Well, we're going into war

and now you are contradictin yourself and Ignoring my point , they are toddlers , they won't be able to use magic in any practical way for a long time and we can always teach the math latter , but right now I think it would be best if they learned the basic safety rules
Haven't heard of the concept of starting kids young on math so that they'll be prodigies when they're older? Learning very very basic counting of small numbers between ages 1 and 2 isn't unthinkable, and its a good foundation for the years that follow. I'm talking about making Miyu about half a year ahead of the curve. Canon Miyu is a ridiculous prodigy at math, so this isn't really a stretch.

Parenting Instructions said:
At 24 months, some children will begin to nonverbally and mentally determine that one item added to another makes "two," and that one item taken away or subtracted from "two" makes "one." The average child, however, will be able to do this during the second half of this year.

Canonical math prodigy means that she can probably do that much at a bit less than 24 months of age.

you do remenber that this is a game where all skills only go from 1 to 10 ? I don't think that this level of developmental manegemant is being taken into account by the QM

I'm not expecting any of the skills to reach a rank of 1 yet. I'm more hopeing for something similar to granting a status buff to future math focuses. The only skills I see that kind of thing being reasonably possible for are various types of mundane studying and possibly magecraft (if we do some cruel standard magus stuff).

you seen to have misunderstood me , so alow me to explain: I believe you are overthinking what is a very simple and straighfoward skill system, theres no reason for teaching them young to give any special boost , specialy since all the minute diferences on basic innate ability are being keep in the background

There's some extra intricacies hidden in the background. I distinctly remember the OP mentioning after one of the very first updates that Shirou is able to improve his Cooking skill much more quickly than other characters can.

Same should be true for Miyu and math.

I know that , I just don't think that training from a young age is a factor capable of affecting the amount of background talent,on one hand the system fells to simple to be affect by this kind of minute detail , on the other if it was , the it sounds like something the QM would have mentioned

Thank you, @justinkal , for that vote count. Since discussion and voting have stalled, I'll go ahead and Lock Votes and start writing.

Note that, due to circumstances beyond your control, things are not going to go exactly as you planned. Still, you are going to get a pleasant surprise in exchange to make up for it.

For those interested in my other, sleeping quest, Kaleidoscope Online, I have good news! I believe I'm gathering enough of a direction of how to go about things so that once I am done with this quest I can resume that one and then overhaul it. It would likely change the direction it heads, but it would also likely increase the pace of updates there as well.

Yay? Uh-oh? I don't know how to feel about this. The next update... what will happen? What will it be? Tell us!

Also, does this mean that this quest will end soon?

Is the unpleasant surprise of the "everyone dies" variety and the pleasant surprise of the "other quest isn't dead" variety?

THE SUSPENSE I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE

The existence of "Type Incubator" in Kaleidoscope Online has made me constantly paranoid in this quest...............

I will tell you that, unless you make some extremely foolish decisions I cannot foresee at this time (then again, this IS SV, the heir of SB...), the end of this quest is not in my sight at the moment. There is about fifteen more years left, I think. However, there is going to be a risk of character death during the Grail War and during an event leading up to it, but I cannot see anyway that you'll end up getting all the adults killed during either events.

Welp, I am going to guess we did not get Taiyi Zhenren or Solomon, as that was our main plan. Do you guys have any ideas on who could have possibly gotten instead?

I just going to assume some random item will interfere with our summoning, considering that any fictional character has a possibility to be summoned.

Which reminds me, what are the incubators doing right now? (or if they even exist in this timeline) Especially if they discover the nature of the Holy Grail...

I'm sure that Kyouko has mentioned that an incubator has tried to contract her. But that is an interesting question. Also don't forget that Eizenbern + Precia will probably be a thing...

I'm just gonna get into my bunker now.

We should probably do an investigation on the Incubators at some point in the near future, preferably with TSAB support.

I'm just gonna get into my bunker now.

Well, we got other magical girls... I guess

Hi

Year 5: Results Part 1
Year 5: Results Part 1

The Fifth Holy Grail War of Fuyuki is due to start at the beginning of the next year, and you were not ready for it. You needed to make preparations, mainly because if it was anything like the last one, it would be a bloodbath.

You created a three-point plan to turn the War to your advantage. Irisviel would research certain historical figures for potential catalysts, you would go out to try to retrieve one of those artifacts for a master to use, and Maiya would get the assistance of a particular person to serve as a Master in the War.

Maiya contacted Yuuno Scrya as a potential candidate for a Master for the Grail War, catching him to inform him of the situation. As an archeologist, he seemed to be the perfect fit for someone with the least motivations to enter. It was a chance to meet with historic figures, and learn about history of the world directly from them, even pieces that the rest of the world has forgotten.

