This kinda makes it seem like Saheeli will be his next wife with the way they're arguing.

THEY ARE SO CUTE.
That's some nerdy foreplay this chapter is rated lewd/10.
Oh god it's like my wife allover again, heated arguments then sex.

I mean, there's plenty of advantages of having a planeswalker as a co-wife for Shiela and the rest. Finally they'll have someone that can go out and drag Atregos back home by the ear-horn if he spends way too much time on other planes.

Very funny to catch up again after I've been on holiday. Saheeli is a most entertaining character, and a splendid addition to the list. Looking forward to future chapters.

And here's the real value of RL Earth for planeswalkers - we may not have magic, but where else can you get a thousand pounds of diamonds on short notice?

Boy, early on Atregos was the only one of his kind, now planeswalkers are literally on every streetcorner. Things are picking up, it seems.

Now, I'm gonna spit in the wind and reiterate, please no more waifus.

A little wish fulfillment is good, but too much and it gets creepy. Imagine trying to recommend the fic:

"So, how would you summarize this story?"

"A dude gets phenomenal cosmic power, becomes a dragon and bangs like 4 chicks every night."

"... pass."

Agreed very much. What's worse is that Hiver is usually quite good about minimizing the influence of wish fulfillment on his writing, and I'd hate to see him relapse now.

Summaries always make my stories sound really bad.:p

I don't know - Dungeon Crawler and that one that took place in an archipelago in the sky would probably sound pretty good since neither of them were particularly heavy on the wish fulfillment as far as I can remember.

Coincidentally, both of these are also series I'd like to see you come back to at some point.

I'm really not seeing why you guys are all ragging on Hiver for this supposed wish fulfillment.
For one thing, I'm really not seeing it, for another Atregos is a fuck mothering planeswalking magic dragon artificer.
Bearing in mind the dragon culture as it has been presented, it would be weird if he didn't have multiple consorts.
Which means that when he meets a woman with whom the sexual tension is palpable even with such a limiting, for such things, medium as text, there's less of a reason for to not advance the relationship beyond platonic friendship... if his other consorts are consulted.
There's also the fact that Sheila hasn't really bought into draconic culture and still has issues with the whole polygamy/amory business.
...
Or I could just have a higher tolerance towards that sort of thing than some others.
Either way, I'm not seeing any problems, and am greatly enjoying this story.

This is the sticking bit, here. An author could present a setting any which way and make things sensible within that setting, but that doesn't mean its good writing.

I'm also enjoying the story, it's just that the audience clamoring for more waifus is making me cringe.

Agreed. Hiver does go too far on the whole anti-wish-fulfillment thing, but mostly by nerfing every separate power-up. Then he starts stacking power-ups so that he can get shit done and ends up with several nerfed power-ups that give him about as much actual power as one or maybe two of those power-ups. At some point, I'll probably start thinking that the number of separate ways he's powered himself up is SoD breaking, but I haven't reached that point yet.

On the plus side, he's a good enough writer that I'm absolutely willing to read his stuff even after he introduces a second wildly unlikely power-up, which is usually a deal-breaker.

Gee whizz, it's almost as if the actual content of a story doesn't have a causal relationship with its quality, merely a lot of correlation.
EDIT: re-reading my comment, it seems a lot more aggressive than I intended. Just bear in mind this is practically dripping with heavily distilled sarcasm juices.

...I don't think there's any circumstance in which the readers wouldn't be clamoring for more waifus.

Not that you don't have a point, I simply think you're slightly overstating it.

"We are not done here!" Saheeli warned, glaring up at me before walking out to answer the door.

As she left the room, I let out a breath and turned back to studying the automaton and the enchantments I worked into the metal.

Infuriating female! She was clearly a genius about this, but her methods and way of doing things were so different than mine! She didn't work things out ahead of time, even in her head!

She just… kind of let things happen when she enchanted and crafted and somehow, she got things to just work.

If she wasn't so bloody good, I would have no idea how she would able to do this at all!

But the way she made the metal flow and shape itself for her with just a touch. Brilliant!

I made my way back to the block of bronze on the table, touching it and sitting down, focusing and slowly allowing my magic to flow into the metal before slowly pressing down at it.

This was the first thing she showed me.

