... okay, I can see why Celestial Bliss is problematic. Effect feels too strong, and I don't see visible way of resisting it. I'll rule it as Essence roll-off, but I'm a bit disappointed there's no option of resisting it...
But don't you see the inherent brilliance to the Ex3 Devs approach to love and sex, that the problem has never been potential avenues for abuse, but maybe just you all along?

Why aren't you a good-enough person with a better judgement for people?

Oh, I trust my players to use it appropriately, but I do need to find some excuse why random hostile Solar don't use it, and how'd the party deal if it happened to them.

Downgrading the effect to Major intimacy seems reasonable enough nerf. Maybe it's the result of failed roll, too. Hmm, gonna have to tweak it, see what works...

I mean, leaving aside the issues, if they don't consensually sleep with the enemy Solar, it's kind of a non-issue?

Like, "don't sleep with the enemy" is a thing, and the time where you have poor judgement and do it is also an interesting story.

And leaving all that aside, you can reject a persuasion action with another Defining Intimacy if they persuade you using that.

It lasts for a week or a few, and once that week is over, that Defining Intimacy vanishes. If someone upended their life in the week since they slept with you, then "when the haze clears" they're fairly liable to potentially form negative intimacies towards you.

They also might not and you might have ruined their life and they're still obsessed with you. That could also happen.

Maybe you just need some more time to grow, learn to know what you want and can give your potential players, and you'll have a Real Mature Roleplaying Experience someday.

Well, since it is basically the James Bond Charm, just keep a close eye on your trusted, attractive lieutenants especially after you've captured the Solar, or be ready to deal with their sudden and unexpected betrayal.

I have not read 3E, but that earlier one-liner about the person who has a problem with the Charm being the problem? That's a summarization of the response of the Devs to people pointing out that, by RAW, it doesn't have to be consensual. And, according to the massive argument about in earlier in the thread, they never changed that. It would take adding a single word, and people are really annoyed because the implications are really disturbing, much greater changes were made several times after that was first pointed out while this particular problem was ignored, and, of course, there were apparently insults from the Developers towards the people who did point it out. It may not be hard for a ST to fix it, but every time something has to be houseruled to stop it from causing incredible problems when NPCs use it in incredibly obvious ways, that just makes the game harder.

It does. This thread's insistence on a willingly obtuse reading is incredible in its bad faith.

Man, I was optimistic about 3e once, and still found it a questionable Charm.

To everyone's big surprise, there are in fact more shades than "3e is the Antichrist Hitler" and "thinks 3e is the new Messiah".

Anyways, I would rather not that we take up the whole CBT argument again, so I just wanted to point this out.

You left DMP unchanged? Why would you do that?.
Because making stuff work better in on a first reading without fundamentally changing how it works is the point of my Charm stuff.

The first sentence of it suggests a consensual partner, but the first sentence of a bunch of Sail Charms talks about water and I doubt the intent was to bar them from use with airships.

I mean, we just have to ignore everything about the Red Rule to make our argument, and we are super into bad faith arguments for good causes.

We just need more quality posts from our fellow SV members to breathlessly explain in detail the necessity of female genital mutilation in Exalted again, and we will have the ultimate forums experience on this most quality of threads.

If we're going to have more hand-wringing about Ex3 arguments in this thread, we might as well make them be about something recent:

Arms is double extra especially not getting the open dev treatment because we've had several rounds of this happen:

"I have a brilliant idea!" "Well, lay it on me." "Okay, it's like this." "Holy shit, that IS brilliant. OK, let's write some artifacts and see how it shakes out." *Artifacts are written* "Okay, we kind of ran all the potential this had dry after two artifacts, and the second one shows serious structural issues. We need to scrap this and do something else." "Yeah. But I have another idea. It's like this--" "Holy shit, that's really clever." "Yeah but it has this one problem." "Well, we can probably work that out, let's mess with it." "Okay, we've burned three weeks trying different things and that core problem appears insoluble." "Son of a bitch. Back to the drawing board."

Or, in short: Martial Arts Techniques taught us not to preview things until we are positive we can deliver them.

