Prologue: Return

How long was it, since you had sunk under the waves? That Treaty that spelled your doom should be long gone, now.
Gritting your teeth, if you had any, as torpedoes tear your body, and shells pepper your hull.
You had not seen your adorable sister for so long… How was she doing?
You kept yourself afloat, even as you felt yourself being systematically taken apart, shot-by-shot.
All you had known since the day you sunk was the sea with its sounds. Music to your ears, even if they were sometimes erratic.
Explosions destroying you from the inside, as you scream. But that was nonsense. You couldn't scream.
Oh, you heard those continuous and terrible explosions that occurred on the surface so long ago. You knew them as surely being the waging of a war. It was obvious that Japan was losing, as otherwise, those explosions would not have been. However, before long, it was replaced with silence.
You were only sunk after someone opened those valves to let the water in.
And that silence was eventually replaced by the sounds of constant ship movement, like a faint buzz that grew louder and louder with time. Merchant ships, sailing through the seas. Only recently has that buzz become noticeably quieter. Was there another war, again?
You remembered feeling satisfied that it took so much to sink you.
You wonder, what was it that could have impacted Japan's Trade so badly.
I want to return, and see the World with my eyes.
Then you feel it. A slimy and disgusting presence, moving towards the rough direction of the Harbor.
We have Abyssals headed towards Bungo Strait. Contact local authorities and any Ship-Girls nearby!
That feeling. You recognize it as raw hate, sorrow and everything that was not right. You felt that once, at the back of your mind. But you realized that it was Wrong. It disappeared afterwards.
Fu-Fubuki here, the 5th Mobile Force is nearby! Kaga-san and Zuikaku-san are launching planes right now!
Whatever it is, it bodes ill, for others not of their ilk.
This is Ise here, the Kure Intercept Fleet is getting ready to sortie. Give us some time!
Could you let it be and hope that it will ignore you?
How the hell did they slip so far inland!? Wonder later, sound the emergency alarms now!
No. Even if they ignored you, you wouldn't let those abominations sail the seas any longer.
SHIT! Those Abyssal planes are on a DIRECT course to Kure!
The sounds of battle ring out on the surface once more.
All available KanMusu, the Abyssal planes have nearly arrived at Kure, I repeat-
There is no more time to waste. You feel the entirety of what made you yourself, and pull.
K-Kure is burning, Poi!
It was time you saw the blue skies again.

[ ] Route A(ircraft Carrier) Yes, times have changed. On the seas, Battleships no longer reign supreme. It is time for you to let go of the past… and draw upon what you could have been, but never was. Even if it was an improbable event, it was still possible. You will return, as you could have been, as Aircraft Carrier Tosa.

Tosa returns as a Carrier, which only needs to move planes around to be relevant, allowing her to keep up with most battles.
Tosa has a massive Hangar Capacity, being of the same design as Kaga, making her a valuable asset for any battle.
Tosa would be of the same speed as Kaga, which puts her behind most Carriers.
Tosa suffers from low personal firepower, since she is an Aircraft Carrier.
On the other hand, Tosa can do exponentially more damage as a CV. Carriers are the Queens of the sea for a good reason.
Tosa has less experience with launching planes, since she has much less Theoretical Knowledge on the general operating of Air Wings.
Tosa's growth is slower.
Tosa has a glass jaw on par with Kaga. The DameCon of Tosa can be trained, but start… in poor condition.
Tosa's Anti-Torpedo Bulges mean that some Air-Dropped Torpedo hits will fail to do more than the damage taken by being rammed by a piece of metal.
Yakitori Kaga has a companion in Yakitori Tosa now.

[ ] Route B(attleship) Yes, there is no other option. You are the Battleship Tosa, even if you were sunken as nothing more than a Training Ship, you still held that spirit. It was time you reminded the world of the power of a Battleship, and why they were considered the most prestigious of ships. You will return, as you should have been, as Battleship Tosa.

