(Kaka POV)
This place is unlike anything else he had ever knew. That is the impression that the young human man named Kaka has as he carefully examine his current surrounding.
Kaka is what his tribe would consider as the bringer of food, a hunter. One that has been quite successful despite how not too long ago it was when he is considered to be mature enough to inherit the duties of his late father, Koko. 'Gifted' he was told, for he was able to catch much rats and grubs for everyone to eat all by himself.
To Kaka, he doesn't really consider himself to be 'Gifted' like how everyone often tells on with each others about. No. For all what Kaka did was just respecting what his old Pa had once taught him in the past.
"Listen to the Sound." He says.
"Breath in the Smell." He adds. Those are the words which Kaka had lived by quite faithfully. For in the Dark, either can meant there are potential food to be had, or potential danger to move away from.
Both of which are difficult to keep a track of when there are idiots who uselessly follows him around on his outings. The lackness of either is the only thing Kaka is trusting to keep himself alive and safe to return back to the tribe with enough food for everyone. Even if it means he would never bring back the storied amount the elders often tell was possible with many of the tribe's people.
Thus, it is why Kaka is feeling so distraught when he is now forced to go back to everyone with only so little to his name. Even after he had gone and left together with all the other food bringers alongside. All at his own wish too.
"Hey." Said Besa suddenly. Making Kaka flinch before he quickly turns to face one of the few from his age group who he can truly consider as a friend. A strong man twice his size who, even through the Dark, Kaka still knows well enough to see how the other food bringer must be currently giving a wide smug smile towards him. "Don't be so glum. We'll get lot's next time!"
"Shh! Quiet!" Kaka replied harshly with a few quick taps on Besa's shoulder. Head twirling from side to side to see if there is anything that wants to jump at them because of Besa's idiocy.
"Heh. Worry not. Look. Back tribe." Continued Besa while using the large bone he is holding to point out the many faint figures who are waiting around for them. Making Kaka realize how they must have gotten close to their new home while he was distracted. "Nothing hear us anyway."
"Still!" Kaka tries to futilely insist, now not even bothering to resist speaking. Knowing how Besa had just simply spoken the truth.
This place is just utterly clashing with Kaka's view of the world. The sounds of the living water is just so loud for him, and no matter where the young man did go, there always seems to be something overwhelming which keeps on attacking his nose as long as he is near. All of which are affecting the result of his few recent gatherings.
Everything in Kaka's being is screaming at him to leave immediately and quickly, despite knowing how this is the safest where they could be. All thanks to the being who is living just inside it.
In the end, Kaka can only sigh defeatedly under Besa's satisfied chuckle. For now, he would just walked past the expectant forms of his fellow tribe people before putting one of the skin bundle containing most of what he had gathered at the center of their home. Just like what the other food bringers are doing. While also keeping the other one filled with the rest only for himself and those of his blood. Meaning, only for one other.
The one other who Kaka can hear is swiftly coming towards him and Besa while giggling around with herself playfully.
"You back!" Cheerfully said Kiki with a leap. Giving Kaka, her older born of Koko's blood, with a warm welcoming hug which he returned swiftly. Before she then turns the target of her affection towards Besa, who repeated the action carefully for she is only slightly larger than his arm. "Bring lots?"
"Lots." Answered Kaka with a sigh and a smile. Putting his last remaining bundle beside the big smooth stone which all three of them had already claimed to be used only by themselves. An action which is soon followed by Besa. "Spoke?"
"Nothing hear us!" Replied Kiki. Loudly. Just like Besa. Causing Kaka's sigh to grow and become a fully matured groan which sounded as if it was so full of it's own suffering. Something which the two idiots beside him immediately used to laugh at him with much glee within their cries.
Their cheer, however, seems to like jumping itself around many different people. For it doesn't take long for Kaka to began laughing along with them as they all began to sit themselves around on the ground while staying close with each other.
Something which, Kaka pretty much blamed Besa around for. "Besa! Kiki, your fault!"
"Sorry, Kaka. Hehe. Sorry." Excused the bigger one among the three casually. Begging for the forgiveness which he wouldn't receive. For Kaka is done talking, and is now on the attack.
