[X] Set up an appointment with Achilles. "I have just been subjected to what was perhaps the most insultingly self-aggrandizing recruitment attempt in my life." If Nikulin wants to be useful, then find a way to make him so.

Infighting when fighting a fucking alien invasion. Honestly disgusting. Politics getting in the way of solutions.

Politics 'spits' has a tendency to spring up at the stupidest and worse times possible.

Perfect example I can think of was in RL where a committee was set up to save a sinking and on fire ship.

The ship sank.

'Chuckle' nope one-time thing attempted by a company and they suffered big time for that piece of stupidity. That's why a captain on board ships now is still the master of their ships because they are best placed to make the decisions that save lives.
A sunken ship was enough to get sanity back?

I said it had my support, and I'm keeping my word

Fuck. Political. Officers.
Pretty sure Nikulin is civilian, given "Mister". Guess the UAE goes for civilian control of the military, which is good in that it cuts down on the number of military coups, but bad in that it results in this shite happening.

He is from first glance for all intents and purposes a superior officer that gained his position through politics. Hence, political officer :p

Not disagreeing on civilian control of the military being a good thing, but yeah.

[X] Remain non-aligned. Frankly, this politicking sickens you. It's conduct utterly unworthy of an officer, and you won't have any part in it. (No change to Requisitions, near-impossible to advance ranks with no sponsors to speak for you)

Not really.

You see, without a military that by demand of the politicians is expected and required to be non-partisan in internal power struggles ends up a political tool. The manner in which this is true depends on the internal stability of the polity. The less effective civilian oversight is the more likely it is that the military can act independently of the administration's internal politics and impose its own vision. This is not necessarily through a coup, but when you are the only ones with armoured vehicles and aircraft any war will favour the military.

However, effective civilian oversight is not a good thing either if the military isn't forced to stay outside internal politics. Because that means that said oversight can force the military to act on internal political events. It's impossible to completely force the military to the side, because that's their own nation, but constraining the military greatly to keep them from being a political factor is needed so they don't get used to harass and attack political opponents.

Fixed that for ya. Sounded like winning the war might not be necessary before.

Agreed, but while sometimes necessary, immoral options should be considered VERY carefully before choosing them. When in doubt, be moral. Also I do not see this option to be the pragmatic one, considering costs involved.
Keep in mind people, we are but one (damn good) officer among many. We dont need to be the general for the generals job to get done. Same with supplies, what we dont get others do. It doesnt just disapear.

Whoops. I am usually prone to fudging up one word that somehow makes my entire post wonky... thanks.

I can't believe I forgot to vote.

My take is that Nikulin will stab us in the back at the first opportunity. He is only calling us because he sees just such an opportunity. This doesn't mean we can't use him, we just need to be smart about it. Achilles has treated Guo well, and returns loyalty for loyalty. He also understands the game. If we coordinate with Achilles, we might be able to use this to both our advantages.

Fuck. Political. Officers.
Quoted for truth. This guy is putting his own career ahead of the war. In my book that is high treason. Nikulin needs to be removed.
