Timber! [Naruto - Male SI]

An example, SI's are generally always wish fulfilments, but is that reason enough to go overboard. Do you (in case of SI) really need an OP gimmick to be interesting?
I like to think less is more and yet I'm catching myself giving the character a small gimmick in the next chapter, but at the same time, I'm trying to convince myself that it's necessary for the character to survive in his new world.
Personally, I feel a low-key method that ensures his life and mind is the best route to go and let him work on power on his own. Something like plot-armor / luck / fate that protects the SI from the worst Bad Ends as long as he's not solely relying on it (taking stupid risks, not putting effort, not training, etc...? he'll fail.) Basically this allows the SI to not have to train 24/7, constantly worrying about OP locals figuring out his nature and capturing him, or trying to gain power any means necessary.

In a way most SIs kind of has it since most of us aren't good enough to hide from observant locals who should be able to notice things and interrogate us (maybe casually in a way we don't even notice instead of literally depending on the setting). A Chunin who noticed his training in his room who has been his caretaker since before he was two would know he never had the opportunity to learn the training methods, words, etc... that he's used for example. Let alone the SIs who somehow fool T&I shinobi, the Hokage, and other similarly experienced people.

Sure, some OP SI stories can be really fun to read (usually when they're not written entirely seriously), but overall seeing the SI work for it is more fun. They don't even need to be able to train to the level of the MCs or main villains, as long as they're able to train up to a reasonable level (a reincarnate with metaknowledge should be able to be more advanced than the average but not necessarily be as powerful as those with inborn talents or plot-guarantees) it's fine.

Chapter 1.7.2
Chapter 1.7.2

"Good morning everybody, my name is Daikoku Funeno and depending on your performance today you will call me Daikoku-sensei."

I stood in line with a dozen children my age from the various orphanages in Konoha.
It seems like this was another reason why Shinobi actually ran these facilities.
Next to raising the children, they apparently were supposed to weed out those with potential and gently discourage those without.

Remembering Danzo staring at me, I had the feeling that orphans with real tangible potential, like high chakra reserves or lineage, were whisked away for a more streamlined education.
I had no idea if it was true and if yes to what extent something like this was done under the radar or maybe even condoned.

The guy that would hopefully become my sensei had a jovial air around him as he gazed at us.
The kids standing with me in front of the academy, that famous swing behind us, were naturally giddy and nervous.
I could easily admit that I was getting antsy to get finally on with it.

"We will start the day inside with a small test, stay together and follow me."

He turned and we followed him in a neat line. It was a quiet walk to a random classroom, the children were still too nervous for chatter.

We stopped before the teacher's desk, to our left the rows of seats meant for the students.

Daikoku grabbed a sheet of paper from the front row.

"I want you all to find a place to sit down with such a paper in front of you."

We nodded, went up the stairs and dispersed ourselves among the rows.
The papers were distributed in a way that there was always an empty place between each potential student.

The moment everybody took their seat Daikoku continued his explanation.

"In front of you, you will find one sheet of paper and one pencil." He paused a second.

"This is meant to test your reading and comprehension. On the front page is a small story, which you will have to read and understand.
On the backside are five questions about the story."

He paused again and looked for questions among the kids.

"You have 15 minutes, when you are done please bring your paper to my desk and return to your place."

That said, he pointed towards the clock above the blackboard.

"It's exactly eight o'clock, you may begin now."

'During the Warring States Period, ninja were organized into small mercenary clans that knew nothing but battle.
The two strongest of these clans were the Senju and the Uchiha, who had warred against each other for their entire histories…'

'Madara was ultimately defeated at what would be called the Valley of the End…'

I was reading and re-reading the story intently. I wasn't about to make some dumb mistake because of overconfidence in a village where underneath the underneath was preached.

'Where was Madara Uchiha defeated?'

I scribbled my answers, checked and double-checked and delivered my paper at the teacher's desk where Daikoku gave me a nod, which I returned.

It was now twenty past eight and Daikoku was currently grading the last tests.
The kids were understandably in various states of nervousness given that this might have been their very first test.

I saw Daikoku put down his red pencil and sat straight again.
Suddenly a chunin with an eye-patch walked in and Daikoku handed him a paper with what I believed were the results of this little test.
That done and the guy disappeared as fast as he came.

"Good, next we will test your fitness so please follow me to the training ground behind the building."

