Twist of Fate: A Xianxia monster POV quest (rewrite)

[X] "First there is Hei Se, the undead dragon. He is a bookish sort and a bit standoffish, but if you want to learn qi techniques then there are few others who can claim to know more."

[X] "Then there is Didi, the cunning devil. She is a cunning one and she is the face of our community when it comes to the humans up above. She can be mean spirited at times, but if you want to learn how to interact with humans, there are few better at it than her."

Honestly relieved my plan didn't win, being 1 point off would have itched my brain

Who's "Felix"?

[X] "First there is Hei Se, the undead dragon. He is a bookish sort and a bit standoffish, but if you want to learn qi techniques then there are few others who can claim to know more."

Protagonist of my other series "On the dead seas". Error has been fixed among others after doing another pass

Was that leader ever mentioned before?

Working on a chapter for this next. Results are above. Hoping to get it out sometime tonight.

Quest End: AMA
Aight, so as much as I was trying to avoid this, I think i'm gonna give up on Baiyu quest. I had a lot of fun writing it overall between the original thread and this one, but that enjoyment has kinda died down over time. Got new stuff I wanna write and writing a bunny as the protagonist is just hard and annoying in lots of ways that i just don't enjoy writing.

Got a new story that I've been cooking for awhile. Some of you might know it, Its the new story i wanted to write in the old thread when i was giving the reboot option. I've decided to go ahead and have that story and "on the dead seas" be my main projects.

I thought about letting this quest go quietly into that peaceful night via the usual quest route of the eternal hiatus, but i've had some people message me asking me when the next update is and that they hope the quest isn't dead. I hadn't realized that some people looked forward to my content in that way.

Sorry to disappoint, but out of appreciation for the people who were invested in Baiyu's journey i thought it best to end things clearly.

Since things are over however, i thought I might as well do an AMA. That might sound odd to many of you, considering the very stunted nature of this rewrite not going terribly far, but I did do a lot of world building for this story in the background and I had a lot of plans layed out for our little protagonist before things went the way they did.

So if you have any questions or curiosities lingering, feel free to ask.

I won't answer absolutely everything, because I am actually rolling some choice bits of the "deep lore" from this quest into the new one and you might see some characters from this show up there as well, but i'll answer everything I can. If you enjoyed this quest or the last one and want to keep following my content then I will be running this AMA for the rest of this week. Come the weekend, I am planning on closing out the AMA with a thank you to all of you guys and a link to the new story and my discord for those interested.

I realize this might seem self indulgent and to an extent it is, but quests are meant to be fun things and since the quest is over I thought it might be fun to roll back the qm's curtain and give yall a sneak peak into my process.

So, ask away.

Could we look at the.. ??? for the Foundation stuff up to 4141 exp?

Those mechanics are actually getting rolled in to the new quest. I'm actually doing a bit of a mish mash and putting my system, dueling fate's system and win wu's systems together.

The ultimate result is certainly more complex, but I think i've set it up in such a way that it also allows a large amount of player freedom and expression in their build. As well as allowing mortals to be a bit more relevant in combat scenarios with cultivators if they have had good training.

What i can tell you mechanically is that on the system.

step 1 Awakening 20/20
step 2 Adaptation 40/40
step 3 (Flawed foundation) 50/50
step 3 (Poor foundation) 80/80
step 3 (Mediocre foundation) 160/160
step 3 (Good foundation): Iron Muscles 52/320
step 3 (Strong foundation): Iron Skin 0/640 ????
step 3 (Great foundation): ???? 0/1160
step 3 (Excellent foundation) ???? 0/1972
step 3 (Flawless foundation) ???? 0/2958
step 3 (Supreme foundation) ???? 0/4141
step 3 (Perfected foundation) ????

The majority of humans in the mountains you started in tended to grind up to great foundation before moving on, Only people pursuing a more physical fighting style tended to go beyond that.

In the plains to the north the standards were actually significantly lower, and in the grand empire of humanity that the spirit lords were at war with to the east, you were considered a scrub if you did not at least reach excellent foundation.

Do you have a backstory for the original Baiyu and the prince?

I'm not quite sure who you are referring to by prince, but by orignial Baiyu i assume you are talking about the original timeline.

That ones a bit of a hairy spot, the time bullshit is threaded throughout a lot of twist of fates story and as such the story of it touched on many key events that were very important to the story. As I said i plan to carry some things over from this story to the next so i can't share all of it, but i will share the things that aren't.

So original Baiyu was saved from the bear by a wandering cultivator. I never quite decided on exactly where he hailed from, but he was strong enough to run away from the bear. He could have fought it to some degree, but the rot element is one that is extremely dangerous so he chose to run.

Him saving Baiyu was a whim, but he soon found out about Baiyu's excellent hearing and they quickly grew to be fast friends as they traveled across the mountains and the various territories of the spirit lords. Ultimately he and Baiyu made it do the desert of the south and arrived there as fast friends.

While there they arrived at a city that was on the edge of a slave revolt. Said city being modeled after egyptians cus yeah. They found themselves swept up by the rebellion and had to flee the city when the high cultivators of the pharaoh crushed the rebellion. They were allowed to flee because it was assumed that any escaped slaves would die in the desert. Most did.

Except for one, who found Baiyu and his companion after they had made camp and successfully begged them to show mercy on him.

The duo grows to be a trio and go on many non-descript adventures together, growing in strength and power.

Unfortunately from there I can't go into too much detail because it starts infringing on stuff that is rolling over to the new quest.

But I can say that in original timeline Baiyu died before the group had a serious falling out. Your original friend gave up his life in hopes that you would stop the plans of the friend made at the egyptian city. Because only you could.

The way I write my quests is I start with a premise and work out from there, filling out the background and creating events that will affect characters in the world with or without your input. I plan how they will play out if you don't come across it or ignore it and I try to think of how your actions might affect those events, even if you are wholly unaware of them.

Then I let you roam free and see what you run into and what you do. Letting you experience events and change them, for better or for worse.

That was the reason why in the rewrite you fell into the caverns below. They always existed in the original story, as did other things, but one issue i felt happened with the original story is that I didn't allow yall enough breathing room so you never felt safe enough to go out and run into le plot. Instead grinding up for the next danger i was going to throw at you.

So instead in the rewrite I had yall drop into the caverns below so that you could run into friendlies and feel safe(er) as part of a monster community and hopefully poke your bunny nose into more plot. As well as having easier ways for plot to seek you out than siccing a fox on you.

Yall picked "dangerous starting area" in the og quest. And I delivered on that, maybe a bit too hard.
