I could certainly see reasons behind just running with them, but if we are going to teach them then we need to continue to get them comfortable with us.
"What is the this a mob!? Run together!" Tenryuu yells at everyone when they start scattering after a few moments of running. You hang back till she gets everything sorted out. Once there's a double column led by the cruisers, you position yourself at the outer middle portion next to Fubuki and her friends. They wave at you in a friendly manner, you reply by tipping your helmet. Not easy when holding your Auto-5, at least it wasn't your B.A.R.
The first lap is complete without any difficulty but you notice Sakamoto chatting with the Captain and several sailors. Halfway through the second lap you see that the sailors are running now, must be some Japanese thing.
Second lap, there's more huffing by everyone and the first drop out happens, unsurprisingly Mako Reizei is the only one. "No more..." Followed by something in her native tongue, she goes off to the bridge and falls over.
"Oh. Reizei actually improving." You hear Mio say when you pass her.
There's some giggling from the girls as they continue to run albeit a bit slower. "Ara, see Mutsuki, even Mako does her best sometimes." You catch Kisaragi say.
"Hai!" Mutsuki shouts in enthusiasm. Wonder how long that'll last. "Um, Gunsou. If your stuff is too heavy, you can have us carry some."
"Me too! If you need us we're here." Aw that's nice of you two, Fubuki and Mutuski.
"Poi..."
"I'm fine. I had to run with my gear or else I wouldn't be able to join the Army." You reply while grinning. Like the old days, but without Sobel. "Come on, to the finish!"
"Yes! One, two, three, four, GO!"

After the 5th lap people start dropping out like flies, your group and the males. (roughly 20 guys at the start) Counting off Yuudachi, all the Akatsuki class, Saori, Hana, and 3 guys leave on the 5th run. However, the German's wearing pants along with their uniforms, form up on you. They don't say anything but their presence makes your group feel a bit less empty.
On the 8th lap, Shigure, Kisaragi, Yukari, Miho and 2 more sailors leave. As you run, you note that Yoshika and Houshou are passing out water and towels to the tired runners.
When the 10th lap hits, everyone but the German's and 5 sailors are still moving. You're huffing and puffing, sweating, but you know you can still run and sing. "I pull upon my risers. I fall upon the grass. I never land upon my feet. I always hit my ass. Highdy gighdy Christ almighty, who the hell was he? Zim zam goddamn, I'm Airborne Infantry!"
15th lap, you do the hand signal for stop when you finish the lap. The remainder collapse in exhaustion after they reach the end in front of the bridge. Between the laps, all but Bismarck and two sailors had given up trying to keep up with your running. You felt that you ran slightly less that your normal Currahee but it'll do for now.
You stand, unlike everyone else that ran as they're on their butts, and take the towel that Yoshika hands out. "Good work." You feel the stares from everyone but ignore them as you pant.
"Most impressive I have to say, even the Captain was impressed by you. You run like the best, comparatively to our branch I mean." You weakly nod as the Major continues on. "Now you all should learn from him." She then says stuff in Japanese, followed by responses.
Ah tired... autopilot. Wait, what's autopilot?

After unpacking you equipment, you go for lunch which has some shenanigans happen, none involving you. Good for me. However when English class starts... it went off without a hitch really.
The girls properly did their best and followed your instructions. Starting with A-Z pronunciations, then moving to grammar they were concentrating. How is this possible? Back home, kids where always yelling and screaming once in awhile and doing shit to each other. Fucking teens were pretending to be goody-to-shoes but were chatting about fucking. Ah whatever.
Some things did throw you off, mainly where did babies come from.

Japanese weaponry because of specifically, Sakamoto's special move. I'm curious if there's anything we can do regarding magic weapons

More like a Japanese Navy thing. Everyone on a ship did calisthenics to keep in shape. There an image by Sakazaki Freddy on the 'booru on Musashi's crew doing the same thing. That, and it's a chance to show Yamato Spirit to the big, meat-brained American.
Second lap, there's more huffing by everyone and the first drop out happens, unsurprisingly Mako Reizei is the only one. "No more..." Followed by something in her native tongue, she goes off to the bridge and falls over.

Now this I love, good marching cadence, especially the 'Airborne Infantry' part. Few people get the period names right: Airborne Infantry, or Paratroops. Was this something you found, or made up? Also, everyone must be looking at Browning like he's inhuman. The Japanese military handling of these things is marching silently and as a unit.

I'm guessing it's something along the lines of "The American is carrying all that, yet still in good enough condition to belt out some wierd Yankee warsongs, and isn't even winded? What the hell?"
"Most impressive I have to say, even the Captain was impressed by you. You run like the best, comparatively to our branch I mean." You weakly nod as the Major continues on. "Now you all should learn from him." She then says stuff in Japanese, followed by responses.

Once again, different culture. Interruptions in Japanese schools could and would be punished harshly and physically, and a cultural emphasis on conformity and traditional values. Very good.

I watched Band of Brothers, the Pacific, Generation Kill, and did research when ever I felt like I wasn't doing justice to the time period or I forget some things . (As in look just at 1940s->43 in terms of tech and what was going on)
The cadence was sung in BoB, I just made some changes since Browning is alone and not with his original unit.
Researching took a lot of time, so it's one of the reasons that I sometimes make mistakes during my writing, since I have roughly 8 tabs open at once and switch between them.

Odds are this will get Sakamoto on our ass, but it will be entertaining. Meanwhile, what level of Guns/Explosives would be necessary to modify shotgun shells? By which I mean loading our own, not modifying existing ones. I had the idea to create more powerful slug rounds for a bit more oomph.

You already have the knowledge to make slugs, not that difficult really. Now the question is do you want to make it normal or Hi-brass (more powder) shells.

Now, now, we know that shipgirls are physically superior to baseline humans, but that's no reason to underestimate the stamina of a trained US Paratrooper.

[JK] Get Yoshika to explain. She's a doctor (in training), right? She oughta be a good source of proper information for these kids almost her age.
[JK] Aren't those Light Cruiser girls the ones taking care of the younger ones? Tenryu... and Tatsuta, was it? This sort of thing should be their responsibility.

This way, everyone gets what they want: Miho, Panzers, deflection, and armor.
Additional time allows you to come up with a better body armor type and allows you to produce more of it. Since during this time period only flak vests and helmets were a thing, any other armor was more or less useless on the battlefield. Though I'm going to do a dice roll so we'll see how that goes.
Changed my vote, but can we talk to Sakamoto so we could train up magic?
Because we're US infantry and unless there's bullshit armor systems around for the common soldier, we won't be able to improve that part of our gear. Instead, how about improving our barrier magic?
Well, the modern bullet proof vest isn't much different than the version in the 40's. Take a vest, cut it open, and stick plates of various materials in there. Unfortunately, I don't think they have much in the way of ceramic plates, steel is heavy, and fiberglass as armor is stupid. Unless there is a way to make the armor a channel for our shield, I don't see much we can do in that case. I still want to spend some time, if only to make repairs to our existing armor.
I kinda forget, is Witch Magic something that could be taught to others or more of an instinctual thing?
Younger Witches getting taught on how to control their magic power and leave it to themselves on how to manifest their powers?
Not sure how much information regarding Witch Magic we can get from Miyafuji, while Sakamoto... might know a few tricks on how to enhance one's body using magic power, no matter how primitive.
