Tip of the Spear (Mass Effect/Supreme Commander)

This bit made me snigger.

On a side note, the snippet made me think of Eclipse Phase (not totally sure why), and I am now wondering whether the Cybrans have something like a reaper morph in their arsenal...

(Hoping for it as a future squadmate)
Unless Tikitau changes it in his interpretation of the Cybrans, they don't switch bodies like that. At best, you might get something similar to EDI's mech-avatar in ME3, ie a Cybran controlling one (or possibly even several) mechs or vehicles from a remote location.

I didn't think they'd be switching bodies either, but there's nothing stopping them making a combat platform like a reaper morph and deploying it like a more effective LOKI mech.
After all, the LOKI is bloody awful (and I seem to remember something in the ME2 codex saying they were used mainly for civilian security by companies too penny-pinching to shell out for proper security staff. The only reason they were in military use is that Sovereign and the geth killed a lot of soldiers during their assault on the Citadel).

As for the justification for a completely non-human-looking combat platform, well, the central disc has a better surface-area-to-volume-ratio than the human form and is therefore easier to armour. Four prehensile limbs are a better mode of locomotion than two, and can still deploy various graspers and useful tools from the tips. Finally, the weapons can be fired from cover with almost complete impunity, because the morph can crouch far closer to the ground than a human and just stick the guns over the top.

Plus, it just seems to fit with the Cybran methods of fighting - remote-controlled, highly-effective combat drone with an onboard AI for when it gets jammed, and the distinctive appearance is a lot more intimidating than a humanoid mech, especially once it's gained a reputation. For a real nightmare, realise that the Cybrans use lots of cloaking, so they're invisible as well. So are the infrared lasers they're firing. Good luck sleeping :D!

I think you'll like the Codex Entry for the Cybran military when/if Tikitau ever gets around to writing it. Keep in mind, though, that a lot of the LOKI mech's shittiness undoubtedly comes from their extremely sub-par armament and VI programming. Give them a proper military weapon and a decent VI/AI that makes full use of their humanoid frame's agility and range of movement, and their threat level would raise quite a bit, probably on roughly the same level as Geth Troopers or Mercenary Mooks.

Everything about them is sub-par, from their software to their hardware, LOKI's are real bottom of the barrel stuff when it comes to security. Remember, LOKI's are specifically made to be cheap security, like 'made in china' cheap.

The way I see it, LOKI mechs are just the ME version of those Trade Federation droids from Star Wars. Their just slightly more competent because their VI is so bland and doesn't give them the personality of an idiot.

Thank you very much for that. I do not need the mental image of Jack 'strongest human biotic ever' boosted by symbiont implants, potentially backed up by the other surviving subjects of that program.
:D

The idea of Jack as a Symbiont is mildly terrifying. Absurdly highend biotics coupled the with hacking abilities of an AI would be very, very dangerous. I don't think the Cybrans would force her to become a symbiont (unless this is one of the really nasty nodes) but if they provide a support structure for her while she recovers, she may want to go that route. . ..
Actually, the reason you should fear Jack-The-Symbiont has nothing to do with the hacking ability, although that would be scary enough.

Keep in mind, humans actually using biotics depend on nervous system control via memetic actions or something like that. I think. If I'm reading the codex entry correctly. Anyways.

Twining Process. AI Implants. Melded directly to the nervous system.

Thanks. TIM can get angry, but he doesn't seem the Throwing Tantrums Angry sort, so...figured it would work because it's fairly understated? Yeah. Made me laugh, tho'.

As for remote platforms for future squadmates....

Isn't that just basically a monkeylord? Because I fully endorse the ideas of monkeylords. And frankly several other iconic units making their appearance. Yeah they might be drones but these drones still managed to have more personality than some of the living characters in the game. Case in point: Aforementioned Monkeylord, Fatboy and Czar.
