Do you have a backstory for the original Baiyu and the prince?
I'm not quite sure who you are referring to by prince, but by orignial Baiyu i assume you are talking about the original timeline.
That ones a bit of a hairy spot, the time bullshit is threaded throughout a lot of twist of fates story and as such the story of it touched on many key events that were very important to the story. As I said i plan to carry some things over from this story to the next so i can't share all of it, but i will share the things that aren't.
So original Baiyu was saved from the bear by a wandering cultivator. I never quite decided on exactly where he hailed from, but he was strong enough to run away from the bear. He could have fought it to some degree, but the rot element is one that is extremely dangerous so he chose to run.
Him saving Baiyu was a whim, but he soon found out about Baiyu's excellent hearing and they quickly grew to be fast friends as they traveled across the mountains and the various territories of the spirit lords. Ultimately he and Baiyu made it do the desert of the south and arrived there as fast friends.
While there they arrived at a city that was on the edge of a slave revolt. Said city being modeled after egyptians cus yeah. They found themselves swept up by the rebellion and had to flee the city when the high cultivators of the pharaoh crushed the rebellion. They were allowed to flee because it was assumed that any escaped slaves would die in the desert. Most did.
Except for one, who found Baiyu and his companion after they had made camp and successfully begged them to show mercy on him.
The duo grows to be a trio and go on many non-descript adventures together, growing in strength and power.
Unfortunately from there I can't go into too much detail because it starts infringing on stuff that is rolling over to the new quest.
But I can say that in original timeline Baiyu died before the group had a serious falling out. Your original friend gave up his life in hopes that you would stop the plans of the friend made at the egyptian city. Because only you could.

The way I write my quests is I start with a premise and work out from there, filling out the background and creating events that will affect characters in the world with or without your input. I plan how they will play out if you don't come across it or ignore it and I try to think of how your actions might affect those events, even if you are wholly unaware of them.
Then I let you roam free and see what you run into and what you do. Letting you experience events and change them, for better or for worse.
That was the reason why in the rewrite you fell into the caverns below. They always existed in the original story, as did other things, but one issue i felt happened with the original story is that I didn't allow yall enough breathing room so you never felt safe enough to go out and run into le plot. Instead grinding up for the next danger i was going to throw at you.
So instead in the rewrite I had yall drop into the caverns below so that you could run into friendlies and feel safe(er) as part of a monster community and hopefully poke your bunny nose into more plot. As well as having easier ways for plot to seek you out than siccing a fox on you.
Yall picked "dangerous starting area" in the og quest. And I delivered on that, maybe a bit too hard.
