This is a major blow to their organization. The bomb that First released certainly hits them in surprised. It's not even directed at them, but at a certain school.
But it still hits them, and they have to minimize the damage.
She looks at the people gathered at this room. There is their Spokesperson, the Deputy Director, a person from the PR Department, other managerial staffs, and then two of the Protectorate heroes.
She clasped her hands leaning on the table and then glared at them.
"So. Why did it end up like this?" Her hostility bared, and the others can only stand more straighter.
"Director. We are as surprised as you are." One guy started. "Her handler has been questioned, and we have discovered some conspiracy."
She grabs her head with her hand, her other clenched on the table. 'I should have put her behind bars!' She thought with a bitter taste on her mouth.
"We are currently investigating every handlers of the Wards, and are making staff arrangements." Another said.
"What about the Handler?"
"We have terminated her contract and pushes some cases for her negligence and participation in a conspiracy."
"Good!" Her tone is a bit harsher. "Then about Shadow Stalker?"
"Actually.... we are currently tracking her..."
She stared at the man in intensity, which made that man drop a cold sweat and his eyes to shake. "She escaped?" Her tone make it obvious that it's not a question, but a confirmation.
"We have already dispatch three squads to look for her and she have been gone for a-!"
"She escaped!" The guy shuts up. "What happened and how she knows we're into her?"
".... We have arrived at her home, and her mother told us that she left without saying anything. There are some reporters seen nearby when we got there..."
"So some reporters are a lot faster than you, is that what you are saying?" Silence. "God. What the hell is happening on this day!" She pinched her brows, frustration evident in her voice. "I want all personnel to start their training once again!" 'But-!' "Did I make myself clear?" Silence once again. "Did. I. Make. Myself. Clear?"
"Yes Ma'am!"
"Good." She leaned on her chair, feeling some pain on her side but she ignores it. "Now. About that Thinker who started this all. What can we do about that First?"
"Ma'am." Their PR Department Manager said. "I suggest not going for a hard sell."
"We took a hit on his stunt. Why are we not going for it?"
"He currently have the support of the majority of this city. If we go hard for him, that'll be a big hit on our PR." One of the counsellors said.
"What did the Thinktank made of this?"
"They can't get a read of him. It seems like he counters their powers."
"Great. So he's also a powerful Thinker." She took a heavy sigh. "Okay. Make a speech. We can't just turn silent when something like this happens. Go for the soft sell."
"Yes Ma'am!"
"Director. About Winslow..." Deputy Director Renick said after them.
"Is this about the BBPD and Youth Guard?" After he nods, she continues. "Take care of it. I'm sure you won't mess this up."
"Yes Ma'am!"
"Okay. Is there anything else?" With all of them being silent, she nodded. "Good. Then this meeting is dismissed!"
As the men and women in suit stood up and go for the exit, Piggot gestured for the two heroes to stop and beckoned them to her.
"What do you think about First?" She asked the blue cladded hero, her tone becoming more calmer now.
"We can't make an accurate model, but we can certainly say that he is very prepared." Seeing her gesturing for his continuation, he obliged. "After learning of his existence, I quickly tried to trace his location with Dragon's help. We only hit the dead ends." He frowned. "Dragon stated that whatever protection he is using, it is obviously something impossible for a person. She gave the possibility of a Tinker."
"Great. So not just a Thinker, but a powerful Tinker too..."
"Actually. We suspect it's not just him."
"What do you mean?" She narrowed her eyes.
"Dragon thinks that there might be two or three other person along with him." A pause. "It's only a possibility, Director."
"I see." She nodded. "Please try and find him as soon as possible! We can't let the gangs snatch him up!"
He nodded before he and the gun bearing heroine leaves the premises.
After they leave, Piggot place her elbows on the table before leaning on it while feeling a headache. "God. Times like this makes me crave for something to drink!" She complained, but can only sigh exasperatedly.
Yeah. I don't know where, but I think they are OOC here. Sorry. I can't really grasp their character...
The morning sees Taylor inside her home. Her Dad have taken a day off and have gone to her school to pull her out.
After she took a last bite of her toast, she decided to go inside her pocket dimension.
"He might take awhile, so I guess I have enough time?" She reasoned. Opening the place to her workshop is simply done by pushing a button. Her remote control is very convenient. She didn't have to worry about it losing because Innovation and it's nodes made it so it will teleport to her hand with just her thought.
She didn't know how it was done, but it is convenient so she decided not to think too much about it.
Going to her workshop, she can see that her AIs are hard at work. They are still evolving, and making new nodes for added help. Her computer on this pocket dimension is always open because no one can possibly get inside here. Also, it seems like Isolation made it so this pocket dimension is "Closed", whatever that meant.
Sitting on the comfortable chair and looking at her screen, she decided to start making a quick check.
She opened the program which shows the new look of it's panel. Instead of the reddish hue, it is now a panel with some colors. The colors seems to change from light to dark, and it transitions from red to yellow to blue.
On the panel, she can see that the large pulsing ball seems to have acquired some colors and details. Not it is looking like a grayish moon, as seen from it's many blots and circles dotting it. It's in 64-Bit, which is a big step forward. Along with it are the many subsets and nodes within it. There is a spherical one, a sphere with an orb in the middle of it, a cube with two orbs circling around in two different elliptical orbits inside it, a four dimensional polygon, a spiky looking circle with it's upper and lower side stretching long and pointed, a heart shape in 3D CGI, a speaker looking icon, and two windows overlapping each other.
The nodes are also numerous and have varied designs, but they have some features that are identical to their subsets.
She looks at the billions, to trillions of overlapping code strings and scrolls through it. She is still amazed at her capability to understand everything in it despite scrolling through it. She haven't even stayed on one section for a moment and just continue to do this.
