By splitting your forces in to two, and making the foe face a wave of Barnin on one side and smaller groups of elites on two others, backs against the castle wall, they will have nowhere to go but down. This makes best use of your numerical advantage, but will undoubtedly take more time.

The Siege of Castle Ethos: Part 2
The choice of plan is obvious: Encirclement. Your knights break in to two separate groups and rush forward to either side of the human force. The group of soldiers yells and partially turns to face your troops, having to rapidly adapt to this new situation. With your appearance, their odds have notably worsened. Rapidly assembling in to a battle line less than ten meters away from the flanks of the foe, you await with anticipation for the primary force to crash into the enemy's front. The ones you're looking at dare not break formation, lest they leave their allies without a reserve and themselves vulnerable to being rolled up by the Barnin-Tra. Before they can make that mistake, your ally's force arrives, mere seconds after your own. In a great tidal wave of flesh and metal, the two fronts meet, the Royal Guardian being clearly front and center. Still, even they cannot fight off an entire army.

Your forces break into action themselves when the first cry of pain enters the air from a wounded or dying human. Galloping forward the last, short distance, they leap upon their prey with ferocity and intent. Blood flies immediately as their swords slash down upon the ready foe, breaking past guards and slipping through attempted parries to gut the resisting humans. The enemy is outclassed, and even if they could devote their entire attention towards you, they would still be in for a hard time. As it stands, this is a slaughter.

It is, however, one that is something of a slog. Although quick maneuvering and a perfectly coordinated attack keeps the enemy off balance, their line remains formed up, if a bit thinner than before. You don't outclass the enemy by that much on an individual basis, and they are willing to fight to almost the very last soldier. They cut down many a Barnin in retaliatory strikes, blades of various weapons penetrating through the gaps in the natural carapace you possess if not simply smashing past it outright while the Tra at the front get cut down in vast quantities by the member of the Guard. They are textbook, elegant in their heavy armor but with no less strength for their grace. While they can only do so much, this level of casualties is certainly more than a little worrying.

You nod at the two Yun next to you, and change course. Forging a path through the mass of humanity is tricky, but far from impossible. You use your blade to keep the humans before you on the defense, while using your razor-sharp legs to slice through the armor and flesh of the ones directly in your way. After a handful fall to your wrath, the rest stay out of your way, while your two soldiers continue to guard your flanks desperately from those who would intervene.

A shouted warning alerts the Guardian just in time, and the warrior turns after removing her axe from the torso of another fallen Barnin. The din of battle fades slightly as you close in, but you make sure to stay out of easy reach. It wouldn't do to be cut to shreds. Your opponent snorts derisively before speaking.

"You think you have a ghost of a chance against a member of the Royal Guard? Bug, I'll crush you and all your skittering underlings for what you've done." She seems confident enough, but her bravado shows that she's more scared then she'd like to admit. Time to test that theory.

You take another step forward as the battle momentarily slows for the pair of you. "I have many allies, you are but one human. I am sorry to say that your time is over. Have at you!" In a burst of motion, you and your two guards leap forth and bring your swords down upon her. A swift slice through the air keeps you away, but she can't be everywhere. Four Barnin-Tra charge at her back, and she continues her movement, swinging around to cut through two and deflect the arms of the other two with a gauntlet. Continuing to turn back around, she leans out of the way of your sword and that of one of your guards while slicing through the blade and skull of the other. The battle is now raging once again, but this is temporary. Then Elite Captain [Primary] comes in then, and brings his own weapon down. With the weight and speed behind it, the human can only lock blades, smashing the hefty sword in to the ground with her own axe. But this is your own chance. Taking another step forward before she can do anything, you lift up your frontal pair of legs and jab downwards at the back of her knees, vulnerable spots in the hefty armor. You manage to cut her lower legs clean off, and lever the flexible armor plates off to separate her from her limbs fully. Walking forward so that you stand over her, you put your sword to the back of her neck alongside your fellow as she lies down in the dirt.

You speak as one. "Yield."

These soft-spoken words cut through the battlefield as the humans cry in alarm when they realize what you've done. Although costly, your joint attack brought her down in the span of a few seconds. There was only so fast she could rotate. Almost immediately, the survivors throw down their weapons and surrender, the presence of the Guardswoman being the only thing that kept them from breaking. Out of 100 or so humans, only about 20 survive. Their own captain seems to have been killed by one of your Yun. In return, you have suffered about 15 casualties, and the infantry somewhere between 70 and 80. As Tra field healers tend to the survivors, the Tyrant [Primary] comes over to congratulate his two captains on a job well done. You have a few options here, and you believe you can influence your commander one of three ways.

