Chapter 11: To go left or right, that is the question!

No, he wouldn't eat the fruit. Ai Lei had made it sound like a significant decision to make and he did not need to rush it. He wanted to learn and understand everything more before he decided. Like what a 'dao' even was, or what it meant to take in the dao of someone obviously so much stronger than him.

When Baiyu once more left the domain of Ai Lei, he did so with confidence. He felt strong and though he was still a bit scared, he felt more prepared now that he had an actual goal to pursue. He wanted to save his siblings and the first step to do that would be to find them. It was with that intention driving him that he took his first brave hops down the tunnel that the beast had chased the human down.

He hopped through that tunnel and did his best to navigate the rocky terrain in the darkness. There were patches of light here and there from half crushed plants or moss, but the majority his journey consisted of long stretches of darkness where the young rabbit had to do his best to navigate in the darkness. Baiyu was thankful that he had cycl- no, cultivated his body before he had ventured down the tunnel because there were lots of placed where the beast had shattered stone in its pursuit of the human, leaving jagged and sharp piles of stone behind him. Baiyu's reinforced body still got scratched and he lost a bit of fur to some particularly sharp stones, but the majority of them were merely painful or uncomfortable to walk on. It was an uncomfortable and frank reminder to the young rabbit that he still had a long way to go before he could resist creatures like the great beast, if it could shatter stone that Baiyu had to be careful to even walk on.

After a long while of bumping into walls and jumping over stones the tunnels finally grew brighter again as Baiyu noticed the tunnel opened up wider, leading to the some glowing plants actually having survived the great beasts passage. Though source of light was moss which grew rampantly on the damp ceilings and walls. The tunnel grew wider and wider until the passage split in two.

The left passage curved downwards, heading deeper into the earth. It was well lit, a variety of plants lit the way well and most importantly to Baiyu, It was not the path that the great beast and the human had taken.

Perception check: 1d100 + 10 (heightened senses). Roll 88! Final result 99. Great success!

But Baiyu could hear a distant sound of hard striking stone. At first it seemed to Baiyu to be a random cacophony of unpleasant noise, but as he focused he noted that he could just barely pick out individual rhythms. It wasn't one creature striking stone, but many.

The other path, however, seemed to narrow once more and bore the signs of the great beasts passage. Namely shattered stone and trampled vegetation. It did lead upwards though.

[] Head left, down towards the sounds of something striking stone.
[] Head right, continue following the path of the great beast.

Chapter 12: Spying through the wall.

The left passage might lead downwards, but Baiyu was pretty sure that regardless of whatever was hitting stones it was probably less intimidating than running into the great beast again. He wanted to give it some time before he went down the right path again. Give the great beast time to get lost in the tunnels or something. Baiyu didn't particularly care what it did. Just so long as it stayed far away from Baiyu himself.

He had to admit that the variety of plants that lit the way was a nice bonus though. It was like being surrounded by snacks as he continued his journey onwards. He ate one plant that wasn't particularly tasty, but its energy had a cold, hard and sharp feel to it that fascinated the young kit. Others contained darkness and the rare plant had a bit of loneliness to it as well, which he promptly expelled. He didn't eat much from any one plant, but the little rabbit was a serial biter as he left a trail of bitten leaves and nibbled stalks in his wake.

Gains from eating plants along the way:
Metal: 3 Metal dao gained.
Darkness: 4 Darkness dao gained.
Light: 2 Light Dao gained.
Water: 3 Water dao gained.
Earth: 3 Earth dao gained.

However, many bites did a meal make and by the time that the young kit drew near to the sound of clanging stone his stomach was quite full. All the time the banging had grown louder and new sounds joined the chorus. Scratchy throats warbling and yelling in an an unrelenting rhythm of noise. Nonsense words and yelling belted out over and over with an almost zealous fervor, almost completely drowning out the snarling and savagery of a fight. The sounds only intensified until Baiyu Found that the tunnel ended in a wall that was cracked and abused. As though someone had tried to bust through it with mighty blows, but gave up just before they were rewarded with success.

Even now it shook just a bit under the sheer sound and the drowned out roars of combat. Baiyu was intimidated, but also deathly curious of whatever was happening on the other side of the wall. So he peered an eye through one of the larger cracks in the wall and was overwhelmed by what he saw.

Through his little peephole Baiyu saw a what to him seemed a huge group of monsters. Off to the left were small two-legged creatures that stood like humans do, but with scales and lizard-like faces. Baiyu could see their sharp teeth flash in the moss-light of the cavern as they yelled and struck the wall. two struck the wall with sticks that had many bones stuck to it with some kind of sticky goo. Another struck the wall with rocks of his own and the last had a stick made of some sort of rock that made a tingy sound as it struck the rock.

Off to the right Baiyu saw a human with pale white skin and eyes that glowed burning red as he spouted off an endless string of words describing what was happening in front of Baiyu, not too far away from the almost broken wall. There was a circle of crimson red fire where two beasts were locked into deadly combat. One was a giant furry beast with four arms ending in glowing red-hot blades. Its face stuck in a snarled as it bit at its smaller, more agile foe; An insect like creature that, while almost half the size of its opponent, was still several time larger than itself. Apparently it had taken offense to the concept that two or four arms were enough, as it had more than ten arms that all ended in grasping wormy mouths filled with razor sharp teeth.

The fight was watched by a fairly large crowd of monsters ranging from large, hulking beasts to tiny bright red slimes that were barely bigger than Baiyu himself. Though Baiyu wasn't sure how some of the monster, like the slimes, were watching since they didn't have any eyes. He kind of wanted to watch as well, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to risk getting caught, or having the wall collapse on top of him.

Actually, Baiyu eyed the wall. It really was on the verge of falling apart, he bet that if he wanted to then he could probably break it down himself. He had gotten quite a bit stronger from his cultivation after all. He wasn't sure he wanted to break the wall right now, but he could probably wait until the monsters on the other side of the wall left, or come back later to bust his way through and continue exploring.

What will Baiyu do?

[] Break the wall now, while the monsters are all doing...whatever they are doing on the other side.
[] Just keep watching and go back to Ai Lei's cave when you are done.
[] Keep watching and wait for the monsters on the other side to finish what they are doing. Then break the wall and continue your exploration once they have all left.
[] Just go back now. Don't risk getting caught.
