Xander [Quest], Thread Fifteen: "Stranger Than You Know," 2.0

It's such a good thing we're planning on following the three tenets of the Triforce this time. Having Wisdom to go with our power is great.

Hm, think he can't just out-social her by then?
So... what, we'd make her stick around in Sunnydale only stopping it with being a psycho bitch?
...Well maybe Din or someone would like a new handmaiden (Hylia was a servant of Nayru so clearly the Golden Goddesses have some literally divine servants), so she can swear on Din's power if that's the case.

Glory had no magical power but she was a physical powerhouse. I don't think any enemy in BTVS or Angel since has measured up to her outside of Illyria before she was depowered.

Glory is capable of massive super speed and super strength. We probably have the advantage because of our magic power but if we tried to take her on with just our ki adept abilities we'd get crushed handedly.
Which is why we're not - my plan is to just send a constant stream of summons (hope she likes a rolling horde of undetectable celestial gorons crashing into her while the Sunnydale Effect makes people ignore it), long-ranged magical attacks and illusions to make her fuck up everything.
Alex is horribly scary, given his massive breadth of magical ability and I think this is what we should use to teach a certain stuck up goddess what happens when you threaten those close to him.

Throw in that, if the choice is between Alex snapping and going full Ganondorf (like in that omake) or slipping a warning I think the Golden Goddesses will give us a heads up (we're already having Din ready to provide minor miracles), so Glory can't really count on sneaking past us to get at Zelda (not like she was ever really all that smart).

[X] Be a good big brother and ask Zelda if she wants to help write some letters to your friends overseas.
This plan is flawless. No way it can go wrong!

As long as we tell the recipients not to mind the stick figures.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Alex is already running around at 3.25x enhancement from just his Ki Enhancement. Admittedly right now that only results in a top speed of 26KPH however google tells me the average adult can sprint at 22.5KPH which using just Alex's current enhancement would be 73KPH (20m/s) which is fast enough to go two meters in a literal blink of an eye.

Now if he goes all out into Maximum Power that speed doubles which means Alex could literally cross a small to medium sized room in a blink of an eye (100ms) and large ones in a longer blink (400ms). Speaking of which I just noticed Maximum Power is a lot more practical then before since from a full tank Alex can keep going for five solid minutes before running dry.

And remember that's just wit our current stats applied to Alex's future minimum physical abilities. By the time Alex is ~20 I imagine all his skills will be significantly better, he might have even started work on Lu-sensei's PSL-Running technique.

Of course I don't think throwing down with the superstrong superfast hellgoddess is a smart idea. Much better to just smack her with a Dismissal or hilariously Baleful Polymorph.

On one hand she likely has high Endurance but on the other hand she was already stuck with something pretty damn similar to Baleful Polymorph. As for Dismissal she'd either accept it as a chance to get off this plane or fight it and probably loose, from what I recall her Will score isn't like to be that high.

Isn't she already under one? : )

That said it's likely though considering the pounding Glory takes that she has DR/Mythic at least.

If Glory was an actual Goddess, I expect her to be packing SR. Most things with Divine powers do. That will make getting magic to stick difficult.

[X] Be a good big brother and go play with Zelda.
- [X] Bring Moblin along.
- [X] Start mentally composing letters to our friends while we are playing with Zelda. I mean, we've got Concentration B, what else is it there for but to do more than one thing at once?

Hm, Glory's condition is all part of a divine curse on her. I'd wager we'd have to contest against some serious mojo to try and 'dismiss' her back home. Although given the issue with Ben, a flesh and blood human, Earth may count as her home for the purposes of such spells.

As for the divine bitch herself I wouldn't expect any sort of peace with her, not only does being here cause her suffering but she's also a hell goddess, I'm not sure if she's capable of not being evil.
Along with not underestimating her, a goddess is never going to be a comfortable fight no matter who you are.
The easiest way of dealing with Glory should be to have potent enough mental defenses to resist the effect that makes it impossible to realize that Ben and Glory time share their body and just kill them when Ben is in control or trap them somewhere that even Glory's potent physical ability's can't get them out.

