Uruk-Hai Warband Quest (LOTR)

[X] Your Warband is small, tight, and closely-knitted. You focus on a single specialization to the exclusion of all else, but this means that the members of your Warband excel in that particular specialization. You sacrifice strength and numbers for speed and accuracy.

[X] Mounted spearman who are built for battling the Rohirrim and their steeds, trained to combat horsemen and bring them down. Some are armed with nets or pikes to break a mounted charge's defense and attack with their Wargs.

[X] Your Warband is composed primarily of fellow Uruk-hai. This gives more strength, power, and intelligence, but you gain less respect from those who see you as an equal, and uprisings and defiance are common. Every now and then, you will have to put down a powerful member of the Warband to remind them who the strongest is.

Basically, we are become mounted death incarnate when we come up against Rohirrim horsemen which is basically all of Rohan's attacking army. This will give us a elite unite of lancers that can strike anywhere and any time, utterly destroying any cavalry that we happen to come up against. This should hopefully also give us more renown as a capable fighter and or leader if we ever converse with our betters, rather be the elite Uruk than the Uruk who manages a bunch of shitty fighters.

I hesitate, 'cause this seems like the easy moderate choice. Sounds like it'll be fairly effective though.

[X] Your Warband is of a medium size. It is big enough to raid greater villages and small towns, and can blend together a mix of Specializations well, but it is not large enough to raid large towns or holds.

[X] Mounted archers who strike from afar and retreat into the shadows. Your Warband is excellent at picking off enemies from far away and is lightly armored and defended, but weak in close combat. You rely on being able to pick off enemy forces from far away.

[X] A mix of Uruks and Orcs. This allows for strength and intelligence, with the Uruks being the driving force behind the Orcs, who are the front line of the Warband, with their Uruk bretheren being the elites who command them. With someone to crush, the Uruks are sated, and their tendency to rebellion is quieted somewhat, but the Uruks tend not to ride forward into battle first, instead sending weaker Orcs to die in their place.

While I do like this lancer build, it is a shame that we couldn't go heavy infantry. I loved the whole Uruk-Hai solider thing, big shields, armor, pikes, and swords. They had Calvary aye, but the main force attacking Rohan in helms deep was Heavy infantry, and playing as them would be awesome.

Still as I said before, I also like this lancer build. As Mask put it:

I want us to be become the very most elite Uruks! Kinda like knights in fact! Just with a wider variety of weapons, and lighter armor so we're lighter on our feet. (Although plate mail wasn't that heavy)

Anyway Wargs are predators, and as such will probably be based more around lightning strikes, and over shorter distances should be much faster than horses. However what we don't want to do is get locked up in long chases. While Uruks are insanely good for that, Wargs would probably not be able to run for as long as a horse.

This is especially important for large combats, as with a larger force, there is a better chance an enemy force could catch us if we retreat for several days.

I like this, and it gives us the possibility to be archer-lancers later on, which is actually a common elite Cavalry thing. Mounted archers that rely on the lance up close. Medium allows us a nice even placement in terms of what we can do, and a combination of spear and arrow has always found an effective place on any battlefield.

Out of curiosity, is the "war band" title by any way related to Lord of the Rings Online and its Warbands?

The other alternative is to try to make like those Horse-Archers to the South of Gondor and go with a nice scimitar/bow-and-arrow combo, or something.

Yes, actually. I used to play LOTRO back before my old computer went to the Server Farm In the Sky, and I loved Rohan and the Warbands, as well as mounted combat. This is a nice blatant ripoff homage to that.

You knock a pack of weaker Uruks and orcs together. The Uruks snort and growl, but otherwise fall into line, and the orcs are too cowed by your massive size to argue. Most of them can hold a spear or shoot a bow, and those who cannot are made into scouts, the advance forces of your Warband. Lightly armored and armed, their Wargs are the quickest you have, and they can scout incoming enemy forces or find you usable prospects. The scouts are often away from the Warband, and as such need a leader to knock their heads together and keep their eyes on the enemy. This Scout-master would almost your equal, having command over the entire scouting force and answering directly to you.

[] You pick Ulnurz, a stout Uruk with a good eye for wealth and loot, but not much strength in battle. He comes from the same whelping as you, and is the closest thing an Uruk could possibly be to loyal. He could easily be bested by other Uruks in battle, however, and his massive greed blinds him to potential victories.

[] A veteran named Rhagubil. One of the first Uruks bred by Saruman, his skill with infiltration and battle are almost unrivaled in the entirety of the White Hand. However, his age and power cause other Uruks to respect him more, and if not watched closely, he could rebel against you.

