Why Have One Wang When You Can Have Four? (Shadow Warrior 2)

Have you ever wanted to travel the world? Have you ever wanted to meet interesting new people, watch them get eaten by ravenous demons and then blow up said demons with a tri-barrel rocket launcher whilst covered in magic tattoos and wielding an ancient magic sword of the apocalypse?

If the answer to any of these questions, but mainly the second one, is "yes", then please take some time to purchase and play 2013's Shadow Warrior, by Flying Hog Studios. Don't mind me, I'll wait.

Had your fill? I thought not. Well you needn't worry about how you're going to get your next dose of Wang, because he's back, and he brought friends.

Shadow Warrior 2: now with more guns, more blades, more killers, and the same amount of Wang.

Lo Wang's got what you need, baby

This is what I needed.

LOOOOOOOOOOO WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG

I hope we see more of the art style from the last game's cinematics.

Those were fun.

Are you saying that Lo Wang is the true identity of Captain Hammer?!?

No wonder he's such a great hero!

GLORIOUS

GLOOOOOOORIOUUUUUUUS

Only thing is it doesn't seem like that's the sword we ended up with at the end of the last game.

That, and it looks like Players 2+ are stuck being mercenaries, perhaps without access to the same range of tools and tricks as Wang himself. I don't mind being a faceless goon for co-op purposes, but I do mind having way fewer toys.

Same video with dudes talking over it, including devs/publisher.

Every player experiences the game as Lo Wang, while everyone else appears as Ninjaman #4 (so: everyone has the same access to the same abilities/toys).

Did somebody request more Wang? 15 minutes of Wang, perhaps? snip vid
I'm liking what I'm seeing. Apparently we can roofhop now. And sneak around while invisible and backstab monsters. And that minigun looked really sexy, though I'm not wild about the rocket launcher being a break-action. I'm not too sure about the co-op partners being restricted to humantech gear and techniques, and I hope that the game will be balanced to account for the fact that some of us like to play solo. I wonder if that pickup would allow you to dualwield rocket launchers or miniguns, or if it's restricted to the SMGs.

It will certainly be interesting to see what they make of this.

As I understand it, everyone play's Wang, but sees other players as mooks.

I'm sorry, did you just ask for more Wang?

You did? I thought so.

Good thing too, because I've got enough Wang to last you a full 12 minutes*.

Get on, baby. We're going huntin'.

*hell that's enough for two goes and like 10 minutes worth of cuddling!

Seriously though, what about Hoji?? ;_;
Well, he's dead, isn't he? I do see where you're coming from, though. Hoji got a bucket of shit out of life.

That aside, it does look interesting. Not as brown as CoD or Doom 4, but nicely fast-paced and with a variety of weapons to choose from, though the twin swords seem to be the best allrounder option as in the first game. I don't particularly mind, as long as the other weapons are also worth using.

They seem to be going for more of a Borderlands experience this time around. I liked Borderlands, so it's not neccesarily a bad thing. I do have to wonder what the pickups do, though; some of them are obvious, like the medic bag or the ammunition box, but some of the others like the demon mask are more cryptic.

I wonder how the procedurally generated levels are going to work. Like Torchlight, where there's just a variety of pregenerated terrain chunks that are simply fitted together in various ways? Or something else?

Honestly my main worry about this is that it ends up as a series of characterless arenas with the occasional NPC telling you to murder this or that demon, with little variety in the array of nasties to kill...

...Even though it'd probably still be a decent experience all in all. I mean can't go wrong with Wang.

Oh god, the areas are open. With the Shadow Warrior tendency to like hiding secrets everywhere, I'm gong to waste so much time on wild goose chases.

Wow, where'd you see that? If it's true, I wonder how they're going to ensure that they're all distinct and worth using. I just hope they don't go the CoD route of making them near-indistinguishable except for minor stat differences, but I doubt that's going to happen considering what we've seen so far.