I pressed down on the bronze like I was working with soft clay. No fire needed, I pressed my fingers into the bronze and it moved, allowing me to slowly draw it out. It was a slow process, nowhere near the way she make it flow to her will, but…

This was still infinitely less tedious than needing to soften it in a fire and work it with tools! If I needed to rework the weapon once we rescue Kalecgos, this will be so useful!

"Atreus! You in here!?"

"Hmm?" I asked, looking up as Alexis stalked inside, "What's up?"

She stared at me in exasperbation, "What's up!? You have been gone for twelve hours!"

I didn't realize it had been that long, "Sorry, lost track of time."

"I saw." She commented and glanced back as Saheeli walked back inside, "Do you need to tell Sheila something?"

I pinched the bridge of my nose, "No, Alexis, I do not. She is an artificer like me, we have been trading tips." I growled to her.

Glancing around the workshop she huffed"…You know, I actually believe that," Alexis said, looking way to amused for her own good, "Come on, we need to go. You can play later. Master Goldmane is waiting back at the inn."

I grinned at that, "He got the message?"

"Both of them," She confirmed with a nod, "Luckily, he is pretty much done with his business here. At least as far as he thinks he is going to get."

"You think he will help?" I asked with a frown, starting to pack my satchel back up.

Alexis smiled and nodded, "I told him what we were up against, he agreed to help. What's even better, he thinks he know some other people willing to do so too."

Yes!

I grinned and pulled her into a hug, "Yes!"

"Eep!" Alexis squeaked and then sighed until I let go, grinning down at her.

"Dragons, so emotional." She commented with a smirk. I raised my eyebrow at her,

"Huh?"

Alexis ignored me as she looked around, "Come on, we need to get going."

"…Excuse me, did you say dragon?" Saheeli asked with a frown, looking at Alexis, "What did you mean?"

I sighed, "She meant 'dragon'. I'm not actually human."

Saheeli looked between us and then slowly shook her head, "I have a feeling at least one of us are confused and I'm having the horrible feeling that it's me. Because I have seen dragons before."

"You know I'm not from around here, why would dragons be anything like those you know here? I can take human form."

Alexis stared at me in surprise, "Atreus?"

"She is a Planeswalker, Alexis." I sighed and felt like pinching the bridge of my nose again. Why was everything always such a clusterfuck? Is it me? It's me, isn't it?

"Dragon? Fascinating." Saheeli said and slowly approached, walking around me, "How… how big are you?"

…Naaa, too easy.

"Large enough that I don't want to turn back in here." I told her as I regarded her right back, "Might break something."

"Atreus."

"I know, I know." I answered Alexis and then looked back at my new friend, "Saheeli, the reason we are on Kaladesh is that we were looking for Alexis' teacher. There is a crisis back on my home Plane. It's being invaded by… well demons are the only way to describe them. We are going to need as much help as possible to stop them or millions of people will die. Is there anything you can do to help us?"

She froze for a second and then she swallowed and shook her head, "I… No. I'm sorry, but I can't."

I just nodded. I got it, wasn't her fight. She had a life here, why risk it somewhere far away that had nothing to do with her? If I was going to be honest, I was actually kind of glad she would stay safe.

"Well," I sighed and pushed away from the work bench, "I left you the diagrams and thank you for what you taught me. If I ever get back here, I'll stop by or something. Say hello."

Saheeli nodded, "Goodbye, Atregos."

"Goodbye, Saheeli Rai."

This should be early enough that he hasn't met the Gatewatch yet, but he will have heard of them from Tamiyo, right?

Cause if he had met the Gatewatch already then the Consulate crackdown would be in effect, and there would be no quicksmithing duels or whatnot being advertised in broad daylight. Also, Saheeli would be involved in the resistance.

So it should be that Ajani is currently in contact only with Pashiri/Pia (who aren't exactly helpful to Atregos) on Kaladesh, right? The Gatewatch should currently be on Ravinca, chilling after mooning Emrakul, and be about to be contacted by Dovin.

Either that or this is set after Aether Revolt, in which case the solution is to Planar Gate the Heart of Kiran in on top of the Broken shore, hook up a Paradox Engine to a Mana Laser and give Sargeras a hole where his... body used to be.
