To The Beginning IC:ג

I feel Ilya's attack zip past, but pay no heed to it. It didn't hit me, and I couldn't care less at the moment.

But what I do care is how the avian scum died.

I heft my Keyshield in front of me, preventing the ravens from damaging my from and face, and raise my free hand upwards, clenching it into a fist.

I pour more prana into my free hand, and bring forth the essence of the Keyblade into it. From the gaps in between my fingers, small beams of purifying light shined through. Bright, pure and deadly to the dark and tainted. I knew, somehow, that these birds were not of this world. They were unnatural, and their intent to harm was immense.

"Kuro! Ilyasviel!" I yell through the flutter of wings and feathers. "If you do not wish to lose your vision, cover your eyes! Saber! Find cover!"

The light within my fist grew brighter, stronger, as I pour more prana into it.

"Let there be LIGHT!"

I open my fist, and a searing white flash filled my vision.
The flash sears your vision, and then stops, revealing that most of the Ravens are vaporised. Those who aren't begin to flap out of the mansion, surely to return later for revenge.

Kuro, who has covered her eyes, peeks out. "They're gone?" She shakes her head. "Okay, now that that's dealt with... what the hell were those? Those didn't seem like normal ravens."

I finish, just as the two come in. I smile and wave. Nothing threatening at all... other than the fact that I am me and I'm here.
And they are coming, indeed.

"Greeting, Princess! Alexander the Great is here to greet you!" the giant man boisterously walks inside the room, and then... he is for a lack of a better word, interrupted.

"Alex! Don't be so loud, Glen is already asleep!" Marta waves her hands at the loud heroic spirits, slighty, trying to make him calm down somewhat.

Surprisingly, it works. Alexander stops; his face taking on a very serious expression.

"Ah, my apologies. Waver said we have a very important guest today, and told be to behave accordingly."

Said Waver was busy shacking a bit behind the huge man. A bit less than before, though; it seems, he already went past "Bluescreen" stage and through "BLIND PANIC" stage, and starting to emerge into "Gonna die anyway, no reason to care what my mad Servant is doing" territory.

"...Well, it seems to be what a less grand entrance will have to do, Princess." continues Rider, and then grin. "Regardless, we welcome you, here in this humble abode. Waver... Waver?"

As his name is mentioned, the youth behind him - still in pijamas - snaps out of silently mumbling about how everything goes wrong forever and stares at you for a few seconds.

Finally, he manages to say something.

"...H-hello?"

And then silence reigns supreme.

On this note, Martha coughts, and stands up.

"Well, I will have to leave your now. It is pretty late." She says carefully, as is apologising "Good night. Please, try to keep it down and not stay up for too long. Regardless, I wish you to spend your time in Fuyuki city nicely, Arcuied."

Just what did Waver tell him? The truth, I guess. I suppose Rider wouldn't see much of a point in subtlety or deception. So he's just going to ignore the people living here. Not too surprising, I guess. Though it is great to see the man in person. His depiction on the big screen didn't really do him justice. Of course, it probably helps that he stands more than a foot taller than me and is twice as wide from muscle mass, but he just has a presence, something that makes him seem several times as large as he already is. I guess that's his Charisma, Rank A.

Old lady actually got Alex to shush? That's impressive. Even if he did so partly because Waver told him who I was before they came down here. I suppose he may have made it clear that I(or at least, the being I resemble) is extremely powerful and extremely important.

...I'm almost tempted to shout 'Boo!' at him in order to see his reaction. He looks like anything I do could convince him to run away screaming. Still, that wouldn't be very nice, and Martha would probably wonder why one of Waver's 'friends' managed to scare him so badly, so easily. We're already being quite odd, but Waver's hypnosis should keep her from questioning it too much, so long as our actions aren't opposite the cover story.

And then silence reigns supreme.

...Awkward. I feel like I should say something. Anything. Just to fill the gap. Fortunately, Martha does it for me.

On this note, Martha coughts, and stands up.

"Thank you Ma'am. We'll try to keep quiet." I say, as the old woman leaves to go back to sleep. Once she's out of the room, and given her age, probably unable to hear us properly, I turn back to Alexander and Waver. I suppose I should introduce myself properly.

