The Last Knight (Digimon)

[X]No, use your break to find some clue as to how to bring Yggdrasial down! There has to be some kind of core, like a Digimon. You just need to find it!

Eyes on the prize. By distribution I'd guess Yggdrasil made exactly enough monsters to handle all the invaders, and with the Chaosdramon being replaced by a freakin' Milleniummon I'd guess that fighting the guards will only result in a stalemate. We're trying to be real knights now, so we need to deal with the real problem, and its not a horde of mindless monsters.

I'm not convinced fighting the copies will accomplish anything; after all, Chaosdramon was defeated but only replaced by another.

Plus, there's no guarantee that we even can defeat all of our enemies.

A shame Examon isn't here, he's already beaten the four great dragons by himself once and he was weaker then. Would have been a great help.

Really? That would make Examon by far the strongest of the Royal Knights, so I'm a little skeptical.
I would not at all be surprised if Examon has the most raw power of any Royal Knight. By raw power, I mean not counting bullshit conceptual abilities like Alphamon's time rewinding or UlforceVeedramon's hax regeneration. I'm only taking about raw offensive brute force.

In Slayerdramon's bio, it is said that only Dragon Digimon that complete the training called "Trial of the Four Great Dragons" can become a Slayerdramon, and if I remember right the trial takes the form of fighting each of the Four Great Dragons, one after the other.

Impressive. Of course, now we have to take on all four of them at once, which is a completely different matter...

Well, he completed their "trail" but there is no record of what that trail was. It might have been simply "Survive for two minutes."

In raw power, possibly but with the other Knights bullshit powers the Forces, Invulnerability on Demand, Crimson Fuck You, and OS ha ha! Examon isn't as absurd as you might think. His biggest threat is his range. Quite honestly, if you are fighting Examon and you can aim back something has gone horribly wrong for him.

Though I noted that Yggy still used Thirteen. Does that mean that Magnamon managed to survive despite Ulforce's worries?

[X]Dynastmon
-[X] Make sure our foes trip each other up.

Kimeramon is nasty but we have our best chances if every attribute is accounted for. We're Virus, Dynastmon is Data, and Gankoomon is Vaccine. Hmm...

I was very close to voting for rescuing Dynasmon, but priorities. Fighting these Digimon is meaningless. Only destroying Yggdrasil is what matters, there's nothing that says that he couldn't just replace anything we deal with.

We have no White Mage. If one of us goes down that's it, and it cuts our fire power by about a third.

Then we get caught in a fight with Lucemon as well. We've bought ourselves only a matter of seconds. After rescuing Dynasmon, we won't have any time left to head after Yggdrasil. And because we're outnumbered 6 to 3, there's no good way to slip away temporarily. We have an opening now, we can't afford to waste it.

So overcoming together what we couldn't alone doesn't apply here? Dynastmon is our best bet for nailing Goldramon. and five against two is much better odds than four against one. Besides, if Dynastmon falls, the Lucemon can move on to us or Gankoomon anyway. So five on two and one on one, five on one and one one one, or four on one and two on one are our options here. I'd prefer the one that gives us the best chance of survival.

Eh, I'll give you that... Somewhat. If defeating these monsters actually mattered, I would even agree. But the abrupt entry of Milleniummon shows that even if we defeat an opponent, Yggdrasil can merely summon another. We need to defeat him, not his replica Digimon.

"In my world, the Dynasmon of my time saw my greatness, and served me with all of his heart."

Dynasmon groaned, rising slowly to hands and knees. The shaking of his arms slowly subsiding as he glared up at the angel.

"Then that Dynasmon was a fool."

"Perhaps. But he survived where you will not. Who is the fool there? Now enough, talk. A god such as myself has little need for one such as you. Begone. Ultimate Sacri-"

"Quo Vadis!"

Lucemon snarled in shock and surprise as the area around him erupted with crimson light, the bark he was standing on exploded in a shower of wood, and he was thrown into the air, shielding himself with his arms against the powerful searing force.

You swooped upon him, wings pulled back, blades to the fore. You knew that you had only seconds; you had to make it count. Blutgang surged with holy light as you wielded it against the traitor of everything it stood for, as though the blade itself knew the crimes laid at Lucemon's hand. You slashed in from the side, intent on taking him arm or leg, but Lucemon's eyes snapped open amidst the crimson light.

