Xander [Quest], Thread Four: You are the (Under Tens Division) Champion of the World

Of course our age group is more impressive. Alex is the main character so all the awesome people are going to be around us.

Everyone awesome is going to be either roughly our age or old enough to classify as adults.
Hah, true enough! :D
Getting as many interesting people in the same Division makes sense, from that point of view.
Will be interesting to see what this age group will manage to accomplish.

Yeah, ok, I'm convinced

[X] Looks like Altria's "responsible adult" is here. Say your goodbyes.

Also, speaking of food? If we can conjure stuff that then disappears a while later, would anyone be opposed to getting Cordelia some delicious cake or ice cream or something? She might have some objections of eating too much of that, but if we mention that she can eat as much as she wants without gaining a pound, that might be something she'd be interested in.

All that mass disappearing from cells can't possibly be healthy.

It depends on how long it lasts after it's conjured; if it has enough time to make it into your intestines, then yes, bad things will most likely happen from eating it. If it only lasts something like 10 minutes, however, then apart from the sudden feeling of emptiness in your stomach it should be harmless.

Instead of 'conjuring' food from the ether, Alex could instead 'transfigure' nasty vegetables into great tasting treats. Avoiding the issue of mass disapearing from cells.

The cake is a lie. But it's delicious anyways.
You mean transforme them, and then after they've eaten it, it'll go back to vegetables?

I mostly wanted this so people wouldn't get sick from eating too much cake/gain weight.
Basically, a free/cheap way to celebrate.

Illusions of food and taste?

Enchantment would also get the effect you're looking for.[/p]

[p]By creating the illusion of goodtasting food. No weight gain, no drawbacks from disapearing mass.[/p]

[p]If you really wanted to use conjuration it would have to be very short term.

Huh.
Well, ok, that works.

If we can change how people think it tastes, then yeah, that works for me!

[X] Say goodbye, but see if you can invite Altria to dinner. And you suppose she can bring Ambrose along, if she must.

There's already a spell for that. Just use Prestidigation. It lets you flavor a pound of nonliving material (basically any food that we want) in any way you want. The effects only last an hour, but... *shrug* Long enough.

So, who'd like some celery that tastes like chocolate? Healthy broiled chicken that tastes like fresh bacon! etc etc.

Although you are tempted to inquire about Altria's dinner plans, in the end, you decide that you've had enough of Ambrose for one day week month year lifetime right now. You thank the young swordswoman for the time she was willing to spend with you this afternoon, wish her a pleasant, demon-free evening, and extend your hope to see her again tomorrow. Altria replies much in kind, and extends similar pleasantries to Briar, Cordelia, and Lu-sensei. Then she's off, striding along with the regal self-assuredness you're coming to associate with her character; after clicking shut his antique timepiece and tucking it away, Ambrose gives a very formal-looking Western-style bow to your little group - the effect of which is surprisingly not shot to hell and gone by his wardrobe selection - follows it with a smirk that is much more like his usual manner and gets Briar growling, and then allows himelf to be swept along in his charge's wake.

"So what now?" you ask, turning to your companions. "Are we going to hang around for some of the prelims, or duck out and go back to the hotel, or what?"

"That's up to you two," Lu-sensei replies. "I'm not scheduled to fight in the preliminaries until tomorrow, so there's no reason to stick around on my part."

"Honestly, I'd rather call it a day," Cordelia sighs. "I really want to take a long, hot bath - though only after you've at least had a shower, mister," she adds, giving you a meaningful look.

"I don't smell that bad, do I?"

"I wouldn't be this close to you if you did, Alex," Briar assures you from her spot on your shoulder. "Basic hygiene is a standard part of the old healing package, and frankly, Cordy, I'm a little hurt that you don't trust me to know what I'm doing."

"It's the principle of the thing," the brunette protests. "Besides, we've both been walking around in these pajamas for about three hours longer than we absolutely had to."

"You do have a point, there," the fairy admits.

"Of course I do."

What do you do?

[ ] Head for the Adult Division Prelims. By dint of training and experience, they should be the best fighters at the tournament. There's no telling what you could learn from watching them.
[ ] Head back to the hotel.
- [ ] Skip ahead to dinner.
- [ ] Skip ahead to tomorrow.
- [ ] Skip ahead to the end of the tournament.
[ ] Do something else. (Write-in.)

OOC: On the "Give Briar A Hug" agenda, Alex currently isn't capable of casting Fairy, but I figure he could use a 3rd-level variant of reduce person to shrink himself to about 1/8th his current height, or ~7 inches. That's still over three times Briar's height, so it'd be a lot like an adult hugging a small child, but it's still a hug, right?

I'm tempted to stay, but...
Honestly, I don't think we'd learn as much as we can tomorrow, when we'll get our mana back, for divination.
Pretty sure we wouldn't get teleportation or flight from watching with just ki sight, at least.

[X] Head back to the hotel.
- [X] Skip ahead to dinner.

So...
How much would it take for casting Fairy?

Anyway, I still want to go with the hug - with an apology to Briar that we can't fully shrink ourselves down to her size.

[X] Head back to the hotel.
-[X] Ask Briar about us being able to hear her way back (a couple days ago) when we fought the squid.

Oh, this is a good point - asking about that is something we need to do.
Adding that for before we go to dinner.

This should keep it private, without Cordelia or Lu-sensei butting in, which might make her more likely to answer us.

For all the ADD kids out there remember we still have flash step practice with Ayane, and a number of chance to upgrade our skills.

We could stay, but theoretically, the best fighters (and thus those with the better skills) would end up on the finals. Best wait for that, stock up on Mana and Ki and conserve it by only focusing on those top bracket matches. Of course, conversely, the more skilled they are the harder it'll be to reverse engineer some stuff for our own use and they may be better at concealing their abilities...but I doubt all of them could shield their abilities from a combined magical/spiritual scan. Never thought this tournament would turn us into an technique thief...

And it's the reason I'm against finishing this arc right now, it just means missing free stuff.
Things left to do in this arc:
  • Shunshin training
  • Teaching Giant spell
  • Stealing new attacks
  • Ninja Contact Info
  • Inevitable Demon/Ninja/Demon-Ninja Invasion
I think that's it.