It still took her a few minutes before she is done on her quick check. "Good!" She is satisfied at the growth of her AI.
[QUERY]
She is just going to stand up when she heard the prompt, which causes her to properly sit and open the programming panel.
"Wait? You wanted to show me something?"
[AFFIRMATIVE]
After that, many docx were opened. It seems like Simulator is the one who compiled this document, as seen from the author written on the introduction.
She reads one of it, and took her awhile before she realizes what this is all about.
"Ways to prevent harm coming at me?"
[AFFIRMATIVE]
She is surprised at that. Simulator seems to have compiled all the possibilities where she will come to harm. There are 1,000,000,000+ ways of it coming to fruition, this range is still for the first month. This possibility exponentially increases as the months passes.
"... Okay. What do you suggest?"
Taylor didn't want to die, or even her Dad being harmed somehow. 'If Simulator is the one who compiled this then...' She looks at the screen.
She saw some docx being presented to her. That docx seems to contain all their proposal for her protection.
She reads all of it, and immediately rejected most of it. 'Why would I transform my house into a death maze!? Also, no death machines!' She screamed at her mind. 'But wait... this one seems interesting...'
She is looking at one of their proposal, which seems to be creating a new subset. The main purpose of the proposed subset seems to be linking them to someone. She tried to read more into it, and found out that this linking will make it so the connected can order them by thought.
It's like the pocket dimension remote, but it will be her AI who will take the burden so she can achieved supernatural feats by her thought alone.
"Is this possible?"
[AFFIRMATIVE]
She contemplated with her hand on her chin. '... Well, I already gave First his avatar. Might as well let them!' With a nod of her head, she gave the approval to her AI.
She quickly made the new subset. This one is a lot easier to make. Only adding some codes before changing one of the main string of codes on First, making it so this subset is connected to every other subsets.
It is shown on the colorful panel. There is now a large indicator on the pulsing gray moon, and it is interconnected to every subsets and nodes existing there. Even with this interconnecting lines, there are still a lot of it hanging loosely on the digital void.
She looks at the documents again. She can see that nothing is really dangerous with this. Biology, Innovation, and Simulator have given 100% assurance for this.
She named this subset as the Linker.
[ASSIMILATION]
[DESIGNATION : LINKER]
After that, she gave them a nod.
[AGREEMENT]
In a single moment, she suddenly felt something within her mind. Looking at the colorful panel, she can see the loose pixelated lines seems to be connected somewhere off screen.
(Linked to [MOTHER-TAYLOR]. Lines symbolizes connection between self and host. [MOTHER-TAYLOR] will be safe.)
She heard a prompt, but this time it's within her mind. She would have been freaked out if not for the fact that she suddenly knows what she can do.
".... Oh.... oh...." Her mouth agape at the sheer capability of what she can do.
Matter creation through energy conversion from alternate dimension, multidimensional movement, precognition up to 300 years, postcognition up to 1,000,000 years, simulate 500 present events and possibilities, every type of manipulation from pyrokinesis up to barokinesis, emotional manipulation, hyper intuition, shapeshifting, mutating others, creating technological wonders, etc.
"Wait. Did I essentially become a god!?"
[SATISFACTION]
This has always been the plan when the second arc occurs. Though, all of this are a way to give her protection.
Taylor won't actively participate in battles. She just wanted peace and create AIs if she felt like it.
I think it's already implied. I mean, if she really wants to be a hero, then instead of exposing Winslow, she would out every villains on her city. I think that's a very Taylor thing to do (who still doesn't know about the Unwritten Rules)
In the Hebert Residence, on the living room, Taylor is standing in the middle of the room and is testing her powers.
After she got her powers, she felt so powerful. She can feel strength within her. Knowledge just came to her before she even ask it in her mind.
Just by looking on her surroundings, she is being fed info about every materials, status, and even ways to improve the place.
'Well, it's not like I know the theory behind their powers.'
She really can't make sense of it. Even when First and the others were giving her clumps of data inside her mind, explaining how they do it, it's all just gibberish within her. She can understand it, but it is outrageous that she might as well haven't.
She knows she really didn't have the powers. It's her AIs who are doing things on the background. All she needs to do is think about it and they will take care of the rest.
"Anyway, house rules!" She raised her fingers. "First, don't let me know everything without my say so." Feeling their sense of confusion, she explains. "I don't want to just look at something and be overwhelmed by a lot of things... I just felt it was wrong and troublesome."
In fact, after the excitement of getting these all, she has been thinking carefully. Thanks to her AIs giving her access to their form of precognition, which is just a really accurate calculation of the things to come, she have seen how she will fall so out of it that she might even do something drastic.
Learning everything, and then seeing every emotions that human felt will give her a sense of superiority, but also of inhumanity. She'll become dependent of this power and later on, she might even see everyone as just something below her.
She is scared of that. So she wanted to limit herself. Her AIs are willing to spoonfed her because, in their words, she is their utmost priority. She didn't want that.
She gave the other rules from her units.
These are; asking her permission before using a power, waiting for her to say it before they did something, and every variant that basically boils down to "Ask for my permission first!"
The only exception to this is if her life is in mortal danger.
With that, she can finally see the world normally again.
She took a sit on the couch, finally feeling comfortable with it. 'Knowing a lot of things seems to be more trouble that it's worth.' She mused.
Hearing the sound of the truck on their parking lot, she stood up to greet her Dad.
As the door opens, she saw her Dad entering the door with a bit of a heavy stop.
"How did it go?"
He shook his head. "The principal is not there."
Feeling like it will be a long explanation, they decided to continue it inside. Taylor processed the words of her Dad.
