The Great and Terrible (Dark Souls/Multi)

Absorbing lightning is likely to be of much lesser utility than being able to wield it (which is presumably what Storm Dancer does), since not that many beings in Lordran actually incorporate lightning into their repertoire.

And besides, the Black Knights were the greatest knights of Gwyn, and likely some of the most skilled users of the lightning spear miracle series. Getting that back for our Black Knight would be a huge accomplishment, since to all indications they lost the ability to wield miracles along with their bodies when the First Flame incinerated them.
I'm not entirely convinced that Storm Dancer will do that, but more importantly I just find the embracing lightning image very powerful and badass, and so am not changing my vote.

Those are fair points, I just care more about the visceral appeal I see there at the moment.

For the sake of clarity, in brief:

[Trait Gained: Storm Dancer]
Wield lightning
[Trait Gained: Spell Parrying]
Parry lightning
[Trait Gained: Lightning Absorption]
Heal via lightning
[Trait Gained: Soul Nullification]
Destroy lightning

Note: There might be secondary effects or applications to any or all of these, but this is just what's immediately relevant for the context of the boss battle. Some of the secondary effects I feel might be obvious upon further investigation, but rest assured, there are no trap votes. All will be equally useful going forward.

[X] Dropped the sword to catch it. [Trait Gained: Storm Dancer]

[X] Fully repaired armor would be top priority, so they'd wait until it was done.
-[X] See if any use can be found in the corpse of the Titanite Demon.
-[X] Locate a suitable suit of armor to possess.
--[X] Go beat up a stone golem and posses it.

[X] Dropped the sword to catch it. [Trait Gained: Storm Dancer]
[X] Waiting for repairs would take too long, they'd just figure it out themselves.

-[X] Follow the Arinn on her quest.
-[X] See if any use can be found in the corpse of the Titanite Demon.

Waifu and Boss drops, we are using Gamer logic after all.

Gonna get out an update in a few hours, and possibly another after that, so any last minute votes or changes should get in by then.

...in addition to the healing, can the Lightning absorption somehow repair the armor too? *hopes for weird game logic*

The armor is the MC.
Steel is their flesh. Kilnflames are their blood.
When they think, they think in spirit and lightning and fire.
When they act, they act in black godsteel and violence.

The healing would apply to the demigod wraith and any vessel they are inhabiting.

Tally as I'm seeing it:

Storm Dancer: 6
Spell Parrying: 1
Lighting Absorption: 2

Wait: 6
  • Fight Stone Golem: 3
  • Look for Dead Golem: 2
  • Scavenge for Armor: 1
  • Look for Sword: 2
  • Titanite Demon Corpse: 4
Leave: 2
  • Follow the Arinn: 2
  • Titanite Demon Corpse: 2
Not calling it yet.

I'd like to ask people voting to beat up a stone golem to switch to finding a dead one. We killed three just recently, there's no need to go picking a fight with a live one.

Still set on this.

But yeah...

Can we possess armor that people are wearing?

It hasn't been attempted before. You're welcome to try.
The Arinn is right there after all...
Calling the vote. Depending on laziness/fiancée asking me to play Souls 3 with her, there will be a small series of votes either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Actually, what counts as possessable armor in general? Like, could we possess just a boot and hop around everywhere? How 'bout someone's hairband? A flying castle? :3

MC is a prideful, angry demigod of war and murder who possessed their own suit of armor in the middle of a war just so they could keep fighting. So.

If it helps with that, it's applicable. If it offends their pride or harms their ability to fight, it's not.

Yeah, I hope she survives, and doesn't have to roll for that or anything. I just want to meet her again, when we're in top form and can be suitably impressive as repayment for her kind of carrying us through those two battles.

At least, I think we got carried through those two battles, the prose was a little weird there.

Working on depicting action without lapsing into purple prose, apologies.

Tl;dr: nearly crippled knight talks shit and gets hit

It seemed fairly clear to me. The Black Knight was picking fights it didn't really have the ability to win in the state it was in, and required assistance to finish of its foes.

There were 3 stone guardians, if you recall; the BK needed help ending one, which means Arinn did two herself before finishing off the one fighting the BK. Keeping in mind that canonically Arinn would've perma-died against all 3 without the assistance of the BK, it's still a good indicator that the BK wasn't really up to soloing that fight. The titanite demon seemed a bit more even in the distribution of damage the BK and Arinn dealt, though again, neither would've likely been able to win on their own.

I wouldn't say this is an indicator that our Black Knight is a weakling, so much as one regarding just how badly damaged it is; limping from at least one busted leg, missing one arm entirely, and a body blasted by sorcery and smashed around by physical impacts, and with help it still managed to put up a fight against a totally fresh stone guardian unarmed, and kill a titanite demon with an inferior weapon.
