Wormverse ideas, recs, and fic discussion thread 1

Need some quick help for a possible snippet:

Can people think of some Glaistig Uaine-esque nicknames for the BB capes? I already have Shaper, but just some ideas for the Wards/Protectorate/E88/ABB/Merchants etc. would be really helpful. Thanks.

Okay! By popular demand, my fanfic Number Girl now has a thread of its own, with a new chapter, Chapter 4.

A preview:

I laid flat on my bed, rubbing my fingers on my temples, a damp cloth draped over my eyes. Almost there. After five days of effort the mosaic of futures in my mind was almost fully reassembled. Just a little bit more to go. Five or six hours, tops. If I got it done in time to get a good night's sleep tonight, I would be able to go back to school tomorrow and get started on my project of reclaiming my lost friendship with Emma.

The work was exhausting, though. As I moved and manipulated the futures they resisted, sending sparks of pain into my head. It was like nerving yourself to push needles into your skin to give yourself an injection, again and again and again. You knew it wouldn't kill you, that the pain would only be temporary, but it still took its toll.

I lifted the cloth away from my eyes for a minute to glance at the clock. Four hours since my last dose of medicine. I stretched out a hand to find the white plastic pill bottle on my nighttable and swallowed another two tablets of medication. It was technically against the dosage instructions, but the doctor didn't know the root of my problem...

Few questions for a one-shot I'm planning:

The story idea is simple. Taylor triggers instantly as Kephri with the total control of any and all human's in about five to ten meters around her. Obviously this power kind of terrifies her and she's much more hesitant to go out and be a hero. In fact...she's so hesitant she doesn't and she desperately tries to find a non-scary application of her powers. She doesn't really find another and mindlessly wanders around town (this is where I'm stuck) and runs into Lisa whose shitting bricks at her readings of Taylor. Out of random kindness/self interest/keeping the freaky mindcontroller from accidentalling the world/ Lisa isn't her manipulative self and gives Taylor a few options.

Then...I dont know...she has a nightmare or something and control's Danny in her sleep. The next morning they talk. She explains why she's so scared and Danny in a fit of guilt and trying to be relevant goes against her wishes to contact the PRT. (Because traumatized teenagers are stupid and he obviously knows better).

Consequences ensue.

This should all wrap up in around 10k words or so but am I making any cringe-worthy jumps that are hard to follow? Critique and or tips appreciated ;)

She could purposefully limit herself and downplay her powers a la Regent and Panacea. Pull off some pseudo-precog/clairevoyance by using others' senses without ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL, cause spasms or "accidents" to happen.

PRt would want that,
but i don't think they'd do anything crazy.

it dosen't sound like it's going to end that bad, the prt aren't gonna go crazy
here's a cape with a very scary power, who is scared to use it
so therefore the consequences stem from danny's betrayal

then we can all get back to our regularly schedules insane prt

This is the same world that sent Canary to the Birdcage. I don't want to get into the whole - but she hurt someone thing - because didn't Wildbow imply that Shadow Stalker murdered people? Taylor - maybe a little freaked out by Lisa - will assume she has no room for error whatsoever.

by wog sophia has killed at most 5 people (while wielding a crossbow and trying to be batman). the PRT has no clue that this happened, they brought her in on something like assault.

Wasn't it all supposed to be doing shit like dangling people out over rooftops trying to interrogate them before realizing she has the upper body strength of a teenage girl and not Batman?

LOL. I thought that was fanon. Holy crap...Wildbow missed out on the priceless opportunity of Lisa screwed with SS's mind by relentlessly poking her with that.

That was one instance, yes. There's no guarantee that all the others were identical.

I do figure that they were all unintentional, though. Sophia is many things, but a deliberate murderer is not one of them, as much as fanon may try to insist otherwise.

probably wouldn't of worked, sophia kind of wrapped herself up in self justification, and nobody she trusted1 was capable of calling her on it. at least thats my interpretation

1 sum total Emma and MAYBE Alan Barnes, both are not in a good headspace.

...I'm not sure if you're kidding or not. You do remember that she tried to slit Skitter's throat right?

Oh this could be quite interesting. Would help if I was better aware of how obvious Kephri's control was for the controlled individual. Can she just, let them keep going and no one will notice? Ala her bugs?

Yeah, that reason reasonable, people would freak out and for good reason.
She doesn't really find another and mindlessly wanders around town (this is where I'm stuck) and runs into Lisa whose shitting bricks at her readings of Taylor. I would suggest some incident precipitating her deciding she needs to just get away from things. Then she just runs off aimlessly and your problem is solved. Cue Lisa, trying to keep her from trying to do herself in (because it would occur to her as a solution) because she can't stand the idea. Her using Regent as an example of 'underselling a power' might be the key to doing that actually.
Then...I dont know...she has a nightmare or something and control's Danny in her sleep. The next morning they talk. That seems workable to me, she hands out orders to Danny and wakes up to realize she did so, then spills it all out at once and he lets her cry herself to sleep.

Then he calls the PRT because good god that's the only thing he can do to help and he can't stand the idea of not being able to help.

From there, I imagine the PRT will look into how bad it is, try not to panic and get Dragon as a counter to Taylor. Maybe have Armsmaster and Kid Win whip up AG using remote drones, isolate her and determine the range and if you can shield against it.

Of course, that's assuming they don't fuck up the acquisition and end up scaring Taylor into fleeing. Coil would LOVE to get his hands on a power like that, and Lisa might gamble that he can't really control her in hopes of getting out from under Coil.

And if she does end up with them?
At the very least, a combination of Grue's darkness and her using his senses to guide everyone in the group would turn the Undersiders into a neigh unstoppable force on the tactical level without the need for outright stealing parahumans from anywhere else.