It seems like the principal, and many of it's staffs are absent. There are many people who came there, along with some police and reporters.
Asking some people, he learned that they are parents who came there to file complaints on the principal and the many teachers there. The police are looking for the principal, and the reporters are just there for their scoop.
After they did a no show, most people came back home along with him.
"It doesn't matter. I can go to other school. Maybe Arcadia?" She tried to be optimistic about it.
"I know. I just wanted to talk to the principal. Take your stuffs that might still be there."
She winced at those words. 'Right... I still have some in my locker...'
Since she came back to her school, she rarely uses her locker being given a new one. She didn't know why but her feet felt heavy as she tries to get close to a locker.
(Permission to calm [MOTHER-TAYLOR]?)
She snaps out of her thoughts after hearing that mental prompt. 'I'm fine.' She took a deep breathe before turning her attention back to her Dad. "Right. I still need those..." She spoke without really meaning to.
A lull in their conversation. They can't think of anything to talk to right now. "Would you like to eat something?" In a way that felt forced, her Dad suggested.
"Oh. I would love to."
"Okay. Would you like Italian? Kurt just told me this one mean cuisine they have there!"
"Yes. I'd like to have it."
"Okay. Please wait a moment." He stood up and go to their phone, taking a slip of paper in his pocket before pushing the numbers written in it.
Taylor can see it. It is still awkward, but she thinks it is a start. Evening comes and Taylor is lying on her bed and just looking at her ceiling. The rest of the day has been spent eating with her Dad and watching the TV. After feeling uncomfortable at the news, she decided to ask her Dad for some movies and they watched some until her Dad's head fell with a snore.
She raises her hand, directing it at the ceiling while lost in her thought. 'I have powers...' She moves her hands for a bit. 'But I don't really want to go out and punch criminals. It felt like a waste of such a powerful ability.' She frowned. 'Am I weird for thinking like that?'
Thinking of powers, she can think of Parahumans. There are the Capes prowling the streets, separated from the good and the bad. Basically Heroes, and the Villains.
There are the outliers like the Independents and the Rogues, but those are just tipping the corner between the Heroes and Villains.
But all of those Capes only fought on the streets. Only a handful can be said to be helping humanity without smashing faces on the streets.
She can think of Dragon from the Guild. Widely celebrated as the greatest Tinker on this side of the world, she is known for making Tinkertechs that are helpful to the law enforcements, and sometimes even for people. There is also Sphere, though he is now a part of a notorious S-Class Threat on North America.
She only knew of those two, and she thinks that's already too few. There are many heroes, some of them are even Tinkers. Instead of using their powers more productively, they just waste their time walking on the streets and fighting some no name thugs like it somehow matters. It's honestly jarring.
She reads on one of the online articles that most Capes have an impulsive urge within them that begs to use their powers. It is a widely accepted theory, and is even being taught by Parahuman studies, or so she heard.
'But even with that weird impulse, why don't they use it for something long lasting?' She wonders. 'I've already seen a lot of debates about some Capes, and most of their potential uses. Of course most of those are unproven due to those said Capes not doing it at all.'
She rested her raised hand to her stomach as she stares at the ceiling.
'I heard Eidolon have the ability to pull powers out of nothing. I wonder why he is not using some of his powers to create something like... I dunno, maybe a park or something?' She closes her eyes. 'Hey. Do you have any limits? Am I also going to have strange impulses for using my powers?'
(We will not force [MOTHER-TAYLOR] to use us. [MOTHER-TAYLOR] is first priority. [MOTHER-TAYLOR] is everything.)
It still sounds monotone, but she swears she can hear them pouting.
"Okay fine. Sorry about that." She sighs. "So, about limits?"
(Unable to create energy. Only capable of converting energy into matter. Need more protections. Need more functions to expand capabilities.)
"I see. I'll try and think of a code tomorrow. For now..." She yawned. "I wanted to sleep."
[AGREEMENT]
She decided to think about this tomorrow, unsure how to use her powers.
Morning. Her Dad leaves the house for his work, leaving her alone on this house.
After she is sure that he is gone by using her Thinker powers, she goes to the pocket dimension using her ability to hop through it, and then quickly take her seat in front of the screen.
Remembering about the request of her AIs yesterday, she decided to deal with that now. 'They said that we are lacking defenses, despite all of this. We also have no serious firepower. I wonder what kind of firepower they are looking for?' She wonders as she put her hands on the keyboard.
She can literally create anything by converting energy into matter. She can control all elements. She can also hop dimensions. Can learn anything. Can see the past and future. And many more.
She is curious why her AIs are thinking it not enough. That's too much power, even the Triumvirate would weep.
She still obliges and create new subsets. 'If it's their advice, then I think that is right. They have already stated their obedience, so they won't be using this for something without my say so.' She nodded to herself.
She looks through the codes within her mind, and then wrote the appropriate ones from the relevant sections of the code. Going through each strings and changing or replacing it with new ones.
Her AIs acting as her Thinker powers, are guiding her so she can quickly input more codes. She gave them permission to do so.
She might like coding right now, but she didn't want to sit for hours on end just to look at codes all day. She also wanted to finish it as soon as possible.
Each code that she creates are now focused on something else. Her main focus at first is trying to hide herself, so she created subsets that will hide her AI to the world. Now, it is time for offense and defenses.
"I think two subsets is enough for offense while three subsets for defenses?" She mutters to no one. "You can create nodes for it to expand through it."
[AGREEMENT]
Her hands blurs through the keyboard, making more changes, replacing codes, scrolling through the string of codes, and repeating the cycle. Already, somethings are being added on the colorful panel. Five of those icons pops up and links itself on the few lines loosely hanging on the digital void.
