To The Beginning IC: א

The man looks at you for a moment, then woodenly answers your question.

"A flight from Germany came in about twenty minutes ago." He says pointedly. His hand waves over to a screen bolted onto the wall just over a kiosk. The screen displays information on what appears to be all incoming and outgoing flights.
...okay. Might be what I was looking for, after all.

I get up, thank the attendant and leave. I glance at the screen, and it takes me only a couple of seconds to find what I need - the flight's number, the gate it's parked at and the baggage claim unit number (just in case; it's not like I can enter that area anyway).

After that I look at the map of the airport - just for reference.

Then I turn towards the arrivals area (and the airside area of the airport) and look at it.

Thanks to my sensor suite, I can now see and scan all the people in that area within my field of view. Apparently, I can do that through multiple walls, as if they had never been there, without any drop in image quality.

I focus on the target area and start searching for Irisviel von Einzbern. Or Saber, provided it's canon one. Or anything I could recognize, really.

[OOC: This is all I could type up right now.]

"Hey, so yeah. Nero, Marisa, Caster. This is Blackout." And in turn, and I introduce all of them to Blackout.

The Witch Queen saw the giant of steel and wondered if there wasn't some other Magic user that was specialized in Golem creation in this place. However, this was certainly a high-end creation even by the Standards of the Age of gods. And from the words of Nero's Master it seemed at least semi-aware and possessing of a free will. How curious.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Blackout, I am the Caster of this Grail War, though truly I am interested. Were you by chance created by a magician of this land? I didn't think the modern magi could create something of your auality in this age."

"Okay." I accept his answer. Maybe I was being too easy going? Nah.

He looks at me, in what I think is confusion, or a dry look, at my extended hand. At that moment, it kinda hits me, how huge the guy is.

I laughed at the absurdity of the situation. "Yeah, that wouldn't have worked." I take back my hand.

"So, how about I introduction to everyone here?" I say in my normal half-cheerful, half-calm manner.

We head toward the group of Nero, Ze, and Caster. I make sure to hold back from laughing at the surprised look on their faces.

"Hey, so yeah. Nero, Marisa, Caster. This is Blackout." And in turn, and I introduce all of them to Blackout.
I look around with a sigh. Then, I hear an approach, and grin. Tsuna's coming back! I turn towards him... Then, I blink up at the giant robot standing behind him. "Huh, a giant robot?" I say. "Cool!"

I nod at each of the people Silver introduces me to. Caster of Red's question catches me off-guard, but one of the pros of having a supercomputer for brain is thinking up answers real fast.

"Your thoughts would be correct, my creation was neither recent nor local. But as you may have divined, I am no ordinary golem. It would not be incorrect to say that my creator attempted to transplant his consciousness into a more... durable host. Whether he succeeded..."

I shrug my metallic shoulder.

"I do not know."

How interesting, Semiramis couldn't help the thoughts and questions from flittering through her mind.

"A golem designed as an artificial body that would survive for longer than any mortal form. But the way he speaks, either his creator never got around to inserting himself into the body, or something went wrong and the current mind is entirely different from the original. Or maybe he was just a prototype for the true body? Her mind went over multiple possibilities. There were many legends that included these searching for immortality, maybe this mechanical being was a experiment of an ancient hero or villain, like Koschei the Deathless. Maybe he was something created by Hephaistos, which could explain his modern appearance. A masterpiece of a deity wouldn't be created without a way to upgrade or adapt itself.

Maybe it was an attempt to become independent of human worship?

Ah, so many questions, but for now she wouldn't try to bother this one. It didn't look like it seemed to interested in talking.

"So... You're a brain upload, eh?" I asked, and shrugged my shoulders. "Don't be all... Melancholy about it, if you are being that; you are your own person, after all."

"You cannot upload things to the brain, it is a mere receiver, so as to make it possible for the soul to manipulate the body." She corrected distractedly.

I roll my eyes. "I mean an upload from the brain. An' yeah, ya can... Actually, wait. That depends..." I think for a few seconds.

Warily, I stop and try to gauge just what it is that's causing this feeling. Briefly, I think about simply ignoring this and moving on, or alternatively investigating whatever is causing this. Either one has drawbacks, but I have a mission...I guess I'll use the familiar bond and ask Sola to tell Kayneth about this?