He got up and waited for us at the door to form a line again.

We were greeted by an empty field surrounded by a running track and a small forest behind it.

To our right, the chunin from early seemed to fill out a scoreboard. Confident regarding my test unlike some of the kids I kept my focus on Daikoku in front of us.

He cleared his throat and a few kids whipped their heads around with a guilty expression.

"You see behind me a track with about 220 yards. To get the full points you will have to run 10 laps in 15 minutes."

We lined up at the starting line.

"Go!"

And we were on our way. I decided to stay with the pack for the first few yards to judge their tempo and increased it accordingly afterward.
I heard two or three kids trying to keep pace with me, but that was going to change soon given their panting not even two laps in.

Without chakra I had a feeling this would have been a slight struggle after my initial training, but the way it was now it just was effortless.
Restraining myself I refrained from sprinting past the poor kids at full-speed.

Completing my ten laps I came to stop near Daikoku.

He leafed a second through his papers and made a quick note.

"That was really impressive Daiki-kun."

"Thank you Daikoku-san."

"You already unlocked your chakra, didn't you?" No beating around the bush.

"Yes, I always wanted to become a shinobi and trained accordingly.
Hifumi-neesan thought it safer to guide me instead of letting me experiment on my own." A nod and he put down another quick note on probably my file.

I chanced a glance towards the scoreboard.

I saw my name and next to it a 25, which I guess were the full points of the written test.
Next to the 25, I saw a 20, which probably meant 2 points for each completed lap in the stated time.

Somewhat satisfied I waited with Daikoku in silence for the other kids to finish.
Towards the end, I swallowed a grimace when a few of them collapsed to the ground in tears totally spent knowing they might have blown their chances.

What followed in the next half an hour was a few exercises with basically the same results.
This led to me, two other boys and a girl, who made the cut waiting in the classroom we took our test in.

Glad that I didn't have to watch some of the drama that was probably happening in front of the academy with the failed prospects, their caretakers and I guess Daikoku-sensei I leaned back in my seat and breathed a small sigh of relief.

A moment later the man walked back in again, but this time he had a young woman with black hair and glasses with him.

"First of all, congratulations to all of you. You made your first step in becoming a proud shinobi of the leaf." He said with a big genuine smile, which I couldn't help but return.

"This is Suzume-sensei," She gave a stiff nod in greeting. "she will help and teach you in the coming month to settle in your new life."

I hope people can still somewhat enjoy the pace of the story because I might intend to keep things the way they are as long as the MC is this young.

Small chunks detailing everyday life, behind the scenes looks and conceivable explanations for chakra-related stuff.

I know it's difficult to start a discussion without a dramatic plot or far-reaching decisions, but I would love to see some thoughts.

So far I like the current pace. Showing his training but also using it as a way of showcasing other characters works well for me. Maybe have some out of training stuff or plots not in the academy?

Though make sure not to just make it all about training ;)

I personally dislike the SI stories that goes too quickly to age 12. Although no need to write 100k words about his time in the academy either.

Hope that was somewhat helpful.

I think it's fine to take it slow. I also think that if that's the case, you should focus on interpersonal moments as well as training. It would help prevent the story from becoming monotonous.
That being said, I have greatly enjoyed it so far and look forward to where this goes.

Chapter 1.7.3
Chapter 1.7.3

"I wish you good luck and I will see you in a month." With that said Daikoku waved us goodbye and left us with our new sensei for the month.

Seeing our focus shift to her, she cleared her throat and pushed up her glasses.

"Good morning students, as Daikoku-sensei already told you, you may call me Suzume-sensei."

I stared at her. I had told myself that I would make an effort to be on good terms with all my teachers.

I wanted to garner enough goodwill with amicable and respectful behavior to hopefully get to the point where the teachers would help me beyond the normal curriculum.
Making everybody's life easier was just a nice bonus I didn't want to miss either.

As she went on and on about the topics, that she would cover with us in the following month and what exactly she expected of us I was inclined to believe that getting a read on Suzume seemed easy enough.

She seemed like a no-nonsense individual, that wouldn't appreciate behavior that detracted from whatever current topic.
There was a certain air of pride in her position that demanded respect from those she deemed under her jurisdiction.
I had a feeling, that unlike with Daikoku, an easy-going coexistence after an introduction phase wasn't going to fly with her either.
Staying calm, respectful and nod at the appropriate times probably was my best bet with her.

