The Next Great Adventure (A Post-Hogwarts HP Quest)

i would be perfectly fine with you not showing us the rolls. but that may be because i am familiar enough with probabilities and the system itself to recognize where we are deficient or solid.

[X] Two ambushes and you want my wand? - Harry has already been ambushed twice in his visit to Australia. He is willing to go with the Aurors but is unwilling to give up his wand. He has no guarantees these are even Aurors. Also a presence roll.

[X] Where. Is. Hermione. - Intimidate the Aurors into submission. Harry needs to know where his friends is. This will prompt a presence roll versus a difficult check.

I like to think Harry grew a pair in these past years, yet still cares more about his friends than common sense.

Also I really like seeing the rolls with each update.

I have a bit more time this week so I am aiming to produce an update by Wednesday. Please get all your votes in I will close it in about 24 hours.

At higher levels of skill could Harry use his soul forge skill thing and forge himself, turn his body into a magical creation.

If these really ARE Aurors, this has the best chance of partial success.
If they aren't Aurors...we're armed.

For Where is Hermione...whether they're Aurors or not, threatening them is unlikely to have good results, even if we succeed.

Well if they're not aurors they'll just give up their ploy. If they are they should wait till we're more reasonable.

I'm closing the vote in the next few hours. Where is Hermione remains in the lead by one vote!

EDIT: didn't even realize the vote was about to close, or that the tally was so close. #sorrynotsorry

I'd much prefer to be incredulous (at the aurors' greenness) than to be immediately hostile.

edit:
If they are Aurors, they may not know of Hermione yet. It'd be a chance for her and/or her parents to get on that plane and get away by pretending to be be ordinary folks.

I was about to close the vote but either someone changed or my tally missed somebody but we actually have a tie at the moment. If someone wants to intervene and ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL and cast their tie breaker vote I will leave this open until 9PM EST so a little over an hour. If not I am tossing a coin.

[X] Two ambushes and you want my wand?

"I've been ambushed twice since I've arrived in Australia and you want me to hand over my wand," Harry glared at the Auror Captain and swept his gaze across the other members of the squad. "Not a chance."

The men and women in front of him tensed, but Harry remained unconcerned. Instead he wove magic together and projected his aura until it was a nearly tangible blanket of power that pressed down upon those before him. Invisible to the naked eye, it had the benefit of adding gravitas to his presence.

"I have no intention of fighting all of you. Find my friend and assure me of her safety and I will come quietly. You will forgive me however for not entirely trusting my security to others considering my experience so far," the Auror captain hesitated but eventually nodded his head in agreement. The recruits gathered around him released a collective sigh of relief as Harry withdrew his aura. Soon a number of them were sent out into the terminal to seek Hermione after Harry conjured a small illusion of her appearance so they knew who they were looking for.

Harry kept his arms at his sides, wand held loosely in his hand as he tapped his foot rhythmically. He would pace, but he figured there was no reason to give the Aurors cause to act on their skittishness. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched intently as a portion of the squad examined the bodies.

He almost missed it, but one of the wizards dipped his hand into the interior of one of the dead men's robes. Exactly where the illusion was placed when he discovered the ivory box and the pouch. His eyes briefly met with the fake Auror captain, who seemed to realize he had caught onto them and begun raising his wand. Harry however was faster and far angrier than he had been in months, having just sent half a dozen people after his best friend. He quickly blasted the man away and channeled all of his rage and strength into the [Ouroboros Ring], a dark light emanating from the artifact. Jabbing the dark light with his wand, he drew it away, a ball of abyssal flames pooling at the tip.

When he first used this spell against Voldemort, he had carefully controlled it with his will in order to minimize collateral damage. He didn't want the bystanders to get hurt. But in an empty airport terminal with only enemies before him and others chasing after Hermione, he wasn't anywhere near as considerate. With a wave he released the flames.

With an earth shattering roar, a phoenix composed of towering flames shot forth from Harry's wand. At nearly ten meters tall and over twice that in wingspan, it was even larger than the one he had manifested in the Great Hall. It smashed through a column, the cement and steel melting away, as it rampaged through the terminal.

The first Auror disappeared into naught but ash as a wing swept through him as the phoenix passed. The Auror Captain came next as the phoenix bit down with its beak, unable to even utter a scream as he was incinerated. The rest of the Aurors died similarly, consumed within moments by the voracious flames that left almost nothing behind.

Pausing for just a moment to take stock of the destroyed terminal, Harry spun on his heel and began to sprint down the terminal hall, hoping to retrace the path Hermione took. He sprinted and sprinted, even as he ran out of breath and had to pause a few times. He definitely needed to work on his fitness, he promised himself.