"You think such a pathetic attempt will stop a god? Have at you, knight!"

He launched forwards with a surge of speed, coming right at you! You wielded Gungnir skilfully, throwing the point of the spear into his path, and forcing him to break the charge, but he was too fast, and evaded your lancing strike. Backing into the air with power gathering between clenched hands.

"I see the dragons were too stupid to deal with you. Imperfect copies. I'm afraid that I am not so limited, Gallantmon. Grand Cross!"

In the split second before the searing light reached your body, you managed to think that it was no wonder Dynasmon was having so much trouble with this one. Then, the blast hit, and you knew only pain. The brilliant light was worse than any blow you had yet endured. Somehow combining both heat and cold, searing your nerves and freezing your skin. It locked you in your own body, as you felt yourself slowly tumbling, the branch below you now just a shower of splinters drumming against your armour.

You were falling. Dynasmon's limp form plummeting by your side. Above you, Lucemon hovered. A smile upon his face. New light gathering in his hands for the next attack. The world was moving slowly, the beat of your heart like the battering of a drum in your ears.

Control was returning to your body now, as light sparked and danced between Lucemon's fingers. His power, it was unreal. You had no doubt that this copy had all the strength of the original. The dragons had been the same, but they hadn't used it. They'd been more like the monsters outside, mindless in their fury. Unable to properly use their power to its full effect. You had thought that Lucemon was the same, but you had been wrong, and now you were paying for it.

"Dynasmon.." You looked to your friend, his form was limp. His eyes closed. His armour was broken, molten and his limbs bruised, his form wounded. The sight of such a powerful knight reduced so much, it brought a strange sensation surging to your fore.

"Grand Cross!"

This time, you saw it coming. The cruciform of light, so bright that it was blinding. A holy power turned to evil. It came fast, with the intent of destruction, but you mustered the power to oppose it. Calling on your strength as you raised Gungnir.

"Royal Saber!"

The blast of light pierced the cross, and struck the wielder behind. Lucemon's face was a mask of shock as his own attack detonated, an explosion rippling outwards to shake all the nearby branches of the world tree.

You took your chance, flipping forwards and charging with all of your speed even as Dynasmon's body fell to the darkness below. You erupted from the flickering light before Lucemon, swinging your fist for his face. A lance, or a blade he would have been prepared for, but not a fist. You saw him hesitate for just a moment, and then felt your armoured knuckle meet flesh. His head snapped to the side, and force rippled from the point of impact.

Not to waste your chance, you drove into a series of blows to the face. Slamming your fist into him again and again, determined not to give him the chance to counter. Each time you hit him, you felt his body rock back. His flesh shift, and bruise. But you drew no blood, even when striking with all your strength. You remembered tales of his legendary power, how his battle with the Elemental Warriors had shaken the world.

"RRAAAAAARRGHH!"

You'd run out of time. Megidramon came from above, claws set to rend your body limb from limb. You danced away, but Lucemon's hand darted out, and snatched your wrist. His fingers closed around it, and you heard your armour creak with stress. Your eyes were wide, and you couldn't avoid Megidramon's strike.

Your armour splintered along the shoulder as his claw dug into your flesh, you screamed. Pain surged through your body.

"Does it hurt to see the truth of your own nature?" Lucemon taunted you. "No matter how you dress it up in fine words, or nice armour, this is still what you are, Gallantmon. A beast."

Goldramon rose up behind you, and still trapped by Lucemon, you could neither evade or fight back. You braced for another attack, but Lucemon raised his free hand.

"Enough, beasts. Back into your cages."

The dragons roared, obviously annoyed by his words, but they did not strike. You glared at Lucemon, his eyes burning with self-confidence. Even standing near him, it was unmistakable.

"Do you see now? Your little rebellion is doomed." Lucemon spoke. " All three of you together could not have defeated me alone. And this is after you cast your own comrade into the depths just to surprise me too. How does it feel to let them down, Gallantmon?"

"Dynasmon isn't dead." You growled. "He's too strong to die to a fall like that!"