At long last Suzume looked like she was about to wrap up her speech.

"When you arrive at your respective orphanage after today's enrollment I want you to pack your belongings and prepare to bring them here tomorrow.
After class, I will show you to your allocated apartments."

She nudged up her glasses once more.

"Saying your farewells would be prudent as well."

With that she sent us on our way.

I nodded to the three other kids as we left the academy and going by the sun I estimated the time to be around noon.
I hurried to get to the orphanage to still make it for lunch.

I marveled at my current situation. Four children were just admitted to a child-soldier program and were now expected to live on their own from the age of six.

I reminded myself, that a teen was tasked, or might be tasked, to kill his whole extended family.

Shaking my head from that particular derail I joined the others in the mess hall and appreciated the last meal I wouldn't have to prepare for myself according to Suzume.

Hifumi came by my seat when I was about to finish, gave me a light squeeze on the shoulder and told me quietly, that we would talk after supper again.

A quick shower and a well-deserved nap later I set out to pack my few things.

I was done just quickly as I thought I would. Four sets of clothes, two pairs of shoes and one pair of slippers were packed in less than half an hour.
I put my toiletries like my toothbrush and comb next to my bag so I wouldn't forget them after I used them tomorrow morning and nodded in satisfaction.

There was nothing of sentimental value I could forget.

Glancing at the clock, five thirty, half an hour until supper. I grabbed the book Hifumi gave me and settled back on my bed.
I've seen a section regarding Yin and Yang Chakra in the index, which I wanted to leaf through for a bit.

Supper came and went like usual. Hifumi and I took our usual seats and I poured a cup of tea for each of us.

"I'm very proud of you, your new Sensei was highly impressed when he told me the news."

I smiled and bobbed my head.

"I know or I hope you will keep visiting, but it feels right to say it now. I'm proud, but also incredibly sad to see you go."
Her smile became bittersweet for a second, but then it came back in full force.

"There's not a single doubt in me that you will go far and will someday stand next to those greats that came before you.
My only wish from now on is just to see you stay safe and the way you are."

She ruffled my head fondly, maybe even for the last time.

I kept quiet, I didn't know what to say. I wish I could have expressed myself more freely at this moment.

"Bah!" She took a sip of her tea. "Enough of that sappy nonsense." She grinned at me.

"There is still something I want to show you."

I perked up, I recognized her lecture tone.

"I've seen you do the tree-walking exercise quite proficiently. There's one basic exercise further. It's called water-walking..."
She made to elaborate, but halted and smirked at me.

"I bet you will figure it out on your own."

'You have no idea, at least now I have a legit cover for knowing the skill in the future.'

"After you mastered this skill the same way you did the tree-walking you can attempt an exercise I'm going to show you now."

She pulled out a handkerchief and unwrapped three long blades of grass and put them on the table.

She touched one end of one culm with the tip of her index finger and lifted her hand.

The singular blade of grass was sticking to her finger precisely with its end, but it wasn't bending due to gravity, it was ramrod straight over its entire length.

In the end she had all three blades of grass on three different fingers simultaneously.

"One aspect of medical ninjutsu is to heal without breaking skin, to reach internal parts of the patient without surgery.
For this exercise, you have to channel a tiny, but a constant flow of chakra along to the very tip.
The longer the blade of grass the further you will have to extend your chakra away from your fingertip." She paused, taking a breath.

"When you manage to do this on all ten fingers at the same time we will see about changing you chakra to medical chakra."

Just wondering seeing as this story is called timber and his base specialty is water will he get that water release jutsu.

Edit I ment to say wood release jutsu

No, there won't be any special things for the protagonist. Timber is just a loose reference to the way he died and that he woke up in Konoha, which is surrounded by woods.

So your going to try for all elemental transformations and go the chakra savant route huh?

All transformations are a bit far-fetched, he might look into minor utilitarian jutsu of the various elements, but nothing to op.
He's currently looking forward to learn his first jutsu, so he can break it down and understand what actually makes it do certain things. Yin and Yang will play a large part in that regard.
He's currently under the assumption, that by understanding the make-up of various easier jutsu he might be able to reverse-engineer more complex ones he remembers from the manga.