"Hey!?" Exclaimed Besa as he felt his face being suddenly pushed away by a firm hand. Immediately, he slapped the offending limb away from him, only for it to come back moments later with a friend. Both hands then keeps on attacking him no matter what Besa did until he eventually become nothing more than a pair of struggling bodies between himself and Kaka "Stop! Hey!? Sorry Kaka! STOP! Kiki! HEEEELP!!"
Instead of rescuing Besa however. All Kiki did was only repositioning herself close to his back, before she then began to swiftly choke the big man out. "Blood for Blood!" She declared loyally for Kaka.
"TRAITORRRR!" Despaired loudly by Besa. Something which might cause some annoyance to those who are staying close to them before. Not here though. Nothing would be able to hear them from afar anyway. So they simply continued on, keep on messing around with each other without any concern to their surrounding.
Soon enough however, their commotion come to the end, and they began to talk about other things they are interested in. A rare experience, especially for the three.
"Hard?" Questioningly tapped Kiki on Kaka. Asking whether her older blood's outing really was that much difficult when he is doing it so closely to the large living pond. Something which she can only offer a few gentle rubs of comfort with once Kaka is done explaining himself. "Living water bad?"
"No." Kaka firmly denies. Confusing the two who are sitting next to him.
"Neptcys?" Asked Besa as to why despite of the result of their outing.
"...different." Simply answered Kaka. For that is the only way he was able to explain it. "Worth."
That is just how it is for Kaka. He knows very well how Besa doesn't really think the same and is only staying here because of them instead of just leaving with any other tribe who had also thought similarly. Still, Kaka genuinely believes how Neptcys is just unlike all the other Gods the tribe had ever encountered with in the Dark.
Nevermind it had protected the tribe from Thanoigea who had been following them around ever since they had ran away from their previous long home. Kaka simply felt like Neptcys is just somehow different from all the rest. An idea which is further reinforced by how... caring the God was when it decided to let them go instead of just drowning them with all the living water it keeps on pouring out of it's body.
Kaka's old Pa had often told him about the stories of his own past outings. With a few he remembered was about how his Pa had sometimes been saved by an unimaginable entity when he was in times of great danger. Something which Kaka still doesn't know how it all ended. Even now, after he couldn't learn more about it.
The spawn of Koko might be just losing it, but wasn't what had happened here is not strangely the same? It might be just some wishful thinking, but he still hoped to have something similar to what his Pa once had.
As Kaka let's his gaze wander into the large pond of those living water that they are all staying near to, the young food bringer simply can't help himself but to wonder whether the God he was just thinking about is lurking there. Very closely. Just silently watching them behind the noises it's home keeps on making without stopping.
For a moment, Kaka had even thought he had heard something splashing somewhere much further into the pond. Which couldn't possibly be right, for the water is lifeless and still over there. Just like any water should have been.
Kaka was just about to continue his talk with Besa before Kiki completely distracts him by shouting a single word. "NEPTCYS!"
WHAT!? Thought Kaka in shock. Immediately, him and every other Human of the Kekala Tribe snapped their necks towards the pond of always roaring water. Guessing how if a God should ever wanted itself to appear, then the middle of the pond would most likely be it.
And sure enough, there it is.
Neptcys looks just as immense as the last time Kaka had seen it with his own eyes. Even through the Dark, the young man is still able to clearly see how the God's large imposing form is looming high and proud over the pond. Just staying there. Watching ominously along with the sounds of it's raging water what they, the Humans, would do in it's direct presence.
It then began to slowly move. Making Kaka felt as if his breath is stuck in his throat. Thankfully however, the God is only raising one of it's arm. Waving it back and forth towards them. Beckoning all of them to come near.
A beckon which nobody seems to be willing to follow. Even Kaka. The young man was amongst those who have argued for the tribe to stay around, all in the hopes of getting the God's protection. Just like how it had easily chased off Thanoigea before for them.
And yet, when Neptcys calls for him, all that Kaka can do is only crouching still with his mouth agape. Doubting. Did he made the right decision? Did he helped dooming everyone by making them an easy prey for a God they have mostly know nothing about? All due to a mere
feeling that he had?
