The Long Epoch: Pre-Targaryen Westeros Quest.

Alrighty. I'm seeing a very clear lead in this, which I'm not surprised about. I was expecting either Dayne or a Nymeros-Martell to be the popular two options.

Unless theres a major change in the votes, I'm gonna close voting at 3 pm EST and begin working on the next post.

[X] Exceptional Lowborn

Maybe even higher if you play your cards right. The times of the Long Epoch are chaotic. And we know what chaos can be. Opportunities are abound, if you just look for them.

Edit: This goes for everyone. Lord, Smallfolk, Bastard. It's a time of constant strife, upheaval, intrigues, plots and war. Those who can navigate the waters, and survive, will find plenty of chances to advance.

This one was a extremely close affair. But we've got one edging forward by just a couple votes.

Really interesting.

Note, because of the choice made for the House. That being, minor house sworn to another, instead of a Major House. You are of the Daynes of High Hermitage, not the Daynes of Starfall. In affect, this will effect your lifestyle and stature in society, as you're from a junior cadet branch that're Landed Knights living in a comparatively modest Holdfast. As opposed to Lords who're sworn to Sunspear directly, have marriage ties to their liege, and had the prestige to have been Kings before Nymeria's Conquest.

Char-Gen 3
Trait Gained: Stony Dornish. You grew up among the Red Mountains, where raids and skirmishes are not uncommon, and the people are hardy. First line of defense to protect Dorne from foreign invasion. +1 Martial.

You are the son of Ser Michael Dayne, the Knight of High Hermitage. Granted the land by his brother, your uncle, Lord Gulian Dayne of Starfall, to oversee the Torrentine upstream from the family's main castle. Though your father is married, you were not born to his wife, Sylvenna Ladybright. Rather, you were fathered upon his paramour, a lowborn serving girl from the Marches named Rowan. Because of this, your surname was Sand, and you never bore or bear the sigil of the Daynes, not unaltered at least. Your earliest years were spent learning how to be a capable swordhand, squiring under one of your father's retainers, Ser Bors, he brought you along for plenty of duties and gave you valuable lessons in how to maintain your armor. Exercise your horse. Keep your sword keen, and sharp. He also exercised you with your half-brothers, forcing you to train with wooden swords twice the weight of the steel ones. Having you carry your father's saddles from one end of the stable to the other, then from one end of the courtyard to the other. You grew quite strong, not even for your size either, as you kept getting taller and taller as the years passed.

Yet, the best training that Bors and your father gave you wasn't the physical kind. It was the values they instilled in you. Bors gave you the confidence to stand in the face of your fear during those times you sparred with the other squires or your half-siblings. Dad taught you to keep a level head, and impartial, when arbitrating or managing people. The smallfolk had it hard here, with the Red Mountains being an endless warzone of Raid and Counter-Raid with the Marcher Lords, they did not need their overlords to be unnecessarily tyrannical.

It's these values that you finally began going out into the world by yourself with, with a little more freedom given your age, your majority just a few years away, what did you do with your free time?

This will be the Third and Final part of Character Generation. You shall choose 2 skills from below. These are Leveled Traits that increase in their benefits the more you use them, but start off rather minor in their boosts. These represent anything from hobbies, particular talents you learned or training in certain tools or skill sets. This section shall also give you personal belongings associated with the Skills chosen.

[ ] Game Dealer: You went, sometimes with your Half-Brothers, to a nearby inn to play Dice, Cards and Tiles on occasion when nothing was required of you. Though, it would be more accurate to call you skilled at games of wit, as you've picked up on how to find tells, or give false ones, during games. You've kept a deck of cards close at hand since, for whenever you wish to pass the time, or get to know someone. +1 Intrigue

[ ] Hunter: You joined your half-siblings and father whenever they went out to hunt, and figured out how to track prey and fell it. During one of these hunts, you managed to land the killing shot on a Shadowcat, and had its fur made into a cloak to commemorate the rare occasion. +1 Prowess against animals, applies to Steeds.

[ ] Falconer: You went hawking with your family at times, or with visitors who were less eager to get their hands bloodied with spear or bow hunting. However, it is viewed as the more dignified sport, and being able to hawk with some skill is viewed with respect, especially since you cared enough to get a hawk personally, and have been in charge of its maintenance. +1 Stewardship

[ ] Wise Man: You not just learned to read, you learned to love it. You devoured what few books you could get your hands on like a drunkard drank their wine. And know a small bit more than most in some subjects, particularly mathematics and history. +1 Learning, start with a book or two.

