Gotham City... They call it a great city, an amazing city... A Beautiful city...

And yet, you'll never find a greater cesspool of scum and villainy anywhere on earth.

Gangs run rampant through the streets, thugs extort and blackmail to their hearts content.

Politicians and policemen line their pockets with the pickings of the drug trade in return for it going on 'unnoticed'.

Monsters walk the streets, freed from their crimes by a system that doesn't care about what's right, about Justice.

Sad thing is though... Dad says that it wasn't always this way.

He says that years ago this was a beautiful city. It was a city that he could be proud to have said he was growing up in.

Then...

Then it all changed.

It wasn't a fast change, however. No... But it was an inevitable change none the less.

What was that change, you might ask?

Time.

Or rather, Time's effect on a man. A great man.

But I think I'm getting ahead of myself. This story doesn't really start here, and it most definitely doesn't start now.

No. This story, if I'm going to tell it right, actually begins over half a century ago.

The year was 1947. The Second World War had only just ended, when something new began. Something extraordinary.

Something... Super you might even say.

Thirty Thousand feet in the sky, a plane's engines malfunctioned. Without the power the engines provided, the plane began to crash. It was to be one of the greatest tragedies in modern history, for had nothing been done... the plane would have crashed down into the downtown district of Metropolis.

So many people would have died. If it weren't for him.

A man dressed in red and blue, marked with an 'S' upon his chest flew into the air. He caught the plane, and he safely landed it, allowing all those lives to continue on.

They called him Superman. The Man of Tomorrow, The Man of Steel.

They called him a god, and he said he was but a man.

And man or not, what he was, was the first.

Metropolis's hero was only the first of many to begin to appear.

In Star City, a man dressed in red and silver moved like lightning, taking down criminals and villains.

They called him the fastest man alive. The Flash.

Arriving on the shores of American was a giant of a woman, hair of black and fair of skin. Stronger than a hundred men, fast enough to deflect bullets. They called her the Wonder Woman.

And in Gotham... In Gotham, a young man clad in Red, Yellow, and Green appeared.

They say he used magic. They called him the Green Lantern.

And while for a time there was Chaos, these men and woman. These Heroes continued to rise.

And in time, these champions of the human race came together.

In the city of Metropolis they built a great Hall of Justice.

A place for the heroes of the world to come together.

It was in 1962 that they finally finished the building and came together.

They called themselves the Justice Society of America. And for a while things were good. Crime fell across the nation, while there were villains and criminals (both normal and Super)... things reached a balance.

But you can already see what happened, can't you?

1962... That was 53 years ago.

While the Man of Tomorrow and Wonder Woman both seem to have not aged a single day...

The Flash disappeared.

The Hourman died over an overdose of the drug that gave him his powers.

Sandman Retired.

The Atom aged slower than the others, but over the years he has appeared less and less.

And the Green Lantern? He died. Killed in the line of duty, struck by a train as he saved a young woman from a madman.

The first generation of heroes are gone. No more champions to stand against the monsters of the world.

But that was the start of it.

With Gotham's champion gone, the villains and the crooks and the monsters of the city all began to return. They slunk back from wherever the green hero put them away.

And with him gone, they not only returned, but grew in strength.

They grew stronger and stronger. They dug in deep and hard. They knew that it wasn't over. That the Green Lantern wasn't going to be the last of the heroes.

And of course, they were right.

Far as anyone can tell, it began the third of February, 2014. Just a year ago.

There was a cold case - Drug Runners that had been moving through the city, spreading their filth and their horrors to the people of the city for close on five years.

Then that morning, they were found. Tied up with their drugs, sitting outside of the Police Department.

Some of us thought it a bit strange. Some more than others.

Then it happened again. A cold case suddenly closed, the perps brought somewhere that they could not mysteriously disappear before being taken in.

Not that they ever reached the courts.

Dad was pissed about that.

And for a while it looked like it might actually happen. That the streets might one day be cleaned. That the thugs and the freaks might have been put down.

