Now, the rewards... the rewards are very nice. The hex conversion is practically in the bag, and an executable (which I'm assuming we can store?) is a useful tool to have early on, but that salvage is I think the real prize.

Yes. You can store the executable and use it later. I haven't determined the exact mechanism (it'll depend on the executable) but it'll basically be something you can keep until you need it.

I did initially say special projects but it might instead be an advanced system. I'll have to think about the balance of it. I don't want to give it away but one thing I will say is that advanced systems will require more salvage per system to restore.

A couple questions, which may or may not have answers:
Is all future hex formatting imperial standard by Arachne, or will there be the option to choose different formats going forward?

What does a specialized trait mean? I don't think there's been a discussion of those.
Could we pick something like an Umbral Cloak (mentioned earlier), providing temporary stealth, on the HYDRA chassis? Or perhaps better sensors for tracking stealthed units (such as Don Hidalgo)?

Lastly, is a campaign like this arc we just finished?


As it is we haven't seen what formatting a hex actually does. So the benefits of formatting a hex for Arachne are still unclear to me.

Personally I'm leaning towards the Tacitus Metamorph, if only because it seems the most flexible choice, with potentially defensive, offensive, and utility options. Although, its strength depends a lot on what we can pick and what it does.

The one executable I think I fully understand right now is SMOKE and if we get hit by 10 drones swarms and an element or something, could be decisive. But then again, could we pick a trait that makes HYDRA better at defeating or subverting drones with Tacitus Metamorph?

I just feel, when facing the unknown, having the ability to respond in different ways is strong. We don't know yet if we're going to be facing drone swarms or need to claim a hex fast. But a specialized trait might help in both those cases and others.

The Tacitus metamorph is an adaptive nanomachine membrane that, when applied to a unit, is capable of temporarily granting a +2 to one stat along with a unique specialized trait of the applicant's choosing. The membrane will form a symbiotic communal relationship with the unit in question for the duration of a campaign before withering away and dying.

A trait is a specialized bonus which gives you an advantage in some specific thing (sometimes with a malus to another part of you). The Tacitus trait would be more powerful than a normal trait, giving you a unique advantage.

No, a campaign would be more like a single major encounter or raid or battle, such as fighting Hidalgo again but this time with the purpose of disabling him. Unless that's what you mean.

Resource gains and the ability to near-instantaneously teleport from hex to hex along with increased defensibility and improved sensor range.

SMOKE is a powerful tool for winning one battle, Tacitus is a powerful tool for winning one campaign, but Rootkit is a powerful tool that applies on the strategic level.

I have updated and revamped the stat post if anyone wants to take a look as well. There is more to keep track of now so things are going to be more systematized going forward.

If we drop the root kit on the Spiral Formation Art piece, would it immediately contain and format the hex into our system? Or do we need to restore it before converting?

The art piece's restoration would be a special project that is separate from hex conversion. Relics are stationary pieces of infrastructure that can be moved with special projects, but they don't affect the cost or conditions of hex conversion in any way. They are just a powerful object located in that hex.

Converting the hex is a prerequisite to restoring the relic, though.