Dude you have 6 years of chakra training when your already at high genin level chakra control. In fact your going to be picking up chunin level chakra control from getting water walking down shortly. By the end of the year you will have jonin level chakra control from that medical grass exercise thing. This is me being beyond conservative with my estimates as well on the time frames involved here. So what this then comes down too is you will have 5 years to pick up 6 different chakra transformations. Medical, lightning, fire, water, earth, wind. If you can figure out yin or yang then that is actually 8. Yin and yang release being 9. So with the way that you have been training you should easily get most of those down by the time your through with the academy. Early graduation has been discontinued after all with the war being over. So your going to be working through the whole academy curriculum. Plenty of free time to get chakra control to tsunade level from hard work.

With your chakra being trained as much as you already do your already at genin level reserves. That is the minimum level for the amount of tree walking you do without strain. More likely your chunin level. Your chakra levels will just keep on improving from this point on with how much your training them though. Minimum jonin level reserves when you graduate.

Chapter 1.8.1
Chapter 1.8.1

I was sitting in my living room slash bedroom slash dining room slash kitchen and stared out of the window. It was barely evening.

I explored my new home hours ago and while I was quite happy with everything, even its size because less space meant less cleaning for me, there was a distinct lack of amenities to fight boredom.

I knew I could just continue with Hifumi's book or do some chakra training, but I had a feeling that this wasn't going to be healthy in the long run.
Training all day every day probably wasn't without its drawbacks and I didn't want to risk growing weary of the novelty that was still chakra for me.

I needed a hobby, a distraction, something I could do to casually waste time whenever I felt like it.

The first full school day had continued with more basic information regarding our new life as orphans attending the shinobi academy.

Money makes the world go round, even if said world belonged to a six-year-old living in a tiny apartment. This was the gist of today's lesson.

The day had started with Suzume outlining the day that was going to follow and explaining the theoretical aspects of everything before we eventually did all that in practice.

"As you might already know by entering the academy the village grants children in your position a stipend to cover your expenditures until you finished or left your tuition."

'Does she know she's talking to little children?'

I chanced a glance at the other kids but couldn't guess their understanding behind their blanks stares and nods. Maybe they were just really good at hiding their boredom.

Suzumi paused meanwhile and pursed her lips.

"I expect you all to appreciate the effort Konoha is putting in your education and repay it with doing your absolute best!"

"Hai!" We automatically chorused, we all recognized this kind of back and forth from our time in the orphanage.

"The stipend automatically covers the apartments, which the village allocated to each of you.
Further necessary expenses in your everyday life such as food, hygiene and clothes will have to be paid by yourselves with the money given to you at the administration building."

She went on and explained the process, which was going to follow next involving a student pass that we were going to make at the already mentioned administration.

Apparently every student was going to get such a pass, but ours would have a small mark identifying us as part of the orphan program.
I still didn't know if there was a special term for all this.

Said pass in our case would be our most important item since we would have to show it every time we wanted to collect "our" money to pay for even the most basic necessities as Suzume stressed.

That established we followed Suzume like ducklings out of the academy and made our way to the village administration we just talked about.
Let me tell you, up close the building was actually quite huge and the faces of the Hokage just behind it were properly impressive, too.

Unlike Hifumi Suzume didn't bother to give us any directions or landmarks on the way. If you failed to find the Hokage monument as a shinobi, even as a student, of Konoha you should probably quit right away.

Her words, not mine.

Speaking of shinobi, the closer we got to the building the more traffic we saw. I wouldn't consider it busy, but there was a constant stream of teams and individuals coming and going.
Some seemingly vanishing in the middle of the street, probably the shunshin I was dying to learn, others lazily making their way down the streets and more than a handful taking to the rooftops.

Soon.

The photo for the student pass and the pass itself were done in quick succession and Suzume walked us through the process of withdrawing money while a bored-looking genin watched on from behind his counter.

Suzume was visibly annoyed by the display of the genin, probably fearing a bad influence on her students.

She handed each of us a money pouch filled with coins and notes. I had no idea how much and how far this was going to get me.
I would need to do a count when I was finally in my own four walls and start to keep track of everything.

A stiff nod to the genin, who gave a lazy wave in return and Suzume ushered us back outside.

We made our way back in near silence, Suzume leading the way, my three classmates walked together talking quietly with each other as I was trailing at the back.

I frowned, the dynamics between myself and the kids were already eerily similar to my time in the orphanage. There was no hostility, but I wondered if I was giving off some negative vibes that held the other kids back.