"Master? Can you hear me?"

"That was fast." You 'hear' over the link. Her 'voice' showing clear surprise as she speaks to you, the red head puts down a glass of wine on the nightstand next to her bed, muting the television with her free hand as she continues. "I wasn't expecting you this soon, have you found the Einzbern Servant?" She asks curiously, brushing a strand of hair from her face in a nervous tick.

Worryingly, you feel that aura of death and misery beginning to move closer to you. The air is unnaturally still, yet regardless of this fact. A chill runs down your spine. Something terrible this way comes, a thing that intentionally brushes just up against your senses.

You feel something look over you, learning your entirety and finding you wanting.

It begins moving just a bit faster as you converse with your master.

You see the homunculus, Irisviel von Einzbern, easily enough. Her white hair and winter clothing stand out among the traditional Japanese people. Her look of wonderment and childlike glee is clear on her face as she pushes and shoves her way through the crowded station.

Strangely, she is alone. You don't see anyone that resembles the Servant Saber anywhere near her.

The Witch Queen saw the giant of steel and wondered if there wasn't some other Magic user that was specialized in Golem creation in this place. You all hear a loud boom in the dead of night. The night is alight with the orange glow of a fire that rapidly grows into a roaring inferno. The temple residence, those not caught in the blast, wake up with shouts as they all try to figure out just what happened. You can see the peaks of the flames just peering over the top of the roof.

And in the dark of night, she watched. The Assassin remained hidden from physical and magical detection, her ability in concealment almost literally erasing records of her existence. Such is her lot.

Because she is Assassin, the knife in the dark, not one of the knight classes capable of fighting honorably. Hers shall always be the role hidden behind the curtain of darkness. Unfit to even be cannon fodder for the heroes to slay on the way to the real villain.

She had been tempted to assist the innocents caught in the crossfire of war, but her 'masters' orders were clear. Suss out the location of the enemy masters, and eliminate them if possible. Though such acts go against the tenets of her order. The assassin obeyed.

I sit up with a gasp. Holy crap! This is happening! I need to help! With a thought, I stand up and run, with my new clothes catching on me strangely. It honestly feels not that good. Now, I know what it feels like for women. But I ran.

Looking around, I saw a broom, and reached out to grab it, instinctively sitting on top of it - must have some muscle memory. I put magic into it, it flowing out of my body, and then I... flew.

Any description I could give you has no good description. The closest I could think is... Exhilarating. But that's not it.

I fly towards the explosion quickly.

This thing...I'll probably fight it, though I'll first see if I can't get it to engage other Servants at the same time. Maybe I'll lead it to the Tohsaka mansion afterwards? Having Gilgamesh, hopefully, skewer the thing would be easiest, though my chances of winning or escaping him are slim.

"In case of there being more such things or if it somehow defeats me, I thought it prudent to forewarn you in case of an attack on your location."

...It felt, like, for second I blacked out - but then, the sensation was gone.

It seems, the day was catching up with me. Perhaps, I need to rest for a bit. Silver can surely handle everything... And so, with apologies, I retreated to the temple in order to rest for a bit.

***

I woke up with a start, in the darkness of the unfamiliar room; disoriented and confused, not a little bit scared from the sudden overhelming noise.

Where was I? Where are my guards? Why my own body felt clumsy and unfamiliar?

It took less than a moment for my eyes to adapt; and the picture before me I saw with a clarity unknown to me in years was likewise strange; a small eastern-style room, the red dress thrown carelessly on the floor...

It's all clicked in my head, and I almost sighned.

Spirited away in a different world, different body, Grail War, other people like me, Lancer, Rider, the invitation, my new contract and comrades...

I almost groaned for a second, but then the persistent noise and smell of burning wood remainded what I had more pressing issues than mourning my current situation.

Without any particular idea of what happened or was happening or why Ryuudoi temple was burning or even how much time has passed since I left, I felt a tingle of fear grip me as I summoned my sword, and silently stormed outside of my room, preparing to deal with whatever obstacle will stand before me.

Imperial Privilege; Presence Concealment; Sphere Boundary, Vitrification, Instinct, Presence Detection

As I quickly slide out of my room, fast but almost literally impossible to notice, I take not of the people present in the temple; my Master, Caster, and possibly any other Servants nearly. On a second note, I send a message, a though to my partner.

