[X] The Truth Of Horrors (Know those who failed...)
Something's not right. The sky's too clear right now. It's not that there's no clouds there. It's that there's a lack of humidity, of moisture in the air. As if something's sapping it. Draining it.
As if the water is fleeing from something, a thought that receives something of a confirmation when you watch a student press down on the button of a water fountain. The water comes out steady but... It's angled slightly. As if it's being forced away from something.
But there's nothing that you can see to cause this. Or at least, there's no physical thing that you can see to cause this. Magically... Well magically's a whole other story.
You creep through the school, seeing instances where water is just... Being pushed. And what is doing the pushing is this strange red mass that flickers and twists, constraining the water, forcing it away. It's a spell of some sort but you're not sure what the purpose could be. What could be gained from forcing all the water away?
Following the tendrils, you make your way to the roof of the school and look out and look at the flowing lines, stretching away, down into the ground.
What could be under the ground causing this? And how can it do this to all the water that's in the air? What could-
You look up and away at a mass of magic tendrils, far off in the distance, forming a shape.
Oh.
Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Thhhhhhaaaaaaaat's what.
You've got a Horror camping under the school, using its power from below the ground to cause something that'll bring fear it can feed on.
That's...
That's not good.
At all.
(Discovered The Hellish Light. It's doing something...)

It's lunch time and Alex and Gunnolf are off eating, discussing your alliance between one another, what they can do to help you, and how to fight off their own foes as well. The kids are all at lunch, eating and chatting away happily.
The Beast is still agitated. The Prism-Thing is flickering wildly. And The Horror's influence still reigns triumphant above ground even as it hides below.
Oh god why. I guess this thing is turning up the heat on us in preparation for feeding.
Since it's the horror representing the fear of Droughts, our two day clock is probably the time it'll take to dry up all the water in the town.
What really sucks is that while the Drowning Horror and Stars Above were/are relatively benign, I'm pretty sure we can't let the Hellish Light set up shop, or Ela and our new charges will probably experience Heatstroke (or at least heat exhaustion), which can be life-threatening, especially considering the fact that they're kids.
Yep. Few supernatural creatures are truly evil, they're just acting out on their instincts.
That being said there's still totally fully evil ones so y'know.
And the unfortunate caveat to the whole "Wait, we could just eat on this." is that by the time a Horror BECOMES a Horror, it has to feed on a very specific kind of fear. That's why the Drowning Horror has to be surrounded by rain and only shows up at that point. Because it represents fear of water but primarily the fear of floodwaters brought by rain. And remember, it's not just the Drowning Horror acting nice that got it there. It's acting nice and people still fearing it and worshipping it until it grew too large to feed off that in a stable way. It outgrew what its environment could sustain and now it wanders, too massive to ever sate itself again.
Yep, it did. Since the Drowning Horror/Lurker in the Rain needs to cause fear of water and floods to sustain itself, it perpetually surrounds itself in the rain to feed and attempt to satisfy its hunger. Of course, since it's a horror, it messed up and grew to big to satisfy its hunger, which is why its wandering around with a rain cloud, to try and scrounge up a good meal.
That's why the Hellish Light, (our new friend) is using its powers, since it requires the fear of a drought to feed. It's likely going to make a heat wave wash over the town after drying up all the water and to try and satisfy its hunger.

We need to prevent Ela and our other charges from getting cooked, no questions asked. Even if the Horror's effects will not be felt fully until 2 days have passed, I still don't want to take any chances with their safety, especially after we just made an alliance.
[X] The Truth Of Horrors (Know those who failed...)
Since knowing is half the battle and it'll be infinitely easier to get rid of the Hellish Light if we have a better idea of it than just 'Underground Horror feeding on fear of Droughts'. While we didn't give the Drowning Horror the boot, it was already wandering away on its own, and the Hellish Light looks like it's setting up shop, and not leaving anytime soon.

I'm actually afraid that doing so might give the Primal Fear something it needs from it's corpse. Probably paranoid, but I can only imagine what kind of useful things it can get from the corpse of an Horror.

i wonder what type of dragons there are in this setting. also does time have something to do with belief? something believed in for a long time like a tradition would be...more real when compared to something brand new but everyone believes it?
