"We are not done here!" Saheeli warned, glaring up at me before walking out to answer the door.
As she left the room, I let out a breath and turned back to studying the automaton and the enchantments I worked into the metal.
Infuriating female! She was clearly a genius about this, but her methods and way of doing things were so different than mine! She didn't work things out ahead of time, even in her head!
She just… kind of let things happen when she enchanted and crafted and somehow, she got things to just work.
If she wasn't so bloody good, I would have no idea how she would able to do this at all!
But the way she made the metal flow and shape itself for her with just a touch. Brilliant!
I made my way back to the block of bronze on the table, touching it and sitting down, focusing and slowly allowing my magic to flow into the metal before slowly pressing down at it.
This was the first thing she showed me.
I pressed down on the bronze like I was working with soft clay. No fire needed, I pressed my fingers into the bronze and it moved, allowing me to slowly draw it out. It was a slow process, nowhere near the way she make it flow to her will, but…
This was still infinitely less tedious than needing to soften it in a fire and work it with tools! If I needed to rework the weapon once we rescue Kalecgos, this will be so useful!
"Atreus! You in here!?"
"Hmm?" I asked, looking up as Alexis stalked inside, "What's up?"
She stared at me in exasperbation, "What's up!? You have been gone for twelve hours!"
I didn't realize it had been that long, "Sorry, lost track of time."
"I saw." She commented and glanced back as Saheeli walked back inside, "Do you need to tell Sheila something?"
I pinched the bridge of my nose, "No, Alexis, I do not. She is an artificer like me, we have been trading tips." I growled to her.
Glancing around the workshop she huffed"…You know, I actually believe that," Alexis said, looking way to amused for her own good, "Come on, we need to go. You can play later. Master Goldmane is waiting back at the inn."
I grinned at that, "He got the message?"
"Both of them," She confirmed with a nod, "Luckily, he is pretty much done with his business here. At least as far as he thinks he is going to get."
"You think he will help?" I asked with a frown, starting to pack my satchel back up.
Alexis smiled and nodded, "I told him what we were up against, he agreed to help. What's even better, he thinks he know some other people willing to do so too."
Yes!
I grinned and pulled her into a hug, "Yes!"
"Eep!" Alexis squeaked and then sighed until I let go, grinning down at her.
"Dragons, so emotional." She commented with a smirk. I raised my eyebrow at her,
"Huh?"
Alexis ignored me as she looked around, "Come on, we need to get going."
"…Excuse me, did you say dragon?" Saheeli asked with a frown, looking at Alexis, "What did you mean?"
I sighed, "She meant 'dragon'. I'm not actually human."
Saheeli looked between us and then slowly shook her head, "I have a feeling at least one of us are confused and I'm having the horrible feeling that it's me. Because I have seen dragons before."
"You know I'm not from around here, why would dragons be anything like those you know here? I can take human form."
Alexis stared at me in surprise, "Atreus?"
"She is a Planeswalker, Alexis." I sighed and felt like pinching the bridge of my nose again. Why was everything always such a clusterfuck? Is it me? It's me, isn't it?
"Dragon? Fascinating." Saheeli said and slowly approached, walking around me, "How… how big are you?"
…Naaa, too easy.
"Large enough that I don't want to turn back in here." I told her as I regarded her right back, "Might break something."
"Atreus."
"I know, I know." I answered Alexis and then looked back at my new friend, "Saheeli, the reason we are on Kaladesh is that we were looking for Alexis' teacher. There is a crisis back on my home Plane. It's being invaded by… well demons are the only way to describe them. We are going to need as much help as possible to stop them or millions of people will die. Is there anything you can do to help us?"
She froze for a second and then she swallowed and shook her head, "I… No. I'm sorry, but I can't."
I just nodded. I got it, wasn't her fight. She had a life here, why risk it somewhere far away that had nothing to do with her? If I was going to be honest, I was actually kind of glad she would stay safe.
"Well," I sighed and pushed away from the work bench, "I left you the diagrams and thank you for what you taught me. If I ever get back here, I'll stop by or something. Say hello."
Saheeli nodded, "Goodbye, Atregos."
"Goodbye, Saheeli Rai."