"Even after all I did? Well, I suppose I shall have to find a corpse later then, won't I?"

"Why are you doing this? The others are beasts, but you...you can think, reason... why are you supporting the very being you once tried to destroy?"

Lucemon laughed, an eerily merry sound coming from such a monster.

"So you remember my legend? That's good! I had thought it would be lost to the ages. Concealed by the survivors of the battle. Of course, as a god I don't have to justify myself to the likes of you. But why not? It isn't like you're going to survive anyway."

He laughed again. Then, released his hold. You were free! You darted forwards, but Lucemon was ahead of you. Even as you rushed at him, his knee came up, and struck you in the chest. Instantly, the air was driven from your lungs, you felt a rib snap in two, and the world flashed red for a moment. Casually, Lucemon took hold of your other hand, and threw you over his back. You tumbled into another great branch of the tree, where you lay still.

The world was still flashing around you as Lucemon slowly turned to regard your form.

"I am doing it because I was asked, of course. From one God to another. Of course, Yggdrasial would need to find someone he could trust to carry out this task. And of course, I would be the one he picked. Since I am his only equal. Only I could truly understand what he wishes to accomplish here."

"A-and that is?" You managed to growl.

"Rebirth, of course."

"Of the Digital World?"

"That as well. Honestly, Yggdrasial's scheme made my own one from so long ago seem unambitious in comparison! Why just remake one world when you can remake them all? Create an untold number of paradises, where good and evil are perfectly in balance. When I heard about what he wanted me to do, how could I not help?"

He threw back his head and again, that thunderous laugh boomed forth. Echoing across the branches of the world tree.

"Yggdrasial has changed since my time. The old Yggdrasial would never have even been able to conceive of such genius! None of this would have happened, but this new one... Oh, I like him."

"He's gone insane." You snarled.

"If that's the way you want to see. Personally, I believe that he has finally come to his senses, and seen the duty that he has as a God. If he had been like this long ago, I promise you, I would not have had to battle the Elemental Warriors."

"Maybe that's so..." You said. "But the Legendary Warriors went down as heroes, who died to preserve all that's good in this world! You, Lucemon, are remembered as a monster, and as one of the Great Demon Lords!"

"So I survived?" Lucemon said, his tone of voice surprised. "I assumed I'd died. Overcome by the warriors. I should have known better. Of course my power was too much for them. And by your wording, they didn't survive? So I won then. That's even better. After this, I should seek out my other. My original. Let's see how much time has changed him, and perhaps we can see who is more powerful."

"You don't care that you're a copy?" You said, striking verbally at a possible point of weakness. "A rip-off? Not even the original? That you're just something Yggdrasial cooked up?"

"Now, now, Gallantmon. A copy of perfection is still perfection. I am Lucemon. The first and greatest of all archangels. That cannot be argued with. Whether there is one of me or two, that fails to matter in the least."

"You're as insane as Yggdrasial." You said. "You don't even care about the millions that are dying, and the billions more who will!"

"See, there you go with that insanity again. It confirms my earlier assumption. You merely do not understand the thought-process of a God. All those who die will be reborn in the perfect future that Yggdrasial and I will create. Even you."

"That'll be the day." You growled. "You're an egomaniac with a god-complex. You'll never be able to create anything that will last."

"Anger burns in your heart, and poisons your tongue, but my forgiveness is infinite, as is my nature. Now, it is time for you to-"

The world shook. The tree branches the great tree swinging in disorder as a sudden brilliant light snarled into existence, lighting all at once around the void.

"What happened?"

Confusion.

Barrier Breach.

Amidst the light, a portal formed. You caught a glimpse of the world outside, the crystal city as a figure stepped through into the void.

"What the hell? Dragons, attack!"

With a roar, the Four Great Dragons rose, and began to move towards the portal, and the figure. But he was too fast for them, moving at a blinding pace which set them far behind him. In one instant, he seemed to have jumped between the portal and the tree, almost halfway to your position.

Lucemon swivelled around, holy light blasting from his body.

"Grand Cross!"

The figure dodged it just as easily, and in the light of the explosion which lit up behind it, your heart soared. It was Veedramon. His wings splayed behind him, his bracer alight in the form of a blade. He jumped again, and Lucemon surged forth to meet him. The two locked in combat for a moment.

