"Only one man would dare use Somerset jamming techniques on
me. ADAM STEINER!" – Nicolai Malthus, The Somerset Strikers series,
broadcast 08/12/3052 (actual source is the BattleMech Manual's Guardian ECM entry) :p
Right, so you've got IS cartoon characters whose deal is beating Clanners because they do dumb Clanner shit, which you figure is a pretty big advantage against the Clanner equivalent of Paw Patrol. :V

OTOH, the only canon(??) specs we have on a Clan Spaniel vehicle is a 10 ton mech that holds 36 tons of weaponry, has five different ECCM systems, and goes 162 kph, so my money's on them anyway. :V

Nicolai's behaviour in the cartoon was actually considered, in universe, fairly true to life by his associates in the Jade Falcons; exaggerated, sure, but in detail rather than nature. :p (and, when he tried to bring a Trial of Grievance against Adam for "ruining his reputation", Nicolai got shunted into the Lyran courts, and ended up spending six months in jail for threatening a judge)

EDIT - Now that I'm home, the relevant quotes. First from Recognition Guide 3;

Star Colonel Nicolai Malthus: Often described as a "bastard and a half" by those both within and outside Clan Jade Falcon, Nicolai's gloating arrogance made him few allies. Though Adam Steiner's infamous holodrama based around the exploits of the Somerset Strikers during the Invasion portrayed a somewhat exaggerated version of Nicolai, those who knew him claimed it was not too far off the mark. Nicolai lost much prestige after failing to run down Adam Steiner, and for losing enough equipment to vault the NAIS' R&D department ahead by decades. His fate after his disgrace is still not known outside the Falcon high command.

And Battletech: Legends;

Adam Steiner went on to become Archon of the Lyran Commonwealth, and was lionized in a holodrama that depicted Malthus as a screaming, bumbling idiot. In 3063, Malthus demanded a Trial of Grievance against Steiner and the production company, claiming that their inaccurate portrayal of him cost his status as a Jade Falcon. Informed that he would have to file the proper paperwork in Lyran courts to obtain a trial, Malthus inadvertently found himself in the middle not of a Circle of Equals, but a most unusual lawsuit. The case was eventually thrown out of court, and Malthus was detained for threatening the judge after the jurist refused his batchall. After six months in a Steiner prison, Malthus was repatriated to a Clan that no longer had any use for him, save for one man.
