The problem with music is that it's performance art, and she didn't really write/sing/play those songs.

I mean it's obvious 'I stole this, please feel free to steal it too, because i won't be able to prove it's mine'. Not so much of a problem if you're going to burn the identity, but I'd also pretty much expect the IRS to jump down your throat later.

Art collector/artist has better possibilities as long as you prepare a elaborate cover of being 'higher class', because no one expects the artist to provide a video of the painting being done.

Indeed, high art collectibles are a traditional way of tax avoidance among the bastards, though in this case i'd recommend the 'new rich artist' cover.

Not in this universe. You can sell art if it doesn't exist anywhere else. It's pretty easy to see if it was plagiarised but in this case it's not as if exists in this dimension, so by all rights it belongs to mc.

Again, the problem is not 'oh people will 'prove' we stole it from another universe or just stole'.

The problem is the company realizing 'non-person is asking me to sell original work that's totally obvious is not from her, lmao, just steal it from the thief and see you in court baby'. Just the usual capitalist abuses.

Resuming: cash in hand, no attachment transactions are better (or viable at all), and those work better with physical object, non performative transactions, especially if you're already contacting the traditional way to avoid taxation, a art dealer.

Its fairly easy to prove the timeline and who had the songs first with tech like this. Because if companies acted like this they would be destroyed fairly quickly. Plus our mc is a fake noble so these guys wouldn't try to steal from us.

There are two alternatives in that scenario:

Either the music agent is on the up-and-up, and will want a - exploitative, because that's how popular music works - contract and you'll have to forge a flimsy identity (possible with the device i guess, but pretty good way to get investigated by the IRS-equivalent later when you pass over paying taxes cause you aren't there and the identity gets burned). That contract is likely to specify things you don't want, such as 'performances', 'music videos', 'marketing/PR events' and 'royalties performance targets' (ie: delayed money).

Or the music agent is a Trumpian level crook and takes the songs, bullshits some dead artist no one knew about composed them for them with this 'totally legit contract' and starts selling it like that. That agent is very very likely to be a A+ grade scammer sociopath and would totally do what i described.

For the art dealer, there is no way to prove who made the art, we can simply say we are a collector ourselves who is selling our collection. The gallery director is unlikely to try to scam a noble, please keep in mind that nobles in this world hold a lot of power, enough to redraw planetary maps much less crush a small art gallery.

Its the same for the local radio station, they are small and local, they will never have the gall to stand up to a noble.

I'm bored of the argument, so i won't drill down into what i disagree (i agree with the gallery director not biting the hand that feeds because that's their traditional role of money laundering).

It is time to sell your ill-gotten goods.

Also to act like some stereotypical posh blueblood from a bad period drama.

If this really works you are going to think less of the universe.

Can you lead me?

Don't worry, I know how to handle this.

The words do not fill you with confidence as you approach the nearby art gallery.

Now browbeat your way through the lackeys.

You promptly bulldoze your way past the receptionist demanding to see the director to air your concerns as 'a normal subject'. The odds aren't looking good for the universe.

Now you will be taken to the administrator.

You immediately run into a problem. Not the one you expected.

"I will call the gendarmes if you don't leave this instant girl," the flamboyantly dressed dandy you are supposed to meet spits in your face.

You still look like some foreign hiker or farm worker, a weirdly dressed one.

Whoops you really should have remembered. How annoying. You thought a certain someone would point it out.

Now keep going Alice. All diplomatic measures should be pursued.

Well it's not like you could have done anything about it, you don't have enough local currency.

"I wish to discuss a matter of mutual-"

"Thrash like you have no place here."

That rude piece of shit.

Now threaten to have him killed.

What- why?
You freeze, surprised.

Then carry out the threat if the fop doesn't listen!

No!

A flash of rage surges through you. You see red. No one forces you to act like a movie villain! Your hands clench into fists.

Pah, no matter. Diplomatic measures have prevailed.

You take a moment to compose yourself. Unclenching your fists, the red haze swiftly goes away.

One way or another the director has backed himself up against the wall, eyes full of terror.

What happened? Why would a man in his prime be sacred of little old you? You do not cut an imposing figure, you're not that scary.

You fill your telepathic voice with false arrogance and coldness.

Call the gendarmes and I will have them beat a little worm such as you into a new, very painful shape.

The man cowers some more and screeches that clichéd line about having a family.

Now he knows you are a mage and are probably very much higher up in the food chain. You abruptly switch to a more saccharine tone.

How sweet, do you want to tell me more about them or discuss the business I wanted to talk with you today before things got unpleasant?

Taking the opening you give him the man bids you into his office with quick flattery and apologies.

"Once again sorry, what do you have for me, excellency?"

"I have a collection of art from a previously uncontacted world. Give me a price and my device will transfer it over." Metatron told you most of their things would be replicas made from blueprints.

"We do not have much liquid funds excellency, we are a public arthouse."

He has the gall to bargain with you? Hmm… perhaps not.

"Give me your best offer, I do not lack for funds in daylight terms." You use an old turn of speech implying you want deniable funds.

