Wanderlust (Worm Quest AU)

[X] Invisible Ties

Room demon is the perfect way to set off the quest. This, is what Worm is supposed about. You guys really want to start things sedately?

Michael as a character with Heart seems to make for a compelling narrative. It's going to force him to confront with socials and scenarios he isn't suited to and we'll see him stumble his way out of his shell.

I've said before that with Christie has the potential to be the strongest of all the protagonist with her meta-ability alone. Directly interfacing with her shard like this. Instead of leaving the conflict engine to chance, we get to steer our course.

We can choose to selectively pick the red options with deliberation and use the situation to maximise shard power output and scope - when the situation calls for it. If the voterbase gets greedy, then they deserve the bad ends. If we pick Christie we will have to pick our red routes with careful deliberation - or turn it into danger sense and avoid it outright.

I'll be completely honest, I'm voting for Christie solely because I like her as a character more than Michael and I don't think the main person I WOULD pick is going to win, so I'm putting my part towards my second favourite.

[X] Sculpted Greek God with a Heart of Gold

As I have been recently informed upon awakening I can also vote for at least one other option, so I shall at the very least put some of my wind behind the Steve Sails.

I am voting for a quest about what it takes to stick to your morals when there is every opportunity to be bought off. I am voting to play a character who has the GUTS to stay the course through adversity, and who will be able to navigate a Worm AU where every influential cape is a walking landline of weaponized trauma.

I'm voting for STEVE because the power of being honest, and earnest, and just generally a good person is the missing ingredient that could have saved canon Worm. Steve's power can manifest in any number of ways beyond just "Brute", so I think the people who have passed on him should give him a second look.

Right now it looks like you're allowed to vote for any number of options, so feel free to join me in voting for STEVE

I agree with _brightwing, seeing Michael's trials and how he overcomes them sounds interesting to me.

The wormhole closed shut with a violent conflagration of heat, radiation, and kinetic energy, rending the planet into a lifeless chunk of flaming rock in moments, planetary debris being flung into deep space by the detonation.
The Contessa died at the beginning of the quest, which is clearly a good sign.

[X] Invisible Ties
As for the choice, in my opinion Michael is perfect due to his learning speed. With its help, we will be able to pull off the craziest plans thanks to a variety of skills and analysis of the situation.
The heart is chosen from the fact that any manipulation of forces and mind provides ample opportunities for tricks that are combined with Michael's intelligence. Of course, "The Painter" would also be suitable here, but for my taste there is too much emphasis on emotions in it, which makes it a little unpredictable.

Naturally, I am still in favour of my own plan:

[X] Invisible Ties

The idea behind it is as I stated before, the power chosen in synergy with the character. Michael is someone who desires emotional connections, The Heart is a power meant to work in collaboration with other Parahumans or even just ordinary people, drawing strength from our bonds. Bonds which we will forge to fulfill our goal. Character Development is the name of the game here.

Sure, he's just a nerd right now. He's uncertain when it comes to social situations and weak when it comes to physical encounters… But these can be trained out of! No one has as high potential as Michael, he could become incredible, superhuman even if we put in the work. Maybe he befriends Steve and they hit the gym together? Maybe his new friendships help him become more socially adept, and he studies psychology to use his intellect to better understand people? He's undoubtedl flawed, but not fatally so. And no one has his capacity for change.

And though I'm aware the Room is a tall order for the risk-averse among you, I urge you to consider this. Both humans and Shards excel in conflict, whether it be through instinct and adrenaline, or offering a host access to greater power than they could ever wield in safety. This is a dangerous situation, but it is not insurmountable. It's an unparalleled opportunity for growth. And it's one we may never see again. All those other locations? Those are places we can go to, their plots are solidly anchored and uninvolved with us for now. The Room is not the same, it's a circumstance, an event and this may be our only chance to see it.

Seize the day, I say.

