Warhammer Fantasy: Norsca United! (CK2)

Could someone remind me how we even ended up negotiating with the Wood Elves? It's been a while.
Basically the Emperor was somehow able to get the Wood Elves to work with him and now the Wood Elves in general seem to be interacting with humans more.

Skaelings wanted to help them out so that is why we sorta have relations with them.

They have been mostly helping out fighting the Beastmen I believe along with sharing their love of nature magic.

Yeah, but how did that come about? What was the start of it. Not what's going on this turn and the last with the Skaelings in their business with the Asrai.
It started in Turn 20:
Skaelings
Gustav is eager to make the most of his role as the first Jarl of Skaeland. He could send his forces south to aid the Wood Elves and hopefully gain their favor. He could also share his people's knowledge of weather magic. On a more mundane note, he could focus his attention on developing more industry in his lands, constructing more lumber yards and exporting valuable wood.
[X] Skaelings: Aide the Wood Elves

Wood Elves are a naturally distrusting bunch with little regard for outsiders. It takes them a while to warm up to the Skaelings. Still, your soldiers are able to pick up some interesting information. The Wood Elves have quietly spread beyond their forests, making friends and forging alliances in many Imperial villages that border their lands. Things are still very informal, but if the villages abide by the Wood Elves' rules and help them fight Beastmen and such, then the villages tend to have excellent harvests. Although, you've heard some rumors of magically gifted children disappearing from theses villages, but the villagers aren't complaining. For most of them, magical children are only a source of fear.

Additionally, the Wood Elves seem to be having more and more conflicts with rural skaven clans in addition to their normal Beastmen foes.

When the winter ends and it comes time for your people to be paid, the Elves give some goods that amount to a barely acceptable reward for your efforts. However, they also say you're welcome to assist them in the future. Perhaps, they will offer more payment next year?

Reward:
+100 Jotun
Presumably Gustav (Skaeling Jarl) heard about the forest-loving people down South and felt a kinship for them, or else is playing realpolitik by indirectly undermining Adolphus. IIRC that turn was after it was found out by the Nameless that Adolphus was giving tons of leeway to the Wood Elves, basically granting them de facto ownership of a whole bunch of Nordland townships. This was indicative of the Emperor trying to make allies out of the Wood Elves.

EDIT: :ninja:

Basically the Wood Elves have learned they can make more use out of humans thus have decided to interact with them more in exchange they help out against a common foe they are already always fighting.

Pretty sure the missing magical children though get turned into fertilizer for their forests since the villages don't want them, human magic users usually fall to Chaos so they see it as getting rid of future threats, and would be best for growing the forest due to their magical nature.

Even if the Wood Elves are doing stuff more openly now doesn't mean they are not still dicks that mostly care about themselves they just learned that humans helping them means less death for themselves.

"Boy children taken from the lands around the forest, destined to never grow old, joyfully serve their graceful Elven masters."

Wood Elves 7th edition.

I'm fairly certain the girls will become (Bretonnia-styled) Damsels.

An Incident at Mountain Crown
An Incident at Mountain Crown

Secret Khornate Roll: ???
Roll to Notice Events: 8

"What's wrong?" You ask Ashi.

Your wife is glaring down at a report like it called her a coward. "Our sailors found some ruined Chaos longboats and some drowned Khornates."

"Isn't that good news?"

"The ships were found only half a day's journey from our shore." Her lips curl into a grimace. "No one knows how the Chaos scum got so close." Ashi throws the report down in disgust and glares at the wall. Rather, she glares through the room's northern wall towards the wound at the top of the world. "They're doing something. I should be out there, fighting them."

"We need you here, helping with Hall's 'Counter Storm.'" With both you and Ashi helping, you were nearly ready to enact Hall's bold plan.

"You need the Purifier." Ashi grimaces again.