"Of course, of course." The now mostly calm art director shuffles over to a cabinet.

That went fairly well all considered.

Metatron, how do they even exhibit the displays if all you have is digital data?

They recreate it with high fidelity, imagine printing things in three dimensions.

That seems really hard to imagine.

The man, whose name you haven't bothered to learn, hands you a pile of money.

For some reason you feel like a mafia figure. It's not like you're running a protection racket, it was a simple business transaction.

The first thing you do with your new-found small fortune is buy more suitable clothes.

Normally this would be exciting, but the fashions here are strange and unfamiliar.

At least now you probably don't stand out.

Your meeting with the manager of the radio station goes better. Your introduction as a treasure hunter of sorts was enough to land you in a grimy sitting room with the man.

What followed were a short round of pleasantries during which he surely noticed you were not what you seemed. This impression likely deepened when you sent him some samples using your 'family heirloom'. Said heirloom got a snicker out of that.

"People generally don't like listening to unfamiliar music, now this devalues how much it is worth."

"I have had a trying day, do not test me gentle sir."

"I'm only speaking from experience. Please don't ignore an unpleasant message from an unlucky messenger."

"Give me a price that isn't absurdly low or I will go elsewhere. I don't like haggling."

Make it seem like you don't really know how to bargain to play up the act. Honestly, you're happy with whatever you get. Extended bargaining would only poke holes in your flimsy cover story.

Some more time passes as the manager listens to more music. In the end you get a decent sum of money, selling over a couple hundred songs along with an invite to return for business in the future.

At least you can bring this annoying noble act to an end.

It's not five stars and there are strange looking appliances but its good enough.

We need to discuss what to do next.

Do we try to make more money?

I think that's a wasted gesture in a relatively primitive place like this. The focus should be on repairing me.

So its offworld then?

Yes, I have a few options I will brief you on later, but I should bring up something important first. If you take a trip onboard a dimensional ship, I am unsure if you will be able to return to your original home through your ability.

How would that be the case? Would I be unable to world walk?

No, but those alternate worlds would be different. The chain back to your home dimension would be broken. It's a somewhat minor problem but I thought I should bring it to your attention. The way around it - if you get into trouble in another world - is to world walk, travel some distance, say ten kilometres, and then go back. Avoid the trouble and find a ship back to Cordamar.

That's some complication. It should expose you to some risk but it shouldn't be too bad unless you mess up.

You have 36 hours before the dimensional freighter arrives. There is time to go shopping, or to call off the expedition.

What do you do next?

So I like what your saying for the most part but we should probably grab anything of value (be it monetary, sentimental, or other) before we potentially lose our way home possibly forever.

Just how low amount of music and art did we sell that we only got enough money to rent and eat for a few months. I feel like either you are making stuff overpriced or giving us too little money for what was sold.

Well, nothing ventured nothing gained. Idk if this stuff is available on this world but if it is I would like to buy it now.

We don't need history books or travel guides, we have an AI that can get all this shit for free on the internet. No one pays for travel guides and you can pirate books extremely easily.

I have added some things to buy and taken some out. Cordamar currency will be useless once we leave here best to convert it all, if we need it when we are back we can convert some TSAB to this one. I am not seeing any reason to keep unusable currency around when we can convert it to be more useful. There is a lot of stuff I added and we might not be able to buy it all with the current money, in that case, mc can prioritize and buy what she thinks is currently important.

Not really a concern, this planet is not going anywhere and even if we cannot make it temporarily as long as we can make it to anywhere within the TSBA multidimential sectors we can find our way back here and then back home.

Can you guys tell me why you want to buy history books and travel guides? Most books can be acquired for free with no risk and our AI traveled tons with our dad in the TSAB sector so he should be pretty knowledgable about these things. Even if he is not he can spend a couple of milliseconds going through 1000s of books and websites to get acquainted.

I predict we will not be able to get our dads hidden stashes easily, this is why I want to buy that stuff. We are almost guaranteed to get into conflict. Without some basic survival supplies and a way to travel things could go very wrong.

We cannot fight fully armed high tech soldiers much less real magic users who actually have a working device. So at the minimum, we need a way to scout things out and escape if we see trouble on the way. Really spending our already limited money on history books and travel guides give us 0 benefits. There is also no reason to keep the current single world currency when we can convert to a multi-world currency. What could we possibly use the old currency for if we do not convert? There will be nowhere to spend it on until we are back.

What? When did we see that, I might be blanking but I am pretty sure we have seen no reason to distrust what Metatron tells us about history.
Uh...we've seen that Metatron is about as hilariously cockeyed in its worldview as a 19th century colonial power. Everyone else is primitive or retarded compared to True Belkan Might

He still hasn't lied to us about it, he might think royalty is best and stuff like that but history is history. He is indeed correct though, in his empires time what he says was true. Everyone else is a primitive retard compared to old Belkan tech. Literally, the TSBA hunts for tech called lost logia which they do not understand and equate them to godlike tech, those things are from Old Belkan.