Tosa returns as a Battleship, which means the Japanese Kanmusu gets another Battleship. Yay?
Tosa is better than the Nagato sisters in a Battleship fight… once modernized anyway.
Tosa can take much more hits, but she's no Yamato.
Tosa gains experience faster as a Battleship.
Tosa starts with good Theoretical Knowledge on Battleship tactics.
Tosa's Anti-Torpedo Bulges mean that some Air-Dropped Torpedo hits will fail to do more than the damage taken by being rammed by a piece of metal.
Tosa is vulnerable to below-waterline shots… at least until she gets Remodeled.
Tosa starts in her 1923 Loadout, which gives her significantly poorer (understatement) Anti-Air capabilities. Also comes with Torpedoes??
Tosa is slightly slower as a Battleship.
Tosa will be better than the Nagato Sisters in gunfight, but starts with a crippling Air Weakness which can be reduced (but never removed) by later upgrades.

Author's Notes: Depending on which route you take, the Combat will be radically different. It would be boring to sit around as an Aircraft Carrier, waiting for news, so you get to see through and issue orders to your planes not unlike the Battlestations series of games. Expect more tactics and planning when playing as CV Tosa.

Meanwhile, the Battleship Tosa's combat would be much more simpler, consisting of getting in gun-range and hitting targets with your guns. There will still be the element of tactics, but there not much since as a Battleship, the most you can do is run up to enemies and shoot them in their (usually) fugly faces.

Pick wisely.

Tosa Kai-2 Blueprint: FOUND

Dramatis Personae
Admiral Susumu
The Admiral of Yokosuka Naval Base, he handles the planning of operations and out-of-ordinary events, serving to coordinate any military activities. They say he is militarily aggressive, but not stupid. You don't know that much about him, really.

Ooyodo
The secretary ship for Yokosuka Naval Base, she handles day-to-day affairs, as well as requisitions and other assorted activities which the Admiral cannot or does not have the time to handle. All you know about her as a person can be summed up as 'Stern'.

Yuubari
The Mechanic for Yokosuka Naval Base, she is in charge of naval maintenance, fabrication and modification. Nice girl who really likes tinkering with machines, but does have a petty steak at times if wronged.

Kaga
Your younger-older sister. It's a bit complicated, since you are the elder sister, but she is the one who is older in the experience and skill sense. Stoic, quiet, with a subdued sense of pride, she considers Zuikaku her protégé and should the event come to it, her successor. Hence, she tries her best so that Zuikaku would never get a big head. Not that you are going to let her go so easily.

Zuikaku
Kaga's self-proclaimed rival, quite excitable at times, with a fondness of bucking combat norms. She uses 4-Plane sections and 12-Plane Squadrons, as an example. Not to say that she's unfriendly, since she is quite cordial and reasonable with anyone who is not your sister. Underneath lies some emotions you cannot quite ascertain.

Fubuki
The leader of Mobile Task Force 5 (now composed of Herself, Tosa Kongou, Kaga, Zuikaku, Kitakami and Ooi) as appointed by the Admiral. Its duty lies as being the 'big punch' of Yokosuka Naval Base, and with her unlikely appointment she is pushing herself somewhat to keep up with the rigors and burdens of her duty. Plain, Determined, and possessing of some tactical acumen, she is someone you wouldn't mind spending time with.

Yamato
The Flagship of the Imperial Navy (Now JSDF-KMS), she is tall and imposing should she desire. Most of the time though, she is quiet and demure, the very picture of a Yamato Nadeshiko. However, some of your observation tells you that she very much has her own opinions, though she often keeps it to herself. Due to the cost of sortie, she has to content herself with spending her leisure time on-base most of the time.

Nagato
Imposing and commanding, Nagato is the Drillmaster for Yokosuka naval base, in charge of organizing training sessions for most ships, excluding Carriers who have their own separate training sessions. Technically, she is your cousin, and you really should catch up somewhat with her.

Mutsu
Nagato's shadow, Mutsu is content to work in a support capacity for any of the roles in Yokosuka Naval Base. She carries a lady's confidence wherever she goes, and is much more open with her emotions than the more stoic Nagato.

Suzuya
A relatively modern girl in terms of attitude (at least what Kaga says), Suzuya talk in a casual and unsophisticated manner, favoring slang and other terms of its ilk. Cheery, and not afraid of expressing herself with some interests in pop culture, she prepared some nice food for you after you helped her out in a sortie.