Maiya also mentioned the darker details of the Grail, how it usually summoned seven Servants to be killed for a single wish, and how the Grail was hopelessly corrupt. It was even worse than the Jewel Seeds, as while the Jewel Seeds could possibly be used for a beneficial wish, the Grail would always corrupt the wish in a way that would most likely kill the most people.

Ability-wise, Yuuno was the ideal Master. His repertoire of mysteries was defensive-focused, and since the Servants were supposed to fight, not the Masters, he filled the role perfectly.

The role was essentially what he had gotten the children to do for him with the Jewel Seeds when they had fallen, except that this time defense counted more than offense.

When Maiya explained why the Emiya family was interested in the Grail beyond simply destroying it, to summon a Caster capable of dealing with Illya's body problems and the Jewel Seeds embedded in Shirou and Rin, Yuuno saw why you might be interested, and while he was personally interested, he declined the position of a Master, saying that he was attached to life.

It was a week later when Maiya was trying to figure out who else would be a good fit for a Master that Yuuno contacted her, saying that a set of odd markings had appeared on his hand.

Command Seals.

It was at this point that the Family started focusing as much as possible on preparing Yuuno for the War.

Shirou started teaching Yuuno as much magecraft as he could, even though he could only really teach the basics to the older boy. Alteration, projection, and reinforcement, those were the areas Shirou could use, and so that was what he taught.

It was a surprise, however, at how well Shirou could use his projection. To your shock, he could project Noble Phantasms! Sure, they lacked the power of the real things, and were essentially fancy beatsticks, but Noble Phantasms!

A pair of spears, a half-dozen one-handed swords, and a scythe were the least troublesome of the projections, while there were five weapons that really caught your eyes.

Two scimitars, one black and one white, seemed to be partners with each other. A drill-like sword whose pieces looked like they could rotate, and a very impressive-looking one-handed sword that you recognized as the weapon of the Saber in the maid outfit from the previous war were the next two weapons Shirou could project, abet for very short times. It was the last sword, a big black sword as big as you were that he called 'Corpse of the Demon Lord' that surprised you the most.

Save for the 'Corpse', all of his projected weapons were from weapons of the previous War; at least that was the conclusion that you reached. While the projections never lasted very long, perhaps it might be a possibility to use a projected weapon to re-summon a Servant from the previous war. At least Shirou can't actually make use of the Noble Phantasms like Heroic Spirits could. For example, he could project a spear that originally had anti-magic properties, but lacked them when projected.

Taiga, wanting an excuse to go all out, and seeing a way to make it a good thing, offered to train Yuuno how to defend against those so far above his power so actually stood a chance at surviving attacks.

One five-minute session later, Yuuno woke up from unconciousness and immediately placed a request for a half-dozen Mid-Childan Mystic Codes, including five in the vein of Earth's traditional Mystic Codes known as Storage Devices and one Intelligent Device. Once those arrived, he finally accepted Taiga's offer again, and actually stood up to the combined might of Taiga, Kaleidostick Ruby, and Torashinai for two minutes at a time, reaching three with Shirou's lessons on Reinforcement to make sure his Storage Devices could actually stand up to Taiga's punishment.

Assuming that Yuuno wasn't taken completely by surprise, hasn't used most of his Prana stores recently, kept his Mystic Codes in good shape, and the enemy Servants didn't use their Noble Phantasms, you suspect that Yuuno might be able to hold off for a Servant for a minute, maybe two tops. And that is only because of his specialization in defense. Considering most people would normally last ten seconds or less against a Servant, regardless of magecraft, that is rather impressive.

While Irisviel researched catalysts, you chatted with the people of Uminari, scoring a few free meals for you and your family while doing so. There had been significant changes in the city over the past couple of years, with people moving in, moving out, dying, and some old faces never before considered becoming important. The Mayor, those living on the streets, the Fujimura Yakuza, the immigrants… you gathered information on all of them.

Irisviel's research was… acceptable. While you knew of significant beings throughout history due to your research before the previous Grail War, you had little idea of where their catalysts were. To make up for that, Irisviel made use of the family's connections to the Yakuza in order to help try to locate catalysts.

The first figure Irisviel tried to research on was Taiyi Zhenren. His legend takes place during the Zhou Dynasty in China, when he taught the man who would become a deity, Nezha, and is believed to be the reincarnation of Shang Tang, the first emperor of the Shang Dynasty. While the legends state he is immortal, his healing skills may prove useful if you can get a catalyst for him, even if he had to resort to using plants to create a false body. Her only suggestion would be to find Mount Champion and use some lotus roots from there as a catalyst. Finding Mount Champion where he is said to rest, though, proves to be a challenge, and in the end, Irisviel comes up at a loss with what catalyst could be easily obtained.

At least you are sure no one else is trying to summon him.

