[X] ...Maybe. (Try to strike up a 'normal' conversation. Perhaps they'll let something slip if you put them at ease?)

We've got pretty clear orders:
"Yes. If it is the xeno I speak of, they will know the proper answer, which is 'The Eye'. If they do not give the answer, or they give the wrong answer, for the love of the Emperor, don't let them guess you're onto them."

@PurposefulZephyr That "don't let them guess..." part is conditional on them giving the wrong answer/not giving an answer. Still, until we've heard that answer, let's at least attempt to be subtle. We can always take the direct route once we've confirmed they know the right answer.

[] I'm looking for enlightenment.

Just act cool. Right?

I'm tempted to ask for a minor modification of looking for a good hook to include a prompting of the passphrase behind a thin veil, so-to-speak....but I think it might just be best to not blow ourselves too far out of the water we are capable of. go for the lowest layer of abstraction that is NOT us being blatent and then do our best from getting too meta.
cas well we both obviously know that we both know, we DON'T yet both know that we both know (that is, we both don't know that *WE* know about them).....cas yeah, thats way too wordy and we are not capable of 2 layers let alone 3 of social meta-gaming.

basically:
by being blatently oblivious to the meta-game going on here, we make them take the first move so that we don't have to risk flubbing.....we don't have to give them a good "grip" to being anything other then straight with us (by basically either blatantly giving themselves away and/or asking us to ask them something).

cas anything else gives them moves to push the situation to more layers of complexity that we can't see or counter because our PC clearly is *not* at the social skill-level needed for this.

[X] Yes. You. (Just get to the point. Who are they, and what do they want?)

not sure how good we are at striking "normal" conversations

This is going to mix like promethium and anything that doesn't like being on fire.

We should at least attempt to be subtle.
