V has come to - Battlefield V

Eh, I like it.

When they said they where going back to world war 2 I was sort of unsure as to how they would differentiate it from the past and this seems like a pretty cool way to do it regarding the aesthetics. Though given the split reaction from just the trailer I do have a feeling the game is going to get overshadowed by its own controversy which is always unfortunate.

Hmm, a lot of folks at ResetEra thinks that BFV's being over-the-top, Bad-Company-quese silliness to differentiate it from other WWII games (which are somber affairs). Not sure if it could work, though.

EDIT:

DICE: "We did warn you guys on the customization options..."

What's up with the random woad?
Is this actually set in the future of the Braveheart universe, with Scotland(using katanas, making it a Highlander crossover as well) and America(which never had slavery, not at all, no sir) facing off against the might of the Gibsonian British Nazis?

"It needs to feel like the most immersive battlefield ever played."

'British commando with a katana jumps out of 2 story window, downs a plane by shooting at a tossed grenade and is backed up by a woad-wearing, leather jacket toting, prosthetic having British female soldier armed with a cricket bat with nails and barbed wire wrapped around it.'

The amount of sexism in the community right now really pisses me off. Women fucking served in combat in WW2! That being said, I do agree that the cricket bats, katanas and all that other random crap needs to go.

They could be partisans? Or this could some alternate WW2 where things are crazy. Or both.

This could also be some kind of super Crazy MGS style WW2, where you have people like The Fear and The End running around and The Boss delivering a baby on the beaches of Normandy

To expand on my earlier co-op post, from what I read about the basic conceit of Combined Arms, its that basically you are 4 Very Badass People sent behind Enemy Lines to do [Insert Procedurally Generated Mission Here], so....yeah it might as well be the latter. :V

Now granted this gets to the the actual problem I'll say about the trailer in that they really should have clearly marked it as being the co-op trailer, because normal MP will be more like:
quoting myself on discord said:
if it's not immersive in the "aw yeah actual WW2 battles", it's more immersive in the sense of basically like "probably as close as you can get to actually trying to simulate a fight in something approximating WW2, while still being casual"
1) I mentioned the whole fortifications thing, basically you can take even pretty wrecked places and just start building it up with sandbags and razor wire and even like, dragon's teeth to make it into a pretty solid defensive position
2) they flattened out classes a bit in terms of healing: Medics are still the absolute best but now squadmates can revive each other slowly even if they're not a medic, but the animation takes time
in exchange, you can now drag bodies

3) there's no such thing as designated [stationary] AA or anti-tank gun spots anymore: they start off at certain parts of the map like in previous games, but now stationary emplacements can be tied to vehicles and be towed places to relocate them

they also gave an example of how grand operations works and how it basically shares the whole philosophy of "if you're doing something in-game, it should feel like you're doing it", I believe the example they used was Market Garden

now they give leeway to fun and let you respawn on your squadmates like normal, and all that jazz, but in the first phase like its the paratroopers establishing a beachhead and they don't give you any points on the ground: if the squad gets wiped or you really can't wait for your squadmates to get clear of enemy fire so you can spawn in on them

you're parachuting from the [plane] again

and the intent for the operation for the whole to basically drag on for four in-game days, with your performance on each day influencing how easy or hard it'll be for the side, until it eventualyl culminates into Last Stand [depending on how the operation has gone]

no respawns
only one mag of ammunition left for everybody
gotta scavenge for whatever you can
(Also considering how battle royale seems to be a no-show even in the pre-order pages, I wonder if Last Stand was misinterpreted as being it.)

After ruminating for a while, I think this mixed reception could be attributed to how much EA's reputation has been down on the dumps lately. People are wary of EA's tricks after Star Wars Battlefront. Just...piss poor, really. I, for one, am very much hyped because after getting somewhat let down by Battlefield "Most of the guns here are automatic" 1, I decided to treat BF5 as a WW2 themed shooter instead. That worked for me, prosthetic lady and katana wielding SAS weaboo loops back to being ridiculously interesting.