Kumano
If Suzuya is close to the image of a Public High-School girl, then Kumano is the very image of a Private High School Girl. A proper, semi-formal attitude, eloquent speech patterns, and no sense of money characterize her. She settled for a quiet word of thanks after you helped her out, along with some expensive chocolate.

Kongou
'The English-Born Returnee!' in her own words. Bubbly, excitable, Admiral-Loving, and silly, the complete opposite of the serious and stern Kongou you were familiar with back in the 1920s. Sometimes you wonder, which Kongou is the real face of hers? Nonetheless, any time spent with her is guaranteed to bring a smile to most people's faces.

Haruna
Gentle, soft, friendly, and very much capable of punching your face in while speaking softly. The third member of the Kongou sisters is quite active with Kongou in having their daily tea parties (when not on sortie, of course), and is most often seen in Kongou's company.

Abukuma
With her hair tied in a fancy pattern, Abukuma is a memorable face, if only because her hairstyle is quite unique. Unfortunately, you do not know her very well.

Mutsuki
A friend of Fubuki's, after a while you managed to remember her, as she was in construction back then, known to be 'Destroyer 19'. You do not know her quite well.

Yuudachi
A friend of Fubuki's, there is not much noteworthy about her, or at least noteworthy things you know about her, anyway.

Sendai
You remember her too, somewhat blurrily as the first of her class of Light Cruisers, though you have heard others refer to her a 'Night Cruiser', due to her love (or obsession) with Night Battles. Has grumbled a bit about you denying her her night battle, but does not hold it against you.

Jintsuu
If you put someone unfamiliar with the Sendai Sisters on the spot, they would say Jintsuu is the oldest sibling. This is an assessment you agree with, given the fact that Jintsuu is soft-spoken, quiet, and very mature. Granted, you could swear you can see a glimmer of forcefulness and no-nonsense anger somewhere in her eyes sometimes.

Naka
Naka is… hard to pin. Of course, anyone could tell that Naka loves her job as Idol, but her real face is something not many would have seen. Unfortunately, sometimes her false mask grates on you ever-so-slightly.

Haguro
With her attitude, one would think that she is the youngest sister of the Myoukou Sisters. She isn't. Her flaw lies in the fact that she is uncertain in herself, despite her sister's efforts to encourage the contrary.

Ashigara
The youngest of the Myuokou Sisters, she behaves quite boldly, to the point where one might even mistake her for being the eldest. Nonetheless, Ashigara has a protective streak a mile wide, and a sense of competitiveness that burns brightly. Luckily, there is little in which she can compete with you in, for there is too little overlap.

Kitakami
A new breed of Cruiser, borne from an extensive modification, you were skeptical of her capabilities until you saw her launch 40 Torpedoes in a training exercise. Unmotivated at times, she is nonetheless quite competent in her job, though she does have a minor dislike of Destroyers, though you feel that there is a reason behind that…

Ooi
From the rumors you hear about her, with her mother-hen tendencies and capabilities, she is the very model of a perfect wife… if a major portion of it was not dedicated to Kitakami. Granted, she is an exceedingly pleasant person to spend time with if Kitakami is busy elsewhere where Ooi cannot help out with, but arouse her jealousy (said to be exceedingly hard) and there will be trouble to come.

I wonder how this will affect the Kaga-Akagi dynamic?

Besides, we already have Battleship Quest in A Nation's Symbol.

Was tempted to select Battleship as a means to get a bit of weirdness going in relation to our sister, but as has already been stated we already have a BB quest going and I like strategy games so carrier it is. I wonder if Amagi (that is, Akagi's sister... not the light carrier, although that probably would get slightly confusing I guess) is going to show. Bonus points if she comes back as the opposite class as us (so if the battleship vote wins out, she comes back as a carrier and vice-versa). If she does, we are totally going the Tosa/Amagi route.

Quick check: you using this design for battleship?

[] Route B(attleship)

Someone has to keep our little sister purity proctected from surprise Abyssals.

Maybe. But she wouldn't be very happy.

Okay, more carriers for Japan because they're better for mixed operations.

It's worth noting that the Tosa-class battleship design had a top speed of 26.5 knots. Kaga, the carrier conversion for the design, made 28 knots.

This means that battleship!Tosa would be even slower than carrier!Tosa. And that keeping up with the carriers would be rather...difficult.