"Silver, are you alright? Where is the enemy? Using the presence concealment, trying to find the perpetrator; be careful."

Without a doubt, this is an enemy attack - but it's not an attack against a Servant; simple fire will fail to properly harm a Servant. This must be aimed against a Master; or, perhaps, a distraction...

This looks like the work of Assasin; theoretically, Lancer also should be capable of this, but this doesn't seems like his work. If he didn't ambushed me before, when he had the opportunity, why now?

Though, a number of my own guests could be likewise capable of this. A betrayal, perhaps?
...
I don't want to even consider that, but this is possible. Regardless, I will know whoever did this... And then the punishment will be carried out.

Memories flowing through a mind, thoughts of the past, of things long lost, of friends gained, of battles fought. The one who had taken the name of Reverie Metherlence slept sound and calmly, finally resting from the various strains of the last day.

That though, wasn't meant to continue for long.

----

My eyes opened at the sound of explosions. I grumbled angrily, trying to cover my face with the pillow in hope of continuing my precious sleep.

"Coud, I swear I am strangling you if you don't let me sleep. And I don't care if Kuea put you up to this damn it...", I mumbled sleepily, rubbing my eyes even while I heard voices calling outside. There was something about a fire. If he had put the Airship on fire again, I swear he had something coming.

Then I noticed that the first inconsistencies. Although I was lying in a western style bed, the room looked more like a guest room than anything else. Memories of the last day flooded through my mind and I remembered what had happened, Who I was.

I wasn't just Reverie Metherlence, I was also '*')/%$/&, also known as Heaven Canceler in certain forums. I had to protect Saber and had allied myself to Servant Nero, who was quite likely the current Saber and if not, probably worth the alliance and potential chances.

Another call for help was heard and I could see flames further away when looking out of the window.

I blinked in confusion, my hair still ruffled and mind still half asleep.

"They have set the Temple on fire?" It was not quite a statement, but there wasn't really anyone to ask. I couldn't even be sure, since I could only see a small part of the temple, but it looked like there had been some kind of explosion.

I couldn't quite say if the entire Temple was on fire, but I thought at least the parts that I could see were burning. And I could smell smoke moving from further down as I stepped out into the hallway. A monk stepped around a corner, looking shocked and fearful. He turned to me and looked at me with big eyes.

"Lady, you have to get out, the Temple is burning." He pushed me away while saying something about going to try saving as many of the old scrolls as possible.

Ancient Prayers? Or historic scrolls? I knew that this Temple had been founded by people that had been taught by a real honest to god Dragon, which were equal to the biggest gods in this world.

I felt a flicker of rage at whoever had done this. They weren't only attacking ground held by peaceful monks, holy ground if I understood it right, but they were also doing it in a chaotic and dangerous way that risked the destruction of the entire area.

"Caster, can you hear me?"

At the same time, the Servant of Magic was looking at the flames in shock and going through a spell to locate her Master. Her abilities should be more than enough to protect her from any further harm, unless she got hurt by the initial attack.

"Master? How are you? You should immediately leave the Temple area."

I shook my head and tried to think even while the monk tried to drag me to the outside.

"No, wait a moment."

I stopped, ignoring the pushing and dragging of the Monk while trying to think. They attacked us, but hadn't engaged anyone? Caster would have mentioned otherwise, right? So what were these guys doing? They wanted to confuse us I guess, shock us, get us outside where they can hit us from afar. Normally that would mean Archer, but that one was Gilgamesh and that one was far above such petty things as surprise attacks. He would simply go in through the main door and declare loudly that he will slaughter all his enemies.

"This looks really strongly like some kind of trick attack, they are trying to get us to show ourselves when vulnerable. This kind of attack is not anything that could kill a skilled magus. But it would annoy them enough to leave the Temple house."

Put aside that it coudl actually hurt me, but if it got so bad that it would risk myself, I would grab random dude #13 and invoke the contract. Honestly, getting a random person as a Pledger would suck, but it was still better than dying or getting caught in a bad position. Caster frowned but nodded. She had of course considered this, but had come to the conclusion that her Master would still be saver outside and close to her.

"Caster, I want you to get here and do your best to stop the fire before it can destroy the temple. Call rain or something like that, it should be within your abilities, right?"

