Summary: While some risks are sometimes taken as too much, Magnus decides to go on with his decision. Sacrificing all of his learned skills and acquired knowledge may have further effects than he expected, but the reward may be greater than anyone expected.

Now with a ship in pieces, not remembering even who he is besides his name and the land of Hyrule to explore, friendly faces, monsters and many problems will present to himself before he can even take a step off the World.

Welcome all back, this is the awaited (I think) sequel to A Flair for Mould Breaking. Many years have passed since the end of the first story and a new character takes the leading role. This is a much slower story than the previous one, Zelda: BotW is a big place with a lot to see and even with a restricted schedule it will take time before the second large arc of the story begins (World Traveling).

Forge Version Explanation
(Can be ignored as it's explained in-story but maybe someone's already curious)

First thing, there's no CP (Choice Points) or similar, the character will earn perks depending on what they do. E.g. cooking a large variety of dishes will provide a cooking perk, learning smithing will provide a smithing perk, learning from the Goron will provide the Goron Crafting perk. Though not all are straightforward, plus some things aren't covered by perks so some may be created for the occasion if necessary.
Second thing, Magnus' System covers more than the Forge, I'll leave the explanation for in-story, mainly because it's secondary (if not tertiary in importance).
Third thing, there's no freebies and most perks are knowledge-related. Tools, materials and most powers will have to be acquired in some other way.
Fourth thing, perk gain is slow and minimal, that means at most 1 perk every few chapters, I'm using perks more as a narrative tool than a meta tool (if that makes sense).

On other things, given how long the Hyrule arc is, this thread will most likely only cover the Hyrule Arc and a new thread may be created once it steps into the second section. This is to not have the title/story marked as Multicross when there's no real multicross for hundreds of thousands of words.

Sleep well, Magnus.

Roughly ninety five years after Hyrule's princess sealed the Calamity, the night skies turned to day before dawn. The firmament broke as something inside and outside worked together at levels that most just couldn't understand,or believe possible.

Those few that were awake, or had their sleep interrupted by the event, could only observe the night sky transfixed. Some claimed the end was coming, that Calamity was free, but others remained calmer, wise enough to not act without proper thought.

One of those was Lady Impa, elder of Kakariko Village, who had recently celebrated her hundred and fifteen birthday and decided it was time to start training a successor. The old, shrunken woman stepped out of her bedroom, finding one of her guards looking up at the sky.

"Dorian." She greeted him.

"Lady Impa," the man turned to her halfway, keeping an eye on the sky, "it only started a few minutes ago… do you think-"

"No." She cut him off. "There's something greater than all of us at work here, but it's not Calamity. I still remember the sickening presence that monster carried, this is not that." She spoke slowly, mulling on the words.

Her next thought was broken by a sudden explosion in the sky. Too high for them to even hear, but the multiple flaming objects falling in multiple directions were hard to miss; especially as the holes on the firmament fixed themselves a moment later.

Impa sighed. "Order the guards to see if any piece fell close by, I doubt we'll miss the landing. If they find it, observe from a distance, but it can wait till morning." She told Dorian, the Sheikah nodding and moving as she rubbed her chin.

"I wonder what it's all about… and what it will mean for us." She pondered before returning to her room.

The first things Magnus knew was the pain of his body impacting the walls of the compartment he filled and the blaring noise of the alarms signaling something was going terribly wrong.

He couldn't tell what was going wrong, but the brutal shaking he was being put through was a very good clue.

While the box that held him appeared designed to hold him as still as possible, it was similarly easy to free himself from it, revealing a room bathed in the red lights of alarms. His observation cut short as another strong shake sent him tumbling off his bed and down to the ground, adding a few more bruises to his body.

There was little respite for him, and as he barely managed to get on his feet by holding onto the box, the shaking came to a halt. But only after whatever vessel he had been in impacted something large enough to bring them to a stop.

Thankfully it appeared they had hit water instead of solid ground, reducing the impact and only sending him tumbling down to the ground. Magnus decided to simply lay there, the hard floor feeling quite nice for his bruised body once he could confirm he wasn't going to be sent tumbling more.

He waited for a minute after the alarms stopped blaring before getting up, slowly taking account of himself and the area around once more.

The first thing his eyes stopped on was the bed he had been sleeping in, a combination of bed and box, practically a coffin. It's undeniably comfortable, the way it had held his body firmly in place was a nice way to sleep, and if it wasn't for the obvious incident, he would most likely have woken up in perfect shape. It may actually have been what kept him from getting further injured now that he thought about it.

The way said bed was attached to the floor made it appear as if it sprouted from the stark and clean metallic surface. Though now that he observed closer, there appeared to be a very fine pattern drawn on the material. It drew a grand design that spanned the whole room, but Magnus was having troubles even parsing a small piece; his eyes simply slipped past it, incapable of making sense or committing it to memory.

That made his attention turn to himself. Everything told him he should know what those etchings were, that he should be able to read them, and focus on the minute detail. But he couldn't, he couldn't read them, he actually felt dull and inept.

He stopped that train of thought and gave his body a proper look. Without a mirror he couldn't tell his age, but he appeared to be young. His skin was almost a honey color, his hands looked healthy, but he could see a few marks of work on them. Even if he couldn't remember what exactly had caused them.

That truly stopped him completely. His mind raced, trying to find anything in his memories. But it was an unproductive endeavor. He knew his name, but anything else eluded him completely.

His hand gripped the edge of the bed to keep himself standing, cold sweat running down his body, bringing a strange sense of relief to his beaten body. With a need to feel in control, he tried to speak, to say his name.

"Ma… ge noose." The words that stumbled out of his mouth, feeling wrong as even speech had gained a sense of unfamiliarity. "Magne… Mag. Nus… Magnus."

He felt a deep sense of relief flood him once he managed to speak his name. It was his, and no one would take it away from him.

The small celebration was cut short when a neutral, monotone voice spoke up.

"Name and Voice Pattern recognized."

He found the source of the voice, a glowing orange sphere had appeared out of thin air and was idly floating in front of him. Reaching for it revealed it was some kind of hologram, his fingers going through the object unimpeded.

"User Magnus Acknowledged, initiating System." The voice continued speaking.

A shiver went through his body as the orange sphere flattened into a screen that quickly filled with text.

"User: Magnus, Age: Twenty years old, Class: Sealed, Job: None, Potential: Incalculable." He read along. "What the… why is my surname and class sealed? What does it even mean they are sealed?!"

The screen updated following his question.

"Surname and Class sealed behind missing memories? Then why am I missing my memories?" He continued reading. "Memories currently lost due to ritual, what ritual?!" He couldn't help but scream as every answer only brought more questions. "User, Magnus, sacrificed an extensive amount of his skills in exchange for greater potential… I must have had some incredible skills if I had incalculable potential." He tried to joke as he regained his bearings.

He slowly read through the information the system was given him. Apparently he had willingly and knowingly taken part in the ritual and sacrificed his skills, he had also taken a trip somewhere. Apparently he had also willingly accepted this too and simply left it to luck and adventure.

He slowly asked for every little thing he could think off, learning as much as he could. Which was sadly much less than he would have wanted. Much of the information apparently sealed behind his missing memories, and the fact he didn't know what to ask for exactly curtailed his information gathering.

But the thirty minutes he spent asking questions helped him recenter himself and further get the feeling he was in control. Feeling much more secure, Magnus decided it was time to leave the small ritual room.

The door took a moment to open, but finally did so and revealed a hallway designed in a similar way to the room. The main difference was how the lower half of the walls and the floor were made of some darker material, it gave the impression of being somewhere between plastic and ceramic. It was interestingly warm to the touch of his hand.

Something Magnus had learned in the last thirty minutes, was the fact he was indeed in a ship. A very advanced ship designed to travel through the space between Worlds, but this trip had pushed it past anything it had been designed. This was shown by the very rough entrance it had into the World and similarly rough landing.

And while all the parts of the ship had technically survived the entrance, they hadn't done so as a unit. Magnus was in what could be the most secure segment of the ship, designed to keep the user safe during transit. But it was also the smallest, shown by how the hallway only had six doors.

Half of them head to the outside, and of those two were currently sealed by the outside conditions, while the third was an emergency hatch revealed by the emergency situation. One of them led back to the room he had been in, meaning he had no reason to investigate it further at the moment.

With two doors left, he tried the one on the opposite wall of the hallway. The system helpfully pointed out that the room was a bedroom, and it showed. There was something very familiar in the room, feeling comfortable and fitting to his sensibilities; he most likely had decorated it.

This was further proved by how well fitting were the change of clothes he had found in one of the wardrobes, though it surprised him to see it quite lacking in the number of clothes.

Dressed and feeling much more civilized, he tried the remaining door. It was revealed to be a small storage room. Thankfully the system pointed out the use of anything he didn't recognize at first sight.

Dressed and with a backpack carrying everything he counted as basic and necessary for his survival he reached for the emergency hatch to step out into a wild new world.

The Yiga scout didn't palm a yawn. Not only the mask covering their face made the action hard, but they were also not like those weak Sheikah that would feel tired after not sleeping for a night.

And what a night, it certainly wasn't always the skies showing sights like those. They had the obligation to return to base and inform Master Kohga about what they had seen. But something was keeping them from leaving just yet.

Whatever had broken through, had fallen very close to the coast of the Lodrum Headlands with the Lanayru Sea. It was normally a low-risk zone to be assigned to, as long as they kept away from the Hinox to the south and the Lynel further south of his position. There was practically nothing worth anyone's time, even the Zora rarely came to the area and they lived a thrown stone away. Most scouts either chose it to laze around, or were assigned to it as a punishment, the secret was getting the second when you wanted the first.

The Yiga scout had been ready to run back to base after seeing the object fall from the sky, making a vague note of the area it had fallen for possible recovery work. But seeing it float back up only barely worse for the wear had made them stop and watch. It had taken a while, but it had slowly floated to the coast and landed with a certain level of control that made them think it was being controlled by something.

His wait was rewarded when a smooth section of the metallic object opened and a figure stepped out. It was definitely a man, his body was somewhere between the lithe Yiga foot-soldier and the bulky blade-masters, the tone of his skin almost reminded the Gerudo by how earthy it was, the final detail he could gleam was the striking purple hair, a color he had only seen a couple times on specially colorful Ritos.

They couldn't see any distinctive crests or marks on his person, and were too far to get a good view of his face, so without another doubt, the Yiga scout left. They knew Master Kohga would be happy to learn of this strange man, and with the fallen object not deep underwater, maybe they could see about retrieving it.

Stepping out, let Magnus find the ship segment he had been in had safely landed on a sandy beach by a rocky outcrop. Thankfully there appeared to be a way up, otherwise he would have to find how well he could climb, it still promised to be a hard trek.

There was little else, and since he didn't feel the need to try his hand at fishing at the moment, the young man closed the ship and started walking.

"System?" He prompted out loud as he slowly climbed the rough, rocky path. With a chime, the familiar orange sphere appeared in thin air and maintained its position respective to him. "Recommendations?"

"User should secure shelter, a water source and food. Current location of ship segment unfavorable, recommended relocation." The system droned on.

"What about the ship's other pieces?"

"The other ship's segments survived their respective falls. But the damage taken would have made them take measures to hide themselves before entering repair mode. It's not recommended to hunt them until the User has acquired a minimum level of proficiency."

"Proficiency in what?" He asked as he saw the end of his short trek up.

"Survival and Fighting"

Magnus couldn't help but chuckle. "Already expecting me to fight?"

"The segment's substandard scans show multiple entities in the proximity that could provide great danger for the user."

The system's words were accompanied by an image of a large, blue cyclops, as fat as it was tall. And given the trees it was sleeping by, it was definitely multiple times his height.

"And it's definitely evil?" He asked as he took one last step and took a moment to recover his breath.

"Scans show a very high concentration of what could be denominated evil energy flowing through the target."

"Okay, okay, sounds like a good measuring stick." He looked around, outside of the promise of a giant monster not far off, the area looked quite nice.

With basically no frame of reference or map, Magnus decided to sort out something basic. Cardinal points were a good point, and with the sun rising from the ocean behind him, it was easy to call it East.

From there he had dangerous monsters to the south if his system was correct, and it was pretty hard to cross the mountain chain to the North and North West. So all he could do was go West or West South.

"System recommends foraging during exploration."

Magnus thought about it for a moment, while he certainly had non-perishable rations in his backpack for more than a few days, fresh food sounded better; even if he didn't trust himself for anything too complex.

He made sure to keep an eye as he started to walk, it was actually hard to tell what was good since everything was so luscious. From how bouncy the grass was under his feet, to the large mushrooms growing at the feet of the large trees and the bright red apples growing above; they at least looked like apples.

He grabbed a couple of the hopefully-apples, a few orange and red mushrooms that grew at the feet of one of the trees, a handful of what appeared to be purple artichokes, a few red peppers that had been growing from a single and lonesome plant, the last thing he found, and mostly through luck, were a few carrots.

For just a couple hours of foraging it seemed this land was bountiful, and there was definitely signs of habitation as he had found what appeared to be an abandoned camp site. Someone had even left a large metal pot he could use to cook, after he cleaned it.

"Well… I remember enough to know these should be good." He thought out loud as he plucked one of the apples in his backpack. "Any way I can test if this is edible?"

"System recommends a simple allergy test: rub a few drops of the juice behind your wrist and wait for a reaction. System believes User's senses can confirm the rest."

He thought about it, it looked okay, smelled okay, the juice definitely smelled sweet and like apples. A few drops on the back of his wrist and a few minutes later he found no strange reaction, besides his skin ending sticky when the juice dried up.

"Looks fine to me." He chuckled and bit down.

It was definitely an apple, sweet and crisp, the juices practically dripped down his chin. As long as he didn't end sick in a couple of hours it at least confirmed he would most likely not die of hunger.

"System, any way you can check if I'm getting sick or similar?"

"System can provide a very basic check up, but it would be preferred if the User finds civilization."

Magnus stopped for a moment and wondered if the system had just sassed him, or it was just his impression.

Still, as he enjoyed the fresh apple, he looked at the other thing he had found. It had been quite a surprise when he found thumb-sized, green crystals, about ten of them in total. They were all practically identical and had been simply laying between the grass, though he wouldn't have noticed them if he hadn't ripped a handful off while searching for more carrots.

"Any idea what it is?" He prompted as he held the crystal against the system's avatar.

"Rudimentary scan shows a stable crystal formation with an energetic base-"

"In basic English, please." Magnus quickly interrupted. "Maybe if it's interesting enough I will ask for more details."

There was a moment of silence before it resumed. "Preference noted. Object appears to be made of solid magical energy, it's definitely naturally formed."

"So I could use it as a battery?" He tried.

"Negative, object's too stable to be usable as battery without an external method. Energy exchange would result in catastrophic failure to the object's existence."

He thought about it for a moment. "So if I try to store energy it will blow up, and if I try to drain it it will what? Break apart?"

"Correct."

"May be useful as an explosive if it's explosive enough." He chuckled and tried a few of the other items he had collected, only leaving the mushrooms aside. Better leave it to professionals.

From the rest of his bounty, the carrot was definitely a carrot, even if the bit he ate had a particular aftertaste. The artichoke would need to be cooked to tell, it was just too touch to tell at the moment. The peppers were most likely peppers, and quite spicy ones at that, just the bit he ate from one made his whole body feel hot. Something of little note.

Magnus wasn't feeling tired, and the apple had easily sated what little hunger he had gotten during his walk and forage. So with the warm rays of sun coming down on him and nothing openly dangerous, he leaned back and relaxed.

The calm moment of nature was broken when the system chimed in a completely new tone, making him sit up surprised.

"User's overflowing Potential has unlocked one of the system's functions: Connection with the current World has been achieved ahead of schedule. Connection and Potential have allowed the system to acquire a Wisp of Knowledge to be acquired."

Magnus sat and tensed, slowly going through the words spoken.

"Explain." He requested.

"This system has been designed to help User reach their true potential. User's current potential is high enough that system has managed to connect with the World at a level deep enough to-"

"Too many words, resume things." He interrupted the system, he would need to check later to see if there were some preferences in how it answered questions.

"User's high potential and actions taken have allowed the system to reward them with a small bit of common knowledge from this World."

He nodded along. "Okay, that sounds pretty useful. Will this only work in this world? How many times can I expect this to happen? And what is required of me?" He shot the three questions and then gave the system time to answer.

"Once a Wisp of Knowledge's acquired, System can adapt the knowledge to other Worlds. User may refer to this as having 'already paid the price'. Given the user's incalculable potential, the System can't answer this question. User shouldn't suffer more than a small sensation from a Wisp of Knowledge."

"...OK, hit me with it then."

The sudden sensation in his mind was weird, it wasn't painful at all, not even a bother truly. It was the strange ghost sensation of having picked fruits and vegetables from the wild thousands upon thousands of times. Identifying good prey and dangerous predators, how to bring both down and how to acquire the best bounty from their bodies. From small rabbits to large bears, all could be brought down and butchered.

But it was more than just that, how to identify poisonous mushrooms and which were the best woods to smoke meat. How to not scour an area clean for future use. How to use and maintain his tools. And even how to utilize all of this bounty to trade in town for everything else a family could need to live well.

Once the sensation of new/old experiences melted away, the first thing he did was reach for the knife he had used to harvest much of his bounty and proceeded to clean it well. It felt silly that he had allowed it to rest coated in the artichokes' sap and dirt for so long, he may even need to search for a good whetstone to make sure it didn't lose its edge.

"Will it be like this every time?" He asked the system while he gave his bounty a new look with an actual skilled eye.

"No. User only received the most modest kind of Wisp of Knowledge. System will also point out that if the user's Potential wasn't so high, User wouldn't have acquired a Wisp so easily. Next Wisp of Knowledge will be much harder to acquire."

"Does that mean I will need to complete harder tasks? Take more time? Risk my life?" He asked as he gave the mushrooms another look, glad to find them most likely edible.

"Yes. Now all Wisps of Knowledge will be earned the same way. Some may require the user to master a skill, or use it in combat, or achieve a certain threshold, or carry a certain action." The System droned on. "The World may reward the user with Wisps of Knowledge for certain actions too."

Magnus stopped his reorganization of his backpack. "Wait, the world's sentient?"

"No." With that answer he was about to sigh before the system kept on talking. "The world is most likely not sentient. The World is, even if it usually can't interact with mortals."

"What's the difference?" He asked slowly as he picked his backpack up, this time hooking it correctly.

"A world is normally used to refer to an inhabited celestial body. A World is something greater than Reality, a World may contain multiple Realities. There exist multiple Worlds, User originated from a different World."

He wondered how much of this he knew before the ritual, though after a few minutes he came to the realization it didn't really matter at the moment.

"System, how long will it take me to recover my memories?"

"Unknown, the only recommendation is for the user to experience new things and acquire new Wisps of Knowledge."

"So I've to just keep on going, eh?"

Magnus chuckled softly as he started marching, he was in a new World and there was plenty to see. He only wondered what had pushed him to do this.