[] Stay Put. Continue to stand guard here as ordered. If nothing else, you'll get some looting done, and you may find a way to open that mysterious box.

[] Fall Back and Report In. This mysterious box looks very important, and changes the situation. It would be best to take it back to a safe location, as the foe will probably stay away from this exit for now, and thus your objective is achieved.

[] Advance. You could enter the Castle and try to further aid your forces by striking from a probably unexpected location. Of course, it would only be you and yours doing this. The Junior Tyrant is willing to let you go, but isn't willing to commit his other forces to this (highly dangerous) mission.

So, what next for you, Guardslayer?

Right now, we need to inform our commanders that we have taken over the front. We don't have telephones people, medieval times (I guess) We need to get back and tell our superiors about this. Not only that, but it would be best if sent a small detachment back, while our main force makes sure that the opposition does not attack us or flee while we are gone. If they flee, they might get reinforcements, and who knows how many that may be.

The Siege of Castle Ethos: Part 3
"We should fall back." You begin to have your men organize the prisoners for transport back to the main lines as you speak to your fellows. "We have pushed the enemy back here. They will not push hard against us now, not when we have badly hurt their forces on this front. They simply cannot afford to commit."

"Agreed. The humans are bested, broken. They shall remain cautious, wary for a while now. Enough for us to finish this." The Tyrant of the group concurs with your assessment. This is enough for you to begin heading back home.

It is not a particularly long haul, although having to move with twenty humans does slow down your convoy. The time taken to meticulously defeat the forces arrayed against you means the battle for the castle gates is more or less over by the time you arrive. The battlefield is full of the dead or dying, and only a relatively small force remains to clean up, tend to the wounded and collect surviving humans. Even so, the group is much larger then your minuscule detachment. A Tyrant, know to as the Pincer of Ceravus, waves you over so that you may report to him.

"Commander, we bring news from our front." The Barnin-Tra steps to the forefront of your group and begins speaking immediately. "After defeating the enemy forces stationed at the Western Gate, we have come back to report on what we found. First and most importantly, a box of high quality bearing the Reton seal was being escorted by one of the Royal Guard." To emphasize the point, and because the armor she wears is very heavy, you dump the wounded Guard member in question at the Pincer's feet. She gasps from the shock. Due to blood loss from you removing part of her legs, she's still in minor shock. It should wear off in time for the interrogation.

"Impressive, impressive. You three and your soldiers shall be noted, honored for this. You may have done us a great service today. Barnin-Los!" He barked out a command to two siege engineers that were on guard nearby, and they slither open to investigate the box. After looking at it for a few moments, one of them holds the floating box to the ground with his fists and then slices the reinforced and magically sealed lid in two with his talons. It clearly wasn't meant to stand up to an aggressive creature several meters in length.

Gathering round, the lot of you take a look inside as the Pincer removes the two broken halves of the top to see the contents.

They are...

"Cultural items, mementos, Lord Pincer." The Juvenile Tyrant is the first to break the silence as you try to understand what you're seeing. When he does, it clicks, and then it clicks. The Princess must be aware that morale is an important factor in how humans wage war, and with Castle Ethos falling, and her perhaps along with it, getting some kind of reassurance out to the still free people of the south would have been of utmost importance to her plans. Fortunately, it looks like she was waiting to send the chest out under cover of battle instead of trying to run the Pathfinder cordon the Pits of the regiment had set up. She hadn't counted on a rapid response group being sent to that gate. How interesting.

"Is that all? I must admit, I was hoping for something more... directly useful to eliminate our targets." The Barnin-Tra rubs his chin in thought. You agree a little, this was at the very least unexpected, but it may be more valuable than any direct weapon. You begin to rifle through the contents.

"A lot of Reton family heirlooms, royal items. Many letters and prepared speeches about not giving up the fight. Ornamental pieces of gear that hold significance to the peoples of the land. I think we may have struck another great blow here." You straighten up, and look over to the gates once more, them having been blown clean open. You can hear the sounds of battle, but they are very faint. "Time to finish the job."

