vs 'I trick someone into doing it'

Its a... controversial topic
Its part of the reason that Storypath Attributes are stuck in my head instead... with its 'force, finesse, resilience' for each 'arena' of stats makes things much easier to differentiate what each part is, or how you would use it. And due to the lack of clarity on this issue also causing issues with constructing how the powers/charms built off these stats work... it becomes a systemic issue that requires someone far better than me to make shortcuts to translate easily.

I don't have the book in front of me at the moment to quote the actual descriptions, but I dislike the interpretation of manipulation must be tricky or deceitful. I find it helpful to take Charisma as the anime-style 'how can you yell all that shit about friendship with a straight face' kind of influence, where Manipulation uses rational arguments which might be deceitful, but doesn't need to be necessarily. Tricking people with Charisma should definitely be a thing. Also, Appearance isn't your literal physical attractiveness, so much as your ability to work it. You can use Appearance + Presence to Jojo pose at people just fine. Lastly, Wits is a combination of your instinct, intuition, and your reflexes.

As for Storypath, I did find a lot of neat system-level stuff but I gotta confess that I actually wasn't that wild about the force-finesse-resilience thing. Or rather, that split was fine, but the fact that you get to basically always use your best pool [per one of the given examples where you use your Stamina to calc your attack roll as you rope-a-dope them] weirded me out a bit because it seemed to basically ensure you'd never have a bad pool in anything. Seems like it'd encourage minmaxing even more than Exalted does, but I admit to saying this having not actually played it so I'm completely willing to admit that I may have missed something.