Perks Acquired
The Wild Hunt(100) (TLOZ-BOTW): A hunter's chief job is to provide for those around them. It takes a certain talent to forage off the land, but you're one of the best. You have the skills to hunt, trap, and kill wild beasts -such as boars, bears, and deer-with ease. You're also skilled at discerning fruits and nuts safe to eat as well, allowing you to get the full benefit of nature's sacrifice. If you just had this you'd be able to feed an entire family for a week with a combination of fresh fruits and smoked meats...it'll certainly make you popular in towns.
Craftsman (100) (Generic Builder): You have a talent for creating things requiring wood as well as selecting the best wood for the job at hand. Creation times are halved for each purchase of this knack and the results are always visually impressive if you so wish.
Medicine (GUNNM)– You have the skills of a surgeon, first-responder and pharmacist, all roughly bundled together with a lot of hands-on experience with the worst injuries the wasteland has to offer. Your hands are steady, your focus unperturbed by the sight and stench of gore and viscera, and you have the precise and quick reflexes necessary to swat a fly with a scalpel. You also have a fair bit of experience with slightly inhuman and mutated physiology, and are very quick to pick up on new techniques and tools.
Alchemy (200CP) (Final Fantasy IV): A lack of magic makes you no less useful, and you've learned how to make use of the various potions and other items on a grand scale. You can mix together multiple items, compounding their effects. It doesn't create something new, but instead additively combines the source materials into something with as much potency, to the upper limit of five times the strongest of your source materials.
The Hand that Wields(100CP) (Zelda BREATH OF THE WILD): Muscle memory is an insidious foe - when the Sheikah demonstrated their amazing Eightfold Weapons, these amazing weapons were pearls before swine as the Hylians were so used to double edged swords they were unable to effectively wield them, even some of the most talented knights. But that isn't something you're liable to fall to anymore. You can wield unfamiliar weapons meant for foreign styles of combat just fine and even as they were intended, as long as your biology is roughly the same. Of course, you also have the basic combat skill to even utilize this in the first place - you're trained with the discipline of a Hylian guardsman at this point.
Hammer And Anvil (100CP)(The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild - TG):It'd hardly be right to call you a smith if you couldn't even bang out a piece of metal, eh? You're a seasoned blacksmith, able to work metal and create all manner of useful metal objects - horseshoes, charms, and emblems...and of course, weapons and armor. The weapons and armor you create are reliable and easy to make, the kind used by Travelers and Soldiers all around Hyrule.
Goron Crafting (200 CP) - You know the secrets of the Goron Craftsmen. You can create metal armors that can render the wearer immune to heat, powerful hammer-blades that can smash through the toughest rocks, advanced Bomb Arrows that won't explode from ambient heat, and more. Anything built by Gorons, you can recreate, so long as you can gather the right materials.
The honed edge (100 CP) (Pocky & Rocky): With just a bit of time and polish you can restore any blade to its true sharpness, as if it were just crafted. Rust and tarnish to away with ease as well. Your tools and weapons are always in the best shape. SOME effort does need to be put into this care of course
Shoulders of Giants (Zelda BOTW)(100): Researching the technology of the ancients isn't always gallivanting in ruins, poring over carvings in caverns, or digging up forgotten treasures. It is a science, and science requires both discipline and documentation. You've made time for the formal parts of your vocation - and it's not entirely busywork either. You are now able to document and sift through the information you've gathered, finding patterns and gleaning real wisdom and knowledge from seemingly fractured clues.
Chemist (100CP)(Fallout 4):Groovy! Knowledge of chemistry has given you the ability to recite the entire periodic table, as well as knowledge of many exciting compounds such as dipotassium phosphate! Oh, and you can also make less exciting things like Stimpacks and Psycho, but why would you do that?
Sparking Innovation (Zelda BOTW)(200): The fruits of hard work and study. By studying the arts of the ancient Sheikah, You can now create basic "Ancient" technology. The chief use of this is that you have the knowledge of creating the "blue flame" that acts as the energy source for much Sheikah Tech. This Blue Flame can be used to fuel various "magitech" as Sheikah devices are known to be, and in turn you are capable of creating simple tools such as cameras and recording devices with this level of knowledge. Nothing ground shaking on its own, but it's the base of even greater innovation...
Engineer (100CP)(Megas XLR):You're a talented and knowledgeable multi discipline engineer, particularly skilled in everything you could ever need to maintain Megas and similar war machines.
Aesthetics (100CP)(Terraria - Journey's End): It's not enough to just be able to make things, if you can't make them look good. You now have a true talent for design work and layout, capable of mentally visualizing complex structures and working out how best to match your mental vision, without sacrificing things like structural integrity. This also applies when making things on a smaller scale, allowing you to alter the design of objects to add aesthetic flare without compromising their function.
Zora Crafting (200CP)(The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild - SB):You have the skills of a Zora Craftsman. You can create suits of flexible armor that boost the wearer's ability to swim, mighty spears and tridents, powerful Ice Arrows that leave waves of cold in their wake, and more. Any item or structure that a Zora has built, you can recreate, given time and appropriate materials.
The Arcane Craft (300CP)(Sword and Sorcery):As much as you might look down upon brutes and barbarians who know only how to break bone and spill blood, you and the warriors of this land have one thing in common. You require the tools of your trade. You know all the methods and ways to bind arcane and mysterious forces into physical vessels. Rings, staves, talismans, warded stone towers, and even more. These items allow the channeling of such forces to work your will, capturing, bending, and shaping the worlds invisible tides to enable works of sorcery and occult splendor. The strength of these items and their effects rely on your skill, knowledge, and power. Of course should you yourself be a font of such forces from your varied lives then you would be surely capable of building the focuses and talismans to augment and amplify your power. The world rewards men for diligent labor. It would behoove you to refine this art to get everything you can out of it. This also includes the skill to use such items, even those not made by your hand should you have the ability to reveal their secrets.
Enchanted Instruments 101 (Legend of Mana)(100CP) Music makes the magic flow. You know how to make and use instruments that play magic. Each instrument is constructed of a material and a gold or silver elemental coin of some type. The material and coin type decide the effect the instrument (although the effect is always damaging in some way). Elemental coins can be obtained by playing music elemental spirits like. You also know what kind of music different elemental spirits like. Naturally, you also know how to play said music.
Gimmick and Trick (200CP)(The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild - TG):Arrows are a vital resource, not in the least because they are simple and easy to adjust. With your help, the humble arrow can go from a projectile to a problem solver! You now know how to make the 'trick' arrows utilized in Hyrule, the elemental arrows of fire, lightning and ice as well as the explosive bomb arrows. If you wished, you could extend this tinkering habit to non-projectiles, allowing you to create gimmick weapons and tools similar to that created by Kilton, proprietor of the Fang and Bone. In addition, if you have Hammer and Anvil, the quality of your crafted items is increased - allowing you to craft weapons of the quality of non-Hylian special weapons such as the Drillshaft or Gerudo Scimitar, or the quality of the weapons used by the Knights of Hyrule.
Improving What is Already Made (300 CP) (GoW 2018): The curse of being a craftsman is that you are almost always improving your craft, and can be embarrassed by your earlier works. You no longer have to worry about that, should you find an improvement to your craft you find it relatively easy to apply it to already finished products.
Shaper (100CP)(Age Of Wonders II):Stone is a tough servant, resisting most ways to work it by unskilled hands. Under your touch, however, it molds itself eagerly, as if it were unable to wait to become the new shapes you wish for it. You are a gifted artisan with the natural materials of the world, and can build fortifications, buildings, and other creations out of wood, stone, sand, and any other such materials with great ease. Indeed, under your touch the materials you work with seem to become greater, somehow - sand and clay toughen to match granite when building a wall, and a carved wooden blade seems to hold its edge like fine steel once you're finished with it.
It Is Written(400CP)(The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild – TG): The use of mystical runes for enchanted effects is well known by those with a passing interest in the magical arts, but...the Sheikah were unique. They were able to create a language from runes that had conditional statements and effects. In short - the Sheikah could program with runes, thus allowing for programs to become spells. You have knowledge of this art as well - You are able to use Runes to code programs such as those used by the Sheikah Slate to perform its functions. This combined with Sparking Innovation would give you the groundwork to create your own variant of the Sheikah Slate with your own round of Runes...though magic doesn't make something simple - you'll need to create the code for these Slates yourself.
Tailor Made(200CP)(Skulduggery Pleasant):You have the knowledge of how to weave magic into clothes, making them incredibly durable and protective. They're capable of protecting the wearer from most things, including bullets, knives, magic, extreme heat, and large amounts of blunt-force trauma. They also look damn stylish.
Fairy Weaver [400 CP] (Zelda - TotK): You have learned the secrets of enchantment from the Great Fairies, allowing you to take various mundane and mystical materials, and use them to imbue power and protection within armors or clothing. You can even extend this to enhancing weapons and tools with the right materials, and your connections to your own works will allow you to enhance them even beyond what the Great Fairies could accomplish.
Inner Linings (100CP)(Final Fantasy XIV):A customer came to you one day with a strange request for you to make a leather jacket which would be thinner, enough so that it would take multiple jackets to equal the bulk and weight of a normal jacket. As strange as that request was, when you watched him enchant the various jackets it suddenly made sense. Instead of trying to enchant a single jacket multiple times, he would wear multiple jackets enchanted once. But you can improve on that idea. Instead of attempting to craft multiple thinner jackets, you've opened up inner linings in existing pieces of work. As you predicted, while the ease of stacking enchantments has gone up, the overall durability of the item has dropped by a bit. Perhaps with time and better materials, you could rectify the second point. Having so many inner linings also helps quite a bit when it comes to deeper pockets, which is a nice side effect.
Rito Crafting (200CP)(The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild - SB):You have the ability of a Rito Craftsman. You are able to craft warm clothing that can help keep out the chill, even when soaring at the highest heights, powerful bows that can be used to fire multiple arrows at once, Fire Arrows which are enhanced with mighty winds to fan their flames hotter and create mightier updrafts, and more. Anything that has been built by a Rito can be recreated by you, given the right resources.
Whether There's Weather (100CP)(Satisfactory-Factorio Gauntlet)(Durability):If you built or designed it, it's weatherproof. What kind of weather? Yes. Snow, scorching heat, pouring rain, vacuum, hail, all sorts of weather. If a human could survive a while without a spacesuit, you tech will keep working. And maybe it'll keep working even if a human couldn't.
Blessing of Courage - Jack of All Trades(400) (TLOZ – Ocarina of Time): Master of none - but far better than a master of one. You're a fair hand at almost any mundane skill you care to try -be it swordsmanship, horseback riding, archery, fishing, free climbing, and much more. If it's a skill or trade a native of Hyrule would be likely to learn, then it's within your grasp. While an expert or master in any of those things could outdo you, the sheer breadth of your natural talent is without equal. As a side effect to this, you can easily pick up and use any tool for its intended purpose and (mostly) without hurting yourself.
Blessing of Wisdom - The Hero's Tools(400) (TLOZ – Ocarina of Time): The tools by which legends are made don't come from thin air - The Megaton Hammer had to have been forged once upon a time, and the potions that the hero uses to continue the fight were brewed by a crone at one point. It is the place of the wise to arm the strong and worthy - a place that you are well suited for. You've acquired a good sense for infusing magic and spells into objects or creating new objects with some knowhow of tinkering. Be it the water-breathing Zora tunic, the Hookshot or a potion to restore magic power, that which you make by your hands will surely be valued. While this alone doesn't give you knowledge of a trade, it does allow you to augment what you do know with enchantments and magic - even being able to create magical sweets if all you knew to do was bake bread.
Blessing of Power - Forsaken Fortress(400) (TLOZ – Ocarina of Time): While you understand the need to protect certain things from interlopers similarly to the arts of the wise, you rely on more...pragmatic means of doing so. You have an eye for constructing elaborate, dangerous and trap filled dungeons with esoteric and unclear security measures - the less intelligent would regard them as puzzles and riddles, if they had to describe them. While you could do this normally, you can also speed up the process or even bypass mundane bricklaying altogether via magic. The larger and more elaborate you make these dungeons, the more time and energy-consuming it is for you - however it'll often be much faster than if you were to do so by hand.
Gerudo Crafting (200CP)(The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild - SB)(Artisan):You are a Gerudo Craftswoman, with all the skill that implies. You can make clothing for both voe and vai that can keep them cool and even help protect from lightning, fashion gorgeous swords and shields designed to be used by the greatest warriors, and Shock Arrows that encapsulate the fury of the storm itself, releasing a mighty shockwave on impact. Any item made by Gerudo hands can be shaped by yours, so long as you have gathered all needed ingredients.
Academia (100CP)(FATE/JUMPCHAIN) - You've spent your whole life learning and helping out your teachers, and those benefits have stuck with you. You'll find it much easier to teach others, as well as understand new knowledge a fair bit quicker.

Chapter 2

Venturing the Wild – 02

The soft light of the morning shone through the room's windows and open doors. The sunny day outside could easily make one forget how catastrophic the sky had been just a few hours earlier.

Lady Impa sat on a pile of zabutons, watching over those in the room even in her diminutive size and advanced age. She couldn't help but worry about the weight of the hat, and it wasn't just the ridiculous ceremonial headwear she was saddled with from her position. But also about the fact that she had passed her century of life over a decade ago, and she had only her young granddaughter as a prospective successor.

To her sides stood her two guards, Dorian and Cado, the two male Sheikah stood in their respective spots. While she had known the latter practically from birth, the former had joined the village just recently after his wife had been killed by bandits, looking for a safe place to raise his daughters. The two babies were currently being watched over by the village's matron.

In front of her there were three young Sheikah: Rasmon, Ommo and Suli. The three spent a lot of time outside of the village hunting and bringing game to sell. They also acted as the village's eyes and early emergency system.

The last person in the room was her granddaughter Paya. The girl was too young to take on the position as prospective leader of the village, but not young enough to not start watching and learning. She just wished the girl had a little more courage and didn't appear to be trying to melt away into the room's walls.

"I thank you for arriving this quickly." She spoke gently. "Without much delay I will move to the reason why I called for you three."

The three young Sheikah nodded.

"As you three were hunting before dawn, you must have seen the events in the night sky. I want to start by saying it wasn't the Calamity. The problem is that we don't know what it was, we only know something happened up there, and then something broke and rained all over Hyrule. One piece should have fallen close enough while the next should have fallen just off the coast past Lanayru Spring. I want to know if any of you saw something more."

The first to speak was Ommo. "I was nowhere near one of the landing sites, but I was on the edge of the wetlands and I could see one of the pieces fall slightly North. The Zora may have seen more."

"I was returning from the stables South," Suli offered, "the piece I watched fell further South, maybe South West, definitely past Lake Hylia."

Rasmon looked a bit unsure to speak, but he finally opened his mouth. "I was past the Horwell Bridge when I saw one of the pieces fall into the Bottomless Swamp."

Impa simply huffed, she had told the young man many times before he shouldn't hunt so far away. But he ignored her, as usual. Unfortunately, this time his disobedience was rewarded.

"Continue." She spoke.

"I managed to rush over before it sank beneath the surface," he retold, "it was like nothing I had seen before, as if a piece of a large ship had simply been cut off. But instead of wood it was made of metal and instead of being hollow, it was filled with more metal."

"What happened then?"

"It didn't sink instantly, that's the only reason I managed to get a good view of it. Instead it appeared to bury itself under the swamp willingly." The young man continued.

"Are you saying it was intelligent?" Dorian prompted.

"I don't know, sir. But the action certainly felt deliberate, as if it was hiding." Rasmon explained and quickly added a bit of nervousness. "And I'm pretty sure that if I hadn't been there to observe it, I doubt anyone would have ever learned of its presence."

Impa sighed softly, once more she wanted to berate the young man. But the Bottomless Swamp was infamous for a reason, not even the Calamity had seen to recover the guardians that had sunk to its depths. She doubted there was a way to recover the fallen object unless it came up under its own power.

"That's good enough for now, thank you three." She said and the three Sheika bowed slightly before turning and heading to the door. "Rasmon," the young man stiffened and turned back to her, "there's plenty of game on this side of the river. Also, get someone to sketch the piece you saw and have it delivered to me later."

He nodded and rushed out, making her sigh again, especially as Cado didn't hide his chuckle.

"You can't believe it's actually intelligent, right?" Dorian asked her.

She breathed in slowly before exhaling. "Most likely not like you or me, but would you say the Guardians are intelligent?" The man looked surprised before nodding. "It was definitely a machine, and it could think enough to recognize the situation and act accordingly."

"But really, a ship?" Cado chewed over.

"Who knows." She mused. "I know it wasn't accidental, it broke like it did for a reason. What do you think?" She aimed the last question to her granddaughter.

Paya stiffened and let out a soft squeak of surprise, Impa wondered if the girl even forgot she was there herself.

"I… I think that if it was a ship, then someone must have been sailing it. Maybe they are the ones that ordered it to hide…?"

Impa's eyes opened a bit more. "Oh… ho ho, well thought, granddaughter. If it was a ship, at least one person may have been inside. Given the size, even more than one is very possible." She turned to the two guards. "You can go for now."

The two nodded and saluted before stepping out, she stopped Paya when she started to head out too.

"Stay, I want to talk some more, granddaughter."

The young Sheikah woman nodded and took a spot in front of the elder.

"What do you think we should do next?" Asked Impa.

"I… I would check with the Zora first, if Ommo's right one of the pieces would have fallen just outside of their territory and one of them may have seen something." She answered slowly.

"Next?"

"Well… getting an answer from the Zora would take a day or so, most likely two or a bit more since going through the wetlands would be dangerous given the Lizalfos inhabiting the crossing of the Zora River." She explained. "If it took that long I would also have them go in pairs so one of them heads further North to check on the Goron at the base of Death Mountain."

"Why the bottom? And not have them head further up?" Her grandmother prompted.

Paya took a moment to think before speaking. "While those Goron up the mountain may have a better idea of where the pieces fell given the altitude, by the time our messenger arrives at the base of the mountain, gossip will most likely have reached those at the base. There's also the fact that we would need to have heat resistance elixirs given the high temperatures of Death Mountain."

"What about the Gerudo? or the Rito?" Impa asked next.

"Getting a messenger to them would take a couple of weeks easily. But I don't think reaching to the Rito will be necessary," the young girl saw her grandmother open her mouth, so she quickly rushed to add, "they are more likely to send someone first. Their ability to fly would make the travel time much shorter. Similarly I think it would be okay to leave it to them to contact the Gerudo while we exchange information with our side of Hyrule."

Impa nodded. "Well thought so far. But you're thinking only of the large settlements, you're forgetting a lot of people meet in the stables and gossip. While not all rumors are true, a smart Sheikah knows to parse gossip for the few useful nuggets. A lot more people than you think will have seen something and will have told others, especially travelers that arrive late at night or very early in the morning."

"I understand, grandmother."

"Good, now go. I'm sure you have chores to attend to." She spoke gently and watched as the young teen stood up and bowed deeply before leaving the room.

Impa took a moment for herself, wondering how much would this strange event change Hyrule, and the objective of those in the so-called ship.

For Magnus, the next few hours were spent just lazily walking. While he utilized his newly gained knowledge to identify things around, it was mostly noting things that looked good to eat and which he should stay away from, he didn't harvest anything that didn't look particularly worthy.

Honestly, outside of a couple more artichokes and a hard-headed mushroom, he had ignored everything else. Even the small game in the area, he would need to see to hunt something maybe later in the day for dinner. But at the moment he could do very well with what he had.

Honestly, the most interesting find was what appeared to be a moderately old and abandoned outpost, or at least a camping spot. The ground had been cleaned up pretty nicely and the dirt was obviously packed from people walking around, there were even marks of a fire pit having been used at the center of the area.

Though the most interesting bit was an old and weathered chest. It was basically a wood box, but the nails appeared to be made of iron and quite well made, pointing to a more medieval civilization if it still existed. The lid took a bit of force to pop open, most likely the humidity of the near sea had gotten the wood to swell and get stuck. Not that it stopped him, his fingers easily dug into the solid wood and popped it open to reveal its contents.