But everything changed six months ago. Everything spun out of control.

A doctor who used his technology to try and save his wives life, turned into a madman who froze everything before him.

A madman obsessed with riddles and tricks, trying to prove himself the smartest man in the room by whatever means necessary.

A hero came about.

So the Super Villains came too.

But these Villains were different, perhaps they were like the new hero as well.

They weren't simply Villains. They were Criminals.

They robbed banks, sure. But that's Super Villain stuff.

They extorted and blackmailed, they gunned down cops... and perhaps the most important...

They ran their own empires.

Drug runners and thieves.

And Batman couldn't turn his eyes from them.

They were too dangerous.

And so the slime and the filth of the city got a reprieve. They spent the time digging in even deeper.

But this isn't Batman's Story.

No... This is my story. The story of my rise. Of my choices.

And to tell it right...

Well, I'm going to have to go back again. Not so far back as to the beginning of the age of Champions...

But back to the beginning none the less.

First off -

[ ] Choose one of the Above Districts, except those in the Narrows, the Downtown, and the Sandy Hooks.

That's going to be where you live, and where you main base is.

Next Difficulty -
[ ] Easy (90 Points)
[ ] Casual (80 Points)
[ ] Normal (70 Points)
[ ] Difficult (65 Points)
[ ] Hard (60 Points)
[ ] Nightmare (55 points)

[X] South Channel island

[X] Normal (70 Points)

should be a good easy to secure area to stick to while we get oriented and on our feet.

[x] Colgate Heights
[x] Hard (60 Points)

Because I'm not quite up for insane mode, but a challenge is always good. Also I like the name of the place so might as well (I know nothing of DC lore so whatever's changed or the same will be a mystery to me.)

Brief Primer
@Ashynarr

Well, to give a brief and hopefully somewhat easier to understand Primer on this Earth -

Things start up in 1947, when Superman first appears, and saves a downed plane from crashing into Metropolis City.

Over the next five-ish years, various Golden Age Incarnations of Heroes begin to Appear.
Jay Garrik as the Flash
Alan Scott as the Green Latern
Wonder Woman
Doctor Mid-nite
Ect...ect...

the following years as generally referred to as the 'Golden Age' with American Superheroes taking the world by Storm. In Particular, Superman and Wonder Woman both amaze the world due to the fact that they are both generally invincible and do not age.

After Lex Luthor ends up kidnapping Lois and taking her to Gotham, Alan Scott and Superman meet up. They join together and defeat Lex (which is 1961) Both heroes then spend time reaching out to other heroes and over the next year set down the frame work for the Justice Society.

The Formation of the Justice Society and the Legion of Doom are seen as the Beginning of the Silver Age. However, Many Super Villains are still going strong even as their Heroic Opponents age.

1974 Lex Luthor dies of Cancer, which left Lexcorp unmanned for a short while before the first of the Luthor Clones are awakened and he takes control of his company again. Unfortunately, the cloning process is not perfect, and many of the clones have to deal with genetic issues before expiring within three years of their awakening.

1975 The Flash disappears after a battle in an explosion of rainbow colored light

These two events are seen as the end of the Silver Era. Particularly since while Super Heroes are still appearing... they only appear rarely and there really aren't any for big cities, other than DC (where Wonder Woman is staying) and Metropolis.

1986 Several Rainbow colored flashes are seen in the depths of the Amazon, but that's it.

1999 - Rumors of a killer Alien pops up for a while, but nothing really seems to come of it.

2010 - The Final Luthor Clone comes out of Stasis, only this clone seems to have none of the issues of the other clones, along with strange powers that are similar to Superman's.

2014 - The first Appearance of the Batman.

There is more stuff, but this is just a brief overview of some of the important happenings.

[x] South Channel Island

An island for us to claim!

[x] Casual

I'm looking for lots of cathartic face-punching and gang takedowns, so any of the first three levels are fine.
