Wormverse ideas, recs, and fic discussion thread 1

And then my brain decided to give me a truly.... unique idea. But not only is it centered around Rune as our viewpoint character (With occasional asides to people like Armsmaster for context) but I honestly think I need help to articulate this one.

Volunteers? I'm not saying I'll write it, just that for some reason my muses suddenly all got together and are gushing stuff for it into my head, giving them an outlet might come in handy.

I suppose the best way of summarizing it is 'kinda like a combination of a trapped in another world plot with Tolkien and fairy tale aesthetics'. In the sense of, Rune vanishes, then a week of odd phenomena later shows up trying to warn the Protectorate and Empire that they need to get their shit together because in about an hour or two what's best summarized as 'A fourth End-bringer' is going to show up, trying the seize what she brought to them. 'And if it does, the end-bringers will be the least of our problems.'

Like I said, it's... unique. (not saying it's good, just that I'm pretty sure it's not an angle explored before.)

Regarding the argument, I figure the sequence of events goes like this:

Danny and Annette have a fight. Danny loses his temper. Either Annette takes Taylor and leaves, or she leaves on her own and Taylor leaves later. Either way, Taylor goes to stay at Emma's while things are tense. Taylor is supposed to call her mom at some point but forgets; Annette tries to call or text her, gets in a crash and dies. Taylor later overhears a grieving Danny venting at Annette's body.

There. All bases covered.

Again, how do we know that an argument happened? She could just have easily have gone out to pick Taylor up, or get milk or any other such thing.

It's fine as fanon, I'm just saying there's no reason from canon to assume that an argument occurred.

Actually, I'd say there is a fairly good reason to assume that an argument occurred.

From Danny's Interlude:

Four years ago, he had lost his temper with Annette for the first time, breaking his oath to himself. That had been the last time he had seen her. Taylor hadn't been there to see him shouting at her mother, but he was fairly certain she'd heard some of it. It shamed him.

Okay, you realize that the reason people believe that there was an argument was because of Danny's thoughts? Now, we have Taylor saying that Danny yelled at Annette's corpse. Why assume two yelling sessions when one fits both testimonies?

I found the quote.

I didn't want to think about the month that had followed, but fragments came to mind without my asking. I could remember overhearing my dad berating my mother's body, because she'd been texting while driving, and she was the only one to blame.
Compare with this:

These certainly seem to be talking about the exact same scene to me. No need to assume an extra argument. Plus, Danny said that that was when he broke his oath, if they had a screaming argument beforehand, then his oath would have been broken before.

Hm...

Taylor would probably write Evil!Celestia fics, one of those stories where people go, "Well, she has a problem with authority figures, but if you ignore the bashing, the fight scenes are pretty cool, if a bit brutal at times."

Regent would cheerfully write a bunch of fluff fics and then suddenly, once he has a reputation for it, going in incredibly disturbing directions just to fuck with people. A troll writer-par excellence. Or he might have decently written fics that suddenly go way the fuck off course, and while he doesn't really mind, he doesn't quite get why people think his protagonist is evil. Still, it's one of those stories that are pretty funny if you can move past the feeling that the writer is probably kind of fucked up. Perfect Lionheart-lite.

Rachel can't read lol

I could see Grue writing fairly fluffy family pieces. Maybe.

Lisa would try for fix fics, I imagine. Or stories where people have a fight, and it all gets resolved. Along with the occasional royal court political epic. She gets criticized for making her characters know more than they should, and then getting into fights with readers about how yes, that plot twist was perfectly foreshadowed, they just missed the incredibly obvious hints, god she needs a better class of readers.

Jack Slash likes shipping fics, as long as the romance is tragic in nature. One sided love with rejection or NTR stuff is a favorite of his. Really good prose, excellent and intense pacing, but people don't read his works unless they're comfortable with having their heart's ripped out and torn in pieces. Occasionally switches into genuinely fluffy stuff, or Cupcakes style gorn shenanigans, and those stories types of stories are both labeled as being written for his daughter, with no indication as to which genre it is, along with sudden shifts from one to the other. Has a pretty rabid fanbase/collection of haters, and enjoys egging both groups into conflict.

But I think it might be funniest if Taylor and Regent were the only pony story writers. And possibly knew each other, commenting on the other's works, being kind-of-sort-of friends who occasionally manage to weird the other out.