While what appeared to have once been dried meat was way past any edibility, there was a hand hatchet he would be taking, it would complement the two knives he grabbed from the storage back in the ship. And there was even a small palm-sized whetstone, most likely used to maintain the hatchet. There were also a handful of those magic crystals, mostly green ones, but there were a couple of blue and a red one.

Magnus guessed some sort of relation between the color and their worth, especially given the amount of each. Along with that a quick check showed the blue crystals to be slightly larger than the green and so was the red compared to the blue.

The last thing he found was a short sword in particularly good shape, it would need some love and care, but the whetstone would nicely help with that. Especially because he had seen some short and colorful people in the distance that the system had identified as monsters.

They were obviously not as dangerous as the giant, blue cyclops he had been shown, they were small and gremlin-like, barely under two meters tall and with a head the size of his chest and oversized ears to match.

With the sun reaching the zenith, Magnus decided the abandoned camp would be a good spot to stop and rest, for all intents and purposes he had spent all the time since he had left the ship trekking through the wild.

He started by collecting some sticks and wood along with some dry grass. The former two easily reduced to a useful size with his hands and the hatchet when they were too tough, the latter used to start the fire with the use of the fire starter and his knife. Quite quickly he had a nice fire going.

It was neither cold, nor hot. If Magnus had to guess, it was most likely either early Autumn or late Spring, most likely the latter given the amount of fruit and vegetables. But he honestly couldn't tell, he wasn't even sure if the world he was in had four seasons at all.

With such temperate weather, he sat a bit further away from the fire than he would in cold weather, especially as the spot he had chosen had some nice shade to keep himself away from the noon sun.

After a few minutes of watching the fire and feeding it a couple of larger pieces of wood, Magnus pulled a couple of the carrots from his backpack. It wasn't hard to clean them with a bit of the water he had in his canteens. Honestly, it wasn't like he was going to run out of water anytime soon, the two bottles apparently held much more than their size suggested. Not only that, but they would also purify even salt water into potable water in just a couple of minutes.

Unfortunately there were only two and the system had declared the knowledge behind their working to be classified behind his missing memories. The interesting thing was the fact that the system apparently knew how they worked, and he may have done so too.

It was a bit crude, but the carrots were thick enough that he could stab them on a sharpened stick and hold them over the fire to cook and char. Made him wish he had grabbed the pot he had seen earlier, but it was pretty large and solid, it would have most likely made him tired to carry around.

He also had the vague impression it wouldn't be the last time he found pots in the wild, but it would take time and experience. Watching the carrots cook gave him time to think.

"System, will this earn me another Wisp of Knowledge?"

"Unknown, but most likely not. The actions being carried are too basic."

The answer made him think. "So, if I instead collected more ingredients, grabbed the pot we saw and cooked a feast, would I earn one?"

"There's a big possibility that it's true. Though given incalculable propriety of User's Potential, User may need a teacher or extended application of said skill."

He could believe that. The single Wisp had been more than enough to allow him to live comfortably if he found civilization, going out, hunting, foraging and returning to sell his excess. And all it had taken was a couple of hours of inexperienced foraging? It was obvious that whatever overflowing or incalculable Potential he had had been partially used for the process, and most likely to finish the whole connecting thing too.

"Related question," he prompted as he pulled one of the carrots from the fire to check it out, placing it a bit farther away from the flames to keep it from burning, "can I improve on the Wisp of Knowledge by carrying similar or related activities?"

"Unknown, but highly possible. All Knowledge is connected, exercising one aspect of it may lead to new paths."

His mind quickly went back to the monsters he had seen, the knowledge he had acquired had nothing about them, but no one said there was no way to hunt and harvest useful things from them too. It would most likely be barbaric if they were sentient, so better to leave trying until he met other people and learned more of this world.

After a bit more, he pulled the carrots off the fire and allowed them to cool a bit before giving them a try. The hard root vegetable had become much softer, though it maintained a level of crunch when he bit in. It had also become much more sweeter, which paired interestingly with the charred skin.

The only problem was the sensation that cooking them this way had definitely lost some important quality of the vegetable. More to learn about once he found more people. Still, they were quite good, and two large carrots filled his stomach quite nicely as he placed an apple to cook next before grabbing the whetstone and turning his attention to the hand hatchet and the short sword.

He poured a bit of water from the canteen on the hatchet's blade and got to work. Both were impressively in good state for obviously having been left here for quite a long time.

Magnus washed and dried the hatchet before putting it away, unfortunately he lacked any type of linseed oil to finish the maintenance. Before starting with the sword, he retrieved the apple from the fire and cut it in half with the smaller of his knives to let it cool a bit. The skin had been thick and hard enough to keep all of the apple's juices inside and turned the flesh into a sweet paste, an excellent fireside dessert.

Even if it was mostly a treat, the cooked fruit gave him a little extra energy to tackle the sword. It turned out to be a bit harder than with the hatchet, the longer, straight blade required a steadier hand to work.

Even then, Magnus didn't find it too hard, and the slow, repetitive work helped him meditate. Mostly about himself. He may lack the skills, knowledge and memories to properly use it, but he could tell he was definitely above what a man of his size should be capable of.

He was strong, easily breaking wood with his bare hands and climbing the cliff side from the beach. He didn't get tired, he had walked for nearly four hours through rough terrain and he honestly could keep going, stopping for lunch just seemed logical. He could see far, very far, it hadn't been hard to see the ugly mugs of those red monsters from the distance. His hands were steady and his balance was near perfect.

Even without a proper benchmark, it was easy to see he had not been someone normal before losing his memories.

He ran some water down the sword's blade and wiped it dry before giving it a good look. Once more he was surprised by how well preserved it was, only a couple of chips here and there. It would be nice to have a proper weapon to protect himself.

Though… he now realized he had no idea how to utilize a sword, nor if he was ready to kill, even if he was hunting for game it would need him to make up his mind. Would his forgotten memories help him there, or would he need to get used to it?

He certainly felt no aversion to the idea of fighting, the weapon felt almost normal in his hand. But he lacked any knowledge of how to use it besides pointy end goes in your enemy.

Magnus stood up and held the sword in a hand. While he lacked the skill, it appeared his body remembered something at least, because his body easily fell into some kind of stance, his grip shifting just enough to hold the sword much more comfortably.

He let out a soft 'Uh' as he allowed his body to guide the movements, quickly going through some slashes, stabs and sweeps.

"I definitely knew how to do this." He mused as it felt like he should know more, but it was definitely part of the memories he was missing. "It's frustrating, still…"

He tried a few more times, the sword felt very comfortable in his grip, and it didn't take more than a minute or two before he had shifted the movements to take advantage of the sword's shorter size.

"I will need something a bit larger. Though no one's saying I can't try to master as many weapons as possible." He thought out loud and fixed the sword to his belt as he poured water onto the fire pit to make sure it was doused before mixing it with a large stick so there was no danger of restarting.

He put the hatchet on the side of his backpack and stored his knife after cleaning and drying it. Once he had everything, he heaved the pack back onto his back and once more resumed his trekking. The position he had taken gave him a nice view down a slope that appeared to end on a lagoon. It would be a good idea to refill his canteen even if he hadn't used that much water.

"System, I was thinking," he decided to voice his thoughts and maybe get some answers, "what language am I talking? And how will I communicate with the people here?"

"For the first question, User's speaking Universal. For the second question, System's equipped with a basic Understanding System that will allow User to communicate with most intelligent and willing beings."

"Universal? Understanding System?"

"Knowledge is sealed be-"

"Okay, okay, I understand, knowledge is sealed behind my missing memories. Anything you can tell me?" He interrupted the system and modified his question.

"Universal is a widely used language in User's originating World. The Understanding System will allow User to understand another intelligent being as long as they are willing to establish communication, the system can be turned on and off for ease of learning new languages."

That took a worry out of his back, being able to skip miscommunication would be nice.

His way down wasn't straight, the angle of the stones had forced him to head a bit North first before going back South and reaching the edge of the water. A quick test proved to be freshwater, so without much doubt, he dipped the canteen and allowed it to fill up.

It looked like the bottle actively sucked in water, so before long it was full again and the cap was once more in place. It would take a few minutes for the bottle to clear up the water, but after that it would be completely safe to drink. Not that he expected to find much, the water was practically transparent.

He could see a few fishes idling near enough he was tempted to try his hand at snatching them. There appeared to be two varieties, ones with blue scales that preferred to rest near the bottom, while the more active ones were more colorful, with yellow fins and bodies of red and pink. Outside of that, they were pretty identical, both types going from the size of his head to the size of his torso.

Besides the fishes, there were hand-sized crabs that were just as colorful, their large claws promised plenty of meat.

Honestly, there was no reason to grab any of the two, but he could certainly clean a fish to take with him for dinner. Gut it and descale it, maybe cut its head off, it was a shame, but he wasn't in the position to make soup with it.

The hairs on the back of his neck stood up before he heard the rustle nearby.

Magnus had jumped away from the shore before a suspicious patch of grass growing in the water suddenly popped up followed by a balloon-like octopus creature. A chunk of stone the size of his head flew by the spot he had occupied a moment before, the creature already back on the water by the time he had pulled his sword free.

His body unconsciously adopted a low profile posture as he waited, now that he observed the water better, the octopus monster was easy to spot. But that was because he knew where to look, the pattern of blues and grays actually disguised it quite well.

He was much more ready for the next attack, easily dodging the rock. Though now that he saw the projectile hit the ground, it appeared to be packed mud. The monster must be sucking in the bottom mud, compressing it before using it as a weapon.

The third and fourth projectiles were dodge, taking the time between attacks. The moment the monster came out for a fifth shot, he moved.

This time Magnus didn't dodge to the sides, instead going forward, rushing toward the water. He stopped just on the edge before he crouched and jumped up, his sword aimed down as he easily fell onto the monster, perfectly taking advantage of its blind spot right above its big, fat head.

His blade easily pierced the monster as it surfaced. It let out a loud squeal more akin to a deflating balloon. His feet then hit the water and easily balanced himself once they hit the shallow bottom.

The monster's corpse floated in front of him, the blue skin starting to turn black and flake away, releasing his blade and leaving what appeared to be some kind of flesh sack.

"That was… easier than I thought it would be." He mused.

Chapter 3

Venturing the Wild – 03

Magnus slowly waded back to the shore.

"Any idea what just happened?" He asked out loud as he prodded the strange, purple flesh balloon the monster had left behind.

"Monsters appear to be created from transmuted energy or miasma."

"And this thing?" He asked. "Is it safe to handle?"

"It appears that not every part of the monster dissipated when it died. Current scans are too crude to provide a complete study of the item."

"Then safe? Or should I try to burn it?" He asked once more as he looked for some sticks to put together a basic structure where he could hang his pants to dry.

"Most likely safe as long as User doesn't try to consume it."

He snorted as he pulled his boots off and placed them out to dry under the sun, his pants went next. He didn't expect anyone to see him in his underwear, and if anything the boxers he was wearing could pass as a swimsuit.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to try monster sea food." He turned to the water.

While the monster's actions had scared all fish and crabs, they were slowly returning. It was either a common occurrence, or they could tell the monster had been taken care of.

He also took a moment to check the rocks the monster had used to shoot at him, just as he suspected, they appeared to be mud, gravel and algae from the bottom of the lagoon. The only thing that surprised him was that it didn't compact it, instead it appeared some kind of slime mixed with the whole thing to keep it solid enough to be shot at its target.

Thankfully he was using a stick, because the slime was like glue and it only took a few prods for the stick to become part of the projectile.

He turned back to the flesh sack and carefully picked it up. Besides being still wet from having fallen into the water, it was very rubbery to the touch and had a few spikes on the top. Most of its surface was purple, turning into a light lilac near the mouth of the balloon.

His investigation revealed a harder spot inside the balloon, it felt strangely fragile, like a pocket of air stuck inside. All it took was some pressure for the spot to produce a sort of pop. The change was practically instant, the balloon started to suck-up air and heat up.

Magnus tried to hold it as it grew larger and larger, but when he started to feel his feet leave the ground, he finally let it go. Without his weight, it shot up a few dozen meters before it finally popped from inflating too much.

"Uh…" He could only say as he looked around, apparently whatever was left had dissipated like the rest of the monster's body. "Must be what allows it to suck up and blow. Weird biology."

With nothing left to show he had fought the monster outside of drying clothes, he sat on a dry patch of grass to wait. Once more he found himself thinking, at this rate he would turn into a philosopher or something.

Joking aside, Magnus was glad to not have found any aversion to killing the monster. It certainly had helped it had attacked first, removing any doubt of them being evil. It wasn't an animal protecting its territory, there had been no posturing, screaming or trying to make him leave, it had shot to kill and there had been no doubt about it.

The afternoon sun soon had his clothes dry, allowing him to dress once more and resume his trek, though just in case, he kept some distance from the shore itself. He remembered enough to know that following water should hopefully lead to civilization as people liked to settle near fresh water sources.

The walk was quite easy compared to the more uneven terrain further back, allowing him to look around and keep an eye for dangers while he moved South along the coast. At one point he was high enough to easily see the island at the center of the lagoon, while his attention was piqued by what looked to be an artificial flat and dark stone structure. But without a boat or raft, he was not swimming across as the sun was starting to go down.

Without a hurry to get anywhere, his trek along the lagoon soon stopped as the lagoon closed towards the East, meaning that he would be heading away from his objective of going back towards the sea.

Adding to that, the sun had passed the halfway point between the zenith and the horizon, and with the mountain chain to the West natural light would be disappearing quickly. Continuing the trek through unknown terrain in the dark was just silly, especially if there were monsters.

The first thing he took care of was to clean up the area and dig a small fire pit, having a source of light ready would make things much easier once night fell, it would also be nice if he didn't find himself rushing to set up a fire; once it was going it would be easy to kept fed.

After that he would try to catch one of the fishes swimming in the lagoon to add to his dinner before tackling the subject of a shelter.

Magnus knew night was coming and it would arrive much faster given the mountains. But the change of lighting was considerably more abrupt than he expected. The shadows suddenly extended and darkness swallowed the area even as the sky still looked quite bright, maybe because the sky was mostly clear and there were no clouds for the light to reflect down.

Thankfully he had prioritized the fire and it only needed to have a few more logs fed into it to make sure there was enough light. Not like it was that troublesome, the full moon was soon up in the sky, shining down like a silver copy of the sun.

He had also speared a couple of the fishes like those he had seen early, aiming to get one of each type too. This had been possible thanks to a wooden spear he had crafted with a straight branch he had acquired, with how clear the water was it turned to be child's play.

It had been easy then to cut, clean and fill them with mushrooms, carrots and peppers before placing them to cook over the fire. He was glad to have grabbed the portable cooking set from the storage; it was very lightweight and intuitive to set up. Though one of the most important things he had gotten from the storage was about half a kilo of salt, not only would it make his meals so much better when paired with the wild herbs that grew around, but he didn't doubt it should be able to sell or exchange it pretty easily.

Lastly there was his shelter… he may have gone a bit overboard.

"System, did I gain another wisp without realizing it?" He questioned out loud.

"User's correct, a Wisp of Knowledge centered on working with wood. It appears to have coupled correctly with the already available Wisp."

He could certainly see it, it wasn't just the understanding of carving, carpentry and other similar fields. But it had also combined with his wild survival knowledge to add lumberjacking, wood treating and bushcraft between other skills.

Just like the shelter he had put together.

Magnus had aimed to make a small tent, use the thermal blanket he had put in his backpack and set something up with the use of a number of sticks. Instead he had ended up constructing a reinforced lean to-style shelter large enough for him to sit inside comfortably. He had even packed the space between the logs with dirt and grass to close it well enough.

Honestly, putting this together in just under two hours was impressive if the little bit of knowledge that his first wisp had provided was right. There was also the fact that it wouldn't be too hard to reinforce it further and build it up into a proper house within a week or two if he wanted to settle in. Not like he would actually, or at least do it here without knowing if there was civilization close enough to make it worth it.

"Well, at least it's another useful skill." He mused, with just these two wisps he was pretty sure to live comfortably for quite a long time.

He knew how to work with wood in practically all of its forms, if being a hunter didn't suit him, he could just as easily be a carpenter. There was sure to be a need for more of those. Plus he understood how to work with wood efficiently, not only wasting as little as possible, but easily working twice as fast as a normal carpenter with the same quality of work.

Before his thoughts went for too long, a sigh escaped his lips. "There's no need to think so far ahead," he mumbled to himself, "better take things one step at a time, and right now a meal would be the most useful."

Magnus sat down and uncovered the pot hanging from the fire. Instantly he had to pull back as a shiver of excitement ran through his body as the deep perfume of his soon-to-be meal assaulted his senses; it practically screamed at him to be eaten. So without much fanfare, he filled his plate with one of the two fishes and dug in.

Time lost all of its meaning as he realized he had just licked the last of the flavor from his fingers. He had eaten both fishes, all the vegetables and drank the remaining juices. He had eaten the fishes from head to tail, the spines showing absolutely no problem, he may have even eaten the scales and guts if he knew better.

"I hope that won't be a problem in the future." He spoke out loud in a good mood. The meal was fantastic and only the basic cooking set up kept it from being a chef's worth meal.

He sighed softly as his ears caught the sounds of multiple hard things clacking together. The strong moonlight allowed his eyes to find the source, skeletons were wandering closer, most likely attracted by the fire.

There was little doubt they were monsters, not only they appeared to be fleshless versions of the goblin monsters he had seen at noon, but a dark, purple miasma that reminded him of the dissipating octopus monster.

"Some exercise sounds like a wonderful thing after such a meal." Excitement bleeding into his voice as he grabbed the sword and fishing spear.

He wished he had a shield with him, it looked like some of the skeletons were armed with rusted weapons. But he wasn't going to use the pot's lid, that would ruin it, meaning he would need to parry and dodge as much as possible. At least it would be good training.

The only problem was the apparent growing numbers of skeletons coming, he hoped he could sleep tonight.

The Yiga scout rushed into the room, stopping a few meters away from their leader. He had rushed all day long, even ran a wild horse nearly off a cliff to arrive at the Yiga Clan's hideout in the highlands to the North of the Gerudo Desert.

"Who interrupts my rest?" A voice boomed from behind the screen with the Yiga crest.

"A lowly scout, Master Kohga." They answered deferentially. "I bring important information I believe will be of great interest to the clan."

Two small explosions echoed one after the other and the leader of the Yiga clan appeared in front of the scout. His pear-shaped form and almost slovenly presence hid the fact that the masked man had kept his clan alive the last one hundred years, slowly rebuilding their power bit by bit. They had even stolen the Thunder Helm from the Gerudo village.

"I will be the judge of that fact," he said offhandedly as he scratched his neck, "now speak."

"Yes Master Kohga." The scout bowed. "I was patrolling the Lanayru Highlands, just East of the Horon Lagoon when the sky break incident happened." They quickly retold their experience of the events, maybe going into one too many details because it was obvious their leader's patience was running thin, making the scout rush ahead. "...and that was when I observed the large object float to the beach, after a bit a man stepped out."

Those words brought Kohga to a stop. "Continue."

"He was of average height, well built, his skin tanned, only a bit lighter than that of the Gerudo." They explained as they retrieved a parchment from their pack and handed it over. The scout's glad to be a passable artist. "The most striking figure was the color of their hair, a purple like that of the Swift Violet's flowers."