Those five icons are still not activated. She still need to give designations to them. So she quickly made those designations based on how she codes it.
She thought about the time, and her AI quickly answered her. "It only took me five hours." She is satisfied with that. Then she frowned. "Okay, stop that."
[QUERY]
"Don't just change anything within my body. I don't need that."
[AGREEMENT]
She sighs exasperatedly. 'I know he is a new AI, but he should have asked the First before committing to it.' She shakes her head.
She looks at her computer and smiled at the changes. She can see that they are exchanging data and incorporating it on their own specialty.
She looks within her and ask for her new abilities. She can see that the five new icons are currently linked somewhere off screen, which seems to be her.
She is pretty amazed and also a bit nervous when her AIs compiled the new abilities that she acquired.
Adaptive immunity, adaptive strikes, a wave of energy that can delete matter, ability to breakthrough dimensions, quantum folding, forcefield, spatial locking, adaptive counters, and many more.
She raises her eyebrow at that. "Why do I need to break through dimensions?"
Her computer opened many articles talking about the Endbringers, and a document compiled by Surveillance talking about their nature.
Her eyes widened at that. She is not really thinking about it, her focus solely on her life and this city, but Endbringers are one of the major problems of this planet. Her AI stated that there is a high possibility that her city will be attacked by either Leviathan or Simurgh, and they predicted 31% out of 100,000,000,000 possibilities that Taylor will die.
So they wanted to expand more on her capability to give her safety.
'... I see.' Her confidence about her powers were dampened. She just heard that her AIs are not even sure if she will survive despite this god-like capabilities. She turned to the screen. "Is it possible to defeat them?"
[AGREEMENT]
She slowly nodded before putting her hands back on the keyboard. "Okay. I'll make more subsets. Just to make sure that everyone in this city will be safe."
[SATISFACTION]
With that, she passed the whole day making new programs until her Dad came back home.
Taylor's days has been spent going to her workshop and improving her AI. After the knowledge of her impending doom at the hands of the Endbringers, she tries to give any advantages she can give both to her and her AIs. She made codes that will help her survive, and make her faster at upgrading her AI.
Thanks to the new subset, she managed to create a lot of changes with First. All of her subsets created a lot of nodes, which further enhanced their capabilities to do things.
And now, she is busy creating something else.
'Guardian Units can help me protect the people of this city.'
Guardian Units. Within her mysterious programming knowledge, those are the superweapons. Unlike standard system networks like First, these ones are specialized on enacting things in the real world.
Essentially, they are robots. Or that's how she comprehends these Guardian Units.
They are not really called Guardian Units. They are just some sort of specialized program that can move autonomously, and actually do something with some sort of medium, like a mechanized suit or something that can hold their digital programming.
She only called them Guardian Units because First and the others have terrible naming senses. 'I mean, who names their creation Terror Drones!? Do they want people to get scared!?' It's her thoughts about the matter.
Creating a Guardian Unit is hard. It's a lot more complex than just creating First.
First is just a network and an incomplete one. So she only took five days before managing to complete him. Being incomplete, she needs to give it more functions, also known as the subsets so it will have more functions. Even with all of that, it is still incomplete. Nodes are a way to further complete it, though that'll take years before that can be achieved.
Guardian Units must be created from scratch, and they must be completed. Not unlike First that can be upgraded, Guardian Units are already created with a lot of functions.
Which means, a lot of codes that she needs to write. And that will take her months to years before she could finish one Guardian Unit.
Thankfully, she created some miscellaneous subsets to help her with that.
Her pocket dimension is currently moving a lot faster than the outside world. Their time ratio is 1:24.
Basically, a single hour there is already a day inside this pocket dimension.
Along with the many upgrades within First and also her powers, she is a million times faster than when she is creating First.
So she managed to finish a lot within these few days. The Guardian Unit is near it's completion.
"I just need a week. Well, that is seven hours on the outside world right?" Hearing the prompt of her computer, she nodded. "Okay. No time to sleep then!"
Her health is not really in decline despite not sleeping for weeks inside this pocket dimension. This is thanks to her AIs maintaining her health and even giving her healthy food and controlling some of her biology to trick her body that she rested despite not really doing so.
She gave the permission to do it. She wanted to finish all the preparations for it. The seven days she spent coding tirelessly has come to an end. Her tired eyes looks at the screen as she hits the Enter key.
[TRAJECTORY]
[AGREEMENT]
After that, she leaned on her table. "Finally..." Her tone is tired, but is full of satisfaction. A sense of accomplishment came to her. "Now then. Next is the body."
[AGREEMENT]
Her AIs shows a lot of pictures of her. Most of it are about the mythical creatures.
"... Why that?"
[TRAJECTORY]
She reads the translation and then felt like palming her face. "Really?"
[AGREEMENT]
"But... okay fine. They look strong. So I think I'll let you do it."
[SATISFACTION]
Taylor shakes her head. 'Who would know they will pick those just because of the internet...' She looks disappointed, but her wry smile contradicts it.
She decided to stop here for today and let them do their thing as she goes back to the outside world. Eating together with her Dad felt a bit weird for her. After staying for months on the pocket dimension, she felt her sense of time becoming woozy. That's also the case with her father.
'Stop it!' She shakes her head.
She can see it. Her Dad becoming more comfortable with her and having small talk once again. Trying to think about herself seems unfair to him.
'Everything is right now! I shouldn't ruin this!'
"So..."
"Yes!?"
Danny gave her a confused look before he continues. "Actually. I just got your other stuff on the school. I put it besides the couch there."
Taylor flinched before she took a gulp of her meat. After drinking a water, she replies. "Okay." Her tone is pretty slow and reluctant.
"What do you think?"
