Yer' A Lancer, Kid! (Or, You Are A Lancer In An Anime Fantasy Setting, Good Luck)

[X][APPEARANCE] #2

Gotta have a girly face to go with the name.

[X][ELEMENT] Water which flowed as it levitated above your touch.
And the waterbending to help cool the flames the hearo is certain to make.

[X][ELEMENT] Water which flowed as it levitated above your touch.

Can slice, can dice; it can even Blend!
And water tends to be the element that heals, if water magic works that way, and it's great for getting drinkable water from puddles or sweat when in a desert or the air, if water magic works that way. It's also great for mobility down (or up) a river, if water magic works that way.

Which it does. Obviously.

Anyway, None of the images really grab me, but that's nbd.
The edgiest, most dark I could see. 2nd looks too innocent, 3rd looks too happy.
Edgy? They look like they're dressed up for an anime con as someone from one of the darker Studio Ghibli movies.

First one's obviously lin*. I'm more a wind type of person, but water works for the connotations of healing and flowing movements.

Number 3 is obviously the hero with their manly face and boisterous attitude.. Foiling plots and plots. Number two's the most collected for the personality type. *Also that hood screams priest and tries to kidnap us, then someone finds out they specced in monk.*

I want our character to destruct the tropes and be the one to kill the final adversity... while the protagonist is unconscious. That's the best way to defy the old man.

The 'SOMETHING ELSE...?' option is if you want to propose any other images!
I saw that, but such a thing involves work on my part, and I'm just a bit tipsy atm. Sozz fam.

I wandered in here our of idle curiously and it was your word-picking choices which hath grabbed me; not your picture-picking choices!
I'm just here to kick ass and read new quest posts, and I'm fresh out of new quest posts.

Wait…guy with a girly name…girl with a guy-like name.
No…what have we done? We've created the perfect foils and couple!
We we're supposed to destroy the romance subplot, not join it!
And when it's time to pick our Hero's appearance:

"Yes I'm a girl! Yes I know I have a bo- Washboard?! Who the hell are you calling a "washboard" you asshole?! Get over here so I can rip your face off!!!"
-Cedric, probably

It's the best I could do with what was given…
Though, I've heard some of those movies have blood and gore and such. That wolf princess one, I think?

No interest in edge, we can be scary without any edge. Instead cast fist, return to foils.
…Eh? "Cast Fist" died last turn. And 'edge' isn't just about 'edge'. It's about being the dark, the serious, the quiet, the cool, the suave, the mystery, the counterforce. When I say 'edge' I mean anything most main characters aren't. Like realistic, or serious, or pessemistic.

We're the side, the bro, the opposite to the hero. It'd be a low blow to though for us to be anything not as edgy as a…crow?

I want our character to destruct the tropes and be the one to kill the final adversity... while the protagonist is unconscious. That's the best way to defy the old man.
Hey hey, we can destroy the tropes without stealing his thunder and destiny. Elsewise we'd just be making ourselves the protagonist. Which we are, but also are not.

Yes, mean-spirited jokes and laughter. Insults galore.
This will definitely result in at least one misadventure and several accompanying hijinks.

Editorail: If we need up with Appearance número dos…we're going to be a trap. Please, don't let us be a trap. That's 1 step closer to an even more conflicted romance subplot.

Well can't say I'm not disappointed that monk lost, but the dice have rolled. Can't really change that. I'm still thinking we should at least get some hand-to-hand training down the line just in case. (I may be out of Mana, but I'm not out of options.) Or ya know. Just use wind magic to increase our speed, and thus the speed of our punches. Nothing to say we can't do that. Oh right voting.

I'm fine with either of these, to be honest.
[X][ELEMENT] Wind which danced softly in between your fingers.
Waterbending is cool and all, but if I have learned anything from watching Avatar, it is that wind is stupidly overpowered. Also, we might be able to learn how to fly. That pretty much sold it for me.

[X][ELEMENT] Flame which burned in the palm of your hand.

You got a problem? Fireball. Taxes? Fireball. Naggy wife/husband? Fireball. Gaurds won't let you into town? Fireball. BBEG? Fireball.

What's your point person within Fireball distance!

Fireball the answer to all your problems!.

Lorepost #1! - Mages, Monks, Ether and You!
Seeing people want to subclass into MAGIUS FISTO! Has given me the idea of making this tiny Lorepost!