Their leader took the drawing and looked at it. "Interesting… very interesting…" He hummed and hammed. "So you say they were alone?"

The scout simply nodded.

"I would need to look at the maps, but there's not many directions they could have headed. They either found a way to cross into the Zora domain, got killed by the monster to the South or headed in the direction of those despicable traitors living in Kakariko Village." The poison dripped from his tone.

A soft cough broke the man from his spiral into a tantrum, making him turn towards a Blade Master. The scout stiffened in fear at their presence, there just weren't many Blade Master remaining from before the Great Calamity, Maus was one of them.

There were few who knew just how old the master was, rumors said he had trained Blade Master Sooga himself. For all intents and purposes, he only came out of his seclusion to test all of those that wanted to attain the ranking of Blade Master or to act as counsel for Master Kohga. The fact that he was present didn't fare well, or at least the scout didn't feel it would for them.

"Young Master Kohga, I imagine you would understand that it's not every day that a traveler from the stars arrives in Hyrule." His voice was soft and calm. But to the scout it felt like a silk-wrapped blade pressed against their neck.

"A traveler from the stars? Next you will tell me the sky kingdom is returning! Bah!" Kohga said and waved the sketch around. "Those are nothing but stories, they were old when I was a baby, and- Hey!"

The man screamed and complained as Maus was suddenly holding the sketch, his body hadn't moved a centimeter from his position. Not that the scout could tell, they had maintained a respectful bow and their eyes on the ground.

"Hmm… you, scout, what's your name?" The question made them stiffen up.

"I'm Ayim, Blade Master Maus."

"Blade Master? Ha! I feel like I'm too old to carry that title. Look at me, Ayim." The voice was gentle, but the scout couldn't help but straighten and turn in the Blade Master's direction.

Their back stiffened as they saw the man's impressive figure, standing tall and proud and… their eyes itched as the figure broke away as if it had never been there to begin with.

"Oh… ain't that interesting." Maus mused softly, his tone didn't change, but when it had come previously from the tall Yiga member, it now was sourced from an almost child-like figure. If it wasn't for their wrinkled skin.

Maus turned to Kohga. "This one has potential, Young Master Kohga, I request you to appoint this scout under me. If there's a traveler from the stars in Hyrule I want to be prepared for it."

The Yiga leader's attention had long since wandered to something else." ...oh? Sure, sure… just remember to keep me updated on what-" he yawned, "-decide to do and find."

With a poof of smoke the Yiga disappeared, leaving Ayim alone with the ancient master.

"Who would have thought that something like this would happen before the swordsman awoke," the ancient master thought to himself, "nevermind. Follow me, Ayim. I doubt we'll be able to stop the traveler from making contact with the Sheikah. But nothing says we can't change their allegiance in the future."

The scout could only follow, wondering if this was punishment for lazying by the Lanayru Sea.

Magnus breathed in deep, his body felt cold even after so much activity. He had found that even as hostile as the skeleton monsters were, they were similarly fragile; one hit was enough to make them fall apart. Unfortunately it had taken him quite a bit longer to realize that reducing them to loose bones wasn't enough to kill them, and their large numbers had kept the fact that they were putting themselves back together hidden.

On a much brighter note, he had learned that the meal he had consumed had some extraordinary properties, because his skin had been as tough as rock against his enemies' blades and weapons. So while he wasn't in immediate danger, he lacked the knowledge of how long the effect would last, and getting mobbed sounded like a bad way to die.

Thankfully once he had realized that all he needed to do was destroy their fragile skulls, his night turned much easier. There was still a legion of them, but they didn't attack his belongings, nor his fire, leaving him free to fight against them.

Midway through the night he stopped using his sword after it got chipped, instead preferring to take the re-deceaded monster's abandoned weapons. And while many broke during the fight, by dawn he had not only formed a pile of them, but also gained experience with clubs, bats, swords, spears, shields and even bows.

It was mostly trash. The clubs, bats and spears were barely crude wood sticks and logs. The sword and a number of spears rusted nearly thoroughly. The shield's just a piece of hardwood. And the bows were barely holding themselves together, the fragile strings more than once snapping when he tried using them.

If the skeletons weren't as weak as moist paper towels, his night may have been pretty different. Still, the first rays of the sun caressed the sky, softening the dark firmament and making the stars disappear.

The strangest thing through the night, is that he wasn't feeling tired. If anything, he was still feeling quite energized, albeit quite hungry.

"System, any reason why I'm not feeling tired?" He asked a moment later when his breath had returned to normal. Now if he could dry himself just as fast, maybe a bath in the water would do him good.

"System can only confirm that User's body is above average."

He scoffed. "There is above average, and there's fighting all night long." He rolled his eyes.

The silence was telling.

"Nothing?" He tried as he checked the fire, adding some more wood into it, and by logs it was some of the crappy wooden weapons.

"User should acquire a Job."

"Oh? And how should I go at that? Because as far as I understand, I can't just employ myself and say I've a job." He replied sarcastically as he started to strip and wash his clothes.

"User misunderstands." Magnus raised an eyebrow. "Part of the System allows the User to take a Job they are qualified for. User's possible Job list is-"

"Wait, wait, wait, before you go into what I'm pretty sure will be a long list, explain jobs better." He corrected the system.

"Jobs will provide an active correction to User's skills and a minor, passive correction to User's body. Qualifications for a Job may vary from holding a certain amount of knowledge to repeating an action a set number of times."

"Okay, I think some of those jobs are better than others? Okay, give me the best five jobs I've available." He didn't give the system time to answer before requesting the last part.

"User's top five available jobs are: Woodworker, Warrior, Hunter, Traveler, Lesser Forger."

He hung his clothes to dry by the fire before heading back to the water to clean the sweat off his body. "I can understand the first four, but what does Lesser Forger mean?"

"Information Unavailable."

He sighed as he worked on himself. The first three would be very useful, maybe not immediately, but would certainly help in the long term once he found civilization. Traveler sounded more immediately useful, but it wasn't like he was having many problems at the moment. The last one…

He walked out of the water and sat by the fire as he looked into his pack to see what he could eat. Unfortunately the pots were still dirty from the night before as he had spent every minute of it fighting, meaning he ended up grabbing one of the meal bars he had grabbed from the storage.

While a bit lazy, some food going down into his belly made his mind turn back to the last available job. It was a gamble, but it was also very obviously connected with his past, and while he doubted it would reveal much, it may as well be the only clue going forward.

"Will I be able to change the job later on?" He questioned.

"User can change Jobs at any time. User should be warned, Jobs need time to work effectively, changing them frequently will result in zero growth. Only exception when equipped Job is replaced by a related, higher ranked Job."

To him it sounded quite logical, if the Jobs offered 'corrections' they needed time to work, the more you were 'corrected' in your skills, the better you were at it. Though honestly Magnus found the term weird. The second part wasn't hard to see if he had access to a Job denominated Lesser.

Before answering he grabbed the dirty dishes from the night before and headed to wash them in the water. It was mostly him delaying things, but still necessary. Once he was done, he set them to dry by the fire before testing his clothes. As they were dry enough, he dressed once more.

"Okay, I will take Lesser Forger." He finally decided.

"User's Job has been set as Lesser Forger. Wisps of Knowledge renamed Perks. Minor Coordination Improvement, Minor Learning Improvement, Minor Magic Improvement."

He looked down at himself, even repeatedly opened and closed his fists.

"Well, I don't feel too different. I guess the whole thing about being a long-term investment is a thing, I will have to wait and see." The most curious thing about the Job was honestly the fact that the Wisps of Knowledge had been renamed.

Looking at the sun slowly rising in the horizon, Magnus decided that maybe a short nap before picking his camp up was a good idea. While he wasn't tired, he had spent all night fighting. He didn't see any other monsters around and the skeletons didn't appear to come up during the day after all.

He stretched his thermal blanket in the shelter he hadn't used yet and laid down. Just in case he kept the good sword close by before closing his eyes. He would need to forage some more for a lunch before trekking the rest of the day, hopefully he would find another good spot for camping later.

Interesting, BOTW is a big deal right now with talks of how they plan to do a live action film.

. . . . . Live... Action... Breath Of The Wild?

Wut.

No, seriously, what? Unless they skip everything but the main quest; and, really, skip all dialogue. There's no way to compress that game into a two hour time chunk. With just the basic main quest dialogue, it might come in under two hours twenty minutes. Add anything else will just make it longer. Even just a single, inconsequential short quest, would probably add another 15 to 20 minutes. Never mind any of the main story supporting side quests. To do all the supporting side quests, they'd either have to risk two 2 hour 40 minute films (plus credit time) Or include some of the slice of life side quest/Easter eggs quests, and make three 2 hours 20 minute films (plus credit screens) As a bare minimum to cover the story. And this is before Tears Of The Kingdom. Which, I'm given to understand is actually more lore heavy, than action sequence; and nearly half again as long as the previous game it's a sequel to. Meaning at least another three 2 hour 40-50 minute films, or a whopping seven 2 hours 15-20 minute films. I mean, if they did it right, they could milk this two game bit for a good five to seven years. But movies are all about short intense action sequences with little in the way of nuances. Anything other than a dedicated effort at the whole story, is just going to drive game sales down. And anything that tries to actually tell the story, is going to drive the movie sales down. There's... really not any great in between for this.

{edit}You'd have more luck telling a complete Skyward Sword Live Action, with all the plot points as a 3 hour 30 minute film. And even then, it'd have enough room to actually be split into two 1 hour 50 minute films (thereabouts) without unduly bogging down the lore, or breaking the story flow.

*Snip*

Personally I don't think a LA of BotW is a good idea, it can be done, but it has to kinda ignore the game and play in the setting. I also think it should follow an original interpretation of the setting and not be restricted by the usual mechanics (multiple dungeons).

The problem with TLoZ is that it's too well known but not well known enough they can't skip the set up. honestly they should do a two parts with light on the details outside of presenting the characters and the world. Though I doubt it will be too good to begin with given the expected people going into writing and directing.

Still, I don't think this is the place to discuss this and there must be a proper thread for it.

Chapter 4

Venturing the Wild – 4

Awakeness came to Magnus instantly. One moment he had been deep asleep and completely relaxed, the next his eyes were open and all signs of sleep had evaporated like a drop of water dropped into a fire. He quickly took stock of himself as he sat up. It wasn't a shot of adrenaline or a sense of danger that woke him up, he simply had slept enough and now he wasn't asleep anymore.

The system told him he had slept for just two hours, so it was still quite early and the sun hadn't risen too far from the horizon yet. Without much trouble he stood up and decided to search for some breakfast, which quickly turned to be a small fish he cooked directly over the fire, and some berries from a few bushes. From his understanding, he would need to add carbohydrates to his diet, most likely some kind of cereal grew in the area, or maybe nuts of some kind.

With some food in his stomach, he proceeded to put out the fire, so close to the water he doubted the fire would be much danger, or even survive for too long. But he wasn't taking chances, especially when it was as easy as pouring water from a few meters away into the pit. He then packed everything back into his backpack and turned to the pile of weapons.

It was practically all trash, crude and rusted weapons, making him glad to have found the short sword for personal protection. He then turned to the shelter, it had definitely been overdone, but the little he had used he had thanked it..

With his backpack back in place, he looked around, he had two options now, he could head further South along the coast, or try to go up the slope to the East.

Since he could see much further along the coast than up the slope, Magnus started walking South.

Ommo crossed the Great Zora Bridge on foot. He and Suli had to travel around the wetlands when they had found the Lizalfos were active and patrolling; the fallen pieces must have gotten them riled up. The two of them had gone separate ways just before the Inogo Bridge as Suli would be heading into Goron Territory.

The detour had stretched their travel time considerably and had forced them to set up camp during the night. Strangely enough there had been no sight of Stalkoblins or other monsters.

Once dawn had come, the pair had continued their trek till they had to go different ways, and that was pretty much it for Ommo's last twenty hours. The sinuous way up the river had him cross paths with Zora multiple times, so his arrival was expected. What he didn't expect was the sudden splashing sound and a tall figure to appear in his way.

Ommo didn't show it, but instantly was ready to fight the over three meters tall predator. Only his training had kept him from showing it as the red and white Zora looked down at him.

"A ha! I knew it! You're the messenger from Kakariko Village, right?" Ommo hadn't finished nodding before the Zora was practically steamrolling ahead. "You must have come to discuss the matters of the star falls-"

"That's right, prince Sidon." He interrupted the very energetic Zora. "Maybe we should move? The bridge's not a good place to discuss these matters."

Sidon reacted surprised to the point. "You're right! And so rude of me, I'm Prince Sidon and you must be the Ommo from Kakariko village. Follow me, my father and Muzu are already waiting for us."

The young Sheikah hunter didn't sigh, it was only because the normal exuberance of the prince was known quite well that his attitude hadn't surprised him, too much. He had to rush his steps a bit to keep up with the prince's longer legs.

"You saw them?" Sidon prompted as they approached the settlement.

Ommo looked up. "You mean the pieces? I only saw them fall, I suspect I observed the one fall just outside your territory to the North of the Wetlands. Another Sheikah had a much closer encounter with one when he followed it over to the Bottomless Swamp." He said. "It sank under its surface and I doubt anything will be able to bring it out."

"Hmm… interesting. The piece you first talked about did indeed fall near here, in the valley to the West. Only one of the guards managed to catch sight of it before it buried itself into the solid ground." Sidon explained how they had tried to uncover it, but it was much deeper than they expected and the attempt was considered a failure.

He then continued speaking. "There was a second piece that fell to the East." Ommo nodded, indicating he knew which one they were talking about. "That piece fell on the Lanayru Sea, but instead of sinking it floated to a small beach. One of our guards found it along with signs of someone- Oh, we're here!"

The Sheikah wanted to complain about the interruption, but it was true they had also arrived at the Zora's throne room. Different from the almost conservative room Lady Impa used in Kakariko, this room was large and magnificent, he momentarily wondered if Hyrule's castle throne room had once been like this.

"King Dorephan." He saluted.

"Oh ho ho, no need for so much formality young Sheikah, I take Lady Impa sent you?" The titanic Zora's voice boomed in the large, open chamber.

"Yes, the elder sends her regards along with-" As he pulled the copy of the sketch they had made from the piece Rasmon had seen, Sidon interrupted him.

"You won't believe it, father, one of their own saw another of the pieces land. Unfortunately it did so in the Bottomless Swamp." The prince just went on. "Excuse me," he spoke softly as he took the sketch on Ommo's hand and looked at it, "just like I suspected! Look father, it appears both of the pieces would go together, I wonder why?"

Ommo coughed softly. "Lady Impa believes it's some kind of ship." He offered.

"Hmm…" King Dorephon hummed as he looked at the drawing carefully, it looked tiny in the royal Zora's hand. "I can see how it would be, but a ship made of metal?"

Sidon laughed. "Oh, that reminds me of Lady Purah's experiments with the Guardians," his tone softened for a moment before returning to his more boisterous self, "she had found that a bowl-shaped platform could float on the water, even when carrying those machines."

"That may be, but this ship fell from the skies, son." The King spoke before turning pensive. "That reminds me of an old story."

"Old stories?" Ommo prompted.

Prince Sidon nodded and answered for his father. "They are old stories, bedtime stories and memories of those that were old when I was but a kid. Travelers of the Sky, Star Swimmers, Celestial Explorers, they had many names. But it's said they came from high above Hyrule, the stories change depending on who tells them, sometimes they helped set up the Hyrule Kingdom, sometimes they are just passing by, sometimes they come to ask for help, and there are even ones where they come to conquer us all."

Ommo's eyes opened wide. "But if they come to conquer-"

Prince Sidon raised a hand. "I don't believe they are here for that, just one ship that broke down in the sky? I'm more afraid of them running away from someone than them being here to conquer us." He said before turning away and rubbing his chin. "Though if they are running from someone, then that could be a-"

"That's enough, my son." Prince Dorephan spoke once more. "Don't worry, young Sheikah, I don't believe they are here to become a threat. But if they are a traveler from the stars, then they will bring change in one way or another."

Ommo nodded and listened as the king continued speaking.

"Now, as my son may have told you, we found the landing spot of another piece in the Lanayru Sea by the Talua Plateau. There were signs of someone trekking up the beach, but our scout couldn't follow them up and instead returned to update us on what he found. We're pretty sure they are walking in the direction of the wetlands as I doubt many would try to climb the mountains."

The Sheikah nodded. If he remembered right, from the Plateau one would walk West to the Horon Lagoon, Brynna Plains, Lanayru Bay, Samasa Plain and then up to the Rabia Plain before reaching the West Gate.

"Then I will need to return and inform Lady Impa about it." He said actively.

"Calm down, young Sheikah. One more minute here won't change things, and we've set a patrol through the Samasa Plain to hopefully intercept them. Even then, Prince Sidon will accompany you down the river and help you through the Wetlands."

The younger Zora grinned and posed. "Don't worry, young Sheikah, we'll be back in Kakariko Village before you know it!"

For some reason, Ommo felt a small shiver, and it wasn't the shark-like teeth of the Zora prince.

"Good travels and fresh water for you, young Sheikah." King Dorephan said as Ommo found Prince Sidon practically dragging him away.

The last he saw was a knowing smile on the old king's face, making him a bit more worried. Before he knew it, they were standing by the bridge he had come through.

"Just remember, hold on tight." Sidon said.

And Ommo only allowed a very intelligent. "Uh-" Before the tall Zora had pulled him along and jumped down into the water.

The surprise didn't end there as he found the need to grab onto the Prince's shoulder as this started to swim down the current at an impressive speed. He could see how they would take a mere fraction of the time it took him to arrive… if he survived.

Magnus' walk was uninterrupted for the next few hours. Outside of keeping an eye for some supplies, he mostly just enjoyed the views. The surprise came towards noon when he found another chest half-hidden in the bushes.

While the previous one appeared to be a hunter's stash, this appeared to have been owned by a fisherman as inside he found a roll of fishing line, lures, a lure and, the most surprising, a shield with a fish painted on its face.

It was quite a basic wooden shield, a number of planks held together by a metal rim. If he remembered right it was too big to be a buckler, but too small to be a small shield. Magnus was still taking it, having a shield, even an old one like this would make him feel considerably more safe if he got attacked at night. He just wished he had some tools to properly treat and reinforce it, because if the night was like the previous, it wouldn't survive till morning.

He stored the rest of the objects back in the chest and pushed it back into place, he made a note in his system to replace the shield in the future if he could. If not for the person that put it there, then for the next person that finds themselves needing a bit of extra protection.

He hung the shield from his backpack and resumed walking. The ground was flat and solid enough that it was actually quite easy and he was making good time West. And while he would have stopped by noon to see about preparing some lunch, the reason turned out to be the presence of a primitive monster camp.

Different from the free roaming red goblin monsters, these had constructed very crude wooden palisades around their camp and even a couple of watchtowers. Only the fact that he could see the watcher deep asleep on his tower had kept him from being spotted.

Not wanting to test his luck, Magnus quickly moved off the beach and behind some vegetation. He was close enough to get a good view of the monsters, they were as ugly as the first time he had seen them. And now that he was close enough, and not fighting, he could feel the energy that composed them; it was a strange cold and dry sensation on his skin.

He counted three around the fire, a fourth on the tower and finally a much larger one with an elongated face ending in a pig's snout and a big horn on its head. Its posture made it a bit hard to catch full sight of its features, but it was obvious it was a monster with a long reach, and if the spear by its side was an indication, it would be quite dangerous to attack head on.