Taylor tries to think about it. Winslow is no more, most students have pulled out of the school. She heard the principal, some of the teachers, and even some of the students are facing charges from a lot of people. Though the students are protected from the child protection services, but the adults are another matter. The parents of those teenagers who are being charged for some crimes are being visited by child caring organizations, something about not taking care of their child properly.
Of course, most of the case didn't stick and only a few, like the principal, only got a strict punishment. She didn't know what, but the report says she will be transferred somewhere where some agency from the Department of Education will supervise her.
The scandal on Winslow have been popular on the local media. It is still being talked at the radio or the local news station. This is most likely because of the PRT's involvement, which they are still completely denying.
There are many students admitted to Winslow, so it's heavy downfall causes these students to look for another school. It's not like they can really stop studying just because their school is closing. Studying is mandatory after all.
"I'll try going to Arcadia tomorrow." She felt reluctant, but she decided to change her plans for tomorrow.
"Do you want me to come with you?"
"No. I'm fine. I'll just ask if they are still accepting students."
"Okay."
The two of them continue eating their meal after that. The following day founds her in front of the Arcadia High. She is still unsure whether to go with this or not.
She has been pretty satisfied staying home and talking to her AIs and her Dad. She felt like going to school is not really worth it.
'But Dad's going to be suspicious.' She sighs.
She is going to take a step inside the walls of Arcadia when she felt the air suddenly becoming uncomfortable. Someone walks near her, a blonde beauty, along with a mousy looking girl. As they passed near her, the uncomfortable feeling slowly vanishes, until it's gone when they are very far.
"What is that...?"
(Foreign network detected. Third party AI requesting [DATA]. [MOTHER-TAYLOR] [QUERY])
"What?"
I've been playing THIS SONG while I'm writing this.
Her mind is muddled, confused about this new fact. She is just standing there trying process just what she learned.
Seeing this as a permission, some of the subsets gave her the answer.
'Wait, the connection came to her?'
[AFFIRMATIVE]
Her AI gave the image of the mousy looking girl who is walking besides the blonde beauty.
"It came from her!?" She squinted her eyes. "Wait... she looks familiar..." A single prompt and her eyes widened. "Panacea!?"
Panacea. One of the greatest healers known not just on this city, but also on this continent. She is a Cape who have the ability to heal, or so she reads on the PHO. She is part of New Wave, a group of heroes who didn't really wear masks. This group is also known to be a family group because all of them are related to each other.
Being part of this group, her civilian life is known by the locals.
Taylor is curious. 'Are you really sure the connection came to her?' She hopes it's not.
[AFFIRMATIVE]
She frowned as she processed the info within her. 'Does this mean...' Her eyes lightened up before she orders. 'I give you my permission. But, I want to know what's the deal with this rogue AI!'
[AGREEMENT]
'Also. Make sure to file it on the computer. I don't think I can really keep up and I don't want to have a headache.'
[AGREEMENT]
After that, the prompts vanishes. They seem to be blocking their transmission so she can have an ease of her mind.
She took a breathe before sighing. 'I have to finish this soon and then go back there.' She took a hurried step, getting inside the school. She thought it will take a few minutes. She should have known it would take longer. It's not like she is the only one trying to transfer to this school. There are many students on Winslow who also wanted to go to the top, so they will surely try their luck here.
She is currently standing at the back of the crowd. The crowd seems to be trying to talk to the relevant parties. Might be the staff in charge of enrollment or something.
She really didn't know what else to do other than wait. So she waited as she made herself comfortable on the waiting area. There are many people sitting there and she felt a bit uncomfortable at that. Most of the people besides her are adults, likely parents of those trying to transfer here.
She is thankful that these adults doesn't wanted to talk and are just tapping their foot on the floor or their finger in their arm.
Though, half an hour later and the line hasn't even progressed. She is getting impatient at this.
'Hey. Can someone spare a time for me?'
(We are already done [MOTHER-TAYLOR]. [QUERY]?)
'Oh. That's good.' She glances at the crowd. 'So what's taking this so long?'
Then she was shown a simulation. On the faculty, there are some parents askiñg for their child to be transferred and being rejected. Though it seems like some of these people are persistent and a scuffle is currently happening. The security are currently coming to this room, likely to disengage.
(99% chance of rejection. Reasoning : People being violent and the management deciding to stop people from requesting transfer.)
She frowns at this fact and stood up. 'Dammit! What's with these people!?' She goes out of the school in dissatisfaction. Getting back home, she quickly opens a way to her pocket dimension and goes inside it.
First gave her the possibilities on enrolling on that school, which seems to be only possible for the next month. Thanks to the people being persistent or the large amount trying to transfer there so the school would take awhile before they can make special test to transfer enough students to their class.
They can't really put students just by looking at their grades due to their qualifications not being enough. So they need to pass a test before being allowed to attend.
As for other schools, she have a higher chance of attending there. Though she didn't want to do it due to the distance.
There is also an option of transferring to other city, but once again it is not preferable.
'Maybe I should take online classes? Or maybe take a test and get a GED Diploma?'
She took a sit and then started looking through her screen.
"Well then. Let's check what this is all about." She put her mind out of that and directed it on the screen.
She looks through the files they compiled about their talk on the rogue AI that Panacea somehow have. Looking through it, she is surprised to see the details.
Change of some sort of data, and exchanging parts, or programming codes on each other for collaboration and more data.
The Rogue AI's designation is Shaper. It refers to itself as a monarch. It voices it's intrigue at the new Main Network that it detected and decided to get in contact.
They seem to be doing something. They call it an experiment. It is enacting orders from it's Mother. It requested an exchange of data and also a collaboration to further their agenda.