"A pleasure to meet you, Alexander. I am Arcueid Brunestud, though I believe Waver told you that already." I respond to his earlier greeting, reaching out to shake the large man's hand. It was... an incredible experience. You can't shake hands with a earthquake, or receive a benevolent greeting from a mountain, but if you could, I suspect the experience would be rather similar to trading grips with the Heroic Spirit called Alexander The Great.

...Then again, Arcueid's memories tell me that actually is a somewhat familiar experience from her connection to Gaia, if on a broader scale. Still, the metaphor is rather apt. The events have some overlap in the emotions they instil.

"You're an Eirei, correct? It's my first time meeting one."

I flex my hand and reform the Keyshield into its original form. My gaze tracks the retreating flock of black avians as they disappear into the horizon.

"They were not. If I had to guess, I would say they were familiars. Of whom, I have no idea." I tighten my grip around the hilt of my Keyblade. "But if I ever find him, I will turn him and his avian abominations into ash."

I turn to Ilya and Saber. "Are you two alright? Do you need any assistance in recovering?" I ready a Cura spell, just in case.

Your prana bolt evaporates the opposition before you; and then continues down to the corridor, barely passing the Kuro and Ling.

Then something explodes. There is one less wall in the Castle, now.

"Hey, watch it!" You barely hear Kuro's surprised scream past all the avian screeching.

The damage dealt to the enemy by your beam... Hard to gauge, the black cloud of endless ravens is still as black and endless as ever.
"Sorry!!" I shout taking a position next to Kuro Ruby at the ready "It was a little hard to aim with so many of them, your not hurt are you?" I asked the concern evident in my voice, she was my sister and as such I should be worried about her even if she could cleave a card in two with one hand.

"I'm fine, put up a shield just in case when I closed my eyes" I said as my eyes wandered over to the fleeing birds, something didn't feel right almost as if...

they weren't supposed to be here, this could be a problem "If they were familiars I think that was an awful lot of them...I have a feeling that they were here to scout us instead of actually kill us."

Things seem to fall into a rhythm as I defend Illya from ravenous ravens. I swing Excalibur in the way that my memory and muscles remember. All in all it was actually really easy, sort of like going to a batting cage with the settings on low. Ravens were cleaved from the air. One, two, sometimes more at a time as they came at us like a brainless mob. Even if they were fighting smarter I wouldn't have any problems. The worse they could do is force me to use my Hammer of the Tyrant King.

"Kuro! Ilyasviel!" I yell through the flutter of wings and feathers. "If you do not wish to lose your vision, cover your eyes! Saber! Find cover!"

A voice resounds from down the corridor that Illya just blasted. Without turning around I'm not entirely sure who's speaking. I continue defending my Master.

"Let there be LIGHT!"

Who turned the oven on?!

Heat and light suffuse the hallway. It almost feels like stepping into 100 degree weather, and I close my eyes to avoid looking at a blinding light that erupted all of a sudden. The distinct sound of aggravated birds lessens to near nothing as whatever it is dies down after a few seconds.
I slowly open my left eye to test the waters. Thankfully I don't have spots in my vision as typical from exposure to sudden bright lights. I open my other eye and slowly look around. The ravens seem to have either been killed, or fled. Good.

they weren't supposed to be here, this could be a problem "If they were familiars I think that was an awful lot of them...I have a feeling that they were here to scout us instead of actually kill us."

"Could they belong to your parents?"

"Neither Irisviel nor Kiritsugu use birds as their familiars." I say. "Maiya uses bats, and even then it was for situations where contact through mundane means was impossible. I am not certain about the other Masters and Servants, however. Perhaps it was Caster or Archer's Masters, or..."

An even dire possibility entered my mind. "Maybe it was from a third party. One completely unrelated to the Grail War..."

I nod as Illya and Helmet Head spoke. They both pretty much shot down my thought. Though maybe we shouldn't discount it just yet, because who knows how many butterflies have occurred prior to our being here.

"It's possible, but I don't understand why they would so brazenly test our abilities like this." That is to say, test their abilities. As a servant, I'm expected to hold greater than human strength and capabilities. Unlike the others I stuck to simple sword swings and no grand displays of power.