He doesn't know. Kaka simply doesn't know. And, the thought of getting it wrong... it terrified him. It just completely terrified him.
The God does not have the patience to wait for him however. It tilts what it seems to be it's head to the side. Looking confused at what Kaka and all the other Humans are doing just staying still.
It then raised the arm it has already been using even higher, before bringing it back down with one mighty motion. Causing the pond it struck to become frenzied. Releasing the pack of living waters that it has towards them with a loud boom!
Everyone then went into panic. Kiki is screaming on him. Besa is pulling at him and telling him to quickly run away. But, Kaka is doing neither. He just stood there. Silently shaking againts the incoming charge. Knowing how he is part to blame for the situation, and are just simply accepting what is about to come.
Within moments, the tall waters are just about to reach them. Not giving anyone a chance needed for them to escape. Kiki is now holding onto him, while Besa is covering them with his bulk. Both of them not wanting to let Kaka be alone in the end.
Then surprisingly, they stopped. Right before Kaka's helpless eyes, the terrifying charge just suddenly burst againts the land's rocky surface. Spraying everyone with a large deluge of cool refreshing water, and leaving in front of them a large number of rapidly flopping...
fish?
Kaka is stunned. Everyone else also seems to have reacted quite similarly. After thinking about how they are all going to soon die, all that they can do now after not dying painfully is just staring right in the eyes of the confused looking group of fish. Feeling almost mutually the same.
Stealing a glance towards the God. Kaka sees it just waiting there serenely for them. And before he could thought some more about it however, someone else had already stepped forward to reach what has been send towards them.
Their body is thin from what little Kaka can barely see in the Dark. But it doesn't seem to stop them from taking one of the fish which is jumping around desperately on the ground straight into their hand before they then began to ravenously ate the creature right then and there. The sound of which are going loudly even amidst all the roaring water.
Nervously, Kaka also decided to step forward. Slowly taking the closest fish around, the young man fearfully takes a single bite out of the still struggling creature. Where the taste of it seems to come to life right in his mouth.
Delicious. That is the only thing which Kaka could even use to describe the feeling of what he is currently tasting. He had never have before ate anything like it in his life. As he bite more and more into the firm and yet soft moisty meat of the creature in his grasp, that word is the only thing that keeps on repeating itself in his mind. He just can't seem to get enough out of it.
Delicious... *CRUNCH*
Delicious... *SLUURP*
SO delicious... *GULP*
Delicious... *CRUNCH*
So... very... delicious.... *CRUNCH*
Eventually however, Kaka found nothing else to eat in his hands. Having already ate through the entirety of the creature.
Looking around, the young man was also able to faintly see and hear how there are many others who had also seems to have experienced the same thing he has, and is now eager for more. With Kiki and the rest having seemingly not being able to get any before the others sadly.
Thankfully, when Kaka turn his gaze towards Neptcys in the distance. The young man was on time to see a shape that had just jumped out of the water before quickly returning back to it. Creating a sound which he clearly remembered. That must be the origin of that splashing noise he had heard not too long ago!
The God then raises one of it's massive hand once more, and with it, causing even more of those shapes to jump in and out of the water, making Kaka realize how they are actually the very same thing he had just eaten. And after gesturing for them to come once again, Neptcys simply dived itself back into it's pond. Dissappearing quickly from their line of sight.
After that, looking towards the expectant gaze of Kiki and the excited expression of Besa on both of his sides, Kaka the food bringer knew exactly what he needs to do.
Thus, Kaka ran straight towards the water and jumped right into it's scary depths without any kind of hesitation in him. Followed closely by his friend and a lot of others from his tribe.
Thank you. Prayed Kaka as he catch one big fish in his hands after moving with some difficulty.
Thank you, Neptcys. Thank you so very much.
(
<Neptcys> POV)
What makes for a good food to eat?
Well, you honestly do not know. It definitely would not be something which will be able to resist being eaten, that's for sure. Though there's obviously going to be something more to it than just that.
