Any threadmarks here are just gonna be my randomly-written snippets, so if you wanna sort through them for whatever reason then I suppose this'll be handy.
This Is What The Thread Is For

Xantalos

Turtle-Speed Writing
This is a thread I'm making to force myself into writing something every day by the horrific, awe-inspiring power of public accountability. Every day I'll either finish some work on either of the two quests I'm currently running (links in my signature if you're at all interested) and report in here how many words I wrote for which quest, or if for whatever reason I haven't been able to force my brain to produce anything, I'll write something unrelated and post it here. Maybe even do both. Be warned, those unrelated drabbles will likely be godawful pieces of nigh-incomprehensible cringe that have nothing at all to do with anything, but given that as of now I actually write something on maybe 1 day out of every 14, I figure it's better than nothing. I'll conquer my writer's block the same way I did my ineptitude at martial arts, through bullheaded persistence!

That or I break all my promises again and this thread becomes my personal shame graveyard, but I think I've got decent chances. Feel free to critique any of the random pieces I pop out on occasion if you like. This is mostly just a thing I'm doing to force myself to produce something consistently, even if it's kinda shit.

Ah, @Xantalos, I see you've placed yourself on the block. Let's hope you can at least hold on for as long as possible.

Incidentally, it's been over twelve hours, half a day, since you last told us about your writing progress. (Am I doing this social expectation torture thing right? I can never tell.)

Is there going to be a dedicated time when a thing happens, or what?

Hey
@Xantalos
I have a suggestion I'd like to make for respect your elders
Instead of posting the entire turn results at once, maybe do what you do with from a dead world and post each action separately?
It lets readers read something every few weeks or so, and lets you make more tangible progress, since you can post smaller updates, but quicker

You got this man, peer pressure is a powerful force
It's what I'm hoping to harness

I'ze at work at the moment so it'll be a few hours until I can get home and grind something out. Probably gonna finish up the Respect Your Elders section I started yesterday, or at least try to make some progress on it.

And nah, no specific time, just so long as I write something before midnight PST.

If my brain worked logically I'd do that. Trouble is, what seems to happen with that sort of schedule, as I learned with FADW, is that I just release those smaller updates on the same 3-ish month schedule. No idea why it's like that, but it is. It's why this thread even exists in the first place, I'm hoping that by forcing myself to write a little every day I'll forcibly correct my tendency to put off writing till the last minute and then write like 4000 words in 2 hours or something stupid like that.

This is a great idea, mate. I'm here for it. The hardest part will be the earliest bits. Once you develop the habit it'll be much easier. Remember:

Huh, same energy as Shia Lebeouf but 5 years before he did the thing. Interesting!

Anyhow: November 25, 2019: Wrote 329 words for Respect Your Elders turn 8. Technically speaking this one's a bit of a grey area since that's all outlining, but since it details access to a potential victory condition you guys just unlocked I think I'm gonna count it. Plus I'm gonna work on another section of the update too.
Edit: Outlined a further 88 words, beginning actual writing now
Edit2: Wrote 160 words of actual update content, making total 417 words of outline and 160 words of content for today.

November 26, 2019 - Wrote 474 words for Respect Your Elders turn 8. Orks are easy to write so I breezed through the rest of that section.

November 27, 2019 - Wrote 202 words (so far, gonna try to finish up this section before sleep) for Respect Your Elders turn 8.

Edit: Finished the section, making it 330 words for today.

Percentage wise, how far along do you think you are?
I'm currently (this is counting the outlining and stuff I have there, as well as the option names and stuff, so it isn't entirely accurate) 4,574 words into the update. Probably something like 4,250 if you subtract the outlining of other sections. I've completed Reconstitution (forming the fog daemon into a godseed), Examine the Cosmos, Assign Slann Rulers, founding the new city, Chasing the Storm, and Scry&Spying both orks. And I'm partway through doing the ghyran skink priests. That's 7 sections done, 8 if I get this one done tonight, and I've got another 8 to do, though a lot of those are research ones so they should be pretty easy to do. So approximately 50%, but given that my writing powers get stronger the longer I work on a single update, I might actually have this almost done before the new year (conservative estimate).

Busy day plus I spent some time doing a specific bit of worldbuilding.

I suppose you're doing Ficcember. It's like Inktober but without keywords and coincides with Lexember.
Kinda, except I just kinda hope to keep doing this until I don't exist anymore. Speaking of which:

November 29, 2019 - wrote 206 words (so far, gonna do a bit more before I sleep) for Respect Your Elders turn 8.
Edit: 383 now, gonna pause for the moment - I've got plenty of material to continue onward with tomorrow.

Ok that's a bit difficult considering my own update pace problems (In my feeble defense I'm in the final phase of my PHD so I already write quite a lot) but a few advice/questions who could help.

How much time do you have to write your own things by day on average?

How many words do you think you are able to write by day?

Do you feel able to write an action by day?

How much time do you think you can give to worldbuilding? Including reading things to have elements?

1. Depends on the day and how much sleep I get. Usually at least two hours, though not always consecutive. Probably more if I cut down on time looking at other stuff on the internet and replacing that with just writing, but I've a hard time setting up beneficial habits, let alone removing bad ones, so I'll have to leave my excessive internet browsing for a later day.

2. Right now it seems to be averaging out at a few hundred, which is certainly nowhere near my faster speeds - I think my record was the one and only time I tried coffee, when I wrote something like 4000 words in 3ish hours. But that was a somewhat unique circumstance.

3. Right now it's seeming to take around 2 days for the average actions I put actual effort into writing, and 1 day for the simpler ones. I already did a lot of the more complex sections before I started this thing, so I'm not sure how many days something more in-depth would take.

4. A lot of that is kinda bundled up in the time I spend slacking off, funnily enough, but as far as active worldbuilding I'd call it around the same as the time I have for writing. I managed to do a fair bit of it last night actually, got the fates of the Old Ones finalized where before I only had a general idea.