"Perhaps using your magic was not the best of ideas. If they were a scouting force then you just provided a good deal of insight into your power." Hindsight is 20:20 I suppose, and I guess even talking helmets like… "What do you prefer to be called?" I ask the living suit of armor.

"My full name is the Lingering Sentiment. Hence, calling me Ling would be equally fine." I shrug. "So, what is our plan of action now? Do we continue looking for Kiritsugu and Irisviel?"

"Yes, I am. I must say, this is my first time meeting as my master here..." He casually gestures to his master, who still dutifyly tries to hide in the background. "...said, the strongest being on the earth, the White Princess. This new life so far is just so full of surprises, I can't help but be amazed about all these wonderful things I have see soo far."

In fact, you can notice what he is already wearing "The World!" shirt, and notice a few rather new-looking box standing in the corner; it seems, he had enough time to somewhat familiarize yourself with the world he found himself in.

"So, Arcuied. Should we proceed upstair, where my master choose to reside? I'd rather not wake up the old man, and we can discuss what has led you to this city over the exploration wonders of this new world."

As Iscander says "Wonders of the new world." Waver barely perceptibly groans.

Strongest being on Earth, eh..? Somehow, I doubt that's accurate, at least not completely. I doubt I'd be remolding into the absolute strongest being in the 'Verse without any sort of weakening effect. It doesn't seem like the sort of thing my 'employer' would do. He seems like Gaia, in a way. Grants just enough power to overcome my enemies, and not a drop more.

"I wouldn't claim to be the absolute strongest being on Earth. There a few contenders for the title out there... though one of them technically isn't from Earth..." I reply to him claiming I'm the strongest. Hopefully he won't get any funny ideas of me being able to stomp any Servant. I can probably beat the snot out of a lot of them like this, but there are a few who could reverse that. Particularly Gilgamesh, who is canonically Arcueid's natural enemy, in the sense that Ultimate One doesn't account for his stupidly huge stockpile of weapons with unique conceptual effects.

To his offer to head upstairs, I nod. Wonders of the new world... oh, he must mean modern technology. All the crap I took for granted. Technically, given that it's 1995 last I checked, probably less advanced than what I took for granted. Still I remember that guy's speech about airplanes, and how people somehow complain about the service on the wondrous object. I live in an age of wonders; so what if the screens aren't as cool yet?

"That sounds good. I would like to see these wonders you speak of. Though your master doesn't seem nearly as effused."

"Well I was planning on just waiting here for Mom and Dad to arrive, but with the bird attack I don't think that's a good idea anymore. Still I don't know where else to begin looking" I said with a sigh, it was true this was the only place I knew that mom and dad would likely end up, anywhere else would just be guessing.

"You are correct. Einzbern Castle would be the first place they might look. However, it is not the only place we could use for concealment." I turn to the child. "Do you know any form of hypnosis? Mayhap we could use that to find another place of refuge and gain additional funds."

I look at the three girls. "Regardless, this place is no longer suitable to be our base of operations. We must leave and seek better shelter and concealment elsewhere. And I've a feeling that those avians were not just looking for their target, but also for a place for their master to reside in. We should demolish this castle as soon as possible, lest it fall to the wrong hands."

"Fuyuki is a large city, filled with all manner of living spaces." I begin. "We do not need such a luxurious place to reside in, only one that may suit our needs until we find Ilya's parents, who would be arriving either today, or tomorrow. A hotel room somewhere in downtown Fuyuki would do perfectly. A simple touch of hypnosis, a bounded field that can conceal our presences and a few questions to passerbys may provide us with a place that we may use."

"Umm" I said nervously "I...can't really do any of that. All I can really do are the stuff with Ruby and use the class cards, I suppose the Caster card would allow me to do it..." my voice was nervous as I explained things to Ling.

"a-and for a p-place to stay I might have an idea, d-dad once told me that our house h-had pretty much been abandoned before he and mom bought and renovated it...but there was apparently a traditional Japanese style home there...w-we could stay there assuming no one is using it." I continued taking a deep breath "A-also we should leave some sort of message for them in case they come here."