[ ] Equestrian: From the moment you learned to ride a horse, you haven't stopped. You, and the steed you're atop of, might as well be one with how well you ride them… Seeing potential, even, your father gifted you a Sand Steed. +1 Prowess when Mounted.

[ ] Strategist: You played lots of war games with Bors and others, and read a fair few tomes on strategy, tactics and how to lead. Often pouring over a detailed map of Dorne and its neighbors with your mentor. You've got a solid foundation on the theory behind wartime leading, but you do not have experience. +1 Martial, you gain a detailed map of Dorne, The Reach and the Stormlands.

Yet, you are more than just hobbies and traits. You wish to go somewhere in your life, do something more than be what you are now. What do you want to accomplish with what time you have? Ambitions can either be Short Term or Long Term goals for this character, which represent the objective they wish to achieve to advance themselves. This can range from something minor, like winning a tourney, or finding employment in another court. To something major, like gaining a Lordship or marrying into Royalty. Each ambition that is achieved will open a vote for an attribute to be improved based on the attributes most associated with the Ambition(For example: Martial and Prowess for winning a Tourney. Or Diplomacy and Intrigue for securing a marriage. Or Stewardship and Diplomacy for earning a lordship. Etc. etc.) Some ambitions can be achieved more than once at a time(IE. An ambition to find a place in another's court might be accomplished via winning a tournament.). But ambitions can only be selected once at a time.

Pick Your Starting Ambition:

[ ] Get Knighted: You've squired under Bors for much of your youth, but haven't been Knighted yet. Strive to prove yourself worthy of the title, or gain it some other way, and finally get knighted.

[ ] Find Employment in a Lord's Retinue or Court: Whilst your childhood was fun here at High Hermitage, and you shall never forget where you came from, you're a man now. You must walk your own way, and a good way to do so is enter the service of another.

[ ] Travel the Kingdoms: You've quite the wanderlust, and wish to see the world before settling down somewhere. Surely you can live journeying from place to place, doing odd jobs or viewing the courts of other realms. Sellswords are always in high demand.

[ ] Write In: Write in a short term attainable goal.

You came to know your family, both close by and extended. You had one Half-Sibling, a brother named Doran. And plenty more cousins, the children of your uncle Gulian, and his wife Alyse née Toland, who ruled and lived at Starfall. They are Joffrey, Myriah and Edric. You live in probably the most unstable region of Dorne, though that isn't saying much, because the Red Mountains and their passes are subject to constant raids and skirmishes from the Marcher Lords, and more than once have foreign armies attempted to cross them bent on conquest and glory.

The current Prince of Dorne is Trystane Martell, son of the previous Princess of Dorne, he is the third in a line of rulers whose reigns are marked with upheaval, instability and rebellion. Though a war hasn't happened since he assumed the throne, he still presses the ruthless laws his predecessors put in place upon the populace. Outlawing the speaking of Rhoynish, whilst attempting to keep his vassals in line. Some of whom haven't forgotten the times when they were Kings.

This is the Dorne you find yourself in at your age of majority, Six and Ten. With ever more happening abroad that you do not yet know of but no doubt news will travel in soon enough.

Finally, who are you? What name do you and others know yourself by?

[ ] Write In: What is your name? (Within Reason)
[ ] Write In: Physical description or link a picture. Keep in mind, Stony Dornish are known to have fairer, Andal and First Men features, and the Daynes in particular are known to have purple or near-purple eyes.

this, but I want to pair it with a goal of Tourneys. First of winning a Tourney, and then when that is achieved, of winning bigger and bigger tourneys. The hope would be to have that goal be interrupted by War before we achieve much bigger tourneys so we can have a wistfulness to our character while we fight in the battlefields.

Winning a tourney is definitely an ambition you can go with for the Write Up.

[x] Plan: The Noble Wastrel
- [x] Game Dealer
- [x] Equestrian
- [x] Get Knighted
- [x] Name: Aron
- [x] Appearance attached

Aron Sand's hair is a good match for his stained surname: the color of dried grass or a sandstone boulder, which he wears long and takes a good deal of care of — for the tavern girls, of course. And they do love his grey-lavender, sunset-cloud eyes. He's handsome all around, really, yet somewhat gracile, like his mother: a somewhat narrow face with a soft brow offset by a strong jaw and chin, full lips, and a high forehead. His mouth is formed in such a way that he seems to wear a little smirk, like he's remembering something ever so slightly funny.
