Its weird that despite the amount of evidence Taylor put in the air both Blackwell and Emma are free as birds. Emma I can understand with her father threatening to sue, but Blackwell should be put on a 'sabattical' by the school board while they investigate, if only to keep her out of sight of the media.

That depends on the track the media and various other organizations decide to take. I'm guessing, given that both Emma and Principal Blackwell seem to have been forgotten that the focus is on the PRT's actions and that Blackwell, probably with help from the PRT's political enemies presented herself as attempting to do her job but hampered by the PRT's interference.

No, I wouldn't think it would make sense in Emma's world.

Very well done.
This, so much.

Perhaps they don't have anyone to replace her with, and/or she has blackmail on someone on the school board (no, if she had blackmail on someone, she'd likely have used it to get a better school).

Perhaps it's just an example of how corrupt and useless the Brockton Bay school board is.

EDIT: Also, see TheUnicorn's post in #227, above.

You know I almost, almost feel sorry for Emma. Not what's happening to her, she has nobody to blame for that but herself, but rather for how utterly twisted and distorted her worldview has become since she started hanging out with Sophiea. She seems to genuinely believe that there was nothing wrong with any of what she did to Taylor, and that the world would just move on without consequence like nothing had happened. And now she can't seem to wrap her mind around the simple fact that things have changed and the consequences of her actions are finally coming back to bite her in the ass. Hard.

Girl needs some serious help.

This feels almost unnaturally karmic. Like a certain tinker decided hacking into FaceSpace and rubbing some salt in the self-inflicted wound was a good idea - or maybe just some behind-the-scenes social engineering. Even Emma had to have had people that would close ranks rather than go SHUN SHUN SHUN at that, right?

Right?

Seriously, this is a gang school, filled to the brink with racism, violence, and casual jaywalkers. There are people there that would shrug off something like that as just another Tuesday.

I think it's more a matter of not trying yourself to a sinking ship. Emma and pals were made super public. The more distance you can get from the exploding star the better.

Honestly, the E88 after Sophia's blood and having enough bile to spare for Sophia's associates is also a pretty powerful disincentive.

This isn't just being socially shunned, this is potentially keeping yourself off of the E88's hit list. People might not like E88, but I doubt people care enough about Emma to risk being called a race traitor when the E88 is getting active.

The saddest part I found:

I missed Sophia. She'd offered to take me with her, but losing her and having to put up with a few weeks of boredom was better than life on the run. Besides, when push came to shove, she had run. Me? I could come back from this. I could. Just stay quiet, act contrite, talk about how I'd learned my lesson if the subject ever came up. Easy.

With the whole deal blown open, and with the E88 and Protectorate likely out for her head, Sophia still took the time to try and convince Emma to get out of dodge and take her with her. Emma casually dumps the only real friend she had left.

Also, kind of ironic how she mentions Sophia is weak for running, while talking about her plan to hide and keep quiet to avoid getting in trouble.

Karma is a bitch.

Also, I do not think Sophia is a lesbian in this story.

Still probably broke her heart to loose her only real friend though.

I know I was mostly joking. Still had to hurt. It's deserved certainly but still.

I agree with that.

-edit-

But what did she expect from befriending someone who already dropped their life long friend under the bus?

That right there should have gave Sophia warning bells that she would be dropped as a friend by Emma if things happen.

Sophia is a terrible person, but her loyalty to the few she does care about is a good quality. Kind of why I was disappointed in another fix that had Sophia drop Emma the instant Taylor proved to be a badness. While her crush was played for laughs, it also took away the one good quality she had.

If you are talking about monk! Taylor, Sophia hasn't dropped Emma.

I'm beginning to suspect that Emma has a few issues.

Don't be silly! Emma doesn't have issues, she has a SUBSCRIPTION

Looks like Emma has a case of Chronic Backstabbing Syndrome. For her, a best friend is a flunky, someone to make her feel better about herself, and someone to be discarded when their current position is not advantageous/she finds a more useful flunky.

Still probably broke her heart to loose her only real friend though.

I don't know why Sophia would be surprised, though. She saw what Emma did to her previous best friend. Did she really think a leopard would change its spots?

I know, I said that.

Well, the thing is that, really, what they did (probably) isn't actually illegal. The locker probably, but I don't know if that was caught on record, and everything before that was scummy as hell but not technically actionable. Keep in mind, as messed up as it is the American legal system is incredibly overworked and doesn't really view bullying as 'really' bad. Sophia was in a worse position because she was a Ward, plus the whole 'probation' thing, which meant she had already been convicted and could be sent back to juvie for any reason.
