Distance Learning for fun and profit...

The Irish chap interrupted me again while I was working hard! How irritating...
I hope this chap knocks some Incompatible System ideas loose.

She was fascinated to discover that she could move it freely in any plane other than vertically, in which it appeared to be utterly fixed in place.
I do not think this says what you meant it to say. You meant she could move it freely in one plane, right? Or are there four-dimensional shenanigans in play?

Another lovely chapter. The Batarians are not going to enjoy what Taylor's decided should happen to them are they?

As she worked she hummed happily, feeling that Science was having a very good day right about now.

And she'd made another new friend in the process! Win win, really.
There's nothing you cant do with Science and Friends.
If you aren't friends with them after meeting them, impress/encourage them with Science until they become your friends.
Except the Batarians and Reapers of course.

Taylor shrugged, taking a big bite out of the rest of the lemon half she was holding. Danny, along with everyone else present, stared in horror. "I kind of like sour," Taylor said as she swallowed something he couldn't have stomached without a run up. "But not everyone does, I'll agree."
. . . eeeuugghh. there's liking sour, and then there's straight up eating lemons. I needed a crowbar to unpucker after reading that.
"Taylor?" He waved a hand to indicate the odd looking woman, who was in the process of trying the orange. Her eyes widened, then she quickly ate the entire thing, peel and all. "I feel I may well be missing something important…"

"You're not supposed to eat the peel," Amy hissed, as she picked up another orange and started peeling it.
.

.
the alien woman who was now sneaking the bits of peel Amy had removed while the girl wasn't looking
And Tali shows herself to not be much better. Although orange zest is an actual thing.

Bah, she'll just talk Catalyst into existential crisis, no guns needed.

Or as I already typed (either here or on SB, I am not sure), somewhere after the first Stargate Omake. She will find the defective AI, aka Catalyst, in the Citadel and fix it, and bam: reaper threat over (the Catalyst's creator made a typo during the creation of the source code, leading the whole reaper debacle)

Taylor; "So these Reapers are just very advanced AI robots right?
Tali; "In the simplest of terms, yeah."
Taylor: "So just upload a virus and be done with it"
Tali: "Taylor, they are ancient AI, millions of years old. I really doubt a simple virus could stop them."
Taylor: "Amy hold my lemonade"
*One number crunch montage later*
Harbinger; "Everything is a lie." *explodes*

And they also use dextro amino acids, which makes it hard for them to eat food with levo proteins in it."

"That's not how it works, Taylor," Amy replied, looking somewhat lost. "Humans can eat either with pretty much no trouble at all. I mean, you might not get much in the way of certain essential nutrients from entirely dextro-amino food, but it won't kill you unless you do it for years and end up with malnutrition. Most of it will just go right through you. Might give you the runs but that's about it."

Taylor shrugged. "What can I say? That's apparently how it works for her species. Maybe they're not as well designed as we are."
Or just unlucky as to what they are sensitive to; in real life as I recall some really nasty side effects from medicines come from one chirality and not the other, which is a problem since synthetic drugs typically come evenly in both "levo" and "dextro" varieties. IIRC that's what happened with thalidomide; one chirality worked as intended, and the other caused nasty birth defects.

Why and how nature evolved to use just one particular chirality is something of a mystery, in fact.

Taylor has a whole new Galaxy to educate.

From Geth/Quarian relations. Good thing she already fixed their health!
Batarian hatred for all things.
Krogans....Enthusiasm
Salarian moral deficiencies
Asari Ardat Yakshi
Vorcha....just Vorcha
Turians itchy trigger fingers (is there just no Earth in this dimension? They should have had the First Contact War with Humanity by now)
Reapers, Collectors, Keepers, and Leviathans, Oh My!
Drell health with the Hanar.
The Andromeda Initiative. (Eventually)
The Rachni near extinction.
Etc.

I like it. But eezo isn't analogous to tinker tech. It's not a synthetic creation. It's a naturally occuring material that can be found and mined in deposits, usually in asteroid belts. In the ME universe, of course, not real life.

The Reapers, or the Leviathans, created the technology that utilized it, but they didn't create the substance itself.

Why do I feel that all of this will result in Taylor inventing some fuckhueg cannon to oneshot the whole Reapers?

Seriously? Taylor would take one look at the Reaper's programming, say "that's odd. And inefficient. And, oh, horrible. Who DID this? I'll have to delete that part. And reorder that. In this ethics library is a LOT of stuff missing. Hmmm ..."

Is it weird that I am now imagining young Quarrians, just having begun their pilgrimage, being arrested by C-sec for deciding to celebrate no longer needing a suit by skinnydipping in the Presidium?

Probably

That doesn't actually matter given that it's Taylor's perspective that she's talking from. If you can't explain it, then it's tinker tech not science.

Taylor appears to be comparing it to tinkertech in that the answer to "how does eezo actually do the things it does?" is, much like with tinkertech "No idea, that's just what it does".

To be fair, they are still experimenting with Element Zero. Trying to understand it.

Also, with how old the Reapers are, it might not even be naturally occurring, or wasn't always.

It will get really weird when:
Amy: 'Taylor. May I have a look?'
Taylor: '... sure?'
Amy: 'Wow. WOW. ... ahhhh, yes that makes sense ... all is clear now ...'
Taylor: 'Amy? AMY?'
Amy: 'Oh, sorry. I KNOW HOW YOUR BRAIN WORKS. CAN I COPY IT? PLEASE?'
Taylor: 'Um. Okay. I thought you cannot do brains. Or work on yourself?'
Amy: 'Funny, for some reason I'm SURE I can.'

Taylor: Millions of years old and they never installed the security updates

Wordz has appeared!
It is very effective at distracting a reader!

Now I am very much looking forawrd to that nice fella O'Make to have some more words with our provider of the Z variant!
🕺💃 Commence the happy reader dance party!

X/Y axis and Z axis are not the same. That, and who are you to dictate how an alien's language differs from ours?