"A Japanese-style home?" I tilt my head. "Yes, that would be more than sufficient. And yes, it would be beneficial to our plans if we were to leave a message here if your parents come looking. However," I raise a finger. "How are we to ensure that the message we are to leave behind won't draw the attention of our enemies? It would have to be one capable of distinguishing between its recipient and others who are not. A familiar, perhaps?"

...Strange. I'm not normally able to do such strategic thinking. I mean, sure, I played RTS and FPS games, but I doubted they would lend any sort of extra intelligence to me in situations like this.

Now that I think about it, there's something about this whole 'getting stuck inside a certain character by ROB and dropped into Fate/zero' that feels... Familiar...
Is this Darkness? How did it get here?

"I suggest you make up your minds quickly. While the enemy probably won't attack us again, we aren't doing any good by lingering here." I cut through the conversation, frankly getting a little bit tired at the circles we're running in.

Illya's suggestion of leaving a message would be… bad probably. We could likely get Irisviel to come and meet up with us in a peaceful manner, but the man himself would probably be waiting on top of a building with a sniper rifle in hands.

"I have to vote against leaving a message. Kiritsugu is not a trusting person. He would likely believe that you're an imposter and try to kill you before hearing you out."

Oh for fucks sake. Of course this bullshit is happening. Summoning the third Silmaril on my foot, I bring the edge to the tentacles, aiming to sever the tentacle.
You manage to burn away the tentacles on one arm. Unfortunately, your other leg got snagged while you were waiting.
You are now hanging from one arm and one leg.

I ponder the dilemma, Alter has a point dad has never really been the trusting sort and it was unlikely that we could leave a clear enough message to convince him otherwise. Plus the obvious signs of a battle and damage to the castle probably won't do much to persuade him otherwise....

"Unless one of use is willing to wait here I think we should just get moving to the house, knowing dad he'd use it as a back up if he thought the castle was compromised." I said with a sigh, why couldn't things just be simple? If only we knew what flight mom was arriving on.

"Caster. What the fuck are you doing? Just do something, I don't even care, just stop faffing with these goddamn tentacles." As I'm saying this I try bring my hand around with the Silmaril to free the other hand, making a gap in the tentacles to pull my hand out of and shimmying the Silmaril in between my toes of my free leg and try cutting the tentacle off.

A moment later, you were in the room above; facing the unforeseen problem.

Rider was a great man, but instant understanding of technology was not of one of his strong points.

"How does this work? Master, do you know how to turn this device on?" He mused, tinkering with buttons while the TV dutifully displayed white screen full of static.

"I am a magi, not a miracle worker! Where is an instruction to this machine..."

***
A bit later, a random cassette was taken out, loaded into metallic box, and the show started... Rider turned off the light.

"I was informed what this one is to be watched in the darkness." He explained under the questioning stares.

Waver, at this point resigned to the fact what the world is mad didn't even shudered when he saw the red eyes of the True Ancestor shining in the darkness.

In general, the film picked, Frankenstein, probably was a good choice in general, and bad choice for Iscander in particular.

It's not like he didn't liked it; quite opposite, he and his master both enjoyed watching, even for different reasons.

And in those differences lied the problem.

"But that's soooo subpar! I mean, using dead flesh for a homunculus? I mean, why? Why even bother with something so low-quality? Animals are..."

"That's... probably was not the point. "

But surprisingly enough, for a horror movie, Waver spent far too much time whining about how everybody was sooo unprofessional and stupid what it hurts.

"Regardless, antagonising the monster? What he was thinking?!"

"I don't think..."

"And what kind of creator that was, to leave a creation untrained, unsupervised, uneducated? Doctor Frankenstein " Waver spat the name as acid while waving his hands around wildly trying to convey his dissatisfaction "Is a goddamn retard and..."

"Sooo.... Arcuied, what has led you to the city?" Iscander interrupted the rant, glancing at you.

There was a little something in the normally cheerful tone of voice the the huge readhead man what conveied the message; "Halp, I need a distruction."

I wasn't sure who was more surprised by this new development, me or the creature, but by the way its huge black eyes widened I'd say it was. However, the thing reacted fast, several nearby tentacles immediately reached out to grab me. Unfortunately for them I was too close, Solarion pierced right into the iris of the eye, intakes of blood gushed into the ocean from the new wound. One target down, two more to go and now to destroy the other eye.

