EA looked at AoE2 and said "We want that money."

And you know what? I'll give them that money.

It appears that something is hindering me from pre-ordering it on Steam at the moment (tried two different payment methods, both complained that it couldn't initialise properly), so I may have to wait, but... yeah, this is looking a lot better than some other remasters I could mention.
Looks great is, at least, assured for the game itself. (that's from Petroglyph's site, not directly from EA)

Press X to Doubt.

Uh huh. This is EA we're talking about, where Jedi Fallen Order is the fluke in their streak of stupid shit.

Who is to say that it will be yet another Warcraft 3 Reforged: very high on the nostalgia and potential, yet so bungled badly at release that there are no words for it.

First of all, Fallen Order scored high and sold well. Secondly, Respawn made it.

The team is made of Westwood veterans and they've been extremely open in their subreddit. Not to say there isn't a chance of fucking up, but this may go in the way of AoE2 than Reforged.

Frankly Kelepcki's remastered sountracks alons is worth 20 bucks.

Honestly, not screwing up as badly as WC3R did isn't particularly hard - or expensive. This doesn't look like a WC3R or a HOMM3HD - which isn't to say that it can't be botched, but simply from the things they've consistently shown (and they've shown a lot more than WC3R had before its beta, which very conveniently was limited in focus in such a way that some of the things that made WC3R so flawed weren't apparent), yeah, I feel confident in saying that even with EA behind it this will hit a baseline that's above WC3R, and even above HOMM3HD.

It's so weird the only way to revive the RTS genre ..... is simply to remake old RTS games.

Now if only DoW1 can get one and we'll be set.

What? No, it doesn't. It's right there in the trailer that this is a dual release on Origin AND Steam. I checked yesterday, it's indeed available on Steam for pre-order.

Strange. On the Steam page, it says that playing the game requires a third-party account on EA's service.

Nice, but I was never really into the first Westwood games and will wait for a Steam sale event later this year. Now if they announce an RA2 remaster then I'd be fucking psyched.

Or Dark Crusade, that was a great game. Maybe even use the opportunity to make Soulstorm just as good.

I got Steam in front of me and you're right. Dark gray fine print under the system requirements says this on the matter:
YOU MUST LINK YOUR EA AND STEAM ACCOUNTS; EA WILL SHARE YOUR ACCOUNT ID, INDIVIDUAL GAME AND PLAY RECORDS WITH STEAM TO VALIDATE YOUR PURCHASE AND/OR REFUND REQUEST. ACCESS TO SOFTWARE CONTENT IS LIMITED TO ONE EA & ONE STEAM ACCOUNT & IS NON-TRANSFERABLE AFTER PURCHASE. YOU MUST BE 13+ TO REGISTER FOR AN EA ACCOUNT.

In other words, it's basically copy protection. Nothing unusual.

EA games on Steam list the game on Steam, but to actually start the game it will first boot up Origin in addition. That's how it handles Fallen Order for me at least.

It's kinda irritating.

Mmm. I'll hold off my hopes for this one, but honestly just the interface improvements are pretty good because they make the game (well, Tiberian Dawn moreso than Red Alert 1) a good deal more playable. Also Tiberian Dawn actually getting a skirmish mode, lol.

It has been clarified - by Jim Vessella - that this game will not require Origin. You need to log in to an EA account first time you start the game on Steam, but you do not need to install the Origin client.

Hopefully, if they don't botch this, this sells well so a TS/RA2 remaster can get off the ground.

I will certainly pay to play as man and his trusty dog again. And the trilogy of clearing infestations.

Good one step closer to a RA2 remaster.

Although it is sad that the best RTS game to come out in years will be a remake of a over 20 year old game.