Semiramis considered this; it would certainly cost a respectable amount of power, so she hadn't thought it important enough to do. In this war, all uses of energy had to be considered. You never knew when you would need every shred of your strength.

But what if it kept her Master hidden and she was indeed capable of defending them both.

Servant Caster turned to the others that were still present.

"I am going to try keeping the Fire under control; my Master doesn't want to leave the Temple. She thinks someone is trying to drag us out."

With this the former Queen activated her Presence Concealment, becoming nothing but a wisp barely visible for even a moment. Magic filled the air, spells being chanted by the invisible woman. Since she wasn't attacking anyone, she could keep up her Presence Concealment. That should also make it harder for her to be ambushed while doing her work.

Let us see how long these flames can stand against magic from the Age of Gods.

Well, I found her at last.

Irisviel is really like a child sometimes... although I shouldn't be surprised, considering her upbringing and her actual age. Heck, even before the ch- the event that brought me here I would be twice as old as her (although the gap in mental maturity would be rather small, if existing at all).

In fact, were I here under a different circumstances, I would not be so different. It's a different country, with a different, previously unknown to me culture. How would I be not excited?!

...Ahem. I'm digressing here.

Still, I don't think I saw Arturia here. Not that that's surprising, considering... well, all the events that transpired and all the people that appeared here within the last six hours. It's likely that Kiritsugu ended up summoning a different Saber-class servant. I should not trust my meta-knowledge (however little I have).

That means that if I want to find Saber, I should start looking for [SERVANT] energy signatures. I've seen a few Servants already (and scanned them, too), so it should not be much of a problem. Well, unless they are astralized. Or using Presence Concealment. I'm not sure how my sensor package would stack up against that.

I move closer to the arrivals area, to the doors where Irisviel is most likely to exit.

I ping 'Reverie' and Caster telepathically.

"I located my client. Status?"

I ping 'Reverie' and Caster telepathically.

"I located my client. Status?"

"What huh? Oh, it is you. I am busy right now, someone set a bomb or something in the Temple and now the entire place is burning. I told Caster to try extinguish the fire, but that could take a bit. Be careful out there, I think there may be someone who is hunting us..."

I paused shortly to dodge backwards from a door I opened and through which I could see flames billowing wildly. The Monk which I had somehow talked into letting me help him groaned. Apparently that was one of the storage places for the older documents of the Temple. I felt a Little sorry for him, but honestly, I would be happy if we could even stop this place from breaking down.

"Sorry for letting you hang there, This Temple was founded by People that were taught by a honest to god Dragon. So I am looking to save any People caught in the fire and get the older texts in case they have something actually useful."

I could feel Caster joining our conversation. Her presence seemed... muted, like she had a blanket over her head and only showed her eyes to me. Maybe it came from her presence concealment?

"I am almost where you are Master. Killy, right? If would suggest looking for any dangerous individuals. This attack Looks too calculated, whoever did this may be after you too, or maybe after whoever your Client is."

OOC: Did we ever tell each other who our objectives are? I cannot remember.

An attack?

To here, of all places?

Against a gathering of power like this, they must be either stupid, ignorant or confident.

/SENSOR MATRIX ONLINE/

With an almost audible hum I flare my sensor array with enough power that no mortal cloaking method would conceal the perpetrator from me. Should it return without information on the attacker, that means it's either someone who has devised and perfected countermeasures to Sonar, IR, Electromagnetic, about 15 types of radar and 73 other sensors, or it's Assassin.

Now, as for these fires...

/XV-103A3 CRYO MISSILES DEPLOYED/

A compartment opens on my right shoulder, revealing two missile pods. With a mental command, two dozen missiles empty out of them, streaking through the air before detonating mid-air over the fire and spraying the flames with blue-white liquid that frozen anything it touched.

You move, and it follows just behind. It, whatever it is, is fast, faster than you would have imagined a formless, shapeless horror that you haven't brought yourself to look upon yet. In the time it takes for Sola-Ui to confirm that she heard you, the two of you were sprinting across the city at breath taking speeds. The buildings of the city become as a colorful blur as you and it perform your merry little chase. Yet you are always aware, one wrong move will mean it catches up with you. A wrong turn, a step just a millisecond off, and you will have to confront it. Your honed abilities are stressed as you lead the monstrosity around, just ever so slightly out of reach.

