The House of Twilight [Destiny Nation Builder Quest]

Us sucker punching the House of Winter and stealing their shit is not exactly what I imagined I'd find when I got on my computer today but I like it nonetheless, as for my vote:

[X] Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto all require exploration to determine Advantages and Disadvantages.

[X] Dusty White Jewel of the Third World

Eh, the Hive isn't here yet. Also, if the House of Exiles managed to survive on the Moon despite the Hive presence, so can we. It also means we are close enough to the Guardians and most hostile Houses to do some raiding or perform diplomacy if we wish to.

Again, a large amount of virgin worlds we are able to acquire without stepping on anyone's toes. That is something very attractive.

That's a remarkably positive way of looking at it.

Either the outer worlds are all as overrun with Hive and Vex and other horrors as the inner ones are, and we just don't get a chance to see it... or whatever's out there is enough to deter the Hive, Vex, Cabal, and the City from taking interest.

Them being absent doesn't mean necessarily mean good things.

Or maybe their focus on the Light, either to serve or oppose, prevents them from seeing the bigger picture. Either way, no one will really care about what would happen outside the asteroid belt for such is outside their sphere of influence. As for whatever lies beyond the belt, it is unlikely to be as bad as what we know is in the inner systems.

The Vex have mapped entire galaxies, and the Hive have claimed thousands of worlds. Anything outside their sphere of influence within the system is either as powerful as they or exists purely at their whim.

Besides, the Vex and the Hive aren't even focused on the light. It seems as far as that's concerned, they've written the Traveler off for dead.

Actually was born in the middle of Winter, for your information. Also, where is your spirit of adventure? We have a chance to boldly go where no one has gone before so why shouldn't we take it?

Because at its core, Destiny is not a space opera, even if it has the trappings of one.

Destiny is a Lovecraft-lite horror story. The 'lite' being because there are people given power by a half-dead eldritch abomination that lets them punch the other, less polite eldritch abominations in the snout.

We are not one of those people, and said nice-half dead god's power ends at the asteroid belt.

[X] Explore the planets and moons of the outer solar system

I can understand the whole 'let's not go into the great void from which no one has returned' biking why the fuck would we go to Earth? Legions of murderhobos who take offense at our existence? Super powerful AI? Other Eliksni? It's the absolute worst mentality we can have; that of scavengers. That's already the mindset of all other Fallen, the one we're trying to overcome. We can't build or truly grow on Earth. The Guardians and the Devils won't let us, all we can do is lurk in the shadows for bits of scrap.

So fuck being just another scavenger digging in the dirt for scraps, we'll forge our own path.

Was it planets and moons of the outer solar system which came second in the last vote?

If yes, then

Who are these 'Nine' I keep hearing about? Are they the Jovians?

They're... a thing.

They inhabit the Jovian regions, but beyond that, nothing is known: Contact is maintained solely through Xur, who is pained by the Traveler's Light and cannot adequately describe his Masters in the City's tongue.

In-universe theories abound about who or what they might be, from ancient beings that inhabit the seas of Titan and Europa, an intelligent language, or even shattered aspects of the Darkness itself.

The information we have on the Nine, apart from Xur's cryptic commentary, is summarized in (appropriately enough) nine theories that apparently circulate in-universe. Nobody knows which are possibly true however.

  • Survivors of the cis-Jovian colonies who made a compact with an alien force to ensure their own survival.
  • Deep-orbit warminds who weathered the Collapse in hardened stealth platforms.
  • Ancient leviathan intelligences from the seas of Europa or the hydrocarbon pits of Titan.
  • Beings that arrived in a mysterious transmission from the direction of the Corona-Borealis supercluster.
  • The firstborn Awoken and their minds now race down the field lines of the Jupiter-Io flux tube.
  • Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause.
  • Aspects of the Darkness, broken by the Traveler's rebuke, working to destroy us from within.
  • A viral language of pure meaning.
  • The shadows left by the annihilation of a transcendent shape, burned into the weft of what is.
Mara Sov maintains regular contact with them apparently, but apart from Xur nobody really knows anything about them. But I would say we would be wise to step lightly around them.

The most terrifying possibility of all is that those are ALL true, with each theory describing one member of The Nine. If so, any Fallen who'd try to mess with them in any way would never be heard from again.