"Lucemon." He snarled. "I won't allow you to bring down any more knights. You've already done more than enough!"

"You speak as though you know me." Lucemon growled in response. "But you're just as weak as the others!" He forced his weight forward suddenly, and you saw Veedramon's arms begin to bend as Lucemon's full strength was applied against him.

"I don't know you." Veedramon growled. "But someone else does!"

With a sudden surge of force, he twisted, bringing Lucemon around with him so that his back was to the portal. For a moment, you wondered what he was planning, what he could possibly have in store when a roar erupted from the direction of the portal. A voice achingly familiar, which you had both yearned for and feared, but never expected to hear again. Not like this.

"You should know." Veedramon said. "Royal Knights don't fight alone."

And from the portal, that roar as the beam of light, powerful enough to rock the world. A lance in the darkness, spearing towards Lucemon's exposed back.

"Supreme Cannon!"

Lucemon screamed, the explosion engulfing him. The branch you were stuck in rocked as the shock-waves hit you, and Lucemon's limp form was hurtled into the darkness. Veedramon floating unharmed with his arms crossed. He looked down at you, and smiled. That smile...

"Gallantmon." He said, bending down to help you back to your feet. "I'm sorry I was late, old friend. But I decided it was time to get some help. Turns out convincing the others that something was up wasn't so hard when the monsters were hitting them in their very home."

"You brought Omnimon?"

"Not only him." Veedramon smirked. "Examon, Crusadermon and Jesmon are here too. So what do you say, Gallantmon? Ready to give it another shot? Ready to fight as a Royal Knight again?"

The silence was broken by the screeching roar of Megidramon as a great explosion tore at its body, you watched it slump back as it was eclipsed by the massive form of Examon. The others circled, but he didn't seem worried.

"I fought you before, Great Dragons. When you were at your peak. These shadows? They are nothing to me."

A shock-wave, and Goldramon was annihilated in a rippling explosion. Meanwhile, Magnadramon was being driven back by Jessmon, who was wielding his saber with superb skill.

"I am not done!" Lucemon howled, rising from the depthes with a roar of rage, his hands encased in holy light.

"Supreme Cannon!"

This time, he was ready, evading the stream of destruction that spat past him. With a growl, Omnimon's sword was raised, and he charged. Two digimon beyond the level of mega clashed in the void between the branches; the resulting bubble of force ripping the wood around them to shreds.

"He can't win alone." You finally found your strength. "Lucemon is too powerful. He defeated Imperialdramon. Even Omnimon will be overpowered if he fights alone."

"He isn't alone." Veedramon said. "I'm here. And someone else as well. Trust us, Gallantmon. This battle is only just begun!"

And then he kicked off, driving himself towards the pair of warriors. Lucemon saw him, and snapped off a shot in his direction, but Veedramon didn't try to dodge. You watched as his body began to glow with an inner light, the blue armour he usually wore sloughing off, and falling away. The sheer power radiating from him, like a sun being born. You shielded your eyes.

"UlForceVeedramon mode change!"

His armour shone with a pureness akin to pearl, his bracers were gone, and in his hands, a great saber not of light, but of steel. White it was, and down the centre of the blades, there were words in code. You recognised the blade with shock, how could you not? Emblazoned on the hilt, the Crests of Courage and Friendship.

"UlForceVeedramon, Paladin Mode!"

"Gallantmon!" You twisted in time to see Crusadermon landing on the branch next to you. "Dynasmon, where is he?"

You gestured below, and she followed without even a word. Diving into the depths after her comrade. That left you alone.

What on earth were you going to do now...?

Aww, fuck. Frontier Lucemon? Yggdrasil's gone full Funny Valentine on us.

Okay, so a bunch of Knights are already down (Duftmon, Magnamon), killing Milleniumon just creates a bigger mess (Moon and Zeed) and baiting him towards Yggdrasil is a bad idea unless defeating him causes a massive explosion. If we take too long, we'll see Yggdrasil the Accursed.

With our luck, he's already fused.

Well, that's a big fucking clue on how to find Yggy.