Seems that most people don't treat BF5 like I did and getting outraged instead.

Call of Duty: World War II did it first. *blows raspberry*

Haha, not really. Though to think of it, the blowback of the whole "gender options for avatars! Waaaahhhh?" variety seems, at least now, more muted than previously. COD:WWII probably took a little of that flak in 2017, so we're on the way to "normalizing" this in a way (as defined by "people trolling the internet give less of a shit specifically about this") I suspect. Somewhat paradoxically, if one's concern was with military and historical acuracy (instead of just manifesting conservative macho internet anger), there is a massive front in the Second World War that saw almost a million women serving in uniform, in and out of combat, as infantry, vehicle crews, and pilots, for multiple years: the Red Army on the Eastern Front. But we know how part of the internet feels about "the Russians"... ;)

On the whole, it looks pretty good so far, at least to my shallow eyes? Once again, a masterful graphics engine. If I wasn't so terrible at the Battlefield gameplay model (I can pretty much only play Red Orchestra on one end, and Halo 5/Titanfall 2 on the other hand, and not much in between), I'd definitely be interesting, though part of me is surprised they went with the Second World War rather than some less exploited epoch.

And rather better, by the looks of it. The story arc that inserted "Rosseau" was a bit contrived, but her backstory and role in-game were both entirely plausible and her character design was a lot less stupid.
You're comparing the wrong thing.

This is more comparable to WW2 having unlimited customization in both race and gender for soldiers in multiplayer no matter what side. :V

Which was a perfectly ok design decision.

I thought BF3's "story" had its moments, but let's be honest here...if COD regularly sees its singleplayer ignored for a focus on the multiplayer (hence BO4's design choice), the singleplayer in most Battlefield games is basically like a telephone in a luxury BMW. A lot of people are going to completely forget it exists, and of those who don't, some are going to wonder why it was here in the first place.

Hmmm, well, maybe that's a bit harsh. Did some people care about the little singleplayer vignettes in Battlefield 1?

Quite like it, actually. Part of my support for Battlefield 5 is because Black Ops 4 decided that it would rather ditch Single Player mode for a Battle Royale mode, ditching out what I, as a long time (former) CoD fan, enjoyed about the series. And honestly, War Stories mode in BF1 harkens back to the era of the first few CoD games, with multiple fronts being put into the spotlight. Missteps aside, like the fact that there are no Imperial Russia or German Empire side and the fact that it's practically all about the Entente, it's still miles better than CoD: WW2. Or as I like to call it, "CoD: Band of Brothers + One French Lady"

Fair enough. Aside from the sheer cinematic overload that was the opening sequence, it never clicked with me when I tried it ("Headline, 1915! Asshole American steals British plane!"), but at least they tried mixing it up.

I've got no problem with the female soldier, since Britain did allow women to volunteer for combat units (anti-air, but still it's not that much of a leap from there).

Then you had the Special Operations Executive (essentially a black ops organisation), which tossed societal convention out the window when it came to the type of people it recruited. The recruiters there didn't care about race, sex or background, as long as you were willing and capable of doing what needed to be done.

Actually, I'd kinda like to play as a member of the Special Operations Executive.

BATTLEFIELD: TWO GOGGLES

Battlefield: 1 Arm. Really accepting Battlefield games as an excuse to bang toy soldiers around like a 10 year old is the best idea they have had. I was vaguely annoyed with BF1 because I wanted something more like Verdun but I have come to accept that battlefield is about a kids idea of how fighting works. You think I would have realized that after the first time I saw someone jump out of a jet, 360 no scope another jet pilot, and then steal their jet but I am a bit slow.

Customization looks bananas and I might be almost ready to come back to BF just for the 4-player coops.

The cheeky nod to the theme was nice, but my sale would be 115% confirmed if they dropped a trailer with the real deal.