[] Loot For All! Storming The Armory: The battle is mostly over. What you need to do now is secure the castle, and the first thing to do on that front is get to the armory before any human has a "smart" idea of some kind. The fact that this gives you access to potentially very powerful weapons is a mere side benefit, albeit a very appreciated one.
[] No Escape! Hunting The Stragglers: The last thing you need is fleeing opponents informing others of your force composition and regrouping. Let one live to tell the tale and all that, but only one. Not a glamorous job by any means, but some Yun has to do it, and if nothing else it's a safe role compared to your other options.
[] The Most Dangerous Game:
There is something you can do to help the main battle itself: hunt down the remaining pockets of resistance. Naturally, those all contain at least one member of the Royal Guard. Accelerating the movement of other forces will allow the Regiment to both secure Ethos and hunt for stragglers more effectively, but it is a very risky job to take.

The Siege of Castle Ethos: Part 4
You enter through the gates with your forces, intent on heading for the primary armory. Although the regiment doesn't know the exact location of the place, the general design of the Castle itself means you can guess where the place is reasonably effectively. After a few failed attempts lead you to useless dead ends, you find yourself on the right track when you encounter some surprisingly heavily armed human soldiers. Maybe they were trying to make a breakthrough for one reason or another. Still, it hardly matters.

The three in the front charge forward and begin swinging wildly. They're clearly not used to their weapons and armor, but the broad slashes are enough to cut clean through two of your soldiers in the opening moments. The apparent leader manages to successfully put another on guard and kill him while the two to his side are beginning to get overwhelmed by your concentrated forces. As their commander turns to you, he is forced to quickly duck under the way of a tossed sword. When he rights himself again, he is cut in two by one of your legs. A look of shock frozen on his face, he falls over, and you ensure his demise when he hits the floor. The other two are dealt with also, each taking down an additional trooper before being hacked to pieces by their vengeful comrades. Hmm, 5 to 3. Not all too bad, considering what they had.

You walk over to your blade and pick it up from the ground while three others bring the fourth over to you. He clearly has no more stomach for the fight, and gave up.

"Boy. Explain the meaning of your compatriots' gear. Were you running from the fight?" You walk over slowly, each step making a distinct clinking sound of a metal tip against the stone floor. He shrinks back as much as he can with three blades poking at him.

"Your Assassins had just gotten to our post. We, we were attacked from behind. After..." He sniffles a little, trying not to think too hard about what had happened. "After he d-died, us four ran for it. We had no other choice, you were just too strong for us. We wanted to escape, and deny the w-weapons of the armory to you, but then you came..."

You walk forward even closer. Now standing right next to him, practically over him with how he's trying to sink into the floor, you ask one final question.

"Which way to the Armory." It was a demand, not a request, and the boy complied, pointing down one of the hallways.

"My thanks. You three, take him back out to the front." You turn away from the soldier and move down the corridor to the chance of loot. The good news is that if this was a typical group, the battle is going well indeed. It looks like the regular forces of the humans is all but broken.

Your journey ends soon after, as after a few more turns down increasingly ostentatious hallways, you find the Royal Armory of Reton itself, filled with all manner of highly enchanted and perfectly made equipment. Your own sword is of a high quality, but it is as nothing compared to elite human equipment. Of course, you're not the first ones here. As the boy implied, another section of Yun had arrived before you and already begun the process of laying their hands on whatever they could use. Their own captain moves towards you as you enter. He nods.

"Captain."

You nod back. "Captain."

He turns around and gestures at the significantly sized vault you currently stand in. "Take what you want that is still in its rack. I'm afraid the truly choice pieces have been taken for myself and my soldiers or marked for Kothkor to distribute as he pleases."

You look at his personal weapon, intrigued.

"Would that by the Champion's Weapon?" The truly powerful piece of equipment in this armory. It was very lucky that in their scramble the scavenging party from before had overlooked it.

"Yes, yes it is." He pats the crossbow hanging from his side. "We're lucky they couldn't use it against us in this battle."

Hmm. From a cursory examination it looks like the truly unique and powerful items you keep getting told humans have aren't being stored here, and the one exception has been taken. Still, a vast amount of high quality items lies before you. Carnifex Regiment regulations don't differ from normal Barnin-Tra looting rules, you find a superior set of equipment of a human you generally take just one for yourself. What to go for...

[] A New Melee Weapon.
[] A Ranged Weapon.
[] A Set of Armor.

Oh right, forgot to vote.

[X] A Set of Armor

An effective means of promotion in a lot of evil armies is to simply outlast your superiors.