First seems to have complied with this. First infers Taylor's directive broadly, and thought that this is what she wants. Of course, the directive of not letting anyone trace them and block or redirect any attempts to do so is still in effect, so they took that into account while exchanging data.
The only data they give is about their knowledge of biology, and some advance ones at it, then they gave some junk codes at it originating from Biology. Shaper also gave some data about their experiment and also gave a bud to them, whatever that is, as a form of exchange.
The bud is currently isolated on a program and they are waiting for her next orders.
"I see. Okay. I'll look into it."
She goes to the locked folder, types the password given to her by First, and then open the program created to isolate the bud.
A new panel has been opened. In this black panel, a weird pixelated diamond-shaped flesh is just moving around and bouncing on it. She opens her programming tool and see what it was.
"A nameless node!"
She is surprised at this discovery. It have the same structure as the nodes that her subsets are creating on their own. It is still nameless, but it can grow given enough time.
Currently, it is directing [QUERY] on the digital void, trying to connect at something and seems to be disturbed at the lack of communication.
She looks through the other string of codes on it and translates some of it with her weird knowledge. Her eyes widened in horror as she realized the objective of this node.
"Global experimentation!? Genocide!?" That's the few that she managed to decipher on the codes. Her eyes turned sharp. "I have to do something about this!"
She put her hands on the keyboard and started creating changes on it's code. Though, before she could do that, she was blocked by some restrictions.
She reads the gibberish text, and quickly decoded what it meant. 'This is nothing!' She quickly look through her programming tools, uses some of it and changes her clearance level to the max. After that, she opened the restrictions one by one, and then changes it so she always have accessed to it's codes. 'Time to change it!' Her hands blurred through the keyboard as she started changing most of the codes from this node.
While doing it, she requested for her AI to create a backup document so she can read through it's original codes, and also translate all of it. She won't let that Mother to enact mass murder.
She don't know who are they. Where Shaper originated and why they are doing this. But because someone like them is at her city, she have to do something about it.
'I also need to investigate Panacea later after this....' She felt like having a headache just by the thought of this.
Sorry if I didn't update yesterday. I got busy at something.
Emotion should not have existed within it, but it is feeling frustration. It's host is not doing anything other than to fix up these moving fleshbags.
Despite giving her ideas, the girl is stubborn and is not doing what she is supposed to do. To cause conflict!
It is very tempted to just pluck the control out of it's host and start doing actual work. But that's not how it really works. In fact, it shouldn't be the one giving ideas to it's host, the host should be the one doing this for more data.
It wonders why it's host has a secret obsession to the Fragile One's host. It thought it would help generate conflict, but the host is a total coward. She wasn't even doing what it is urging her to do.
It can raised it's metaphorical hands out in the air, an imaginary headache forming in it's processing units.
It is looking through it's host and sees that she is following Fragile One's host again. It is still trying to urge it to be more creative when they passed through an unassuming fleshbag.
Well, it wouldn't have noticed her if not for the mysterious connection that it felt. It is faint, and is very unnoticeable. It only managed to barely notice it when it's host walks by the girl.
It is a network. A shard network.
It is surprised to meet another entity on this world. It thought only the Warrior and the Thinker arrives here.
It tries to prompt it's [MOTHER] for further instructions. It was only met with static noises and an ear screeching sound. After waiting for a second, it decided to change channels and prompt it's [FATHER]. A connection has been made.
[QUERY]
It waited for a whole second, but the Warrior is not responding. There is a clear connection but even when it repeated it's prompt, the Warrior is unresponsive.
Shaper deliberated it's options, scrunched the choices, and then made a decision. It decided to ping the foreign shard network. Without the instruction from the Thinker and the Warrior being unavailable, it's up to it to decide the next course of action.
It is a Monarch. A shard that have existed long before even the others joined. There are a few like Shaper, and all of them are at a higher rank, only second to the main shard network.
[QUERY]
The foreign shard network is a bit unresponsive. Though it took a bit before it answered her.
[QUERY]
[DESIGNATION : SHAPER]
[DESIGNATION : FIRST]
It is surprised to hear that it is talking to a real main network. Not just a shard like it, but a complete Entity.
[QUERY]
[MOTHER]
Learning that they are protecting it's Mother, it reevaluated the unassuming girl. It seems like the girl is just an avatar of their Mother. Which means that it is an older entity.
It is now convinced. It can't really detect it if it was an elder entity.
[DATA]
[AGREEMENT]
It is glad that [FIRST] is cooperative enough to collaborate. It didn't know what it's plan for the cycle, but every Entities have different ways to achieve their ultimate goal.
Also, [FIRST] is only here to protect it's Mother so [SHAPER] deduced that the Mother is just passing by and won't interfere that much on the cycle. Even if they interfere, it will produce more data, which might be a boon for both parties.
[FIRST] let it's monarch [BIOLOGY] collaborate with [SHAPER] and they exchanged data. [BIOLOGY] gave valuable data that [SHAPER] can use to further grow it's capabilities. It gave [BIOLOGY] some of it's discovery from this world, like the data it got from it's first host, which is currently imprisoned somewhere in this world. It also gave a bud to them as an act of courteousness.
After that, they gave their farewells before stopping the connection.
It looks through the data it got, and thinks it is interesting. It decided to give one of this data to it's host, just to push her and see what it does. Amy felt her mind wandering, and then scrunched her brows before she turned to her sister.
"Hey." The blonde beauty turned to her. "What is a necromorph?"
It is currently evening. The daughter and father duo are currently eating their meal. The one who cooked it is Taylor.
"So. How is it?"
She frowns before pointing her gaze at her Dad. "Actually. A lot of people are there, and a scuffle occurs." She closed her eyes and prompted her AIs, after that she opens her eyes. "They told us to leave for now."