This is as close as she's come to complaining, but you know that this bothers her. The Purifier knows huge amounts about countering Dhar, but Ashi doesn't. From her perspective, your wife has been spending her days in endless incomprehensible discussions where she cannot even understand the words the Purifier speaks through Ashi's mouth. Ashi isn't stupid, but she's no mage. Her own talents are wasted cooped up here in Mountain Crown.

* * * * *

Days pass, and you grow ever closer to unleashing the Counter Storm.

Second Chance to Uncover Khornate Plan: 6

You get no more strange reports, but Ashi becomes no less convinced that the forces of Chaos are preparing for some secret attack. In fact, her worries spread to you, and you grow increasingly sure that you're missing something.

At last, the day comes for you to start the Counter Storm. Together, you, Ashi, Hall, and all your greatest mages gather to perform this incredibly complex ritual. You spend the whole ceremony braced for Chaos to interfere, so you're actually surprised when the spell goes off without a hitch.

You start to think that maybe you were just jumping at shadows. Then, a mage bursts into the ritual chamber bearing news from the walls of Mountain Crown.

Counter Storm Interferes with Khornate Roll: 100
Critical Roll: 99
AN:

The mage says, "Highness, the sentries say that Khornates are falling from the sky."

You rush to the walls, but, by the time you arrive, it's already over.

You've heard rumor of Chaos marauders using flying ships. Well, someone assembled a flying fleet to attack Mountain Crown. You guess that they flew over your defenses, hiding in the clouds to avoid detection. Perhaps bad weather or magical mishaps knocked a few from the sky near your shore, but the bulk arrived at Mountain Crown, ready to launch a surprise attack on the center of your magical power.

Unfortunately for the Chaos worshipers, their fleet arrived just as you enacted the Counter Storm. The sudden change in the winds of magic knocked every last ship from the sky. The lands beyond Mountain Crown's walls now bear the shattered wreckage of at least two dozen ships, every last one bears Khornate symbols.

Through some dark miracle, a fraction of the Khornates survived their fall and charged the Jotunhold. Your archers turned them all into pincushions.

Looking out at the sundered fleet, you marvel at your luck. Then your gaze falls upon one particular Khornate corpse. The Eye of the Allfather easily recognizes the body even at this distance. You let out a surprised little, "Oh."

"What?" Ashi asks.

"Do you see that corpse? The one closest to the walls?"

"The one with all the arrows in him?"

A nearby archer blurts out. "He wouldn't go down! We hit him over and over, but he wouldn't go down! When he finally fell, we... may have launched a few extra volleys into him... Just to make sure."

"That was a wise decision." You tell the guard. Then you say to Ashi, "That man was Wulfrik the Wanderer."

AN: Sorry, everyone. Life got in the way of the quest for a bit. I'm working through the backlog of questions, and then I'll post the results for the turn. I think you'll be pleased.

It may take me a day or two to post my answers and get the results up, so I wanted to post this little snippet to prove the quest wasn't dead.

The skull throne at the moment:

Khorne: *Laughing incoherently with tears coming down his face*

Nurgle (to Tzeentch): Is he ok? I think he needs to lie back and chill out for a little bit.

Tzeentch: I was attracted to the sudden massive change in his mood. I think I head him yelling some human's name. I think it was... Thorfin?

No problem mate, RL is RL. Hope you're entertained by the omakes we sprang up.

Holy fuck this Counter Storm.

Sorry, @ancusohm - the dice just wanted to really fuck with you.

"No, they don't notice a thing... nope, still don't notice a thing... you're going to be able to give the players an unpleasant shock, ayup...

JUST KIDDING! The thing the players were doing completely screws over your hopes and dreams after all!"

In the interest of feedback that you requested: I've long had the feeling that conversations was a weak spot in your writing. It's always rather simplistic and bland, lacking emotion and depth. And characters often come off as somewhat lacking personality or qualities in favor of being more simple.

At this point its pretty clear that the lose of Norsca is the biggest blow towards Chaos in millennia and that everything they do to try and take it back just makes the loss worse.
