That's more the American dub version, the original had him admit at one point that magic does exist; he just doesn't really give a shit one way or another. Also, each Blue-Eyes is a different spirit monster; one is the past life girlfriend, one is egyptian past life Kaiba, and one is present Kaiba. It's how he made Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon to battle Zorc.Kaiba doesn't believe in magic because he's a control freak and can't stand the thought of not being in control of anything, which is always the case when magic gets involved with him. And to be fair, in both his past life and his current one, every time he does lose control very bad shit happens to result for both himself and those he cares about so whether he remembers it all or not, he does have precedent supporting his "need to be in control" issues.
I feel bad for the Dragon he ripped up now. Also, each Blue-Eyes is a different spirit monster; one is the past life girlfriend, one is egyptian past life Kaiba, and one is present Kaiba. It's how he made Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon to battle Zorc.
It would make things interesting if we somehow managed to get our hands on that.
That was the bond between Yugi's Grandfather and the Guy who gave it to him.
Like every game they both get involved in is like 'TO THE DEATH'. DEADLY TETRIS GAMES.
The first one did have cards though. Playing cards!"And now! Scorpion in a shoe!"
Seriously, half the fights in the first couple manga volumes didn't even involve duel monsters in any way other than peripherally.

Yeah!
What's even better was that he dug the whole 'Penalty Game' (aka Shadow Game) thing so much he decided to replicate it with technology. And succeeded.Like every game they both get involved in is like 'TO THE DEATH'. DEADLY TETRIS GAMES. DEADLY HOLOGRAPHIC BOXES OF DEATH. Man, Kaiba was clearly unhinged and mostly evil. And then Yami beat him and one coma induced 'MIND BREAK' later we have a likable-ish arrogant guy who is nowhere near as bad as he used to be. Sometimes he's even a good brother!
It's almost like he's crazy or something. Like, say, as if he had gotten his mind crushed. What's even better was that he dug the whole 'Penalty Game' (aka Shadow Game) thing so much he decided to replicate it with technology. And succeeded.
At least they gave B. Skull Archfiend Dragon an ability that more than makes up for that.Well, YuGiOh was originally meant to just be about games in general, it was only after that cross with the card game special episode which actually introduced Black Meteor Dragon that the producers were like, "Hey this is working! Make these two into one major series!"
Though if there is one thing I'm miffed about (though bear in mind I saw Season 1 years before I even heard of Black Meteor Dragon) it's that even though Summoned Skull has 500 more attack points than Meteor Dragon, Black Meteor Dragon has more attack points than B. Skull Dragon. (3500 to 3200 I believe)
I guess. At least they gave B. Skull Archfiend Dragon an ability that more than makes up for that.
All of that was pre-Mind Crush btw. If anything the mind crushing fixed him. It's almost like he's crazy or something. Like, say, as if he had gotten his mind crushed.
Not defending him, but Gozuburo never wanted to be a father. At least not to Kaiba and Mokuba both. Kaiba had to beat him at chess for him to take Mokuba too, which while the dude was rich and could easily afford it, probably did breed some resentment. Then again Gozuburo was a shit-tier father; when Kaiba admitted that one of his life goals was Kaibaland (amusement park for orphans) he basically bitch slapped the kid and took away any and all semblances of fun away.

Yep. Little Kaiba was kid. And Childish Cruelty is fairly nasty. Not defending him, but Gozuburo never wanted to be a father. At least not to Kaiba and Mokuba both. And Kaiba could be a smug S.O.B. even as a child. While the big 5 were mostly filler, Jinzo guy's recollection of how Kaiba beat one of Gozuboro's test's was downright disturbing. He likely found alot of ways to rub in the fact that he, Kaiba, a child, had played Gozuburo, a grown man, like a fiddle.
Then he pulled the same sort of trick with his adopted father, who then killed himself. You mean the one where he had a month to make 20 mil from 1 mil and then went and bought 51% stock of a company and threatened to close it if they didn't give him 20 mil which made them cave and give it to him. so he ended up completing it in a single day?
Little Kaiba was also borderline abused to become the perfect tool to continue KaibaCorp's dominance and eventual path to world domination (yes, this was actually a thing). And if Kaiba failed or was lacking in any regard, Gozaburo would dump him back to the orphanage; or the street, whichever was probably easier.Yep. Little Kaiba was kid. Eh, this is kind of misleading though. I mean, sure. Yami was hella vengeful. But he was also fair. Since a lot of the games involved Yugi preventing the person from doing bad things. And if they had played fair, lost, and held up their end of the bargain which was generally "stop doing bad things and walk away" from my memory. Yami probably would have let them go, no worse for wear.Yami was just really vengeful, in the whole 'lose a game, go insane for a while(?) in an ironically fitting way'.
I think it's more because of Pegasus then anything else....I'm curious, does Ruby have the Toon Deck as a reference to her (slightly altered) Semblance? Since with Toon World/Kingdom in effect they can get past any walls the opponent might have up?
Also, I just realized that Toon Red-Eyes leading her to Atticus and Alexis is actually completely in keeping with his effect. He loves bringing friends together/ to a party.
Well, there was that one time when some upperclassmen stole Yugi's class's spot for a school fair booth, so Yugi blew them up with nitroglycerin...Eh, this is kind of misleading though. I mean, sure. But then, since they WERE scumbags. Well, tried to cheat/go back on the deal. Penalty.
Well of course! If the patient isn't willing to put the work in why should Yami waste his precious time that could instead be used to play children's card games?TLDR Kaiba's backstory is full of trauma and suffering and all around awfulness on everyone's parts over time.
TLDR Yami is, for a 6000 year old amnesiac Pharaoh, a fairly good psychiatrist although he pushes all the work onto his patient.
Who are you to criticize Ancient Egypt's standard method of removing disgusting criminals such as thieves, from the law-abiding Japaneses population?Well, there was that one time when some upperclassmen stole Yugi's class's spot for a school fair booth, so Yugi blew them up with nitroglycerin...