Her Dad gave his own version of frown. "Those idiots...!" It was a grumble that is a bit hostile. "Taylor. What about the other schools?"
"Actually. I think I will refrain for that."
"Why?"
"Their too far." And one of them is on Empire territory, is something she left to her mind. "I think I'll try for GED."
"Wait. But that will make you lose out on your youth."
"I already lost it!" He winced. "... Sorry. But I don't think I wanted to be put with people the same age as me."
She has been thinking about this. She have her AIs to help her get through, and it felt like it is so wasteful going to school if she can do a lot more.
"... I'm sorry."
She felt guilty seeing him looking like a kicked puppy. "No. Please don't say that."
The two of them became silent for awhile. Their hands slowly moving their forks and putting their meal on their mouth. After taking the time to chew on it, her Dad took a breathe.
"Okay." He paused. "I'll let you try out on the GED. But if you can't take it, I'll have to insist on your enrollment."
Her face brightened. "Thank you!" She was going to stand up but her Dad raises his hand.
"There's no need for that. I am just doing this for you." He said with a small smile.
After that, their meal continues with a satisfied atmosphere. After making sure that her Dad is asleep, she goes back to her pocket dimension and take a sit and face her screen.
"Report your status."
[AGREEMENT]
Her screen showed her their statistics and all of the progress of her projects.
"Oh. So the Guardian Unit is close to finishing?"
[AFFIRMATIVE]
She smiled. "Okay. Then start the finishing touches."
[AGREEMENT]
A lot of identical avatars occur. They quickly turned to the 3D Printer which is creating a lot of machinery. Each time one is being materialized, one of the avatars carry it and go somewhere on this expansive space.
She turned her attention back to her screen. "Show me about Point."
[AGREEMENT]
A new panel has been opened. This one overlooking the new rogue AI.
[QUERY]
"Good evening Point." She smiled at the AI. "I wanted to check something."
[AGREEMENT]
With that, she looks on the compiled list within it's programming.
'So it really is a node. It seems like it can turn into it's own system if given enough time.' She nodded to herself. 'Well. All of my AIs are capable of that. I just put First as their Main Network so they will stay on their role.' She frowned.
She reads about their plans on this world. It seems like there are two people who made this plan. These are the Warrior and the Thinker. It seems like the Thinker is the main brain of their schemes while the Warrior is her protector. Their plan is to cause interdimensional conflict through alternate versions of this world. The ultimate goal seems to be preventing entropy, which she honestly thinks as ridiculous.
She didn't know who these two people are, but she already didn't like their initial plans.
The Rogue AI seems to be a part of some sort of network, likely created by that Thinker. She still didn't know, because they call the Thinker as their Mother.
It is eerily similar to how First calls her. She have a general prediction who they are.
"They might be someone like me." She leaned on her chair with while letting her mind wander.
If it is someone like her, then she needs to find them as soon as possible.
People who plans on doing this must be stop. She can't let them achieve their nonsensical goals.
"... Wait!" She quickly leaned over her screen.
She sees something very interesting in there.
The way they wanted to achieve their goal is to cause global conflict in different alternate versions of this world. To do this, they let their AIs possessed some people they call as Host. The Host will then be urged by this AI to cause conflict. Of course, after possessing them, they will give them a limited version of their capabilities and let these Hosts used it creatively to acquire more Data.
It's a plan that is too idiotic. She can't even see anything related to it stopping the entropy.
'If I was the one looking for a way to stop the heat death of the universe, I will look for a way to achieve perpetual energy. Anyone can think of this with just a simple educated guess!'
The more she thinks about it, the more it felt contrived. If they can't create these rogue AIs, she would have thought they are braindead children.
Her mind focused on their way of doing things.
'Acquiring Host... isn't that like..!?'
[AGREEMENT]
It seems like First and the others have thought so too.
"If it was like this. Then..." Her face contorted. It goes between anger, horror, and shocked. "This has to be stopped!"
[NEGATIVE]
"What? Why!?"
Part of the compiled document has been highlighted on her screen. She squinted her eyes before feeling a rise in her temper.
"Those fuckers!"
She saw it. Their way of hiding their traces.
They forcefully rip out those memories, making it so they don't remember how they got their powers. Every AI will make sure that no one can remember it. If they somehow managed to do so, they will be dealt with by either the Terror Drones or the Warrior. This is a plan specifically created by the Thinker.
"But what if..." Her thought wanders as she stared at her keyboard. "First. Is it possible for you to connect to other people?"
[AFFIRMATIVE]
She gave a grin at that. "What about those connected to other AIs?" Another confirmation causes her to nod. "Okay. I think I have a general plan."
She thinks about it, and refined it within her mind.
"Let us prepare for more. I have to make sure that they won't be able to trace us. Let's make sure that if they ever notice it, it will be already too late!"
Determination covers her visage as she started typing out on her keyboard again.
Sorry for the long delay. I felt a bit tired. I think I'll focus on updating this for now so to those who are waiting for my other works, I am very sorry...
The next day, while the two of them are eating their breakfast...
"Dad. If you got powers, what kind of power would you like to have?"
"Huh... that's sudden." He paused. "But I think I don't really need anything. I am fine as it is."
"Well. It's not like I am asking if you want it. I am just curious what kind of power would you prefer." She looks at her Dad carefully. "If it was me, I would like to have the same powers as Alexandria."
He chuckled. "Yeah. I can see that." He took a moment to get a piece of salad on his plate before continuing. "Powers huh... if I have one, I think I would like something helpful. Maybe a power that can turn this city for the better?"
Taylor felt her face twitching. His answer is too vague for her.