Yes, I had absolutely no intention to interact with them beyond the bare minimum, but I didn't want to build an unfavorable reputation among my peers.

Whatever, food for thought for later.

While I had no intention to get close to children, I did want to build a rapport with my teachers and that's why I made my way past the kids and fell into step with Suzume.

"Excuse me, Suzume-sensei?"

"Yes?"

"If I had money to spare, let's say if I had a job, would the process of depositing the money differ from withdrawing?"

She frowned.

"Why would you need a job?"

"Well, my old care-taker helped me a lot in the orphanage and she's fond of dango so I was hoping to give something back."

"I see, in that case, no, the process is the same."

"Thanky you." She nodded in return.

One step at the time.

In no time we were back at the academy and Suzume explained to us a few things about our apartments, which we would need to know until further in-depth stuff was covered in the future.

She basically told us, that the cabinets were filled with instant food, which could be prepared with hot water and would last us until we covered cooking. The same applied to hygiene equipment like soap.

That said we grabbed our bags and were on our way to the first apartment.

Luck was on my side as the first one was mine.

Just ten minutes from the academy we stood in front of a bleak but clean looking building with three stories, which bent around the nearest street corner in an L shape.

We went up the flight of stairs and on the top floor turned left. Following the hallway until the very end, we came to a stop at the last door on the left, the side facing the street we came from.

Suzume fished out a key, opened the door and made us step in. When we were all inside she closed the door behind us and to my surprise handed me the key.

I took a look around, unsure of what to think yet.

To my left the wall stretched straight and led to a small kitchenette, to my right the room opened and had a bed in the corner, at the foot of the bed was a small cabinet and then a small dining table with two chairs.
I liked the big window which was smack in the middle of the right wall above the cabinet. At the far end of the room were two doors.

"This is the pantry" She opened one door, "and this is the bathroom." and then the next.

After pointing out the things that she covered in the academy like the food in the pantry Suzume and the kids left me to my own devices...and boredom.

Edit: Maybe one more chapter with a focus on some training and we can start the academy proper.

More likely your chunin level. Your chakra levels will just keep on improving from this point on with how much your training them though. Minimum jonin level reserves when you graduate.

Do be aware that I am making these estimates based off of the limited amount of time you had to train in the orphanage. A few hours in the afternoon for chakra and physical training where ever you could get it.

You should reasonably be able to keep up this pace without any creativity on your part and have a few hobbies you dabble in to alleviate boredom. With some creativity such as using tree walking to hold yourself to the underside of your desk with your upper thighs while leaf spinning on your non writing hand as you take notes in class. That would train your physical abilities, chakra control, chakra quantity, concentration, subconscious multitasking, and allow you to still pay a lot of attention to your lessons. Subconscious chakra control like that though would be highly prized... though you would likely want to be in a back corner of a class room so you don't distract other students. Still the teacher would definitely approve of your efforts so long as your not falling behind due to them. Shouldn't be hard to be top of your class academically though with how you have an adults tempered mentality on top of how it was tempered by your previous training.

So... yeah just wanted to let you know that with how you have reasonably explained how you have gotten to high genin level in chakra related matters while only 6 years old places you as a genius in their society. Not only that but your reader audience has come to expect this level of competence from you now. You have set the bar this high, don't unexplainably fail to meet it. And please don't arbitrarily raise the competence of the setting either. That would create a dissonance how do you get the average raised to that level when you and only you put in the work for it. Do locals just an arbitrary competitence boost at a certain age for no reason? Yeah you have set your SI up as a competent genius. Please don't decide to change that later without very good reasons. That is a quick way to utterly ruin a story.

I have no idea on how you come to these stats because sasuke as a very talented and intelligent boy that put a lot of time and effort into his training didnt anywhere near your estimates, so no way should the SI be able to do what you are claiming

Didn't put anywhere near the amount of effort, specialized help, or information into his chakra training that this SI putting. Sasuke specced into physical skills instead and it showed with his high genin level skill levels.

That still doesnt follow because i havent seen any truly special training that a clankid couldnt have recieved as well if he was interrested into that topic so sasuke likely got a similar introduction into the fields he was interrested in

And if a talented guy like sasuke only got to high genin lvl skills in the area he focused on then why should an average guy like the si manage to reach jounin lvl in a different field...

