The Ultimate WAD - A Thread to celebrate Doom in General.

In what ways would you say that Project Brutality improves on Brutal Doom? I will admit that I've never played either of them, but I'm interested in your take.

I actually just got done playing it so here ya go:

1. More weapons, including ones that were cut from Brutal Doom.

2. More Fatalities.

3. You can duel wield a lot of the weapons, another feature that was dropped from Brutal Doom.

4. More Blood, Gore, and other such.

5. It still keeps the Original Brutal Doom look, just a bit better.

Edit: 6. It has a higher chance of working with some mods. Because of the drama that preceded Brutal Doom's release, certain mods literally have it built into the game where if you try to play Brutal Doom with another mod (Example: DemonSteele), you get swarmed by a bunch of dancing golden revenants and killed instantly upon playing.

This can happen with Project Brutality as well, but since it is a standalone mod, it has a higher chance of not happening.

WTF?? What kind of drama could provoke such butthurt response? Just to know.

You forgot that Project Brutality also has adjustable difficulty including random spawns or adapting those to your shown skill level while playing.

AFAIK, it derives mostly from the developer of Brutal Doom being a remarkably shitty person, with one incident I've heard of involving him telling a guy to kill himself and providing directions for how to do so.

Yeah, the maker of Brutal Doom is a bag of dicks, all of them infected with AIDS.

Also I liked the extra weapons that Project Brutality added. Namely the newly done pistol, the revolver and the assault shotgun.

The part about adjusting random spawns is new to me, but @Grey Rook and @FalaKAISER are right.

In addition to BD's developer being a rather shitty person, the fans of his mod really pissed off anyone who made a new mod. From what I understand, it went like this:

Mod Author: Alright, I just posted up my new mod. Let's give it day and see what people think.

*One Day Later*

Mod Author: Alright, let's see the comm—

Every. Single. Last. Comment: WILL THIS WORK WITH BRUTAL DOOM???!!!!

And it essentially went like that for a while. To the point where certain people wouldn't play any mod unless it could work with Brutal Doom. Didn't help that anyone who talked about it instantly got hit by SgtMark's fans (people who literally play absolutely nothing but Brutal Doom all day long, and think it is the definitive way to play Doom) who would say that they're just jealous of Brutal Doom's success.

SgtMark agreed with his fans, so it got worse.

Oh right, I remember that incident now. Sarge thought the guy was trolling (and it could be that) and so acted accordingly. Still, I think he was readmitted in the GZ forums some time later. Still, no matter how bad a person is, one shouldn't carry over theird grudges towards their works, which might be a completely different thing. Then again modders are a special type of prima donnas and the Doom community is one of the most volatile online groups out there, so this kind of over-the-top pettiness makes sense.

In any case, Sarge has separated the different parts that make Brutal Doom (such as the new behavior for monsters or the blood effects), so this thing may not happen as often if you do that.

EDIT: Oh, a post while I was writing. Well, I didn't know that, but fans being shitty people is unfortunately unavoidable lately.

Happened with me when I tried to play Project Brutality with DemonSteele.

Nevermind what I said above: Apparently Demonsteele is not compatible with ANY element of Brutal Doom, not even the Ketchup mini-mod. What an asshat the author.
Anyway, there's another TC mod which is shaping up quite nicely:
ZDoom • View topic - Memoirs of Magic

A classic Final Fantasy-esque mod, to be specific.

*checks videos*

Oh well, then you'll have to decide between one or the other, as it seems the DS creator thought this was a good idea:

Petty guy is petty.

It's almost like He got tired of people demanding Compatibility Patches all the fucking time.

So, going the other way around and making most, if not all of his mods specifically incompatible with anything from Sarge is the solution then?

I wasn't really aware of the whole Brutal Doom Mod Drama until I started modding Doom (which was about two months ago), but I can understand why he did it.

What I don't understand is making it so his mod doesn't just punish those crazy Brutal Doom Fanboys, but literally everyone just for trying to play any mod that ups the gore a little bit.

Like what about all those people who just think Brutal Doom is a cool mod, but don't think every mod needs to be compatible with it? Are they just shit out of luck? Or are they immediately at fault for just liking Brutal Doom? And why do it to every mod? Even the Ketchup one? That's going a bit too far for me.

You expected rational behaviour from a modder, but it was me, DRAMA!

Now seriously: Don't expect they care about such "collateral damage" when a modder is having their drama moments, the point is being petty and not if innocents are caught in the crossfire. Perhaps he's lazy and didn't want to write a script to prevent such minor cases?

I know I might get hit with Necromancy for this, but since this is the place for anything DOOM related:

Two Words: FUCK. YES.

Meh, you should save this thread for proper WADs, not a sequel of not-Painkiller: Press "E" for an Awesome Execution. Over, over, over and over again, such as the latest Golden Sun wad update or something.

At the very least the MC doesn't have a knock-off Halo-suit. Will it have an average story with a shitty ending too? Will the epilogue be sold separatedly this time? :V