You can feel waves of burning, roiling hatred just rolling off of its body. A churning mass of physical malevolence that makes your stomach gurgle unpleasantly just being in the presence of such a thing. A queasiness that threatens to turn you green with sickness as you flee. It is a great beast of filth, death, and decay, and it seems to be focused just on you. Concrete shatters as it chases, it runs down signs and breaks down walls and cars that get in its way.

You don't sense any servants as it chases after you, and it doesn't seem to have any signs of letting up. All you feel is the overwhelming evil that spills from the creature like a cursed fountain.

I sit up with a gasp. Holy crap! This is happening! I need to help! With a thought, I stand up and run, with my new clothes catching on me strangely. It honestly feels not that good. Now, I know what it feels like for women. But I ran.

You fly towards the explosion as people burn and die around you. The burning temple fills the air with so much smoke that you have some trouble seeing anything from the air. Fire spreads quickly, ignoring the monk's attempts to put the blaze out with what water they can muster. You can't get very close to the center of the blaze as you grow nearer, the smoke becoming a black mist that threatens to choke the life out of you, magic or no.

In fact, when you look at it, there almost seems to be shapes within the mist. The Dancing figures entice you, and you know. Maybe it's not so bad. Just leap in and help the people. There must surely be some survivors, all you have to do is go in and see for yourself.

You feel raindrops on your head. Ignore them!

...It felt, like, for second I blacked out - but then, the sensation was gone.

Your rest has granted you a reprieve from the headache that you would normally suffer from by the sudden onslaught of senses. Something's ping as your privilege to a spymaster becomes a temporary reality. You can barely feel it, buried beneath the horrifying other that dominates your senses. Like a pebble hidden in the sand, the arid breeze of the Mediterranean.

The flapping of wings in the noisy city.

Yet the sheer presence of the other calls your attention. It does not, cannot, force the Emperor to grant it attention, but it is persuasive indeed. It's terrifying to your senses. It is similar to the air your mother had about her, or the heaviness that lingered in the room your stepbrother was found. You are reminded of when you first heard the news of Seneca's suicide, or murder as some in the modern age suspect.

The Emperor of Rome steps outside into the lightly pouring rain. You can feel the smoke and the thing beginning ot dissipate just a little bit. You make way towards your destination and…

Casters magic fills the air and rain clouds form over the blaze as per Casters instructions. You can hear the pitter patter of rain against the roof of the temple, and you can see the quickly forming puddles of water and the steam that rises into the air. It swiftly joins the harsh black smoke that attempts to choke the sky. The fire seems to simmer for a moment, almost dying. And then it hatefully claws back.

The magic of your servant is ruthlessly combatted by whatever seems to have started here. Assimilated, Subverted, fought tooth and nail by some monstrous creature. You can see tiny sparks in the air, lightning blasting in the sky like the wrath of god. It streaks across the sky above in dazzling patterns, striking the ground when it can. For every strike a smaller fire is born, not nearly on the level of the larger explosion.

You feel, something big hiding in the darkness. There's a sense of absolute dread lingering about, but you can't seem to pinpoint it's exact location. You've got a general idea of where it's at, and the temple isn't that large. Surely you could find it.

Nero seems to be contacting you through your link.

Your suite of detection goes absolutely haywire. Pinning hundreds, no, thousands of targets. One of your programs even glitches out, the process halting as it tries to process information over and over again.

Your cryogenic missiles burst open and spray their payload all over the roaring fire like a damn suddenly burst open. You can hear a delightful hot sizzling noise as the liquid freezes the ground, see little flaky crystals as it freezes the moisture in the air, watch as wood is engulfed in frost as the liquid freezes.

Your sensors go ballistic as they begin to detect threats everywhere. Above, Below, to the left, to the right, even as your missiles do their work you can swear that you feel a malevolent presence around you. Even more programs begin to shut down as they detect threats that multiply. You can't see anything other than the fire before you, and with a final ping. All the threats suddenly vanish.

One of your sensors registers a threat right behind you.

Status?"

Your package detects nothing but Irisviel. Still pushing people out of the way but making good progress as she gets closer to the arrivals area.

Ouch, you don't think that was entirely necessary. The poor guy was just waiting in line.