Like how their vaunted "Dev process" is fucking Amateur Hour of ideas-guys and fumbling rewrites all the way down.

but dif

i see a consensus of people who don't want to talk about third edition or have a new magical argument we totally haven't had before

I am extremely down for @Dif trying to smear the devs for reasons entirely related to gut feeling.

Do you want to try to speculate again that Volivat is a sign of latent misogyny on the devs' part based on evidence only you are wise enough to perceive, @Dif?

That sounds hilarious.

You should talk about this hilarity.

I must hear it. :V
The Gracious Aunt is a nemissary slash mortwight who was one of the first antagonists encountered in my Gloam game. She is an assassin who fights mainly by possessing corpses (she does not in fact have the Materialize Charm). She's managed to survive several encounters with the Solars because she's dangerous enough that players usually destroy her quickly, but not dangerous enough that they go through the lengths required to set up the killing blow by someone with Ghost-Eating Technique. They just wreck her current vessel and she goes away. And then she comes back.

The players killed the Dragon-Blooded to which she was loyal, and ever since she's wanted nothing but revenge. She realizes she isn't strong enough to take on the whole group, so she used tactics like "poison their meal and possess your handmaid" to compensate for her lack of power. Oh, and she devoured souls and bathed in the power of Gloam's corruption for more power until she mastered Ebon Shadow Style. And then she almost killed the Twilight's Dragon-Blooded waifu.

Ein's player commented that she was basically a player character. Driven by revenge and killing shit to gain more and more power beyond her station.

Anyway, she got in touch with the main antagonists of the game and used the power of Gloam's city father to lure Ein (whom she considered the weakest fighter of the group, and whom she knew couldn't destroy her spirit form) into the building where they had first fight. Both Ein and the Aunt abused stealth, but the Aunt had a plan to draw him out of the shadows: child hostages she was willing to push to their deaths from the catwalks above the room.

She didn't expect the savior of Gloam to choose to let the child fall and instead take advantage of that moment to stab her in the back. Especially because he was only stabbing her vessel, and she immediately went and possessed a new one while Ein tried to see if the child was still alive.

They had a pretty interesting stealth battle but Ein was laboring under the creeping realization that he could not kill her. He could only destroy her current corpse and she would just go and find a new one until she ran out of Essence, at which point she would just fuck off. There was no win condition for him and there definitely was a lose condition, as her stealth attacks put enough pressure on him to run down his Essence.

At least until the player realized that he had just recently purchased the pinnacle Evocation of Heartbreak, his starmetal dagger that cut through emotions and passions. And that he was fighting a ghost.

At that point he flared his anima (a pretty huge deal for his discretion-obsessed character) to force her into the light and set up an attack which destroys the Defining Intimacy of Revenge that was the entire reason she was fighting in the first place.

In doing so Ein blew out all his Essence and Initiative and broke any chance at stealth, leaving him wide open for a fatal counterstrike. He banked everything on this, and hit home, destroying her thirst for revenge.

And with him at her mercy the Gracious Aunt just... Stared. And dropped her dagger.

And passed into Lethe.

I'm down if you are, and I'm sorry that arguments like the ones above genuinely offend me.

To have fire not burn, the solution is to not throw fuel at it. :V

My current desires are, in descending order:
  1. To play a bit of Warframe.
  2. Go to bed, because holy shit, it's laaaaaaaaaaaate.
  3. Wake up and post some more hilarity from Chiming Minaret Game.
  4. Post Dragon-Blooded homebrew of awesome.
  5. Bug @EarthScorpion to write me something.
    1. Presumably something that isn't literally six pages of waifus.
      1. Okay, the waifus were hilarious, I admit it you terrible fuck.

That's so awesome.

Meanwhile, in Chiming Minaret Game, I've had the hilarity of trying to play concubine for a dude so I could get close enough to murder his wife (it's complicated), moving through court intrigue and manipulating the lords and ladies from the shadows.

Chiming Minaret has Politics 1 and no associated Styles.

It was an amusing endeavour. :V

To move us away from the eternal trenches in which words are sent to die in either offense or defense of 3e...

So, anybody feel like explaining what the shit a Wisdom Soul or Defining Soul are?

A Defining Soul informs how a Third Circle defines it's nature as well as itself.

I'll let @Aleph explain Wisdom Souls, because fuck knows if I'm capable of doing that at the moment.