After running for what he felt like was eternity, Harry finally caught up to Hermione only to find her and her parents holing up behind a counter. Hermione had turned it into a makeshift fortress with transfiguration and animated a number of chairs as guardians. Here and there she would pop up and throw a flurry of spell work at the approaching men and women which kept them on the defensive but as her guardians dwindled they drew ever nearer.

Upon closer inspection he could see that both Hermione and her father were wounded. William Granger was bleeding profusely from a wound along his ribs while Hermione's left arm hung limply at her side. Luckily it wasn't her wand arm otherwise she might already be dead. Wrapping [The Invisibility Cloak] around himself, Harry snuck behind his enemies before reaching into his pouch and withdrawing two perfectly round crystal sphere.

Runic Detonators as he called them, they were a new creation he had been working on in his spare time. They weren't true artifacts and required a fraction of the skill to create, more akin to baubles than anything. Useful, dangerous, baubles though. Clear crystal with an explosive solution in the core, they were covered with runic work imbued and etched with the powerful black flames created by the [Ouroboros Ring].

Channeling some of his magic into the runic detonators, they began to glow softly. When the runes filled with power, Harry rolled them across the floor towards the wizards attacking Hermione. With the cacophony of sound from cast spells, explosions and the animated chairs they didn't notice the baubles until they detonated, giving no time for any of the men to dodge.

Two were lucky and decidedly out of the way, having positioned themselves the furthest from Hermione. Three of the men however were dead center of the blast radius and were vaporized in the ensuing explosion. The last man lost most of his right leg and began to go into shock. Harry sent a lightning fast cutting curse that deprived the man of his life.

"The rest of your friends are already dead. It's just the two of you against me now," Harry shed the cloak and twirled his wand. The two wizards took a look at him, turned tail and ran. He paused, just to make sure they weren't going to turn around and run back over before swiftly making his way over to Hermione.

"Stop!" Hermione shouted when he came within five meters of her. "How do I know it's you Harry? Tell me something only you would know?"

"On our way to your parents house, you were scared if bringing back their memories was the right decision and thought about turning back," Hermione kept her tense posture for a moment longer before dropping her wand. Harry leapt over the counter and took a look at the wound on William Granger's side.

He brought his wand to the wound and attempted to seal the wound with an Episkey spell. The bleeding lightened and most of the flesh knit back together, though a trickle of blood still leaked out and strenuous movement would likely tear the wound back open. Not an entirely successful spell, but still it was enough to get Mr. Granger out of danger. Fishing into his pouch, Harry pulled out a blood replenishing potion and fed it to the man.

"Hermione, let's take a look at the shoulder," turning to his best friend only to witness as she wrenched her shoulder back into its socket with a muffled scream.

"I'm fine," she began between gasping breaths. "We should go, before more people come."

"Unfortunately, it is a bit too late for that," Harry wasn't sure if the discernment abilities from his eyes were what tipped him off or not, but he felt the ripple of magic that alerted him to a wave of witches and wizards apparating in. Rising from his position he readied his wand just in case as nearly two dozen men and women appeared before him. They took note of him and six of them came to stand facing him as others fanned out through the terminal. Their faces were impassive, but they remained alert without taking an aggressive stance and provoking him. Certainly a great deal more professional than the false Aurors he had encountered earlier.

After a few minutes passed, more and more magicals started to appear in the terminal both via portkey and apparition. All were Magical Law Enforcement staff near as Harry could tell, ranging from Hit Wizards to Obliviators. The Aurors in front of him remained still and silent as statues. They only reacted when approximately thirty minutes later another group apparated in.

Harry immediately picked out Percy Weasley, likely representing the Ministry of Magic as a liaison for the Department of International Magical Cooperation. Kingsley would definitely send someone he knew by face considering the absolute shit show his journey to Australia had been. There were two British Aurors accompanying him as well, though they weren't people he recognized. Ernie Macmillan formed the last of the British contingent which made Harry frowned as he was pretty sure an appearance by his lawyer did not bode well.

As they approached the six Aurors stepped to the side and flanked the Australian contingent. One of the men stepped forward. Looking to be in his middle ages with slightly greying hair and a well cropped bear, the wizard had a degree of presence that Harry had found lacking in most of the Aurors he had encountered so far. A not overly severe countenance gave him the appearance of someone reliable, without being unduly harsh. Unable to gauge the man's age, Harry's senses told him he was facing a powerful wizard likely on par with the likes of Moody and Kingsley.

"Good afternoon Mr. Potter. My name is Ian Walker and I am the head of Magical Law Enforcement for the Confederation of the Antipodes, " Harry nodded in acknowledgment but said nothing else, after all the man knew exactly who he was. "I would have liked to meet you under other circumstances, but it seems my hands are forced."