The phenomenon of consumption is not a concept that is foreign to you. As the God of the Sea, you are not a stranger to the acts of eating and being eaten that is being constantly perpetuated by the many inhabitants of your domain. And, considering just how prevalent they really are, they could even be considered as a very integral part of Life itself. Something which is well within your purpose to give and provide.
Frustratingly however, the knowledge which you do possess does not belong to someone who is an active participant, but one belonging to a rather detached observer instead. A fact which you are quite annoyed about.
You do not fully understand the reason why all creatures seemed to has a strong instinctive need for sustenance within their small existence. It is just within their nature, you supposed. That, you at least know quite well about. But, you lacked the necessary experience to comprehend truly the full meaning behind the behavior.
The only thing you are able to grasp out of the concept was how every creature will seemingly always try to devour existences other than themselves in a manner that is quite periodical. And, how they are going to just waste away if they didn't manage to do enough in time.
It's a very distressful thing to be aware about. But, you currently didn't know how to do anything which would help you change a single part of it even slightly for the better. So, all you could do to make it easier for the Humans is to give them a nearby location where they would be able to quickly get their sources of sustenance from.
If that's all there is to it then there wouldn't be much for you to worry about. But no. Instead, you also need to worry about what kind of things you had which are safe to be eaten by Humans.
The matter can't just seem to be done simply. For one, you are pretty sure how Humans wouldn't want to eat a bunch of your hard corals. You just don't get the feeling they are going to particularly enjoy the sensations of chewing through any.
Then there's also the matter of not giving them anything which would harm them upon immediate digestion. Just like what you had occasionally seen happening between some of your marine life.
...You also need to understand how any of those could even happened to begin with.
Regardless, all of that more are the concerns which you kept on thinking very much about until the Humans have finally begun to enjoy what you had managed to bring just for them. Something which swept up your being fully with joy.
You are a little bit confused about their initial reactions towards you, but you decided to not put much thought into it. There are many things which is far more deserving of your attention.
Like your strange attraction toward these Humans for an example.
With them now swimming freely inside of your very domain, even a simple closer look of them had already told you about so much. With you first trying to affect the Humans in front of you only to soon being met with some... resistance.
There seems to be something on their bo- no, something
inside of their bodies which is providing them with some kind of protection. From you. It extend outwards from them to make a thin invisible layer of something
else roughly their own hand away from them which covers every single one of these Humans completely.
These are obvious to you because you are able to control anything which exist within your Sea. Doesn't matter what they are, as long as something is in the Place you are ruling over, then you are able to affect them.
Thanoigea is the only exception to this fact which you have encountered. And even then, it is more because it is also trying to affect you with an equal amount of force at the time rather than because of an unknown trait that it has.
These Humans however?
They are different. Is what you thought as you discreetly come within the grabbing range of a Human who is trying to catch one of your fish. His eyes simply passing through your form which is no different from the rest of the surrounding water.
They did not block you entirely. You are still able to affect them, but only with something small. And, you are also pretty sure about how you are able to break through their feeble resistance if only you had put some more into your effort. You just didn't know whether that would alert them had you decided to do so.
The strength of these layers vary between each Human you had examined, and you just don't know enough about them to figure out why. From those which seems to be more accepting of your influence however, you are able to sense how they are the exact reason why you are feeling so energized ever since quite recently.
You seems to be absorbing some kind of energy from them. It doesn't look like you are causing them harm when you did so. But what kind of power is this? You aren't exactly sure. The process just somehow feels very natural. But, along with it, you are also able to... hear their thoughts?
Are they... thanking me? Praising me? You questioned as you gradually move yourself away from them. Having already completed the reason why you have come this close to the Humans for in the first place and are simply not wanting to disturb them anymore. Especially now, when they all seems to be so happy.
Strange. Is what you kept on thinking as you dive deeper and deeper within your Sea's Dark briny depths. All the while, you're just simply enjoying the beautiful sight of the many Marine Snow that is falling together with you. With your mind struggling for a little bit at not getting mesmerized by the very calming movement that they have as you sank yourself slowly along with them.
They are just thinking about me. Believing
in what I can do. There's no reason for me to put this much thought about it. And yet...
You wouldn't mind for them to put their believe in you even more.
