if it's not immersive in the "aw yeah actual WW2 battles", it's more immersive in the sense of basically like "probably as close as you can get to actually trying to simulate a fight in something approximating WW2, while still being casual"
1) I mentioned the whole fortifications thing, basically you can take even pretty wrecked places and just start building it up with sandbags and razor wire and even like, dragon's teeth to make it into a pretty solid defensive position
2) they flattened out classes a bit in terms of healing: Medics are still the absolute best but now squadmates can revive each other slowly even if they're not a medic, but the animation takes time
in exchange, you can now drag bodies
3) there's no such thing as designated [stationary] AA or anti-tank gun spots anymore: they start off at certain parts of the map like in previous games, but now stationary emplacements can be tied to vehicles and be towed places to relocate them
they also gave an example of how grand operations works and how it basically shares the whole philosophy of "if you're doing something in-game, it should feel like you're doing it", I believe the example they used was Market Garden
now they give leeway to fun and let you respawn on your squadmates like normal, and all that jazz, but in the first phase like its the paratroopers establishing a beachhead and they don't give you any points on the ground: if the squad gets wiped or you really can't wait for your squadmates to get clear of enemy fire so you can spawn in on them
you're parachuting from the [plane] again
and the intent for the operation for the whole to basically drag on for four in-game days, with your performance on each day influencing how easy or hard it'll be for the side, until it eventualyl culminates into Last Stand [depending on how the operation has gone]
no respawns
only one mag of ammunition left for everybody
gotta scavenge for whatever you can