The girl, for having never left the mansion, navigates through the people like a pro though. And she makes better progress than anyone in a busy airport has the right to. She makes it to the arrival bay, and is quickly heading out towards the parking garage.

Off in the distance, you think you can see something that looks like smoke coming from the temple.

I blink. Then, I shake my head. "Dammit..." I growl. I can't go in there... it's way too thick to enter that smoke! But there has to be some way to get in there and save people!

"Well, this is troublesome." I mutter to myself. This thing shows no signs of giving up, and I can't fire off Balmung here. I continue running, though I begin to slowly change directions to lead it towards the church and the Tohsaka mansion. As I run, I sneak off a look behind me to get a look at just what it is that's chasing me.

Fuck. That has got to be Assassin.

In a feat of engineering Lockheed Martin and Boeing would weep tears of envy if they were to witness it, the main rotor on my back jumps from zero to hundred in a fraction of a second, sending a blast of wind strong enough to stop a charging rhino behind me.

Whilst I do that, my head rises from it's usual slight-hunchback position, before spinning 180 degrees, allowing me to look behind myself whilst whilst my body rotates to match it, weapons deployed.

The golden king laughs at your statement. Another volley of weapons fires from Bab-ilu.

"Faker, for a no name hero you have quite an inflated opinion of yourself."

Dyrnwyn, Hauteclere, Ame-no-nuboko, Ashbringer, and more surpass the speed of sound twice over and rush at you like a stream of bullets.

And then your senses scream at you as a fountain of magical flame courses through the air from the tip of a jeweled staff. A man in red chants an incantation, a magic circle of blue and orange floating in front of his catalyst.

A magic far more powerful than could be accomplished normally, while by no means a once in a hundred years prodigy, Tohsaka Tokiomi possesses a substantial amount of magic circuits of exceptional quality. The strength of the magic can only be attributed to his mastery of jewelcraft. Jewels containing prana saved up over a life time.

A magical flame powered by a dozen A Rank spells snakes its way towards you. The rain of swords continues hailing down upon you as Master and Servant maintain their attack.
I'm being attacked from two sides. To be hit by either would be certain death. Death is not an option.

Rather than take on the flames and swords I dodge. I jump and retreat at the same time while tracing my own counters to Gilgamesh's swords and firing them.

"Please Mr. Tohsaka," I plead one last time "I am here to ensure you survive the Grail war. I do not want to do this."

While I say this I make sure all my Magic Circuits are circulating energy. I was being powered by the Earth so I might as well put myself in the position to use that bountiful energy. I certainly have an advantage in the prana side of things.

If Tohsaka still refuses, I'll have little choice but to engage Gilgamesh.

I could feel the heat, burning the air around me and heating up every part of my body. The flames were no longer occasional and only seemed to grow in number even with the rain. I coughed, my throat feeling horribly dry. I blinked, bowing deeper while trying to find breathable air. I heard an explosion far away, probably outside where the rain could reach. What was going on?

A bumping sound distracted me and I looked back. My eyes widened as I saw the monk that had come with me lying on the ground, obviously unconscious. Why? I could still breathe and people in movies always went...

I grit my teeth as I considered what I was just thinking. Movies? Movies were full of bullshit and I should have known that I couldn't trust them with guiding me through this. I could probably still breathe because I wasn't quite what one would call human. Sure, my body was probably still quite similar, but my biology was powered by the Erementar Gerad on my forehead if I remembered right. And I regained power from sleeping of all things.

How many people were dying because of this fire, how many lives were destroyed just because me and others decided to take the temple as a temporary headquarter?

A flash of light appeared as I moved over the monk and tried to move him. I turned and saw Caster behind a wall of smoke that was starting to fill every angle of the Temple and even the sky above.

"Master, we have to leave this place, the flames are not normal. We cannot fight in this situation and even if this is a trap, outside we will be saver."

My mouth opened and closed as I listened to her. I couldn't help but think that she was right. There was no way we could defeat this fire... fire... fire?

A memory flittered through my mind, of a very strange man who collected Edil Raids to gain one of each attribute. He had been quite dangerous and ridiculously skilled, capable of fusing with two different types and combining their abilities. He was a member of Edil Garden, that unforgivable organization that had taken my close friend. But that wasn't what was important. He had also given a strange lecture about the different types of Edil Raids because of his eccentric personality.