Fortunately, he didn't need to attack them head on, he had the element of surprise on his side and it didn't appear they were even paying much attention to anything. It may very well be the fact that they had eaten if the signs around the camp were correct.

The most interesting thing from the whole camp, besides a chest decorated like a skull, was a pile of red barrels. He didn't want to think those were explosives, but could be just some cheap alcohol that would be inflammable enough to add to his advantage. Of course that meant getting into the camp and close enough to the possibly explosive barrels.

Magnus wished at least one of the bows had survived the night, and maybe a few arrows, but they all had been very cheap and poorly maintained. He could have improvised a fire arrow with some cloth and the alcohol from his first aid pack.

Thinking about it, he may be able to do that with the fishing spear, it would be a waste of a good spear to keep the distance, but if he moved to get the barrels between the monsters and himself and then lured them over, he could hopefully trigger them as they came close enough.

With some plan put together, Magnus moved downwind before crafting his throwing spear, aka the spear with the alcohol-soaked rag. For a few minutes of work, he was pretty sure he could have used it to fight, but one stone and two birds and all that.

He hid his backpack after grabbing the sword and shield, and then moved into position.

"Hey!" He screamed out loud.

It took a moment for them to look in his direction, but once they did, the monsters all went feral. Screaming unintelligible, his whole Understanding thing was failing at getting anything but senseless screaming,

While he had to dodge the arrows shot by the goblin on the small tower, the distance made it easy to take his time as he lit the spear and prepared. His suspicions about the barrels was more or less cleared when the larger monster reached to grab one of them, and it was enough for Magnus to enact his plan.

Some not forgotten muscle memory took over as he launched the spear forward, perfectly stabbing it on one of the barrels at the feet of the larger monster. Thankfully the ignition took a second, long enough for the other three others to reach him before whatever was inside caught fire and proceeded to explode.

Magnus made a mental note to find what exactly was in those barrels because the explosion was massive, like strong enough to almost throw him back by the sheer shockwave. The three small goblins didn't survive it, their bodies already dissipating into those black and purple flakes as the larger one seemed to be lasting a bit more, through the fire it had been set on would finish it. This only left the one back on the watchtower for him to deal with.

Even while rushing, it seemed the monsters couldn't feel fear, because all it did was keep shooting its arrows at him. The large one didn't survive to swipe at him before Magnus snatched the spear it had been using and threw it at his last target.

Once more he was mildly surprised by his strength as the rusted metal pole flew true and ended the goblin with a head shot, its body breaking away as it hit the ground.

"That was much easier than I expected…" He mused and looked at the destruction he had caused.

The pile of barrels was now a small, smoking crater, the fires long since extinguished by a lack of fuel. The palisades near it had fallen apart, and the ones a bit further were barely surviving. The fire in the pit was still going and a few boxes that he hadn't paid attention to before had broken, revealing they had some stuff inside he would need to check.

He gave one more look around to make sure there was no danger before he approached the chest. Close inspection revealed that the skull that had covered it was some kind of seal or something, because it was flaking off just like the monsters did. It put into question why the monsters had a chest with them, it was pretty obvious they hadn't tried to open it.

If anything it appeared they had found it and decided to base their camp around it. Was it some kind of monster ritual? Would filling the chest with riches and leaving it outside would have monsters spawn and claim it?

Different from the chests he had found before, this one appeared to be of much better quality, just to start the surface was reinforced with metal and had handles to each side. And while it had a lock, it appeared to have already been broken before he easily popped the top up.

The rewards were also considerably larger. The first thing that caught his eyes was a large, purple crystal, definitely a larger variation of the ones he had found. Next was an actual gemstone, even in its obvious unpolished state, the red facets were quite beautiful when they caught the sunlight. The final thing that caught his eye was a handful of arrows, which appeared to be professionally made as the little he knew about arrows told him they would fly quite well.

There were also a few pots of what appeared to once have been spices or similar, but they hadn't survived. He wondered if it was a side-effect of being so close to the evil energy sources. It didn't matter, the beautiful bottles' corks had popped off and the content had turned into a sludge. He was tempted to try and clean them to keep the bottles, but decided it wasn't worth the effort.

He made a mental note about making a bow sometime soon, the two perks he had gave him enough understanding to be able to put together a pretty sturdy one. In addition he had more than enough strength for the pull. Though he would need something for the cord, maybe he should see about hunting some game for their meat and sinews.

While he could see about crafting a new spear, the monster's bow and arrows had been left laying on the ground. They were intact enough he trusted them for half a dozen shots, that should be enough to hunt even a deer if he so felt like it.

A random thought made him bring up the system's perk window. There were still the only two he had acquired, the one related to foraging and living in the wild, and the other that covered all types of wood working.

"I didn't get any perks from all that I did?" Magnus prompted. "Not bothered by it, just surprised."

"User has not carried enough actions related to a single subject to acquire a new Perk."

"So I should-"

"Given User's Job, he has access to a list of those Perks he can work for."

He gave the system's holographic representation a look, wondering why it had interrupted him like that. Though there was still no emotion on the voice, and maintained the completely neutral tone, making it hard for him to measure if it was on purpose or just a delay.

He decided to delay requesting the list, instead he started to work towards lunch. He still felt peckish for some carbohydrates, so he pulled one of the instant rice packs he had taken with him and prepared it with some of the mushrooms and peppers he had foraged during his walk.

Once he had it going, he sat down and looked through the system's menus.

The list was much larger than he expected, but apparently it was because it listed even the most nebulous perks he could acquire given the actions he had taken, and many did not even had an approximation of how many times or what he would need to do to acquire them.

Things like space ship repair, environment reconstruction, upgrading weapons and monster biology sounded cool. But none of them even had a progress percentage, indicating he would need to either do a ton more, or find things that were more efficient.

"System, from now on don't show any perk, unless I request them specially, that I've not at least a one percent of progress achieved," and just like that the list was cut by over ninety percent, "can't be acquired at the moment," half of the remaining vanished, "or… no, that's it."

The result was a much more manageable list, and even then most of them were barely breaking the one percent of progress. The biggest two were about cooking and… explosives.

Magnus turned to the still smoking crater, he could see why.

Since he was pretty sure he would end acquiring the cooking perk sooner or later, he turned his attention to the third on the list with great curiosity, working with monster parts. He had studied the balloon dropped by the octopus, in a manner of speak. He hadn't checked if the skeletons had dropped anything, his mind mainly focusing on surviving the night. But now he was safe, meaning he got up from his spot and went to check the spots he remembered the monsters having died.

His search revealed a small pile of horns and teeth. Four nubby horns and a long one along with one fang from the large monster and five teeth from the small ones. Unfortunately outside of looking at them, there was little to nothing he could do with them, they didn't respond to any external stimuli like the balloon, and he wasn't going to try to do anything that would break them at the moment.

Maybe if he had been able to straighten the long one he could have used it to craft a spear, it certainly was hard and sharp enough to do the job. But he lacked the tools to do so, so his pot was too small to fit inside and start the softening process, after that he would need to construct a proper stand to brace and hold the horn straight till it hardened.

Thankfully he could take them with him and study them better in the future.

A small ding from the system informed him the food should be ready, so Magnus put the monster bits away and sat by the fire again. While he hadn't been too hungry to start, the smell that assaulted his nose when he revealed the food certainly fanned the flames.

As he dug in with gusto, he was much more conscious about the effect the food was having on him, apparently the ingredients in this world could have extraordinary effects. He wondered if the perk related to food would give him an insight on them.

Chapter 5

Venturing the Wild – 5

Once Magnus finished cleaning, drying and storing his belongings, he resumed his trek. He was slowly falling into a nice routine, though he hoped to find people sooner rather than later.

Pack back in place, he started to walk West. He could see that his plans to follow the water would be impossible, a large rocky structure cut his path, thankfully there was some kind of large passage in the rock. He wondered if it was artificial, but he was too far away to see any signs of it.

The way to the cave was slow as he was going uphill as he moved away from the lagoon. There was also an increased vegetation variety, he once more found a few pepper plants and berry bushes, even a few apple trees and a few new types of edible mushrooms. He hadn't expected to find truffles in this weather, which meant he was exceptionally lucky.

All in all, it took him a bit over three hours to get from the spot he had lunch, the destroyed monster camp, to the start of the peculiar passage on the rock. He was close enough to see that it indeed turned into a tunnel further ahead, and no, he didn't see any signs of it having been made artificially.

"System, do you have some kind of mapping feature?" He asked as he surveyed the area before starting his trek through the small valley.

"System does have a very basic mapping feature, it collects information from User's senses to build a projection of his surroundings."

A screen popped up showing the path he had taken from the coast to his current spot.

"Is there a reason why there's so much more shown around the ship's spot?"

"The ship's basic scans allowed the System to gather additional information."

Magnus didn't stop walking as he reached for the screen and tapped on the window, zooming down upon a couple of spots marked as dangerous. He blinked as he saw the blue giant lazing in the same clearing, but what surprised him more was the other monster.

Magnus practically felt the danger it presented, and it wasn't just that it looked like the bestial mix of a centaur, a lion and a tank made of muscles. Though he wouldn't be calling him a beast to his face.

It was obvious the being was much more intelligent compared to the monsters he had killed. It showed by how his armor and weapons were made from metal and perfectly fit for his size and body, or by how the camp, while bare, was well kept and held all they needed.

He wondered if there was a tribe or settlement of them out there somewhere.

"Is this live?" He asked.

"System confirms that the feed is live."

"Uh…"

It was nice knowing that he could keep an eye on the danger they presented, though he worried a bit once he had to move the ship's piece. Maybe looking into how to develop something to replace those scanners or improve on them. He doubted it would be anything he could work anytime soon, but it felt correct to set up some future projects to work up to.

As he approached the tunnel, light dimmed quickly as the sun's position hid it behind the rocky ceiling. What surprised him was a small sensation in his eyes and the darkness lightened, allowing him to see in the darkness as he stepped into the tunnel.

"System, are you modifying my vision?" Magnus asked.

"Negative, this is a physiological response of User's body."

"You mean my body does this naturally? Why didn't I notice before?"

"User was not exposed to such extreme changes of light."

He easily remembered how easy it was for him to see during the previous night, maybe it wasn't just because the moon was full. Just another curiosity about himself.

Another thing Magnus noticed was a lonesome flower growing by the tunnel's entrance. It had sprouted from between a couple rocks, a bright green stalk that ended in a bright yellow flower. It would have been a very nice sight, if the flower wasn't giving him a strange combination of sensations between natural and fake, or well, maybe it was better to call it a lie.

"System, do you read any kind of evil energy?" He asked, wanting a second opinion since he couldn't feel anything out of the ordinary.

"System fails to read any kind of unnatural energy in the area."

Unfortunately, that wasn't too reassuring, without the space ship's scanners, the system appeared to only be capable of scanning through his senses.

Deciding that it required some closer observation, the young man approached the strange flower. Though he didn't got closer than a couple of meters before the flower popped like a balloon, letting out a small cloud of smoke and a sparkling sphere that flew deeper into the cave.

A childish curiosity drew Magnus to follow it, not like he wasn't already going to travel through the tunnel, he simply made sure to approach the flower each time he found it, causing it to escape further ahead.

It turned into a small distraction through his trek, the accompaniment of the wind running through and the water drops falling from the ceiling's stalactites. But soon it came to an end, the tunnel was a few kilometers long, but the way was flat enough to only need some care to not slip on the few pools of water or damp, slimy patches of moss.

The sight of sunlight was welcomed, not just by him, but also for the flower which appeared to bloom even brighter. This time it didn't pop till he was just at its side and instead of flying away, the sparkling sphere shot up and revealed some kind of wooden doll with a leaf mask; it even had a small musical fanfare that appeared to come from nowhere.

"Hi?" He tried.

"Ya-Ha-Ha! You can see me!" The small being spoke energetically with a childish and ethereal voice.

"I… yes? I can see and hear you." He looked at the small being, and he didn't see any reason why he couldn't see them. "I'm sorry, I'm new around here so I don't know why I wouldn't be able to see you."

They giggled. "I'm a Korok and most people can't see me! But you can! And you caught up to me!" They cheered and did a little twirl in the air.

Magnus blinked, the name carried a lot of meanings, kids of the forest, fairy companions, playful ones. Though the most interesting one was the fact that he could feel there was a word hidden inside of it, even if he couldn't reach it. The combination of words brought the idea of fairies to his mind.

"I'm Magnus, nice to meet you."

"I'm Rone!"

He nodded. "Again, it's nice to meet you, and I'm sorry to ask, but what's this land? When I say I'm new, I mean that I arrived in this world just two days ago." He explained.

"Oh!" Even if the Korok's face was a leaf mask, Magnus couldn't shake the feeling they were giving him the most surprised look possible. "You came from the sky! You look like the Hylians, but your ears aren't pointy! Your skin's dark like the Gerudo, but you are a man! And your hair's the wrong color to be a Sheikah!" Rone seemed to be having the time of their life. "What are you?"

He made a mental note of the names as he wondered how many intelligent races lived in this world.

"I… I honestly don't remember. I seem to be missing most of my memories." He felt slightly ashamed when he admitted it.

"That's terrible! Maybe the Great Deku Tree could help you, or maybe one of the Great Fairies! Cotera's just West from here, you should meet her!"

"How will I find her?" He doubted that she would be able to do much about his missing memories. But meeting someone called a Great Fairy had to be worth something.

"If you head West you will get to Kakariko Village, Cotera lives just before, you can't miss her!"

"I will search for them." He assured them.

The Korok giggled as if there was a joke there. "Oh! Since you played with me and won the game, here!" With another cheerful fanfare and smoke cloud, a small golden seed fell onto Magnus' hand. "We Korok like to hide everywhere, get more and look for Hestu!"

And with those last words, the small being disappeared in another smoke cloud, leaving Magnus alone and looking at the small golden seed. It didn't feel special in any way, leading to him storing it away in a small bag in his backpack..

He looked around, taking a moment to enjoy the area. It seemed the area was more of a plain, the mostly flat ground allowed him to see much further ahead than what he could before. There were only a few trees here and there, mostly bushes and plants spotting the vista.

It was still early enough he could walk more, but he would need to hunt if he wanted meat for dinner. He didn't see a good way to get to water from his position without a pretty big detour, though he could see some pretty big birds he could try for.

As he started his trek he realized that if he could still see well in the darkness, he may not need to rush to put together a fire.

Impa looked at the Zora Prince sitting in front of her. She hated to admit how seeing Sidon all grown up reminded her how much time had passed, she still remembered the prince being the size of a child by Mipha's side.

And now she had to look up to him, even as knelt in front of her still stood at the size of an adult Sheikah. It didn't help that he had brought up memories of old fairy tales she had heard in her infancy.

She let out a soft huff escape her lips. "I don't think I've thought about Star Travelers in nearly a century." She said, "I can see why you would make a connection."

"Father was in agreement, Lady Impa." Prince Sidon said. "We also believe they aren't malevolent, the entrance seemed incidental."

"I would like to have your optimism." She shot back. "But I think we can meet them before deciding if we have to fight them. Though I'm surprised there was only one."

"Only one so far." Impa raised an eyebrow to his comment. "I may be optimistic, Lady Impa, but I won't discard the possibility of others, or even a rescue party. Wouldn't you send a rescue mission if a ship got lost at sea?"

"I don't want to say I wouldn't, but I would certainly measure how likely it's to find them and how much I could lose in the process." She replied a bit too bitterly. "Still, I'm not against meeting them before passing judgment."

"I think that's the best for Hyrule and all of us who live on it." Prince Sidon spoke with a bit more maturity and seriousness than he usually displayed.

Before she could speak Dorian rushed into the room. "Lady Impa, Prince Sidon, you may want to see this." He spoke quickly and grimly.

Even with her age, it wasn't had for Impa to follow her guard towards the village's North exist, less than a dozen meters away from the gate, laid on the ground, was a Zora's body laid under a large blanket, the dark red splotches and the stillness of the silhouette weren't good news.

"What Happened?!" Sidon screamed as he rushed forward, and for a moment Impa remembered how dangerous Zora could be even when unarmed.

The guard that had been standing by the body got the full shock of the prince's wrath. His face went as pale as his hair as the three meter tall prince glared at him. Thankfully Dorian was soon by his side.

"Peace." The word seemed to calm the prince long enough for the man to keep on speaking. "His body was found lodged in the sandbar, one of our hunters caught sight of some Lizalfos congregating and went to inspect."

Sidon didn't speak, instead maintaining a barely audible rumble of anger as he reached to lift the blanket and inspect his fellow Zora.

"This wasn't done by Lizalfos." He finally declared.

Impa approached to give the body's injuries a look, unfortunately she had to agree. "It looks to have been a sneak attack with a straight blade, but why?"

"I've got an idea," Sidon said, making Impa turn and look at him, "he was meant to stand guard and try to intercept the traveler."

"You think…?"

Sidon took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "I do not want to think that. But we certainly have to rethink our precautions on how to approach the traveler."

Impa grumbled and excused herself to reach down and checked the corpse's injuries. What she found made her let another grumble.

"I don't think this was the traveler." She finally commented, getting a surprised look from the prince. "Some of these injuries were done at the same time, but see here," she carefully pulled one of the injuries open, "this spot was stabbed from both sides at the same time."

"But the traveler's a single person…"

"Exactly, this was done by a pair of people, most likely trained to work together." She let out a tired sigh before speaking again. "This was most likely done by the Yiga."

"But why would the Yiga attack a random Zora guard? They have stayed mostly away from our domain." He thought out loud.

"I think they're after the same thing as us, the traveler." She pointed out.

"Then they are in danger!" Sidon stated. "If they are waiting to ambush him near where he had been then I'll need to rush there-"

"Prince Sidon, are you sure about it?" She interrupted him.

"Yes." There was no wavering doubt in his voice. "Who knows what kind of plans the Yiga have for him? They could kill him, or worse, trick him into joining them."

Before anyone could say anything else he spoke once more. "Please, keep my compatriot's body safe, I will return to take him home. But right now there's someone that needs my help."

With that the prince ran towards the wetlands, leaving a wave of water visible from the cliffs.

"Let's hope he gets there in time." Impa prayed to herself as she turned to order the guards.

Magnus hummed appreciatively at the nice spot he had found for his second night's camp. Knowing he wouldn't be too restricted by darkness had eased his rush to set it up, giving him more time to forage and hunt.

He had caught a plump heron and already taken care of its guts, blood and feathers. While most of the first two had been thrown away, the liver had looked healthy enough to add to his dinner, the latter had been put in one of the extra bags he was carrying to make a pillow once he had confirmed they were bug-free.

On the vegan side, his bounty had been plentiful. The plains had a more varied set of edible plants, between them his biggest find had been a radish nearly the size of his head! It hadn't been hard to find as the vegetable practically radiated Life, it actually scared him out of using it a bit.

It was the fact that he had felt it from a dozen meters away, when he had to focus on the other ingredients to feel the tiny speck of energy they carried. And it wasn't like he needed to use it, he had plenty of mushrooms, carrots, apples and wild onions which all would go very well with the wild bird he had caught.

He decided to pass on constructing a shelter this time, the night was nice and if he ended fighting skeletons it would turn out to be just a waste of work. Instead he prepared a nice campfire and built a small smoking box to deal with the excess meat; The bird was easily over four kilograms after I had cleaned it.

He made sure to collect more than enough wood to get it going all night, sitting down close by the fire and fed it enough fuel to start with his dinner.