Worm, Worm is a struggle where the characters are so far from perfect. Look at Taylor for an example of antisocial protagonist, one that grew far above the expectations of even the author themselves. That is to say Michael can, and should I say Will have the opportunity to grow into quite the fearsome Cape given an ample avenue. That's where The Room comes in, an unknown scenario filled with a grave threat? Endless possibilities await but more than that- what better way to start a journey in the harsh world of Worm than by being thrown straight into the fire. Just imagine what we will unveil, and the power that Michael will uncover!

[X] Invisible Ties

Worm quests without asocial protagonists struggling to find friends through extremely high risk scenarios is like milk without cookies. They pair together perfectly. Throw this loser super genius into the octagon and see if he comes out a world champion.

EDIT: I have received a substantial bribe.
It's not clear to me if pre-consolidation votes count so I'm voting again.

Regarding Invisible Ties, given that The Heart "depended on other shards to function at its peak capacity" and that we're unlikely to meet other parahumans right at the start of the quest (since us waking up with powers is literally the first wave of distribution), it seems unlikely that we would be able to make the most of our power right away, which is extra bad for starting in a high danger scenario.
In addition to affecting other powers, its options also include: "granting powers to non-parahumans, emotional control, thought control" among other things. Given how circumstances can affect powers, I think we're assured to not get something that requires other shards to function in the first place, only at "peak capacity" as you've said.

However, even if it'd be better with other Parahumans, it'll still be useful enough to leverage. Add that powers function better under pressure, which is exactly the kind of position we're in to start with and… Well, I don't think it's going to be that detrimental.

I want to see how this would go for a smart character interact with the people in this area of the world that the author has formed.

I'd like to note here, that the Room never once mentions immediate danger. It isn't even really implied. Quite the opposite, all it says is that "the quest will be more difficult and dangerous." This implies long term difficulty, where immediate danger would simply be short term difficulty.

I concur. And now that we've had it confirmed in the Discord that there is "no room demon", our stance feels even stronger. I reckon few have as much long term potential to face the increased difficulty as Michael, especially with The Heart. Come what may, we can overcome it together.

Come on... don't you want to take this world by the nuts and twist? Right from the get go? The red option the traffic light isn't to stop, it's there to tell you "go harder".

I will offer three Tier-1 Zampano vote markers to anyone who changes their vote from Invisible Ties -> Golden God. Eligible voters:

_brightwing, thewhiteraven22, Fghubyygvb, LordRich505, GenericName, Ls Shadow.

I will offer two Tier-1 Zampano vote marker to anyone else who changes their vote to Golden God.

I will offer one Tier-1 Zampano vote marker to anyone else who changes their vote to Risk Taker.

Zampano vote markers can be used to compel me to vote for your preferred option in a future update. If there are multiple components of the vote, each marker determines one component. If we are voting by plan, I will just name-vote you instead. If two different people would like to use Zampano vote markers on the same vote, I will vote for the first person to tag me and invoke their vote marker EXCEPT:

1. If the second person exercises a higher tier vote marker
2. If the second person exercises a number of Zampano Vote Markers whose tier-values sum to three times the tier of the previously exercised vote marker.

In the event of an update in which I do not vote according to an exercised vote marker, that vote marker is retained by the holder until successfully exercised.

Zampano Vote Markers may not be used by sharkey_smt or agents working on behalf of sharkey_smt.

Edit: Deal is closed at 9:25 pacific on Sunday. Congrats to Michael!Voters!

Given that we're in the danger room no matter what it is probably good to have someone with useful survivability traits and stats like Christie, compared to Michael whose features seem to lean towards potential over immediate power.
Michael has great scaling but high scaling doesn't do a thing if we're dead.
In terms of potential, the Charges upgrading Christie's trait to become a more robust danger sense would also be pretty sweet.

This again, relies on the assumption of immediate danger. This has been confirmed false, the danger is long term for a more difficult quest.

Comparing potential with upgrades is redundant, since Michael would have to compare with similar upgrades of the same cost.