...

Yes, I somehow started liking Alec/Taylor, despite the fact that he's probably one of the characters that she's least likely to get into a relationship in canon.

...

Also, we are entering an endless recursion of fanfiction.

Well, Grind Amy writes pony yuri stories.

Wasn't this noted to be her body that he was yelling at? It would fit what you quoted.

And to me it reeds differently.

Does Danny mean "The last time he saw Annette [alive]" or "the last time he saw Annette[period]" ?

It's fairly ambigious, but I personally read it as "Danny and Annette had an argument, Annette storms out and dies, later Danny yells at Annette's body."

So basically, Danny only yells once?

But then, where are you getting the first argument from?

Edit: Oh, you mean, Danny broke his oath, yelled. Annette drove off, died. Taylor hears Danny screaming at the corpse. This is what you mean? (I'm winding up for a sting.)

Annette: -becomes undead and stares at him- Yes! -flicks him off and goes back to being dead-

Danny: ....- shocked speechless-

Annette Hebert does not like losing arguments.

Annette as a stand in for Ayumu, as a Zombie.

How does this happen?

Taylor triggers as a necromancer and before she realizes just how overpowered she is, she wishes her mother back to life.

So now, mommy dearest is back, Danny is conflicted but still happy, and Annette will have WORDS with the bitches who have been harming her precious child!

---

Emma - Mrs. HEBERT!

Annette - Hi Girls... *Eyes twitching*

Sophia - Who is this Emma?

Emma - Uhh Uhh.. it's Taylors mom...

Sophia - Didn't you say she was dead?

Annette - I got better. *Eyes REALLY Twitching*

Maddison - How does that even work?

Annette - Oh it wasn't easy. Pushups, situps, and plenty of Juice. But I'm sure the three of you can manage it... somehow.

Sophia - What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Emma - *Starts backing away in dawning realization*

Annette - Oh nothing much. You should probably follow little Emma's example. *Pulls out a stained axe*

Sophia - What the fuck?

Maddison - *Screams, wets herself, and runs*

Annette - This is where you run little girl.

I've been thinking about Theo centered stories and am now wonder what his relationship was like with Fenja and Menja. Because if I remember right Kaiser had custody of both girls until they were legally adults, making the Theo's step sisters and I think before that they were cousins. So I'm thinking their relationship is similar to distant siblings.

This seem right?

Thus, the zombie queen Annette was born.

You know, I'd find it darkly humorous, that with all these fics of having Annette being a great parent, it turns out that she's just as bad at it as Danny.

Maybe even worse for maximum irony.

And now the Annette in my head is voiced by Tara Strong.... forever.

*glances over at Phantom Shadow*

*glances at above comment*
And now I remember why that actress scares me.

Annette Hebert doesn't lose arguments. She just escalates until you give in. This is where Taylor got it from.

Purple pink scales? Shifted feets? Totally a Daemonette of Slaanesh. I approve wholeheartedly.

Headcanon confirmed. Annette is the source of escalation... unless it is Deadeye Danny. He counts too in that case.

Question: Manton, when he left Cauldron, stole a vial and ran, then got cornered and drank the vial and got the power to make Siberian. So did the heroes chasing him just assume that he got the power to change from an out of shape middle aged man into a physics breaking zebra woman? And then after the fight, after getting what information they could about the vial he drank, why didn't they try to find Manton himself instead of dealing with the projection?
Your timeline's wrong. He drank the vial before leaving Cauldron, and either Doctor Mother didn't figure it out or didn't tell them until after they confronted the Siberian and s/he killed Hero. The Protectorate had no idea Manton was involved at all until after the fact, and Legend didn't know until they spilled the beans post Brockton Bay. As for why they didn't confront Manton, Doctor Mother managed to convince Alexandria and Eidolon that leaving him alive would drive people to join the Protectorate, doing more good than harm in their view. The details are in Alexandria's interlude, 15.z if you want to check for yourself.

Annette Rose Hebert got into a staring contest with Lung once. the only confirmed survivors were her family.

Her daughter was quoted as saying "I Wanna be just like Mommy when I grow up!"

Years later, Lung wondered why a chill ran down his spine when he turned to confront the obviously-a-rookie cape.