With his meal going, Magnus allowed himself to lean back and look up. The sky was clear and the Moon was slowly starting to wax, still looking full except for a tiny sliver of darkness. It amazed how well he could see even at this hour, the fire by his side not presenting much of a problem as his eyes easily shifted between both modes.

His mind wandered as he watched the sky, trying to categorize his own reactions. It was hard to explain how he felt both surprised and completely familiar by how his body reacted, what was he missing? Should he spend time daily trying things to find his body's limits or something?

"Greetings stranger."

Magnus nearly jumped as he noticed two people were standing on the other side of the fire. How had he missed them, had he been so lost in his thoughts?

"Ah- good evening." He answered as he gave the pair a good look.

He guessed these were the Hylians, besides the long ears, they appeared pretty similar to him body-wise. The pair were similar enough that he would guess they were siblings or close family. Both were sensible clothes with solid-looking boots, long pants and a shirt and vest combo.

"Would it be a bother if we?" One of them gestured to the fire.

"Oh no, please, sit down. I have some food ready if you want to share the fire." He offered as he reached into his pack to pull a pair of extra bowls, they were mainly for cooking, but they were clean enough to be used to eat. "It still needs a bit more." He commented after checking the pot over the fire.

The two of them thanked and sat down, one of them not hiding much how he kept looking at his ears. It made him a bit conscious about the difference.

"Is there anything making you curious?" He asked, trying to not sound too aggressive.

"Oh! Sorry, it's just I've never seen someone with ears like yours. Are you from far away?"

He nodded. "Yes, though I can't tell you where exactly. I woke up by the coast to the East, apparently washed ashore." He kept the truth to technicalities, something tickled his nose.

The pair winced and the other spoke. "I'm sorry to hear that, it must not be easy for you."

Magnus laughed softly as he tried to put a word to the scent as he spoke. "It's okay, I've the skills to survive in the wild and I'm pretty good at working with wood, so I don't doubt that I can make a living."

He noticed a strange glint in the pair's eyes. "Well, then we should welcome to Hyrule." One of the two said.

He nodded and thanked them, not telling the pair he had been already welcomed. But he remembered that Rone had mentioned most couldn't see him, saying that he was capable of seeing a Korok could either put him in danger or get laughed at.

"Hyrule? Sadly it doesn't ring any bells."

"Well, then it's our duty to inform you about the land." One of the two laughed loud enough the other smacked their shoulder.

They still nodded. "As we said before, this is Hyrule. Well, we're currently in the Lanayru bay area, it's directly connected to the Lanayru sea which is the one you awoke by."

Magnus listened, it was nice to finally put some names to the area.

"It's a bit out of the way honestly." One of the two travelers said. "There's four ways to get in and out, and none are too good. To the North you have the Zora, to the West the Sheikah and to the South you Mount Lanayru, so you may as well just go back to the Ocean and try again further South or North." He laughed.

"Sheikah? Zora?" He had heard the Korok mention the former.

One of them huffed and spit away. "Blegh, it pains me to even mention the Sheikah. Backstabbing betrayers the very last one of them." Magnus raised an eyebrow at the comment. "White haired assassins and thieves, don't trust their words or you will never wake up as they slip a knife in your back."

There was poison in those words, but something rubbed him wrong.

"And the Zora?" He asked.

"Fish people, they live so magnanimously in their domain. But they like to drown anyone that swims in their waters, as if they own all of Hyrule's rivers and lakes." He said and nodded. "Always make sure there's none around if you want to go into the water."

"...what about other races?"

"Well, we're Hylians," one of the two said, "we're this land's bread and butter, you can find people like us everywhere."

"Then there's the Rito." The other resumed. "The Rito are just like the Zora, damn animal people that lord their ability to fly over the rest of us. They live to the North West of Central Hyrule, the Hebra Region. You shouldn't visit unless you want to spend the day going up and down mountains." He said and laughed.

"The Goron live further North of those Zora. They are as dumb as the rocks they like to munch on, they just don't understand that everyone else can't withstand the heat of the volcano they live on."

"Finally there's the Gerudo." The man spoke and had a full-body shiver. "They inhabit the desert to the South West of Central Hyrule. Greedy manhaters, they love precious gems and will kill any man that even dares to look in their direction. Don't try to visit their town, you will be lucky if you die tired running away."

By now Magnus was starting to piece together that he was definitely getting a very biased opinion of the races on this land. As he served the food to the two travelers he also realized what was that scent he had caught earlier, blood.

There was some useful information, mainly names, looks and locations. But the rest was obviously either wrong or very opinionated. He served two plates and handed them over, the two travelers thanking him and quickly digging in. And he did too, the bird had definitely fed very well given how much flavor the meat had.

They ate mostly in silence, mainly because he didn't want to ruin the food. It was a bit greedy, but he knew he was in danger and what he was going to do was most likely not smart. But something was pushing him to act.

"I've a question," he started, getting a look from the pair indicating they were ready to ask, "what's a pair of Hylians doing out here in the Lanayru region? From what you told me there's not an easy way to come here without crossing paths with either the Sheika or the Zora, and neither of you two are carrying any kind of pack or belongings."

Even as the fire kept licking the cooking set, the night's temperature plummeted as the pair of now dubious travelers stiffened. They moved first, jumping away from the fire in an impressive feat of agility as Magnus reached for the sword.

He wondered what was his luck that on his second night he had crossed paths with bandits.

Chapter 6

Venturing the Wild – 06

Stillness reasserted itself once the three people around the camp pulled their weapons. Magnus was thankful to have kept the sword and shield by his pack, it made it easy to grab them. Meanwhile the two bandits had pulled straight swords.

He could see dark red and brown on the blades, indicating they hadn't even cleaned them properly after most likely using them to kill someone else.

"No chance you two just leave? I did feed you, isn't that enough?" He tried his luck, though didn't expect much from it at the moment.

Instead of replying, the two bandits rushed at him blades at the ready.

Magnus did the smart thing when attacked by two strangers, and ran away! Oh well, it wasn't exactly running away, but the campsite was a terrible place for him to fight. He didn't want them messing with his few possessions.

Watching the two of them follow him instead of grabbing his belongings made him think that they may not be bandits. Not that it changed much, they seemed eager to kill him for some reason.

It didn't take long for one of the pair to reach him, only his reflexes keeping him alive as he was being pushed hard. It quickly grew worse as the other joined the fight, easily cutting his escape and pushing him to throw himself away just to dodge attacks.

There wasn't even enough time for him to counterattack, pointing out how unskilled he actually was, and how the skeletons had been easy to defeat only because of how boneheaded they were. Literally and metaphorically. His shield had stopped a few attacks, thankfully, it was showing its worth. But also its age as he didn't think he would get more to parry an attack more than half a dozen times more, or so.

The most terrifying thing was how silent they were being, the glint of the blades under the moonlight, how their faces had turned into masks, a dead-eyed look as they harried him over to the edge.

Maybe it was because they weren't talking, or the fact that the action seemed to have spooked all animals around. But he caught the distant noise of something approaching through the water.

Had they actually attracted something with their attempts to murder him?

His sense of hearing may be better than the two bandits because they didn't appear to react to the noise. But they were doing quite well as his shield started to chip and crack, more than a few cuts on his arm as he tried to save the shield and ended up not pushing the blade far enough as it stabbed and cut at him.

The three stiffened with a loud splash just behind him down the cliff.

Magnus couldn't exactly turn back and look, but the two bandits certainly saw something that spooked them as the pair jumped back with much more ability than they appeared to have at first.

"Get Away From Him, You Despicable Yiga!" Their voice boomed in the silent night and a refreshing mist covered the area as an imposing, three meters tall figure stood between him and the two bandits.

It took him a mere moment to take in the figure, their red skin and shark-like features brought to mind the comment about Zora being fish-like. A part of him was sure they just had been extravagant in their descriptions.

The tall shark man growled and swept with his trident, a wave of water rushed out causing the two assailants to jump off. Though it wasn't fast enough, two similar clouds of smoke exploded when the wave's crest hit them.

The figures that landed didn't look like before. In the place of two travelers now stood a pair of identical masked ninjas. He made sure to commit to memory the crest drawn on their masks.

"Finally you reveal yourself!" The Zora declared.

Magnus could hear one of the two thieves snap their tongue against their teeth before sharing a look with the other and attack at the same time. He hated the fact that it was obvious they hadn't gone all out against him, it hurt his pride a bit. Especially when it became obvious they hadn't forgotten about him and one of the two aimed their next attack at him.

It all happened in a moment and if it wasn't for his superior senses he would have missed it. One of the attackers launched at him, blade first. The towering shark man noticed the action and moved to defend Magnus. He tried to interpose the shield in the way of the coming blade. The other ninja attacked the Zora, and the Zora swept his trident.

No blade reached Magnus, but the Zora wasn't as lucky, a deep, bleeding gash had been opened on his shoulder. Not like the two ninjas had come out unscathed, this time the water wave had hit both of them full on and sent them careening off. The duo slowly got up before disappearing in a cloud of smoke and short-lived slips of paper.

Magnus quickly rushed to help the Zora with his injuries. "Oh my god." He couldn't help but exclaim as he saw bone.

The injured shark man winced as he tried to laugh. "It's okay, nothing some good rest won't heal, and it was for a good reason." He said, maintaining quite a cheerful tone.

"Let's get you to my camp, I've some first aid in my pack." Magnus said as he tried to ignore the warmth on his cheeks as he got a good look at them.

It was definitely the wrong time to get a crush on the handsome sharkman.

They quickly made it to the fire, it wasn't like Magnus had managed to run too far away from it in his escape, and Magnus started to look through his backpack; he knew he had grabbed a first aid kit.

"It's okay, friend, no need to panic, I'm not going to die from this." He said and Magnus really had to stop focusing on how nice his voice was.

"I've no idea how your body works," he shot back, "but I'm pretty sure their blades were dirty, if we don't clean that wound it will lead to an infection." His tone seemed to cow the shark man.

Finding the kit was a relief. The book-sized case opened up to reveal much more than its size should allow, but that wasn't of too much interest for Magnus, his water bottles did something similar after all. The Zora seemed surprised as he retrieved gloves and antiseptics, getting to the sharkman's side and starting to clean and treat the wound.

"So what's your name, friend?" The large man asked between soft winces as he worked.

"Magnus." He replied in a clinical tone as he swiftly sewed the injury with machine-like perfection.

"Ah, that's a good name, I'm Sidon, prince of the Zoras. Where do you come from?" His question made Magnus surprised, he couldn't just shake off the fact of how friendly he was; maybe ignoring the coldness in the two Yiga's tones had been a mistake.

"No idea." He couldn't help but laugh a bit at the fact. "I woke up by the beach to the East, no memories from before besides my name and how to do the basics." He explained as he skillfully tied a knot at the end of his suture of the wound.

He poured some sealant glue before bandaging the area, which turned to be more bothersome given Sidon's large frame.

The prince looked surprised at the whole process, and Magnus would too if he hadn't recognized the sensation of a new Perk getting acquired.

"If you consider this to be basic, I want to see what you consider actual medical attention; I can barely feel the injury." He laughed and tried to lift his arm, which Magnus quickly stopped with a glare.

"Yes… it's something that surprises me too, I find that I've skills I don't remember having. And thankfully first aid and medicine are two of them, as such I will recommend no kind of extreme exercise on that arm for at least a few days." He remarked that with a glare. "Even less fighting! Also not sure how moist you have to keep your skin, but the glue should be dry in a few minutes and the bandages should hold well even if soaked."

There was a strange disconnection between what his knowledge told him and what the equipment he actually had described. He was pretty sure the wound should take much longer, but everything pointed to a shorter healing process.

He turned to the pot, there wasn't enough food left, even less for a three meter tall shark man. Magnus thought about it before pulling the radish, it was definitely something because Sidon's eyes nearly jumped out of their sockets.

"Found it while foraging earlier today." He explained while cleaning up the pot to cook once more.

"How?! Hearty Radishes that size are nigh-impossible to find." Sidon sounded more awed than shocked.

"Really?" Now he was confused. "I couldn't really miss this thing, it's bleeding life energy like crazy." Holding it was like holding a red hot coal that didn't burn me.

"Yes! One of those could bring someone back from the brink of death and-"

"And I think it's a good price for someone that saved my life, eh?" Magnus interrupted him.

After a bet Sidon broke out in laughter. "Ha ha! It appears I won't be able to change your decision, so I will gladly take part in the meal."

Magnus nodded and got cooking, he filled the pot with most of the radish and the half-smoked meat from the bird along with the rest of his vegetables. Apparently the pot easily fit as much as he put inside.

Sidon just watched him put everything in the pot and feed the fire.

"...may I ask something? Who were they? The… Yiga was it?" He asked.

"The Yiga are a constant problem in Hyrule." He said and sighed. "They were once a part of the Sheikah, the reasons they parted ways are mostly lost to time, maybe Lady Impa could tell you more. But what matters now is that they mostly act as bandits and worship the Calamity."

Magnus could practically hear the capitalization.

"Those are a lot of names that mean nothing to me, unfortunately. All I know is a few names and directions, and honestly I'm not trusting at the moment much of what the Yiga told me before." He explained, quickly retelling them the short descriptions the pair had given him.

Sidon's face twisted in disgust. "Well… they didn't lie about the names of our races, general looks and locations. But those other things… Zora do not drown people, Goron are not dumb, Sheikah are some of the most honest people around, Rito use their ability to fly to help others, and while the Gerudo won't let men enter their town without a good reason, many of their number wander Hyrule as merchants and travelers."

Magnus nodded, happy to hear that, otherwise he had landed in a terrible place where all races were evil or corrupted, or some grimdark stuff. He made sure to check the stew was going well, the wafting life energy made him feel better already.

"Just a bit more." He noted. "On a more opposite subject, what's with the monsters and the evil energy that composes them?"

"Most of our knowledge indicates that many of the monsters existed even before the Calamity. But at the moment they are all mindless and hateful slaves to the evil whims of the Calamity. Not even death is a release as every few months the moon turns blood red and all monsters that died on the land rise once more." Sidon explained.

"Hmm, had to fight a few," Magnus' words got a look from the prince, "first one was an octopus-like monster, it hid in the shallow water and threw packed dirt at me."

"Ah, that's an Octorok." Now that was a descriptive game. "They aren't hard to deal with if you know they are there, very weak to most weapons."

He nodded. "Managed to sneak by as it was reloading and popped it with a single stab." He retold. "Next was a swarm of skeletons that kept me all of last night busy."

"Stalkoblins, they tend to come at night away from the roads, but to be swarmed the whole night? I'm glad to see you survived." Sidon's tone showed he was being sincere.

"Ah… thanks." Magnus quickly served dinner and handed him the larger bowl he had, actually a small pot. He was not going to tell him that it wasn't all night fighting, but mostly getting bothered every few minutes all night long. "And finally earlier today I came across a small camp of monsters, had four of those red ones and one tall red one, took them out by setting fire to the pile of explosives they had."

"That was very brave of you, friend. Not many would try to take on four Bokoblins and one Moblin by themselves, even with the element of surprise on their side." Sidon praised before digging in on his meal, his eyes shooting open and quickly chowing down.

Seeing him enjoy it so much made Magnus dig in too. The radish was like nothing he had eaten before. Which honestly wasn't too much to say when he had only had a few meals. But he was pretty sure there would be little as comparable going forward.

The core of the vegetable had practically melted into the stew, adding a rich body of flavor, while the external side had maintained its crunchy textures to give it bite. The Life energy now soaked every spoonful of the meal, though he could taste that it had overpowered the other ingredients' qualities given just how strong it was.

His wounds were healing in real time in front of his eyes, now he can see why Sidon had said it was such a rare ingredient. He still felt like this wasn't a loss, he would most likely be dead down the cliff with one or two stab wounds. He was glad to have picked up the stalk and flowers too, there may be seeds in them. Even if they didn't grow as big, it would only be a boon to have access to them.

Sidon was already looking much better. The young man had seen how he had stopped being bothered by the injury on his shoulder. At this rate he may be able to remove the bandages in a few hours instead of days.

"This must be the best heart radish stew I have had in a long time. How did you do it?" Sidon asks in a good mood.

Magnus nibbled on his last spoonful. "I think it's the half-smoked meat. I hunted a heron earlier today, a big bird. I was planning to smoke the meat I didn't use for dinner, but I assumed you would need the energy to heal." He explained and ended with a bit of a joke, causing Sidon to laugh again.

"I don't think it'll be too viable to do in the Zora Domain, the humidity will most likely keep the meat from smoking properly." He thought out loud.

As he picked the pots to clean them he looked at the Zora. "Now what?"

"Unfortunately I doubt you will be able to continue traveling so freely through Hyrule, at least for now if the Yiga have their eyes on you." Sidon spoke soberly. "I would recommend finding a job that keeps you inside the village for your safety, at least for a while."

Magnus nodded and chuckled. "I meant more about if we should prepare ourselves to spend the night here or start walking."

"Well, I could carry you back to Karakiko on my-"

"No," Magnus interrupted him, "I don't know how well the meal healed you. But as the person with medical training here, I can't support you forcing yourself to swim with someone on your back."

"Then we should start walking. I wouldn't suggest marching during the night, but the moon's bright enough to allow us to see. If we only stop for quick meals we should arrive early in the afternoon." He offered. "At least I think, I've to admit I don't usually walk to places." He jokingly added.

Magnus rolled his eyes. "Then allow me to put off this fire, I don't want to cause an incident."

He quickly cleaned the pots enough to put them away before he poured a good amount of water from his canteen to douse the fire. Once there was no danger of the fire restarting, he gave Sidon a nod so they started their walk.

"I've to ask, you said you woke up by the beach, but that wasn't the whole truth, right?" Sidon prompted. "To be open, we did find the ship piece by the marks of you climbing the cliff.

"I can't say, I woke up to alarms and getting shaken around. I didn't feel the landing as much as I was thrown around and only checked once everything had stopped shaking." Magnus answered.

"Is that how you lost your memories?"

"Ah… not really, that was prior as far as I understand." He admitted. "It's not like I suffered an injury or illness, instead I willingly took part in a ritual where I sacrificed all of my skills and abilities." Sidon just looked at him. "Apparently that caused most of my personal memories to get sealed behind a nebulous set of conditions which mostly can be described as 'live your life and experience things'."

"That's a very strange ritual you were part of." The Zora commented as the two of them marched. "What kind of ritual would require you to sacrifice your skills and abilities?"

"I didn't exactly sacrifice them for nothing, even if the result is the fact that my potential has become incalculable." Magnus answered, causing the prince to raise an eyebrow. "Don't ask me what it does, so far it's only been very unclear to me." Magnus was putting basically everything the system was doing under the same label as he didn't feel capable of explaining it.

For him it just clicked, it was too normal. Thankfully it was enough of an explanation for Sidon and the Zora decided to tell him tales of the land. Magnus enjoyed it greatly, mainly because it helped him piece together what kind of world he was in.

He learned about Hylia, the main divinity of the land, or at least the current main divinity. And even that didn't make her worshiped in all of the land the same, the Gerudo had pushed to a lesser spot and worshiped Din, one of the three Golden Goddesses, through the Seven Heroines who are thought to be aspects of her. The other two Golden Goddesses were Nayru and Farore.

Also while none of them had shown their presence much, the other divinities that existed on Hyrule had more than once assured of their existence to those lucky, or unlucky, to cross paths with them.