The monster shook in pain and rage, soundless scream of hatred echoed in the water. Retracting my spear I made my way towards the other eye, dodging incoming limbs and those that came too close were sliced off with extreme prejudice. The attacks are coming in much faster but they lost any coordination that they had before.

The second eye suffered the same fate as the first, thin layer of skin did nothing to protect it from a spear head charge. Now completely blind, its limb waved around erratically propelling it away from me. Mentally grabbing my weapon I sent it flying toward the mouth, the flying spear emerged from a hole on the other side of the head.

It's during this madness that I come to the realization that I don't actually remember how to set up a television properly. Nowadays I mostly watch my movies online. The last big player I set up was a Wii. Also, it's some Japanese model that I don't actually recognize.

Then again, I think I understand it a bit more than than these two chuckleheads, who seem to look lost at the concept of red wire-head going to red plug-port. Or rather, lost at where to put any of those wires except for the power that's already plugged in, which is why it's merrily displaying static... I haven't seen a tv actually display static in five years.

"Let me try. I think I can get it working."

Five minutes later, after I've realized that no, I really can't, Waver finally digs up the instruction manual, and guides us two chuckleheads through the process of making it work.

A bit later, a random cassette was taken out, loaded into metallic box, and the show started... Rider turned off the light.

Waver, at this point resigned to the fact what the world is mad didn't even shudder when he saw the red eyes of the True Ancestor shining in the darkness.

'Well, I'm glad the boy got over his shyness in regards to me. Then again, he never had issues mouthing off to Rider, no matter how many flicks he received.'

Also I've got perfect nightvision now. I barely noticed when the lights went off. Given that my previous eyes were so incredibly bad that they had to put my age up a category in the computer system to make sure I got the proper prescription, it's sort of a nice feeling to have such crystal clear vision, regardless of the circumstance.

...Actually, it's almost more comfortable with the lights off than with them on. Not in the 'sleepy' kind of way, but like it's just better to do things in the dark. Anything. Doesn't matter what. So, I guess I'm nocturnal now. Arcueid did occasionally complain of being sleepy during the day.

"And what kind of creator that was, to leave a creation untrained, unsupervised, uneducated? Doctor Frankenstein " Waver spat the name as acid while waving his hands around wildly trying to convey his dissatisfaction "Is a goddamn retard and..."

"Sooo.... Arcueid, what has led you to the city?" Iscander interrupted the rant, glancing at you.

There was a little something in the normally cheerful tone of voice the the huge redhead man what conveyed the message; "Halp, I need a distraction."

Frankenstein, huh? Why that movie in particular? Given who I am, I would have expected Dracula if we were doing classic monster movies. Then again, Alexander probably doesn't even know the movie Dracula exists. Or maybe he does. It is a good chunk of another Heroic Spirit's Legend at this point. Speaking of which, it's funny watching this movie, knowing the characters existed at one time in this universe, but were incredibly different.

For one thing, the monster wasn't an adorable cyborg girl in a wedding dress.

Now if only Waver and Alex would shaddup before they go to the special hell reserved for child molestors and people who talk in the theater. This may not be the real movie theater, but dissing the movie in the middle of its running is still disrespectful, Waver Velvet!

...Oh, Rider asked why I'm here. Well, let's see-

'Well, if you want to get technical, I'm here to protect one of your enemies until the object you all are fighting over dies!'

That would be an example of the wrong thing to say. It's true, if I plan on actually following Robert's missive, which I'm still debating the morality of, but it's mostly true. However, there's another true thing I could say that would fit in with their expectations.

"Well, it's partially because of you and the other Eirei." I start, going into the explanation of why I'm here. "I'd heard about this Grail War thing, and it's something unique, from what I understand. I wanted to see it at least once. But there's a more important reason."

I tense, since this is really a 'should I tell them this?' sort of thing, but then I finish.

"That reason is, I'm fairly certain there's at least one Dead Apostle Ancestor currently in the city."

And that's the truth. That raven was probably Gransurg's, The Black Wing Lord. It's possible it wasn't, but given how quickly I ran into these two, I doubt my insane luck would make it some minor character nobody had ever heard of.