Paracelsus is much easier to get information on. Considered the father of modern alchemy, he was known as an average one of the west, and the creator of the original Azoth Sword. He was also known for working heavily with homunculi in his lifetime, which is something you can use to your advantage. With his help, you may be able to remove some of the homunculus traits from Illya which are keeping her growth stunted. An ideal catalyst would be shards of the original Azoth Sword, which are located…

…in a vault in a German outpost for the Mage's Association. This is complicated by the fact that the Einzbern family seem intent on keeping a few homunculi in the area, with instructions not to let anyone unauthorized get to the shards. You could get past them, but they would take notice from the close proximity to the Einzbern lands and the destruction of their homunculi.

Oddly enough, they seem more intent on making sure no one else gets a hold of the shards than actually using them themselves. They seem to have grabbed a large stone from Greece as their catalyst a few years ago, though they did roam around the country for a time.

The last figure researched, King Solomon the Wise, is a figure mentioned in the Bible. Ruling the land that would eventually develop into the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah after his death, he is said to have had about a thousand women as wives and/or concubines. However, he was also said to be able to summon angels and demons to do his bidding as servants, bound to the power of his ring, the Seal of Solomon. Such a powerful object likely draws the attention of many Magi, and it is a question of whether it actually exists anymore. Regardless, something resembling the Seal of Solomon is in Jerusalem.

No one else seems to be trying to make any moves to summon Solomon.

Illya, noticing that you and Yuuno were going into something big, contacted the TSAB for help to assist you. Eventually, a deal was worked out to receive their help; they provide a base in space and provide aerial support, with a few additional mages on the ground, and they receive a supply of guns, ammunition, and a couple cheap combat-related local Mystic Codes.

It also helps that Maiya decided to help the Mid-Childa refugees by creating identities for everyone. Someone else could have done it, but she is getting paid in silver for it.

As you prepared to leave Japan in order to make a move on a catalyst, to drop into Germany and Israel, you received a phone call.

Topher Joiner was wondering if you or someone you knew was a Master for the upcoming Grail War, and if they could form an alliance. While he got along very well with the Caster he had summoned by compatibility, he doubted that he would be able to adequately participate as Topher Joiner had originally intended.

As you took the next day to organize your thoughts to try to keep up with the changes, you eventually noticed that you now had Command Seals on one of your hands again.

…You're in the war, and Caster may be out of your grasp. That is assuming that this war is not like the previous one with the extra Servants, and even then you might not get the Caster you want.

Still, you might be able to make use of the catalysts… and there is Topher Joiner's proposal…

This took longer than I expected.

Bad News: Someone beat you to summoning Caster.

Neutral News: You are now a Master in the Grail War.

Good News: You can change Kiritsugu's second action now, if you so desire.

Note that you will get a chance for the actual summoning next update; you will be able to choose between using the catalyst you obtained, whatever is on hand, or compatibility for each master.

Good luck.

Shirou can Trace a drill-like sword with rotating segments.

What the FUUUUUUU-

Huh. That might actually be a good thing. Although it sucks that we probably can't get Caster.

Actually, if we can make enough alliances, we can spark a Great Grail War. I wonder what would happen then...

Despite him seeming friendly, I'm quite wary of forming an alliance with a dead apostle who summoned a Caster by compatibility, especially since it would probably destroy our chances at forming other alliances.

Also, looks like we've got catalysts for Arturia, Archer, and Gilgamesh on hand. Despite him probably having some cures hidden away in his treasury, I do not recommend summoning Gilgamesh, but Kiritsugu and Archer is probably a good pair.

Solomon can probably be summoned in the Ruler class, but that's too prone to failure.

I'd really like to be able to scout out Fuyuki and gain IC info about the demon god who's currently asleep there and will probably be woken up by the war.

Perhaps we could try and use Kiritsugu's Soul Gem as a catalyst to summon Madoka as an Archer under Yuuno's control and then use a projected Kanshou and Bakuya to summon EMIYA as either Saber or Assassin under Kiritsugu's control?

Judging by canon, EMIYA might be able to help out Illya and would definitely want to help his sister.

Tentative plan:
[] Topher Joiner: Wait and See
[] Kiritsugu: Abandon the Catalysts
-[] New Plan: The Living Sword's Last Gift (Choose 1)
--[] Information: Kotomine

Shirou and the drill-like sword, if it is what I think it is, then it is completely impossible.

Caster already summoned by the friendly neighborhood vampire, it's bad. Yuuno is a master, as well as Kiritsugu.... Can we take back Avalon from Shirou and summon Arturia again?

Edit : I just had an idea. Using Shirou's projection as catalysts.

Arturia would have major conflicts with the whole thing about destroying the grail.

Using projections as catalysts was mentioned in the update itself.

Any comments on my idea of using Kiritsugu's Soul Gem as a catalyst to summon Madoka as Archer?
