The SV Mafia Megathread

Seems like it, throw me up for another slot at the end if you wouldn't mind, I've got an idea for two different games, just gotta decide which I'm going to build first.

With Congregation of Despair now finished, could I please be added on to the Waitlist for Games to Run for my Storm Trooper Mafia?

I've not played this game since grade school, but I have been reading the current one and it looks like fun. Is it okay for clueless noobs to sign up for these games or do you actually need to be good at it?

I'd also like to join. I've got a decent amount of experience with Town of Salem, but I've never played it on a forum like this. Should be entertaining!

Town of Salem is a lot of guesswork and quick decisions, forum Mafia has a much higher deception factor, and a higher analysis factor to boot. Speaking of, someone tag me when a particularly flavorful game is about to start?

I played Mafia (including traditional, Town of Salem and other variants) on my last major forum, would be willing to participate in the game here.

Well we tend to post every new game here so you should be notified of the next game coming up when that occurs, so it should be easy to join up.

Will do (please mention me when the next starts). That said, I'm not sure the current organisational structure is ideal for the Mafia community here, but I guess I'll broach it in the other thread.

For those of us who aren't following that thread closely, can you give a brief summary?

Note: I'm doing this on my phone so I am paraphrasing and breaking down Cinera's suggestions/questions into their core components.

Q1. A mafia subforum, and if that isn't possible then a mafia tag. As well as having guides written out.

A1. We are too small to have a subforum so that is immediately impossible. However, we often do tag our threads with the mafia tag and add the word mafia to the title, so they are still very easy to spot and search for in terms of visibility.

And in terms of guides there are multiple guides and notable posts typed out and thread marked in the SV megathread here to help people.

Q2. More turbo mafia games to drag players in.

A2. This could be interesting to do but runs into a few issues. One, we would inevitably get players who only want to do turbos, I've seen this pop up constantly on other sites.

And we don't have the resources to constantly run turbos to please these people, unless we get a large playerbase boost and likely some way to automate Turbo games. I doubt either will occur, especially the automitization, but if they both do I would be willing to run some turbos for people.

Q3. Coaches for game hosts.

A3. We already do this with people acting as seconds for most GMs in terms of checking balance.

Q4. Giving out some sort of awards or special flairs for good players.

A4. GMs often give out rewards at the end of the games but those are minor things. What Cinera asks for is things that involve actual coding, which to be frank Xon would never waste his time on putting in. I'd like these, it's just not realistic.

Q5. Shilling this in other threads and forums.

A5. No, because frankly doing so is rude unless there is a proper reason for you to bring it up. It would more likely lose us potential players rather than gain any. We can do it in the discord but that's a frankly different environment.

Something I am unclear on, do the scum know who else is scum, and do they have any means of private communication, or are they guessing as much as everybody else?

I believe that if they are on the same team, they know who their teammates are and have a private method of communication, but they don't know who rival scum are anymore than town does.

In most games the "mafia" faction knows who each other are and can communicate freely both day and night phases in a QuickTopic given by the game master. This isn't always the case though sometimes scum don't know who is in their chat, because perhaps the QT is at risk or falsely at risk of other roles gaining access or traitors exist, in these cases, the identities are not known. Other times scum have some sort of limit on when they can communicate, if such happens basically they don't have the ability to talk during the day phase, this is a pretty rare choice though.