And then he and all of his partners were killed by another member the organization for keeping too many Edil Raids bound to one person.

But what was important was the lecture.

Edil Raids were aligned with attributes, Wind, Earth, Wisdom, Darkness, Motion, Beauty, Shield and many more existed. Four rings with 6 attributes each aligned to be stronger and weaker to one of the others.

They didn't really make sense given normal physics, Fire being strong against Water and that being strong against the Tree? It was a bit ridiculous, but it worked.

I moved to Caster, holding onto the monk.

"Caster, I want to make a contract with you."

The woman blinked, obviously not having expected such words. She looked at me questioningly, but didn't say anything against me. It was obvious that she was curious about what was going on.

Normally I would hold off on doing this, but maybe I could do something useful in this place of death and destruction.

I then remembered that I would need some of her blood for the contract to be invoked. It was somewhat awkward to ask someone like Caster to cut herself so I could have a few drops of the red fluid, but the former Queen was surprisingly nonchalant about it. The flames around us hissed, but Caster had already formed a barrier, though it looked like the flames would fight their way through it given enough time.

Another barrier, born from a strong wind formed as my bloodied finger drew a circle around us.

"On a night with a full moon, while feeling you who are inside me, I reveal the beautiful night."

I should probably be embarrassed by this whole thing, but currently I was too busy trying to formulate some way to stop this catastrophe.

"Delicate Breath that we shared. Soul's promise that we shared."

The words flowed from me and Caster looked on, observing everything with great care. She obviously was learning quite a bit from seeing me do the contract.

"I flow them into you with my soul's moon light."

A sign appeared on Caster's forehead for a moment, glowing before vanishing again.

"So that we will stay together forever."

My body vanished, forming what was closer to a great sword of win.
"That was... impressive, but I have to say that I am not really one for swords."

I knew that, if I needed a perfect partner I would have searched for a Saber class Servant.

"Attempt to channel my wind with your magecraft, counter the flames with it, but do get us a good bit away from here in case it doesn't work."

She blinked in surprise.

"Using Wind to counter fire, why would...." She paused, seemingly considering my words and frowning. It was not hard to see that she didn't think it would work this easily, but she seemed to accept since I had already transformed for this.

Invisible forces grabbed the monk and he trailed after us as we moved away from the buildings, only to turn around and Caster to begin another chant.

I remember it now, Wind aligned Edil Raids were part of the first Glitter Ring, they were weak against Earth and strong against Fire.

I could only hope that this would also work when translated to this world's magic.

PS: Maybe this works, maybe it doesn't, but hey I can always try^^ Do I have to roll any dice or something?

The image comes into view as you turn around. With her golden hair, her peculiar apparel, and her broom at her side. There's no doubt that the person standing in front of you is Marisa. Her hair whips backwards by the winds that you blow at her, the tiled blocks on the ground is ripped from its resting place and flung to and fro, blasted into so much powder whenever they dare to threaten the witch.

However the winds do nothing to affect her abilities to move her arms, and you see a twisted, sadistic smile grow on her face as she blasts yet another stone block into dust, this one over penetrating and flying just beyond your head, crashing into the main building with a thunderous roar. You can hear people screaming and dying as they suffer from the after effects of the blast. A great section of wall collapse without its support.

Maintaining her grin, you see her reach out to you, and a talisman of some kind manifests her hand. A black energy is drawn into the object in a great spiral, a whirlpool in an ocean as your sensors indicate by the slight weakening of the fire.

There's a sickening feeling building within you as Caster performs her task. The wind magic channeled through your new body works, barely. Owing no small part to Casters magical skill, the magic seems to be able to deal with the fire better than the rain, however there's something wrong. You feel as if you're between two colliding worlds as intrinsic mechanics begin fighting to assert dominance over one another, a rubber band constantly stretched, snapped into place, and then stretched again.

But even as the fire is affected, you can sense a bubbling malice behind it. This blaze is nothing ordinary, even when taking into account that magic may have created it. There is clearly an attribute of fire to it, but there is something so much more, the difference between a watch and a sundial. Caster wrestles with the two mechanics, working with the ebb and toe of the tide as dominance is switched again and again. Any lesser magus would have been killed by the magic backlash, may have found themselves stuck in another world, or simply erased from their own.