So, a little bit about Ether, also known by some as Lifeblood (of the World), how is it used by Adventures and Mages and Monks and all that stuff.

So, you'll see, as said before, Ether is basically a strange force which permeates the (night) totality of the World.

Think about it like oxygen, the world basically breathing Ether every single living moment.

Now, as said before, this thing is horribly chaotic in its nature, and doesn't react well when someone decides to tell it what to do, with the result usually being that nagging mortal exploding in some way.

Thus, Mana and Chi!

...Chi? Qi? Ki? How is it even spelled? Are those things different from one another or are they the same thing? I don't even know...

Anyway! These two are forms of 'Refined Ether' wielded by Mages and Monks respectively.

The Mages use Mana, AKA 'Externally Refined Ether', to cast their spells, taking away the raw power of the Ether and making it far more malleable and safe to use, though it is still possible to get it to blow up in your face when it comes to more dedicated processes, so don't give up on that hope!

Monks, on the other hand, decided that while making things blow up was undoubtedly awesome, using your fist to create earthquakes and crush mountains was infinitely cooler than that, so, they created their own Refined Ether for that purpose!

Chi/Qi/Ki/I-Don't-Even-Know, AKA 'Internally Refined Ether', is exactly what is says on the tin: using spiritual pathways inside of your body to guide the Ether and then refining it by directing it to spiritual key points inside of your body, AKA Naruto Chakra Coils, you can refine Ether into Chi, and even cooler is that you get an even greater amount of the Ether's raw power through this method!

Now, of course, this isn't without it's drawbacks, for starters is that you can't control Ether outside of your body as easily as you could with this method; the key to a Monk's power is to be able to swiftly move Ether inside of their body and then transform it into Chi, and after doing only that for quite a while will definitely feel unnatural and forced compared to doing it inside.

The other issue is that this thing requires a massive amount of discipline and self-control, because, once again, Ether is insanely explosive and mean when it is told to do something, and if you fail to fully control it, when you are telling it what to do, inside of your own body... Well, explosions are cool, and you are bound to see some cool explosions for the rest of your life!

Now, I know what you're thinking: what about mages? Well, they sort of have the opposite problem.

See, mages are trained to make sure that the Ether that surrounds them goes through them as cleanly as possible, so it doesn't interfere when they are trying to cast their spells and so the big boom isn't within their radius.

Which, in practice, means that they find the kind of training monks do extremely unnatural and risky to them.

Now, I know what you're thinking: 'Geez Unknown, this thing seems intentionally created to make us not go for the MAGIUS FISTO! subclass, you're such an ass-'

And, well, you're right, it actually is! Because I personally wanted to make the class selection mean something instead of a complete landslide in the form of a Kung Fu Wizard, and I couldn't have that if I made it possible to easy be a Kung Fu Wizard.

But! Lemme tell you, that while I definitely made it so it were difficult to do so, it wouldn't be impossible.

Sure, you will definitely have to spend a lot of resources into this, but I feel that it would be mean of me to say no to you guys about the MAGIUS FISTO! so I made it definitely possible!

There's quite a few of adventurers who do this thing, learning a decent amount of Magic and Martial arts and then specializing in one of those with the other as a backup; it is actually very rare to see a high ranked mages or monks who don't do this.

Now, of course, you will definitely have to specialize at some point, because after a certain point, Mana and Chi almost completely incompatible, and you can only have the high ranked stuff of one of them.

After all, its not like there is anyone capable of teaching a perfect way of merging those two styles, there is no old master, no secret scroll, no magical way of making them work together in such way.

I mean, what? Do you guys think that there is some kind of madman with a chip on his shoulder who thinks that this whole 'Mage or Monk only' is completely bullshit, who is secretly working on creating a way of showing the world that it can be done and would definitely love to have some assistance in his work so it can show off his genius to the world just for the legendary bragging rights that it would come with it?

That's just silly! It would be way too silly! It's impossible! So don't think about it, forget it, erase it from your minds!

Bye!

...I was thinking on speaking about regular adventures, civilians and clerics when it came to this, but then I realized that this thing got Long! So... For the next one I guess?

Clearly we need a rival of sorts looking to achieve the same thing, so we can both push ourselves further to get the bragging rights before the other.

Blah blah blah, all I hear is that becoming Kung Fu Magician will give us UNLIMITED POWER to contend with the plot armor of the Hero. Forbidden and hidden techniques, here we come!

Is the vote still open?