I was reading through the first few posts again and I noticed something that seems incredibly obvious in retrospect.
Blessed Sword: A Hyrulean-style hand-and-a-half sword, scaled down to match your size and strength. Aside from being the classic +1 sword, it's sanctified by the Golden Goddesses and appears to be absorbing small quantities of your excess ki, mana, and spirit - for reasons as yet unknown, although this gives you a + to non-physical stealth as long as the Blessed Sword is present. As a summoned weapon, you can only keep it for a matter of hours. Currently un-summoned.
How much do you guys want to bet that the stealth is just a side effect and the absorption is about having the sword's strength grow with us in traditional Zelda fashion?

Quests to improve our synchronicity with it and imbue it with greater power are a distinct possibility, as well as the quest to actually physically go retrieve it if we can't end up simply summoning it for real.

I'd mentioned hoping the sword would be like that before, but I think this is a pretty heavy hint that such is the case. I don't think it's a +1 Sword with a minor stealth effect, I think it's a Goddess granted Item Familiar esque weapon, possibly complete with its own nascent intelligence (remember Fi anyone?).

The Golden Goddesses don't do things by halves. They answered our prayers with a Blessed Sword, and we should look underneath the underneath to see what's really going on, because there's just a ton of story potential there.

Guys, Glory is not hard.

Divine her weak spot, then kill Ben.
I doubt that if we get to dealing with Glory that it'll be that simple. Considering magic looks to be more of a thing in this setting, I'd be stunned if she didn't shut that down somehow or another. Assuming we can just divine and kill a big bad of that level strikes me as wishful thinking at best and fallacious at worst.

Judge Mental, how mad would Din be if Alex showed more favor to another goddess like Naryu or Farore (Pretty much NTR)?

Nightblade said:
Wait what? How do you get NTR from that? Alex worships Din primarily.
Just asking for an what if. Might get a laugh out of it or might get an further insight of the goddesses. What happens when one of their favortives to another sister?

The fact that she couldn't just magic herself home was a major part of the plot, wasn't it?
True, but that's not strictly relevant to what I'm getting at. Look at it like this: Glory's a big bad. A biiiiiiig bad. Hell Goddess and altogether wrecking machine, right? If JM uses her, I presume it won't be as a mook or a problem that's simply solved. (Even moreso if Zelda's the key, but that's here nor there.) Assuming that we can just cast a spell and go deal with her doesn't make sense in the context of that. She's not some problem we can solve that easily based on how narratively important she is.

Her big deal is that she's a physical powerhouse on the level of Illyria.
This is not all that helpful against someone who can throw hilarious amounts of magical power around, who doesn't have to come directly face to face with you.

...Hell, Altria would probably be able to see right through the bullshit, considering she's got magical resistance from her dragon stuff.
She'd be willing to point us towards the super-evil hell goddess given she's got that whole deal about being heroic and such (which is a good influence for Alex, I'm happy we befriended her)... or, come to think of it, celestial summons would probably be good for it too, judging by that Postman.

That assumes she isn't changed for the quest or otherwise tweaked to ensure relevancy, should she be used. We're not in the vanilla Buffyverse, and if we have higher power levels running around, I assume she'd be scaled to match. Which really gets to the heart of what bothers me about that. Namely, that we assume all the shiny things we get can invalidate the problem trivially. The the normal Buffyverse didn't have Ganon-Xander, Lu-Sensei throwing around ki, a ki adept Cordelia and so on. I presume there will be further complications and difficulties with Glory to ensure she stays relevant.

OOC: With regards to Madfish's question, Lu-sensei concluded that Kahlua didn't have permission to invite Alex because of the tone of her letter (dismissing her parents' concerns about safety in relation to the Hellmouth as "silly"), the specific lack of any mention of her having gotten permission to invite Alex (it was all "let me know," and "I'll take care of things"), his familiarity with the expected protocol for situations like this, and more importantly, several decades' worth of dealing with kids.
Does Kahlua's family prescribe to the old world mentality of Guest and Host most often seen used in the Dresden Files book series?

Another words if they invite us into their home their honor bound to be responsible for our life and safety, and a guest getting hurt would be the same as saying their too weak to protect a single person.

@Cyto: Very interesting idea. I wonder what would happen if we cast the spell at 8th level (B Summoning + Ritual)? That's Greater Planar Binding. Wonder if it might manifest more permanently.

yeah that blessed sword gonna turn out to be master sword tier weapon. Too bad we aren't in hyrule to fetch quest it to its full potential.