Then suddenly you hear a loud boom, and the wall right next to you collapses in a heap. You can feel the lingering effects of magic in the air. The source, a blond haired witch.

I blink. Then, I shake my head. "Dammit..." I growl. I can't go in there... it's way too thick to enter that smoke! But there has to be some way to get in there and save people!

You look and look, but the smoke surrounds you, embraces you as if it has a life of its own. You can feel greater malice than any Youkai has ever possessed. Amidst the smothering smoke, a faint glimmer of light reveals itself. Glowing brighter and brighter with an almost dazzling display of colors. You could look at it for hours, like a pretty firework display.

So pretty. You should really just stay and watch.

You feel an arrow brush against your cheek as a sudden wind pushes you ever so slightly out of the way. Inside the smoke, you can see a dozen more of these bright lights appearing, and coming fast if the rate their brightness is growing is an indication!

"Well, this is troublesome." I mutter to myself. This thing shows no signs of giving up, and I can't fire off Balmung here. For a moment Tokiomi looks as if he is about to sacrifice yet another jewel to the cause of killing you, but then he looks completely confused and immediately turns to look out the window. Gilgamesh keeps up his casual, lazy assault while he readies two swords in his hands.

The festivities are canceled by a loud crash as a white haired guy and… something else busts through the gates of the mansion.

My eyes widen, and I hiss "Archer!" I think. I attempt to dodge through the arrows...

You dodge magnificently as streaks of light attempt to skewer you at every turn. Whomever is firing these arrows at you kicks it up a notch, and one arrow bursts into hundreds with a swell of magical energy.
I curse. Attempting to dodge further, I take out my mini-hakkero - the one I've inherited - and whisper the words "Love Sign: Master Spark!" I aim it at the source and set loose the laser.

OOC: Former dice is for the Master Spark, latter is for Dodging.
Borrowing threw 2 100-faced dice. Reason: Dodging and Master Spark Total: 107

Marisa?

One of the upsides of being a robot was that you had plenty of time to think.

There are two possibilities; either that is the real Marisa, or it isn't.

If that isn't the real Marisa, which I find likely considering her current line of action and expression, I'm going to have to kill her.

If that is Marisa, well, she's either gone evil or being controlled, and that means she'll have to be stopped. My ability to non-lethally subdue her isn't great and I don't have particularly strong emotional attachment to her, so the course of action will be the same.

Then there's the chance that she is an illusion of some sort, but then again, as far as I'm aware most things in Nasuverse that could accomplish that work through mental manipulation, and seeing as I'm a robot? Yeah... and her magic seems to be real enough, if the tiles are anything to go by... unless that's part of the illusion too.

Regardless, I need a plan.

My size puts me at a disadvantage in dodging whatever attack she'd charging up, and I don't particularly wish to test how my shields stand up to it, so it appears that the old saying rings true: offense is the best defense.

Technology-based arsenal is rarely optimal for combatting the supernatural, so my best option lies in out-multitasking her.

I wonder, can she stop these...

Four gatling guns pop out of my chest, sending a torrent of metal spikes at the witch at velocities human equivalents could only dream of.

...and these...

My right hand morphed into it's weapons state, sending a bolt of plasma equivalent to an artillery shell at Marisa, immediately followed by an equivalent sonic blast. A shield that blocks heat and kinetic energy does nothing to stop soundwaves, after all.

...whilst avoiding these...

Two dozen additional missiles streaked out from my missile pods, scattering into the air with their flight paths programmed to strike Marisa from all sides but the front, ready to follow the target should she attempt to dodge. These ones were fitted with Frag warheads, each of them filled with hundreds of tiny metal fragments to tear flesh. As far as I know Marisa is as squishy as an ordinary human, in which case even a few hitting would be more than enough to take her out, and if she wasn't? Try aiming that thing at me with shrapnel in your eyes.

...whilst continuing to anchor herself to the floor and protecting herself...

My main rotor continued to buffet wind at her, ripping more tiles out of the floor.

...and keep charging that thing?

My shield generators hummed in anticipation, and my servo-motors were ready for a dodge the second she indicated she was firing. Perhaps I would not be able to entirely avoid whatever attack might be coming, but turning it into a glancing blow would help, and by sloping my shields I could take off the brunt of the attack.