Ian Walker subtly gestured with his hand towards one of the men behind him. Harry restrained the impulse to stare but memorized the man's face.

"To be frank this is a rather major incident and my obliviators will be working overtime to try and track down, trace and otherwise contain this mess. Evidence has pointed to you being the one under attack. At the same time you are also the primary suspect as effectively I have a trail of dead bodies that all point in your direction."

"Harry would never!" Hermione shouted as she jumped up, coming immediately to his defense.

"I do not say that as an accusation just giving Mr. Potter some perspective. In light of the danger Mr. Potter has been placed under upon our shores, the Council is prepared to allow him to simply leave as they do not wish for this to grow into an even bigger fiasco," Walker replied as he made a placating gesture at Hermione.

"And what would that require from me?" Harry inquired his face carefully neutral. There was something rotten about this whole ordeal and he didn't like it one bit. He was fairly certain Ian Walker didn't support it, but did not have the power to block whatever was going on.

"You and Ms. Granger would need to sign an agreement. It would absolve the Council of any responsibility in the incidents and bind your ability to speak about it. We will of course send along any results of our investigation. In exchange you walk out of here unmolested. You will not be detained for questioning, interviewed or imprisoned. Effectively both sides give each other a free pass," Harry could see the cogs in Hermione's head turning as she processed the offer and began to awaken her righteous fury. Quickly grasping her shoulder he shook his head to indicate for her to stand down. She glared at him, but relented when he sent her a pleading look. "Of course we have invited you lawyer here to go over the details with you so you feel one hundred percent comfortable before signing any such agreement."

The Magical Law Enforcement head gestured at Ernie who rushed over as he stepped away to give them some privacy.

"Hey Harry, I see you have gotten caught up in another mess," Ernie quipped. Harry smiled wryly.

"You know how it is Ernie. Nobody can leave me alone."

"Tell me about it! It has been hell lately. Everyone figured you survived whatever happened after the portkey, but when you did not surface for days, rumors started circulating that you were assassinated and people were out for blood thinking you were dead," Harry grimaced. Popular opinion swayed greatly on him throughout his life but the hero worship had certainly grown to ridiculous degree over the last few months. "When this contract showed up on my desk I figured you were alive because there is no other reason it should exist. Percy roused me at four in the morning to rush me here when they were notified you resurfaced and were busy blowing up an… whatever this is."

"It's an airport Ernie. It's how Muggles travel around the world, you know what nevermind," Harry waved his hands in dismissal when he saw Ernie's eyes begin to glaze over. "The contract Ernie?"

"Oh right the contract, of course," Ernie put his hand into his satchel and pulled out a sheaf of papers. "It is stupendously wordy, but the gist of it is that you cannot talk to any public parties about what occurred here including the Ministry and the press. If word somehow gets out from you to any public party including through an intermediary or a friend you are in violation of the agreement as well. If you violate this agreement you owe them 100,000 galleons."

Ernie paused as he scanned through his notes once again. "You also absolve the Council of any responsibility for these incidents which prevents you from being able to sue them in any capacity. In exchange you walk out of here a free man and cannot be held responsible for the actions you took as it is considered to be self-defense. Even if you threw out a killing curse and they can prove it, they cannot do anything to you about it. It also prevents you from having any liability for damages of which there are potentially quite a few from the destroyed buildings, violations of the statute of secrecy and so on."

"This sounds like a huge cover up Ernie. Both sides are effectively washing their hands of this," Harry commented as he thought it over for a moment.

"It is definitely a huge cover up, but I am going to recommend you sign the agreement. You too Hermione," Harry looked at his friend turned lawyer in confusion and Hermione looked equally lost. "This is a huge cock up on the part of the Confederation and it will affect them adversely if it becomes known to the greater public. Harry is a war hero with some serious power and even the Australian public generally thinks he is great. For him to be almost killed twice in their territory seriously challenges the legitimacy of their government. Percy can go over this stuff in greater detail with you both later, but generally that is the bigger picture."

Ernie paused then leaned in conspiratorially. Hermione rolled her eyes and cast a muffliato charm. "The Council has already shown their hand. They will do everything they can to silence Harry whether that means tying up the case in red tape or discrediting him. They just view the agreement as the most expedient way of pulling this off. If you refuse to sign I will not be surprised if you get tied up in bureaucracy and legal battles for years. Either way, you will not get anything out of this investigation."

Sorry I'm a bit late! The week got a bit crazy.

We will never be silenced! We were not quiet about Señor Moldywarts, and we will not stay quiet about this! We have leverage, and good public will.

[X] Refuse to sign the contract

Meh, don't see any reason to antagonize them. They're not evil, nor are they complete pricks.