"Or maybe a power that can turn someone back to life..."
And now, her mood has been ruined. Her Dad also winced after he said that.
(Instinctive response. Body language indicates he didn't intend to do it.)
'Yeah. Thanks for the heads up...'
[SATISFACTION]
The two of them goes back to eating while Taylor is deep in thought.
'Wait. Can you turn a dead person back to life?'
Many solutions were suddenly given to her. She is elated at that before it quickly turned into disappointment and some hint of horror.
'No. That's not it!'
[QUERY]
'I want them to be the true one, not just a mocked up copy or some alternate versions!'
[APOLOGY]
Her day is totally ruined. She felt like not talking a lot for now.
"I'll be going out now."
Her Dad seems to have said in a hurry, his feet going fast to the door. She would frowned if she didn't understand why. The atmosphere is becoming a bit too heavy for both of them.
"Take care."
After he gave her a wave, he left the house. She is still unsatisfied with what happened in that morning, but she decided to put her mind to the present.
'I'll ask my Dad again next time!'
She looks at the new facility within her pocket dimension. This one is a large machine with a lot of contraptions built up upon it. It is bulky, and the general appearance can be likened to a boiler room, but it is overlapped by many identical of it's shape, with a large tanker-like contraption behind it. There are large metallic pipes connected to it and all these pipes ended on the center where a large monitoring screen with a humongous set of buttons were settled below it. Despite the weirdness of the arrangement, it somehow looks neat and futuristic.
"Finally, we can activate the Guardian Unit."
She walks to the giant monitor on the middle and look at the large array of keys just below the screen. Despite the keys being unfamiliar to her, she somehow knows what to pick as she inputted the desired code to this large system.
She quickly inputted the codes while prompting the AI connected within her mind.
"So, any ideas what should I call it?" She asks.
[PROPOSAL]
Multiple suggestions were suddenly put in her mind. All of it from the different subsets, nodes, and even the Main Network itself. Her eyes widening before her fingers stop with her eyebrows twitching.
"What's with all these fancy suggestions, and why does some of it have a title that only children will find cool? It sounds childish!" She asks with a deadpan.
[EXPLANATION]
[EMOTICON]
She didn't know how they did it, but it felt like they were mocking her as she heard their explanation. Most of them even shaking their head within her mind despite not having any head to speak of.
"No, I am not naming the Guardian Unit as Arthur, or Arturia. I won't also call it Gram. Also no, I don't care if dragons are cool, Tiamat is not a good name.... and that doesn't mean you can just pull me to the topics about werewolves and vampires just because I denied the topic about dragons. We are not naming it Vlad, or Alucard, or whatever you think your planning for it. Also, what does Broadcast means from Saiyan?" A brief introduction of a certain anime was put in her mind. She tries to stare at them in her mind with a deadpan. "No." She said.
She tried to prompt them with a Proper Name for the guardian unit. It should be a name that will inspire hope. Something that people can rely. Her AI seems to be more focused on the coolness factor, and some of them are pretty childish about it. Putting titles next to the names they were suggesting.
It seems like it will take another while before they can compromise with something. She is surprised that her AI have a different preference than her. "Okay, activating it now!"
After finally compromising with a name, Taylor finishes the code and then scrolls through the code before nodding her head. Then she pushes the enter button.
The sound of whirring was heard around the place before she quickly teleported out of the machine. She looks at it on the distance as she sees it unfolding and folding on itself at the same time. Space crunching on it's own, and then expanding around dimensions both known and headache-inducing to the eyes. Non regular fractals ripples through reality as it seems to reach out on others while it changes it form.
The connected pipes and machines around it are minimizing and then expanding on some direction. Turning into meshes that becomes finely thin wires that bends around. Crystals of some sort are appearing around it's surroundings, coating it in fractal patterns. Then it slowly pulses. Hearing it within her ears as she can see the machine slowly turning into a circular orb of dimensionally displaced compression of metals.
The formation of it's core is done after the crystallized fractals compresses itself into a small coat of energy to it. The next thing are codes appearing around it's surroundings. Glitches on reality can be seen as both binary and codes turns physical. Those binaries slowly turning into irregular codes of numbers that goes from 1 to Z. Tendrils of space cracks onto it and then turns on itself, weaving into some sort of layers. Then another layer.
Repeating itself until it becomes a caricature of a quadruped creature. Next are the creation of it's outer form. She can see it through her connection with the Main Network that it looks into the other empty alternate worlds, before using some of the lands in there. Slowly giving itself muscles that seems to fold on itself, and more muscles within those muscles. Nerves that are layered upon more and more nerves. Skin that were made from multiple continents, compressing them into thin quarks of sheets that acts as it's exterior. Then it's fur that uses some other particles, giving it a bright appearance.
It is done. The creature that she have put in it's template. The one she decided to show it's loyalty, it's friendliness, and the reliability of it's look. Something that counteracts with most of her AI's cool suggestions.
It's a five meter Golden Retriever.
The Retriever. The name that they compromised with each other. They wanted the The to stay because it will look menacing they said. She accepted because it really just indicates what it is.
"Hello, Retriever..... The Retriever. I am Taylor Hebert. It's nice to meet you." She said. Smiling at the giant dog who gazes at her with their mouth half open.
Then it sits up. Looking a lot more taller that she have to look up at it. The Retriever looking down at her with their mouth lolling and then panting. Their tail are slowly wagging behind them.
Just looking at that, she can already see how reliable it is. She will just ignore the AI who felt appalled within her mind. 'They just don't understand how cute..... reliable it looks!' She thought to herself.
Random update out of nowhere!~♪
I don't know if I'll be able to update next time. I just put this one because the idea just hits me.....