"Not many have seen Malanya, Lord of the Horses, in a while and we Zora don't have much use for them in most cases. But there are plenty of records of them mentioning being lesser than Hylia and not even deeming himself to be compared to the Golden Goddesses." Sidon explained.

"And others like Malanya?"

"Well, there's the Great Fairies and the Great Deku Tree." Sidon answered and Magnus nodded, remembering the Korok mentioning them. "Though the Great Fairies retreated from the public scene a while ago, and very few even try to reach the Great Deku Tree in the depths of the Lost Woods."

He wondered why then the Korok had recommended him to meet with Cotera. He would need to either check for himself or carefully question the people living near the Great Fairy.

Sidon told him about Calamity and Magnus couldn't help but feel a chill go down his spine, the being was sealed in what could be called practically the center of the map and it was only the action of a woman that had kept it at check for the last nearly hundred years.

The fact that Sidon had explained he was barely just a Zora kid of thirty years old when it happened nearly hundred years ago nearly made his eyes pop out. A mental note about the longevity of some species was added to the facts he was learning, because Zora apparently easily lived to the three hundred, Sheikah to the medium hundred and Goron five hundred if an accident didn't kill them.

Hylians, Gerudos and Ritos tended to live up to eighty years, but there were a few exceptions here and there.

The talk about the Calamity had led to Sidon bittersweetly talking about his late older sister, Mipha. Apparently she had been one of the Champions that had been chosen to fight the monster.

He talked about her for nearly an hour, it was obvious she had been very important to him. He also talked in length about Zora and their domain, which made Magnus want to visit sometime in the future. Soon moved onto the other Champions.

From the Goron had come Daruk, as energetic as he had been courageous. He had been a famous warrior already by the time he had been chosen, known for his ability to create a protective shield around his person. Just like others in Goron City, he practically lived in the volcano they called home, Death Mountain.

From the Rito, Revali had been chosen. While arrogant and sardonic, he had been the first Rito in a long time to master the control over the winds to the extent he had. An archer with very few equals even in the history of inhabitants of Rito Village.

Urbosa, the champion and chief of Gerudo Town, had come herself. Not just because she was a skilled Lightning user and deadly sword dancer. But she also had been close to Hyrule's Queen and friend to princess Zelda.

The princess Zelda had been chosen for multiple reasons, not just for her position as the kingdom's princess, but also for she held Hylia's sacred power inside of her. Having lost her mother at a young age she had been forced to grow into her position and duties, and things didn't get better as Calamity was released.

Finally there was Link, the son of one of the castle's knights, a prodigy since young age it hadn't become obvious till one day wandered out of the Lost Woods carrying the Master Sword, the Sword that Seals the Darkness, the Blade of Legend, the Sacred Sword and many other names. Stoic and silent, he had been chosen as the princess' bodyguard and had apparently fallen in battle nearly a hundred years ago.

The five of them had worked to take control of the Divine Beasts, four of them in total; though there had been rumors about a fifth that was never found. Sidon talked about the guardians and how Calamity had taken control of all of them, only Link and Zelda's sacrifice had kept the land from being destroyed.

Even now the scars from the fights littered the land. Old abandoned weapons, chests from failed expeditions, broken roads and bridges, and the many monsters still roaming. It was the constant fear of Zelda's seal breaking that had kept a lot of an unified front to retake the land from happening.

Magnus wished more than a few times during the next few hours of walking to have stories of his own to share. The sensation that he should be able to tell similar tales and legends of his own, but nothing came to him.

Soon the night came to an end and the first rays of sunlight shone upon them as they climbed to the Rabia Plains, the higher position allowing them to see nearly all the way to the Lanayru Sea in the distance.

It was a beautiful sight, one that made Magnus want to explore. But until he was stronger and capable of surviving Yiga attacking or the many monsters on the land, he would have to restrain his thirst for adventure.

An idle thought when link comes around with the master sword any plans point out the master sword being sentient if dormant in BotW?.

Yes, but the actual location of the Master Sword is technically unknown, Impa knows Zelda took it somewhere, but no idea where it was laid actually. So while Magnus would love to study it (later), he would have to hunt it down.

She knows enough history that she could probably guess if she needed to.

But the options are either in the Temple of Time (good luck finding the Temple of Time, you're gonna need it), or in the middle of the Lost Woods (not even gonna bother wishing you luck, you're not getting there without divine aid).

There's a third option that it's been laid along Link in the Shrine of Resurrection. But the general people on Hyrule don't even remember the Master Sword actually exists, it's down to a legend and it's only been 100 years.

Chapter 7

Venturing the Wild – 7

Prince Sidon had been pretty close about the time it would take them to arrive at Kakariko Village. It was noon and they're getting up from a quick lunch of fish he had happily grabbed from a large pond they had come across on the trek. Magnus had allowed the Zora to take off the bandage after a small breakfast of rations and a check up of the injury.

He had to admit the fact that the injury most likely had been healed completely by dinner's end. But he was glad to have forced him to wait the extra time just in case. Magical vegetables were an impressive thing, but he barely knew the extent of their abilities.

Between his skills as a surgeon, the hearty radish and the stitching, there was barely any discoloration on the prince's shoulder, and even that would most likely disappear in a few days or weeks.

"What are you looking at, friend?" Sidon prompted during their walk.

"Oh? Nothing, I just thought I saw something sparkle." He answered as he noted that the prince apparently couldn't see what he was pretty sure was a Korok hiding by the top of a tree's crown.

"Oh, that may be a Korok, tales say the forest spirits like to hide in plain sight as a game. Though I've never seen any." He explained and rubbed his chin. "Now that I think about it, I remember my sister telling me that Link could see them."

"Is it rare to be able to see them?"

"More like impossible," Sidon said and laughed, "I've never heard of anyone else being able to see them."

He nodded as they continued walking.

Soon the West Gate to Kakariko village became visible in the distance, a path between the Quatta's Shelf and the Lanayru Heights. The entrance was framed by tall stone columns and the remains of what must once been an impressive stone wall, the damage looked decades old, making Magnus wonder if it had happened during the Calamity.

The two of them became silent as they passed the stone gate, the shadows cast by the tall walls brought a sense of solemnity. He had also noticed one of those Korok's flowers growing on a side, but decided to ignore it for now.

It didn't take long for them to reach a split and head West, the bare valley they walked soon grew wider and started to be populated with trees. It didn't take long into it for Magnus to feel a very strong source of energy a bit higher to the side of their path, another to get checked later.

The village revealed when they stepped out of the forest was, in one word, beautiful. Thatch roofed houses spotted the area between the mountainous walls, a spring fed waterfalls that turned into a river that cut through the village. From their position he could see there were only a few exits, the nearly steep cliffs would make climbing a very hard exercise.

"So how are we getting down?"

"There's a path, but that will take too long." Sidon said, a grin upon his lips.

"Then…?" Magnus felt his eyes open wide as he realized what the Zora meant.

Before he could react, the prince had easily picked him up and jumped off the edge, utilizing his trident to slow down his fall. Magnus could see their fall wasn't missed… actually, it appeared that everyone was watching surprised. Made him wonder if the Zora was such a rare sight, his way or arrival, or it was maybe him.

Thankfully he had been more surprised than scared, Sidon's firm grip had been quite reassuring and quite gentle when helping him down.

"Prince Sidon, it's good to see you returning safely." A man that had quickly approached them spoke in a mature voice. "I take it this is the traveler?"

"That's right, this is Magnus, and well… I think we should discuss this with Lady Impa present." Sidon spoke jovially and smacked him right between the shoulder blades, nearly making him stumble forward.

Magnus nodded to the white-haired man and quickly followed him. He had noticed everyone shared the same color of skin and hair, making it pretty easy to guess these were the Sheikah. There was a strange sensation of shade hiding something vibrant in everyone around.

The man presented himself as Dorian, one of the guards for Lady Impa. For what he described, Magnus couldn't help but think that secretary could be more fitting. Though he wasn't sure if the term even existed in this world, maybe assistant was closer and more fitting.

The well maintained road allowed them to make good time and practically cross the village in just a few minutes, through which Magnus watched around, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the architecture, there was a very smart use of the natural levels of the terrain to practice terrace farming.

They soon approached the house by the waterfalls. The guard who stood by the entrance gave Dorian a nod before allowing us to step up the stairs. He noticed a teenage girl only a few years younger than him peeking from around the corner, she disappeared the moment their eyes met.

He swiftly had to pull his curiosity back as the three of them stepped into the house.

"Lady Impa, Prince Sidon and Magnus the traveler." Dorian presented them.

Lady Impa was an old and wizened woman, her eyes showed that even if time had taken its toll in her body, her mind was a sharp thing by how she had quickly sized him up and already made a decision.

Magnus followed Sidon, taking one of the seats in front of the old woman as the Zora knelt to make up for his size. He bowed in greeting, earning a nod from the woman before she turned to the prince.

"I assume there were complications?" She asked succinctly as if she already knew the answer.

Sidon grinned. "Yes, though I got there just in time to…" He proceeded to retell his side of the events before Magnus explained the moments prior to his savior's arrival.

"Hmm," Impa hummed thoughtfully as she rubbed her chin, "it's obvious to me that the Yiga knew something or at least suspected your identity, Magnus."

"I will take your word for it, Lady Impa, I find myself currently bereft of memories from before my arrival."

"And that, you say you undertook a ritual?" She prompted.

"Yes, it's…" He thought about it. So far he felt much more comfortable with these people, and something inside told him that being honest would work better in the long term. "As I said, I learned about my situation after I woke up inside a room because I had this."

Magnus lifted a hand and sent the system an order to appear. The warm-orange sphere appeared over his hand.

"This is the system I've access to." He said. "It's… uh, I just realized I never wondered what exactly it is, system can you describe yourself?"

"Greetings, this is the Personal Assistant and Development System. System's been designed and developed to assist its User in their development. This system has been designed to understand, react and help its User, but it's not been given sapience."

"That sounds incredibly specific." Impa noted.

"System can indeed gain sentience and sapience in a possible future." The orb vibrated as it answered.

"What do you do exactly?" The old lady asked.

"System's been designed to help its User in multiple tasks. From taking notes, collecting and parsing information, to interacting with the multiple systems User has access to."

"I have access to other systems?" Magnus prompted, surprised by the fact. And at the same time not.

"User only has access to two other systems currently: Job system and a limited access to the Ship's systems when physically close enough. Other systems are currently locked."

"The Job system apparently lets me learn new things at an incredibly accelerated rate." Magnus preempted the question. "It's why I know how to hunt, work with wood and know medicine."

"Then when you said you remembered how to do first aid…" Sidon asked.

"It's more or less how knowledge comes to me. So far it's been as if I remembered doing these things for a decade or more." He quickly answered. "From the system's explanation it should be happening much slower, but given the ritual where I exchanged my skills and abilities for Potential, it's happening at a much greater pace."

"That's a very strange ritual, can the system answer how you come across the ritual and who in their right mind allowed you to use it?" There was a tone of exacerbation in the old woman.

"User's considered an adult, sane of mind and discussed the subject thoroughly with his family." Magnus felt strangely relieved by learning he had family. "User thoroughly understood the results of the ritual and accepted them."

"But still, using a ritual of that extent." Lady Impa grumbled.

"User's father created this system and the ritual itself, there was no danger to User outside of known payments and uncertainty of travel."

"The system explained that the result of the ritual was such that a lot of factors became incalculable, meaning that while the trip was safe, I didn't know where I would end up." He quickly added, trying to fill the moment with words while he processed those facts.

Impa grumbled but said nothing about it, instead thinking for a few moments before speaking again.

"So what are you planning to do now?" She asked him.

"Well, during our walk here Prince Sidon recommended that I don't venture into the wilds of Hyrule at the moment, so I would like to ask if I can live here." He answered. "Of course I don't expect to do it for free and I'm more than ready to offer my skills. While I don't think it's a good idea for me to act as a hunter at the moment, I can both practice medicine and be a competent carpenter, both which I imagine are always needed."

Impa hummed thoughtfully and Sidon spoke up.

"I can say his skills are the real deal." He pointed to his shoulder. "While he did feed me a big heart radish after, he stitched a pretty bad cut caused by the Yiga's blade."

"Then you will have to learn our ways in medicine, I know Tasmon was always worried about his son not following his ways. I'm sure he wouldn't say no to a student." Impa decided. "But that can wait a few days, you can stay at the Shuteye Inn for a day or two."

"I found a few gems on the way here, I assume I could use them to pay for my stay." Magnus noted and retrieved the small bag from his backpack and showed its contents to Sidon and Impa.

She nodded. "Yes, you can use them. Those are rupees, the greens are worth one, the blue five, the red twenty and the purple fifty." She rubbed her chin. "I've to say you were quite lucky to find them. A night stay is twenty rupees, so you could stay two days and have enough for a few meals. But it's not necessary," her tone left little doubt that she had already decided it, "a skilled doctor is worth their weight in gold and paying for a few nights at the inn is not really a cost."

"I understand." He acquiesced and Sidon chuckled.

"Good, on to the next subject, what about your ship?" She quickly moved on.

"The system informed me that the pieces have gone into a safe mode where they will slowly repair themselves. So I would imagine it's better to leave them where they landed unless it's troublesome for anyone." He watched both shake their heads.

"As far as we know, none landed on anything important. But Hyrule's vast and we still haven't contacted either the Rito or the Gerudo." Impa explained.

"Then at most I would like to bring the piece that landed by the ocean, but that can wait." He decided.

"Could anyone else get anything dangerous from them?" Now it was Sidon who asked.

"System?" Magnus turned to the still floating sphere.

"No one should be able to access the ship's segments, safe mode will have had the pieces bury themselves into solid matter if possible and seal their interiors against any kind of intrusion."

"That's reassuring." Impa turned to her guard. "Dorian, could you take Magnus to the Shuteye Inn? Tell Ollie I will be paying for five nights."

The Sheikah nodded. Magnus once thanked Prince Sidon and Lady Impa before following the old man.

"Anything I should keep an eye out on?" He asked as the older man guided him to one of the buildings closest to the South East gate.

"Don't mess with the cuccos." The man said seriously.

"And the cuccos are…?" He asked.

The Sheikah simply pointed at what appeared to be a normal chicken. Though there was a strange current of natural energy to them.

"I will keep it in mind." He wondered if it was some kind of hazing or there was an actual danger from what appeared to be normal poultry.

The building they entered was slightly larger than the rest, the inside was one single room and a very cozy atmosphere. On one side was a row of beds, on the other were more beds, along with a short-legged table, most likely for the people staying to eat.

Magnus had to stop and watch when Dorian approached the innkeeper and clear his throat. Because apparently the man was asleep, while standing. He could see him lightly swaying from side to side, but not falling or waking up.

A second throat clearing had the man slowly open his eyes, palm a small yawn.

"Good morning and welcome to the Shuteye Inn." He spoke in a lazy tone.

"It's afternoon, Ollie." Dorian said with ease.

The man blinked and looked out of the window. "It is." He said and turned back. "What did you need, Dorian?"

The guard gestured to him. "This is Magnus, Lady Impa will be paying for five nights at the Inn." He explained.

The man nodded and turned to Magnus. "Then it's a pleasure to have you here at Shuteye Inn for as long as you will."

"Thank you." Magnus returned the smile, he also turned to Dorian. "And thank you for leading me here."

The man nodded and wished him a good day before turning and leaving.

"You will be sleeping now, or later?" Ollie asked.

"I… I think I'll take a nap, I haven't really slept in over a day." Magnus answered before he felt a small yawn creep up his throat.

"Then please take any of the empty beds." The innkeeper offered.

He took the bed furthest from the door, placed his pack on the ground and laid on it. The moment his head touched the bed, he was out like a light.

Back in Impa's house, the Sheikah and the Zora watched the traveler leave.

"What do you think of him?" She prompted.

"He's honest and good-natured. He reminds me a bit of Link." Sidon answered and laughed softly in reminiscence. "He didn't doubt for a moment about using the heart radish to feed me even after I explained to him how valuable it was and how it could bring someone back from the brink of death. He just interrupted me and told me that he would be dead if I hadn't come and it felt like a good exchange."

Impa huffed. "Just what we needed, another hero type."

"He's smart, easily picked up everything that I explained to him. Even more, the Yiga tried to mislead him with bad information. But he saw through it, though that also could be because the pair weren't too experienced." Sidon continued. "Apparently they presented themselves as travelers but forgot to account for their bags, plus they admitted that there wasn't much use on this Lanayru Bay."

"Good." She said, "Better if he's sharp about things, he will live longer."

"Another thing, no matter how much he looks like a Hylian, he's definitely different." She gave him a look, telling him to continue. "He never stopped for his 'necessities'," Impa raised an eyebrow, "no, he didn't notice. I think it's something normal from his body and he just doesn't have a frame of reference to see the difference. I imagine there's a list of things his body does differently and he will take it for granted."

"That will be troublesome. I hope his 'system' knows better to guide him in case of an emergency." She observed. "Honestly, outside of his rounded ears and the rich color of his hair, I would say he's indistinguishable from any Hylian out there."

"A very fit Hylian, and I don't doubt he will look for training. And if his way to suddenly gain the surgical skill to stitch a wound together is a clue, he will pick up things very quickly."

"Learning the Sheikah arts requires-"

"Excuse me to interrupt you, Lady Impa, but something tells me he won't have a problem with them." Sidon noted with a bit of force.

The elder glared at him for a second before sighing. "I will offer it to him once things settle. While things have been peaceful as of late, I don't doubt his arrival will shake Hyrule with time."

"Any news from the Rito or the Gerudo?"

"Not yet, I expect a messenger to arrive in the next few days. In a way if he will be staying it'll make things easier."

"Is there anything else to discuss, Lady Impa?" Asked Sidon.

"No, I think we're okay for today." She answered. "Your fallen compatriot's body is ready for you to take, I imagine you will want to give him a proper rest as is for your people."

He nodded. "You've my gratitude for taking care of him."

"It's nothing, prince of the Zora. Our people have only survived the Calamity thanks to cooperating." She spoke formally, but honestly in her feelings.

The shark man stood up and bowed before leaving, Dorian opening the door for him to leave.

"Everything went well?" She asked.

"Hmm, no problem. By the time I left he was as asleep as Ollie." Dorian answered with a small chuckle.

"Well, if what he told us is true, he only slept a couple of hours in the last two days and he's definitely been quite active too." She said and rubbed her chin. "Granddaughter."

A small squeak was heard in the room before the teen stepped out from the shadows. "Yes, grandmother?"

"What do you think about him?" She asked.

The girl blinked a couple of times. "He's okay? I don't know what would you like me to say that the Prince didn't say already."

"I wanted your personal opinion, since he may be joining you for training if he catches up quickly enough." She explained. "I don't think anyone started learning the arts at this advanced age. But I will trust Sidon's intuition in this matter."

She would keep how her intuition was bringing back memories of Link's 'activities' when he got bored.

Ayim watched from the rafters as the two foot soldiers reported to Kohga. Their new position as Maus' latest student brought new freedom. But also a series of new obligations.

For example, Ayim was now required to keep the retired blade master up to date on the matters of the clan as the old man couldn't make appearances without sending some message with his presence. So here they were, having to take notes of how two foot soldiers had failed their mission.

Though from what they had learned during the report, Ayim may have had more luck with the traveler, or Magnus as he was apparently called, if they had approached him when they first saw him on the coast.

Once he finished listening to Kohga administer their punishment, the now ex-scout left the room through the rafters and headed directly to inform master Maus.