[] A spindly stick of an orc named Latburz. One of a detachment of orcs from Moria, he is thin and fragile, but has unerring aim with his massive Moria-crafted blackbow. He excels in slinking through shadows and backstabbing his enemies, and has an eye for tactics to boot. The Uruks, however, do not respect him, and placing him above them would gain you enemies within the Warband.

You ride out from Isengard in the fourth week after your birth, part of a massive wave of Uruks Saruman has unleashed on Eastern Rohan. After circling around the heavily-defended Western Rohan, you have your pick of which of the large regions of Eastern Rohan you wish to lead your warband to first.

[ ] The Wold. The initial point of the White-Hand Eastern invasion of Rohan, it sits on the mouth of the Anduin. The villages here have been picked over and ravaged by much of Saruman's forces, and the towns which lie here are well-defended against attack. However, you could build up your Warband by attacking what few villages have not been destroyed, and warring with the other minor Warbands in the area. A small detachment of Lothlorien Elves have made their way here, and have taken up camp in Langhold, the central city of the hold.

[ ] The Norcrofts. The central breadbasket of Eastern Rohan, the Warbands who raid here have their stomachs full and their bloodlust sated against the farmers. However, the powerful and mighty forces of the region have withdrawn into the central hold, Cliving, and many powerful Warbands have smashed themselves against it's gates. To make matters worse, a full Eored of Rohirrim have ridden to defend the region's food supply, led by a Ranger, one of the Dunedain-men of the North. Any Warband raiding here will find it's mettle tested in short order.

[ ] The East Wall, before the two kings at the basin of the Anduin where it spills into Nen Hithoel. A mountainous area, this region is prowled by several powerful Warbands, including the powerful Orc-Lord Ashbriz the Foul. This is major pass between the Sutcrofts and the Norcrofts, and Rohirric forces struggle to reclaim it. The primary enemies along the East Wall, however, are the numerous Warbands in the area, all of whom seek to uproot Ashbriz and his ilk. Perhaps the superiority of the Uruk will prove itself in combat with these lesser orcs.

[ ] The Sutcrofts. Along with the Norcrofts, this is one of the major breadbaskets of all Rohan, and the primary one of Eastern Rohan. Unlike it's northern cousin, however, this area is defended by the warriors of Snowbourn, an almost legendary Eored of Rohirrim. The Warbands here are weak and few, and if an aspiring Warband could defeat the armies of Snowbourn, the wealth of the land could be theirs for the taking.

The Wold is out of the question, since I'm scared of hax Elven archers. East Wall could be amusing--our presence there sounds utterly pointless and dysfunctional, perfect for a quest. :)

Sounds like the best place to make an name for ourselves, kill some legendary elves and show up other warbands.

Update S.1: The Defender and the Hunt
[X] A spindly stick of an orc named Latburz.

The Warbands here are weak and few, and if an aspiring Warband could defeat the armies of Snowbourn, the wealth of the land could be theirs for the taking.

You ride down through the Vale of Rohan into the Sutcrofts, your warriors roaring with anticipation as their Wargs lope along the grassy plains. From where you have entered the Sutcrofts, far away from well-held Snowbourn, there are several options for your Warband to raid. Latburz and his scouts report a caravan passing along the road to the north. It is heavily defended, and you suspect there might be something of great worth within. However, your Warband is as yet untested, and might not be capable of dealing with such a large force.

Latburz also reports a small cluster of farmholds, barely a village. The village was ransacked, and all the horsemen defending it killed, save one. This lone warrior has recovered from his wounds and formed the people into a small militia to defend their homes. They erected several barricades, and they have surprisingly held out against several Warbands for the last few weeks. Latburz tells of the warrior himself, a six-foot titan with roaring blonde hair who rode into battle upon a white steed, cutting down entire Warbands of orcs himself. Our Warband, however, is one of the largest in the area, and could crush the already-pillaged farmholds, for little gain, but a massive amount of respect from the other Warbands.

Lastly, one of the orcs from Latburz's company, a weedy thing called Morfin, tells of a company of hunters holed up in a small valley to the west. They appear to be tracking a Great Warg, a monstrous creature from the Misty Mountains that stands as tall as two Uruks. He says the beast and it's pack devastated a town in the Norcrofts, and the hunters appear to have tracked it to the valley. If you rode to slay the hunters, you might gain the loyalty of the beast. Alternatively, you could forgo the hunters and hunt the Great Warg yourself, with an elite pack of Uruk hunters. Slaying it would increase your legend among the orcs of the Sutcrofts.

[] Raid the caravan to the north, despite the risks.

[] Ride upon the village and it's heroic defender in order to gain respect and impress the weaker Warbands.

[] Follow Morfin's advice and slaughter the hunters in the hopes of gaining the Great Warg and it's pack.

[] Take Latburz and your most skilled Uruks to hunt the Great Warg in the name of Saruman.