I mean, Sasuke clearly didn't have any chakra training beyond what was offered in the academy (for control). He obviously had some elemental training (Hosenka and Fireball), but took about as long as Naruto to learn tree walking, while the MC will be learning water walking and the grass-blade exercise on his own time. That said, elemental training next WOULD be a good idea; however it's noted that proper elemental training can take years on average. So the MC can probably reliably get some manipulation with his main element down before graduating alongside his medical jutsu. Remember that medical jutsu takes a TON of studying to be useful, so he'll have to dump time into that.

Edit: also, it's unclear that Sasuke ever had much in the way of clan training. He learned fire manipulation, but aside from that he was mostly lonely/on his own pre-massacre and DEFINITELY alone post-massacre.

Chapter 1.8.2
Chapter 1.8.2

The new exercise Hifumi gave me left me glad and frustrated.

Glad that I had a real challenge, which was going to keep me entertained for who knew how long.
Frustrated because I made barely, an almost nonexistent, progress so far.

I was at the point where I was ripping leaves into smaller and smaller pieces while trying to get each new piece to stick. I wasn't even thinking about extending my chakra yet.
My priority was to get used to minimizing the point where I used the chakra to keep the things sticking.

When I managed to reach the size of a single blade of grass, only then would I start worrying about the next step.

Thankfully there was something that kept my spirits high and that was my progress with the water walking.

Incidentally I did most of my practice at first after learning something, which in my combined more than thirty years by now I never had to do and never thought I would have to do in the future.

I had to learn how to clean my clothes using a washboard.

A small metal bucket, a bar of soap and the wooden racket.

Every third day after school I would fill the bucket with water, put it in my small shower stall, take a stool and start to squeeze and rub my dirty clothes hunched over the small washboard.
Everything done I would hang out the laundry on a string across my window.

On my second time, when the novelty was already replaced by slight annoyance and boredom, I noticed how both of my tiny feet would fit perfectly in the bucket filled with water.
Unwilling to just dump the water away and having to look for a nice and quiet place to practice I just finished the laundry, sat back down on the stool and made my first tentative tests.

A week later I was standing on the water in my bucket while doing some stretches to simulate shifts in weight.
I knew it wasn't the real deal, but I was still uncomfortable with openly doing a late genin or early chunin exercise while still not officially going to the academy.

A large part of me thought I was unreasonable, but I couldn't shake the feeling that I would get too much attention and people would start asking questions about this seemingly no-name prodigy.

I also thought that it might get Hifumi unwanted attention and scrutiny, which I wanted to prevent at all cost.

That I hadn't found a suitable spot, that wasn't restricted to shinobis played also a small part.
So I kept going to the orphanage to visit Hifumi for some tea and after that to go further to my old training spot where I regularly upped my old regime

I couldn't wait for the academy to start the week and finally be able to compare myself to clan kids, that surely had prior training of their own.
___

Days went past in a blink of an eye and suddenly I was standing in a crowd of children in front of the academy listening to the Third Hokage deliver his speech.

Duty, pride, family and village.
The way the Third was going through his speech it seemed like it was the equivalent of a reheated meal, acceptable but nothing to write home about.
This sentiment was only enforced by how some shinobi parents seemed to use the opportunity to catch up with each other.

Still, it was relaxed feel-good atmosphere permeating the academy yard, which followed us to the same classroom I visited during the last month.
Only this time Daikoku stood in front of the blackboard again with a big smile.

"Good morning to all of you and welcome to your first day at the academy." Anticipation settled around the room. This was it.

"My name is Daikoku-sensei and I will teach you for the next several years to become the best shinobi you can be. To get things started I want you all to introduce yourself to the rest of the class, we will begin in the first row to my left."
He pointed out a boy, who cringed a bit at being singled out in the very first minutes.

He hesitantly stood up, said his name and bowed to the class.

"Very good, Haru-kun." And so it went on without a hitch past me and the Akimichi-boy next to me.

Apparently the start of the curriculum would consist of the history and the geography of the village itself and the shinobi-rules. A guy called Iwana Akame was going to handle physical education.

I reinforced my desire that I was going to make a point of learning and internalizing all the theoretical aspects to the max simply because I didn't have the plot-armor or power to neglect anything in my education and live happily ever after.

It was a week later, I had yet to feel any challenge in either the theoretical or the physical classes that I decided to approach Daikoku at the end of the day.