Maybe it was because Ayim mostly preferred to stay outside of the hideout, but they had never known there was such an extensive set of caves in the Gerudo Highlands. Through careful collapses and blockades many of these caves had become inaccessible unless you knew the correct way, giving the Yiga plenty of ways to hide. Most weren't used, the Yiga just weren't that numerous to occupy them all, or even the majority.

Apparently some of these caves went quite deep. Deep enough that most didn't really try their luck, master Maus had explained that not even him wandered that deep unless he really had to. The man had said that the pit in the yard led directly to the deepest caves and no one had returned from it.

Finally Ayim arrived into the room, teleporting through a specially set entrance and taking their position in front of the old blade master.

"So they failed." Maus spoke and they stiffened at those words. "It's not hard to make a good guess," he quickly assumed in a teaching tone, "the clan would have reacted much differently if they had returned successfully. The fact that there's no large movements is sign enough." Ayim nodded those words. "Anyways, tell me what happened."

"The two clan members approached him disguised as travelers while the target was preparing for dinner. Magnus, that's the traveler's name apparently, admits to have woken up by the Lanayru sea, stating that he lacks any memories from before. It's worth pointing out he didn't mention the ship, he most likely kept other facts to himself."

"Did he lie?" Ayim shook their head to their master's question. "Then he most likely kept things to himself, continue."

"Magnus asked the two of them about Hyrule, with such an invitation they tried to teach him as correctly as possible." Maus snorted at their words. "The traveler still saw through their ploy as he pointed out neither of them had remembered to add a backpack to their disguise, and added the fact that they had described the Lanayru Bay region as not having anything of value."

The older Yiga snorted. "It wasn't just that."

Ayim couldn't help but raise their head. "No?"

"No, it's obvious he saw first through their biased descriptions. Most would too if you describe a whole group of people as backstabbers and traitors, it's basically screaming you're biased." The master explained. "The other descriptions were too on the nose, none would have survived a meeting with any of the races."

"I understand, teacher."

"Good, I will start by teaching you the proper methods of infiltration and information gathering. You may be wondering why I would teach you this, no?" The ancient master's question went unanswered, though it appeared he didn't require an answer. "Remember this, Ayim, if you know your enemy and know yourself you shall never fear the results of a hundred battles."

The ex-scout nodded, committing those words to memory. They would need to properly meditate on them later, they felt like they could only achieve a base understanding from just listening to them.

"Second lesson, don't believe everything I tell you." The old man chuckled at their surprised reaction. "We're Yiga, we know about misinformation, lying and seeing past the apparent truth. There's more to you and your opponent, there's the terrain, possible allies, enemies, even those neutral to the conflict can change the fight."

The old blade master continued. "Keep an open mind, my student. Now let's move to some physical exercises."

A shiver went down Ayim's back, but they still stood up and followed Maus. As a Yiga they knew better than most the price for greatness.

Chapter 8

Venturing the Wild – 8

Magnus' nap lasted just long enough to be invited to share dinner with Ollie. The innkeeper apparently only really awoke for three things in the day, taking care of himself, eating and attending customers. That's why he had offered to cook for the man, thankfully he had stayed awake long enough to teach him about the names of the different ingredients.

None had been especially rare, but their effects were quite known, it was just most couldn't cook them properly to bring these out in strength unless they used the large pots that thankfully abound in quantity. The fact that his camping pot could do it would be a fact Magnus would keep to himself, like how it could store way more than its small size suggested.

Honestly, after dinner there was little to do, leading him to head to bed once more. And even if he didn't feel tired, the moment he laid down and decided to sleep, he was once more deep into dreamland.

Not that his sleep lasted long enough, the system's clock showing he had slept for basically just two hours and having to force himself back to sleep multiple times along the night. Once more his body was showing how weird it was, having no problems in instantly falling asleep and as easily waking up two hours later. He stopped trying to go back to sleep once the sun rose.

While life in Kakariko Village certainly started early, he was still not a part of it, allowing Magnus to head out for a walk. There weren't enough Sheikah around for his presence to not be a known fact already, and during his peaceful walk around he was pretty sure he ended greeting and exchanging a few words with every villager.

He had also spent about an hour playing with the children.

"So you don't remember anything?" One of the white haired kids asked.

"I don't remember anything about myself." He explained. "I still know how to do things, like walking, cooking, etc… I just don't remember where I was born, who my parents are, or where I grew up."

It seemed to take them a moment to understand what I meant.

"Can you do this?" One the boys asked before doing a handstand.

"I don't know, let's see." Magnus answered and took a step back before rolling onto his hands.

His body reacted to the action and easily balanced his weight upon both hands, his fingers dug just in the right way to keep him and his back and legs straightened just right.

A chorus of whoa and ahh came from the kids, making Magnus shift his weight and lift one of his hands, the other digging more into the soft ground given his weight.

"Looks like I can." He laughed at the discovery, easily balancing as he watched the kids try to imitate him, only one of the oldest girls managed to balance for a bit before she fell down laughing.

The moment broke when Dorian approached the group of children trying to do a handstand around him. It seemed his presence had gone amiss as more than one of the children squeaked in surprise when he asked.

"Magnus, I hope you're not too busy." The older man asked after clearing his throat.

"Depends, what do you need?" He asked while still looking at the wolf upside-down.

"Tasmon is ready to meet you." He answered.

"Okay, give me a moment." Magnus turned to the children. "A bit of space, please?"

The Sheikah children stepped back and he slowly flexed his arm before pushing himself off the ground with enough force to launch himself up. From there it was easy to allow his body to naturally flow and fall on his feet.

The children gave another chorus of whoa and ah at the feat as he promised to play with them once he was free before following Dorian.

"When did you find you could do that?" He asked.

"Just now." The younger man replied with a small chuckle. "I found I have to trust my body, apparently it remembers much better than my mind."

Dorian nodded and he didn't miss the mumbled words about making things easier.

The house they approached was close to the center of the village and at first sight its surroundings appeared to be in disrepair. A closer look showed that the many plants that grew around it were actually all potted, and many of those that covered the walls were actually hanging from the roof's overhang to dry. Just coming closer to it filled his nose with dozens of different herbal scents.

Dorian knocked on the door before going inside, Magnus following behind.

"… worry dad, I know exactly where to pick them." A young Sheikah said, he then bowed to Dorian and gave Magnus a look before heading out.

The guard turned to the man who had remained inside the house.

"Tasmon, this is Magnus." He presented him, making the young man nod in respect.

"So this is my new student."

Tasmon appeared to be a bit younger than Dorian, maybe it was the lack of facial hair. Outside of that he appeared pretty similar to most Sheikah with white hair, slightly tanned skin and a youthful face that hid his actual age.

"I will be going." Dorian announced before turning to Magnus. "Lady Impa would like it if you pass by later when you get free."

He nodded before turning back to Tasmon.

"Tell me what you know how to do." The older man asked after pointing to a couch for him to sit.

Magnus nodded after taking the spot. "I know how to practice from first aid to surgery, though I may need time to prepare a place to carry the latter. I know the basics of pharmaceuticals, but I doubt I would be able to acquire the necessary materials here, no offense." The man silently shook his head and gestured for him to continue. "I also have experience with non-Hu- I mean non-Hylian physiology, so I shouldn't have problems treating other races if I can study them first."

The man nodded along. "Okay, so you will have to learn about the many herbs and mushrooms that grow on this land." His tone quickly took a softer, teaching tone. "First lesson, practically every plant, animal and mushroom in Hyrule is full of energy, and this remains in the material when harvested."

He grabbed a bundle of long stalks that had been drying behind him.

"This is Hyrule's most commonly used remedy, normally known as Hyrule Herb; it grows practically all over the land in any moderately flat area." Tasmon explained. "It's not rare to use it as part of any meal as it can be consumed even just lightly sauteed. We Sheikah have long since learned to dry it and use it as part of more powerful medicines or store it as a tincture. Properly treated it can be used as an infusion or even applied as an ointment."

Through the next few hours Magnus learned about Hyrule's basic herbs and mushrooms. Plants like the Armoranth -the artichoke he had found on the first day-, hearty radishes, blue nightshades, cool safflina and many others. The varied types of mushrooms, not just ones that could be used to heal and improve the body, but also a number of poisonous ones too that could be used for insecticides. Even some bugs and lizards fell into medicine given their rich life energy leading to some interesting effects.

"… most common use of the Hyrule Herb's ointment is the treatment of small cuts, burns and bruises." Tasmon explained. "Especially when mixed with beeswax to stop the bleeding."

"But cuts bad enough to cause bleeding would require some stitching." Magnus pointed out.

"What do you mean?" Tasmon's tone grew harder.

Magnus took a moment to retrieve the first aid kit from his backpack and grab one of the scalpels. Before the older man could stop him, the younger sliced a one centimeter gash on his finger.

Against what Tasmon expected to see, while the cut grew red with the potential blood about to spill, it instead pulled both ends of the cut close and swiftly disappeared into healthy skin.

"That's not normal, kid." The older man grumbled. "Most people will bleed, not heal instantly unless they have consumed something on the level of a small hearty radish or similar."

"Oh… I'm sorry then, I forget that my body's particular."

The man snorted. "I will leave you to heal yourself, I doubt anyone could deal with that kind of problem." A soft grumble that sounded like 'Link' escaped his lips before he continued the lesson, mostly by teaching everything he knew about the basic Hyrule Herb.

Soon the man sent Magnus out to meet Impa, by then the sun had started to go down and Magnus realized he had skipped lunch and wasn't technically hungry, so he marked it as another oddity of his body and went on.

He nodded to Cado and Dorian before passing into Impa's house, though instead of finding the old woman in the meeting room, he found her deeper into the house, sitting behind a small desk while looking through some books and taking notes into a scroll.

"How have you found your first day here?" She asked without moving her eyes away from what she was working on.

Magnus sat down on the cushion opposite from the elder. "Very welcoming, once more you've my gratitude for allowing me to stay."

"Dispense with the formalities." She said looking up.

"I still feel correct thanking you for taking me in when the Yiga are apparently after me."

She snorted. "The Yiga just needed a reason, if it wasn't you it would have been something else. In my eyes you're a good kid, even if you were considered an adult to take the ritual." She explained. "Prince Sidon noted that you would most likely ask us to train you for your own safety, after thinking about it, you will be joining us every dawn, after that you will work with Tasmon to continue your training. I will also see if there's a house you can occupy during your stay."

"Understood."

"Good, allow me to finish this and you will join my granddaughter and me for dinner." Lady Impa stated. "You will most likely end training with her, so it would be good for you to meet her."

Magnus nodded and patiently sat there.

Dinner was a modest affair of rice and vegetables cooked by Paya. He recognized Paya as the girl he had seen peeking during his arrival the day prior. Now that they were closer he could get a better look at her, giving her only a couple years less than him. Outside of that she shared most of the usual key features of the Sheikah long with their crest tattooed on her forehead.

The girl was shy and a bit skittish in his presence, though Magnus didn't feel correct to ask about it. Same about why she was staying with her grandmother. So far Hyrule was as dangerous as it was beautiful, and he was pretty sure that wouldn't change.

He thanked them for the meal before retiring back to the Inn to sleep. Once more he didn't have trouble falling asleep, but also didn't sleep for more than two hours at a time. By dawn he wondered what he could do to fix that, maybe finding something to do during the night.

His first morning of training was very test heavy, though given that not even he knew the limits of his body, it was a very welcomed situation. The results were both surprising and not, Magnus was the image of fitness and had definitely been trained in something before.

The real problem was that his body tended to act before even realizing, which was actually a big issue because without the proper experience, it would only lead to getting baited. This set his training forward in shoring up this deficit, a pretty bleak future if Paya's face was any sign of what was to come.

Aside from doing some small chores around the village for some extra money, Magnus quickly found himself into a routine. Training during the morning, small jobs during lunch, learning under Tasmon in the afternoon.

It was on the eight day since his arrival, or the fifth day since he had arrived at the Village, when he received a visit, technically.

Magnus had heard some music earlier that day, but hadn't given it much thought as he went on with his duties. He had spent about an hour learning about another use for Hyrule Herb when Paya entered Tasmon's house with the message from her grandmother.

Tasmon had sent him away with the simple comment of not letting the lady wait and told him to take the rest of the day no matter how quick he made it. Paya only fidgeted and looked away while they talked, quickly guiding Magnus when they left the aromatic house.

"What did Lady Impa need?"

"… a Rito messenger arrived, grandmother thought it prudent for you to meet them." The young Sheikah answered skittishly before guiding him to the Elder's house.

When Magnus had heard of the Rito, the image on his head had been of lithe figures that danced the winds. It made his first meeting quite a surprise. The Rito, who's name he would learn soon was Kass, was quite the opposite of his expectations.

Kass was nearly two and a half meters tall and over a meter wide, and that was before accounting for how much larger the Rito's hands were compared to other races. Even then his body had a well-proportioned nature that didn't make them look strange. Though if it wasn't for the wind sensation he felt coming from the tall, blue Rito, he may have thought them incapable of flight.

Kass also had a particular rhythm to him, which was quite more obvious when he noticed the musical instrument resting by his side.

During the time he observed Kass, the macaw-like Rito had given him a measuring look too.

"Ah, so this is the traveler. I've to admit he's peculiar." His voice was quite melodious.

Magnus chuckled, he didn't feel insulted by the word, if anything he was definitely particular.

"A pleasure, I'm Magnus." He bowed his head slightly.

"And I'm Kass, a traveling minstrel. Your arrival wasn't lost and ruffled a lot of feathers even if you didn't mean to." He said and laughed softly as his own joke. "My occupation has me travel all over Hyrule so it was easy to act as a messenger in this case."

Kass oozed charisma, this made it quite enjoyable to listen to him retell his trip here. Apparently he had started visiting Gerudo Town, his job as minstrel and bard had earned him a pass for the usually man-barred settlement. From there he had ridden a hot current in a diagonal that crossed practically all of Hyrule to stop at Death Mountain and visit the Goron before stopping by the Zora Domain and finally arriving at Kakariko Village.

"I've been flying almost constantly the last few days, I'll be staying here at least till tomorrow." He said. "I would like it if you would allow me to ask you some questions."

Magnus gave Impa a quick look, the elder Sheikah nodding.

"I see no problem about that, I just want to warn you if Lady Impa hasn't told you yet, I woke up a bit over a week ago without any memories outside of my name." The young man explained.

"There are many things that one never forgets, and I think of myself as a good enough judge of character to find a few from a good talk." The bird practically sang himself praises.

He ended up accepting and was invited for dinner by the Rito. Their talk went both ways, not only Magnus retold the bard about his arrival to Hyrule and early experiences, leaving out only a few aspects like the system and his perks. Kass had noticed the omission, but not pushed about it.

On the opposite side of things, the Rito was more than happy to tell him about Hyrule, his knowledge was much wider and deeper than Sidon's. He also cheerfully, and at length, talked about his precious wife Amali, she was expecting soon.

Kass also told him about his passion for learning ancient songs. Hyrule's history extended quite a bit past, many ruins over the land had been there for thousands of years, and others had already been old when those were constructed. And during the many years songs and tales had both sank into the annals of time and also been rediscovered multiple times.

His teacher had taught him many of these rediscovered songs, but most were incomplete, and now Kass traveled there and tried to find the missing pieces. Or compose them.

Soon it was time for them to retire back to the Inn, and while they met to talk during lunch time the next day, Magnus quickly returned to his routine. One that would soon extend for quite a bit of time.

By his second week, Tasmon had seen to teach him everything about the basic herbs, of which there were many, and had decided to teach him the basic processing methods. Not just things like drying and grinding down, but the production of tinctures, ointments and essential oils. Though he only started with the basic grinding, straining and measuring of dried herbs.

This was at least something practical to occupy his time, plus there were proper methods to pestling dried against fresh materials. There was also a need to make sure only the useful parts of the plant were ground to dust. For example the seeds usually were saved for the production of oils, the stalks for general uses and the leaves for higher potency, though the last could also contain oils in some cases.

It was during the first day of his third week that a new Perk was acquired while he processed another bath of Hyrule Herb. The perk was fittingly related to the production of potions and medicines. But not just.

There was a wide berth of abilities aimed for the refining and mixing of materials into better forms for quick use. And while there was apparently a limit to five effects per mix before the result turned into toxic sludge, there were a few ways to work around it.

Though he wouldn't be trying anything without the proper tools, a well ventilated room and his own materials. That meant he would need to start saving up rupees, hopefully he could start doing something else to earn himself the necessary money. Or maybe aim to learn how to blow glass and acquire a perk about it. It would certainly make it much easier to get the complex glass pieces for cheaper.

The perk still helped in guiding his hand during his work, thankfully Tasmon simply looked at how he now held the mortar and pestle and mumbled a 'finally'. Through the next few days, his teacher slowly accelerated his teaching as he showed to be learning as quickly as he did.

The man even allowed Magnus to keep what he would normally throw away for his own practice. Nothing that would be useless, but sometimes the herbs picked had too few leaves, or the flowers would have needed one more day to bloom properly, maybe there were no seeds, etc… basically anything that would have not been used unless there was an extreme need. But still could be used.

While most medicine produced normally with them would be of lesser potency, one of the basic techniques the new perk had provided was a very simple concentration method, not too different from making concentrated soup stock, by cooking the herbs in water at a low temperature for multiple hours while removing the scum and undesirable components. Which was okay with him since he had a lot of free time during the nights unless he wanted to force himself to sleep over and over again.

After a few days of experimenting, Tasmon gave the okay if he wanted to sell the product, the fact that it could be used as actual soup stock if he mixed it with some animal fat for conservation was just an extra.

Of course, it wouldn't be that simple, he couldn't just go and buy glass jars to store it. Glass was a bit too expensive even without accounting for his low savings. What he could actually do was buy some wood and utilize his woodworking skills to carve them into containers.

Though this wasn't without its own kind of problems, as Magnus' savings were practically and completely used to buy a chisel and a small garnet for sanding. The small gemstone was quite a find, though apparently not as rare in Hyrule as it may have been in other parts.

That's more or less how he learned about Taluses and Pebblits. They weren't exactly monsters, though the walking rocks were definitely aggressive to anyone coming close. In their defense, anyone coming close to one of them was most likely looking to break them open for the many gemstones and valuables that tended to develop inside of their bodies.

Garnets were between the most common 'drops' from pebblits, along with amber, though that confused Magnus a bit because amber should have been fossilized resin. After some thought he decided to mark it up as magic and don't bother too long about it.

Costs aside, the carving and sanding of the wooden containers soon came to fill his nights, and while at first he only managed a few, the number soon grew as he learned personally the ins and outs of working with the material.

Thankfully, small and nearly-hermetic containers were quite sought after, and the costs recouped quickly as every family in the village could use a few. That made it easy to recoup his losses and build a modest bank, as long as no one pointed out that he found he could eat the carved out material. Wood tasted faintly nutty in his opinion.

By the start of his fourth week on the world he had become quite adept at not only making the containers, but also etching flowers and other images to decorate them. He was aiming to build a good stock since there were merchants coming around pretty soon. Finding out they visited twice a month meant he had totally missed them the time before.

It was also the reason why Tasmon had stopped teaching him and had him preparing many of the most basic medicines in bulk. The older man was actually quite glad to have a second set of experienced hands, otherwise he would have to force his son to help and that would take away from the available number of hunters for the village.

His morning training was also advancing, but things would take much longer to change in comparison. The merchants would arrive first, and with them news from all over Hyrule.