"Excuse me, sensei."

"Yes, Daiki-kun?" He smiled at me, as you would at a bright and respectful little student of yours.

"I was wondering if there's a place where academy students can practice after school."

"Of course, the practice yard in the back is always open for students and some of the upper years like to use the small woods right behind it." He suddenly turned serious.

"Be careful though, they tend to practice their taijutsu and use their weapons there."

I was debating about asking for a suitable body of water to practice my water-walking but decided against it for the time being.

I nodded my thanks and made my way out of the backdoor towards the training yard.

Taking a glance around I eyed the trees before me and used a skill I've been neglecting for quite a while.

I closed my eyes, my left hand became a one-handed ram-seal and I concentrated.

Behind me I sensed Daikoku still in what had to be the classroom, a similar-sized chakra pool made its round a floor above.
Dismissing both I focused on the small forest before me.

I perked up when I sensed a duo some 50 meters into the woods.

Cautiously walking forward I was mindful of Daikoku's words and my surroundings.

As I got closer I got a better read on the two chakra signatures and guessed that they were only slightly bigger than mine. I started to wonder how old these two individuals were going to be.

Hearing voices I stopped behind a tree and peeked around. Two boys, if I had to guess not too far from graduation, panting on the floor from whatever training they did.

Keeping it casual I stepped around the tree and into their view.

"Yo." Lazy wave.

Both stared at me until the boy with strange markings at his eyes stood up.

"What are you doing out here newbie?" The other boy with light brown hair also stood up and crossed his arms. The reception wasn't exactly hostile, but I definitely felt unwelcome.

"Just wandering around, looking for a place to train or people to train with."

I shrugged. One smirked, the other snorted.

"And what exactly did you hope to train? Better go to the playground again."
I didn't like the condescending tone, but kept my demeanor light. They couldn't know any better.

"I was hoping to find someone, who could teach me the Clone Technique."

"Well, turn around, your sensei is going to teach it to you someday."

"I'm ahead of my class and want something to work on."
I paused and switched gears. Already somewhat tired of this I took control of the conversation and went for my selling point.

"How's your chakra control?" They stared at me, as the guy on the left opened his mouth to reply I cut him off.

With a burst of speed I jumped forwards, made a tight twist and somersault.
I stuck my landing on the tree directly behind them a few feet above their heads.

I made a point of looking extra nonchalant while sticking horizontally to the tree with my hands in my pockets.

"Doesn't matter, mine is better." They gaped at me.

"Here's the deal," I paused, put my hands out of my pockets for some pointing and gesticulation.

"You will show me the Clone Technique and you will explain it to me. You will answer my questions to the best of your abilities. In return," I pointed at myself for emphasis.
"I will teach you a genin-level chakra control exercise, which will help you immensely with your graduation." I paused again, becoming serious.

"This would obviously stay between the three of us."

They looked at each other, slightly taken aback by this pushy little boy, and nodded.

"Fantastic," I clapped once. "My name is Daiki."

"Shibire"

"Minoji"

'and I will probably forget your names by the end of next week.'

No.

Unless the MC really likes a character, for example Hifumi, he won't give a crap about them. He will interact with them for a certain amount of time and will have no problems cutting any ties when everything is said and done.
Take Ichirō Yamanaka, the Go-playing sensor. Out of sight, out of mind.
That's cold, yet also painfully familiar for me.

Wish I could say I'm working on it, but then I'd be a liar.

That still doesnt follow because i havent seen any truly special training that a clankid couldnt have recieved as well if he was interrested into that topic so sasuke likely got a similar introduction into the fields he was interrested in

And? What's your point? I don't understand what your even trying to argue here? That the Si has more help? That carries through from being taught tree walking. Clan kids get that saved for when they are genin and their jonin sensei teach them that. There is the medical exercises he is promised and the grass straightening technique.

How can you say with a straight face he isn't being taught things others haven't gotten?

And if a talented guy like sasuke only got to high genin lvl skills in the area he focused on then why should an average guy like the si manage to reach jounin lvl in a different field...
My response to this is rock lee. Lee worked harder then sasuke for a shorter period of time and vastly outpaced sasuke in his area of preferred specialization. Had less talent but spent more effort training it.

Would have responded if I had seen this. Wasn't alerted though. Alert system must be on the deitz.
