The Cerdicings of Britannia: A Crusader Kings 2 Succession Game

I'm in the process of uploading/captioning the next update, that covers around seventeen years or so. I should have it done sometime tonight.

@Zooboss, my character's heir just came of age, and as you will be playing him I wanted to get your ok on setting up a marriage for him. The person I was looking at is the seventeen year old princess of Lombardy, with a weak inheritable claim on that kingdom. She's the sister of the current king of Lombardy. If we want to aim for forming the HRE, this would likely be just what is needed. Should I go ahead with this, or leave him unmarried?
Lombard princess sounds good.

Nice work! The heir is looking great. We should keep track of that bastard Strong child though and see if we can generate some Strong characters to be commanders or to breed back into the line. Good job conquering France as well. I wonder why the Byzantine Empire is so successful this time around? It might be tied in to Lombardy's success in Tripolitana and the Shia Caliphate's success in Sumeria eating into the moral authority and power of the Sunni Caliphate. Facing three powerful threats absorbing Sunni land, maybe they just can't fight off Byzantium.

Question! Is there plans for this data to be transferred over to any of the "future" or "modern" games, as I know that can be done? I'm extremely chrious to see the history of this world reach the modern day.

CK2 ends at 1453, and I think that you can port it to Europa Universalis at that point. I don't know if the exporter software is out for the latest version and for M&M but there's no reason why we couldn't do it. If nothing else, the saves are all posted online so anyone can grab it when we're done and play a continuation. I don't personally own EU so I can't do it but someone else may take up the torch.

Eu4 starts in 1444, you can just stop at that time and use the converter to export it into eu4 quite easily.

I've recently exported my Robert de Bruce campaign into Eu4 with little trouble.

Hey @Jorlem hope things are going well on your end. We've been on your turn for a couple of weeks now, what's the status?
Sorry, been somewhat busy this week. Among other things, I've emailing with imgur's tech support, to try to find if there is a better/easier way to do albums. (Also, got slightly distracted by Stellaris.) I'm currently making my way through part 3, and should have that up sometime later today.

AAR Turn 7, Jorlem as Ælfwald Cerdicing Part 3
Sorry again for the delay. Here is the third part:

That last part was really fun to write. I knew exactly what I was going to do as soon as I got that first mystic personality altering event in conjunction with the witch hunt.

Here's the upload of the save, let me know if you need me to upload it somewhere else.

Nice work, Jorlem! It can't have been easy riding out the black plague. I wonder if it ever returns, or if that's it for it. -60% everything in all counties is rough, recovery is slow. As is historical I guess.

Here's the updated queue, looks like @Zooboss is next.

Played it really well, for a second I thought you were King Solomon of Jeruselam considering how out of it you got. All you were missing was a harem and your first wife being dead.

Heh. As I said, that ending was really fun to both play and write the captions for. Wasn't expecting things to go that way, but I'm kinda glad it did. Made for a great story.

AAR Turn 8, Zooboss as Julius Cerdicing

Sorry for the short sparse summaries, but I kinda get distracted by playing.

Anyway, I managed to join the Crusade for Iberia and win the title which may have involved some amount of assassination and rebellion encouragement to get the other Catholics to back away enough for warscore to dip low enough that I could siege and win only after I took the lead in warscore.

The vassal limit started messing with me, so I had to form Kingdoms to manage things better. This unfortunately makes bribes more expensive with kings on the council.

After taking Andalusia, I took Portucale and Castille from what remained of the Umayyads and formed Merchant republics out of them. The money proves very useful as do the boats. This increased threat which made me use up marriages to set non-aggression pacts to prevent major players from joining the defensive pact. I did manage to keep threat under 50% though.

Finally major play of the game was claiming Sweden. I would've liked Lombardy, but wife lived the entire playthrough and thus no claim. Weak claims for other germanic kingdoms weren't able to be pressed and neither was mother's claim to the Byzantine Empire. Although one of the sons now should get a claim via his wife.

Save game.

So besides conquering modern day Spain and Portugal during a Crusade, this was a rather uneventful era of Britananian history. *feels like a pompus college history professor*

Wow, the Iberian peninsula for us as well as Sweden. Not bad, Zooboss! We're gradually taking over everything!

Here's the updated queue, looks like @stratigo is next.

alright! I'll DL the save and start playin tomorrow.

Though, I might go on a renaming spree. I mean, we're anglo saxon, not some poncy celtic briton. The heck are we naming ourselves Camelot? Brytenwalda, that's the way!

The World in 1006 AD
The world in 1006 AD

In 1006 AD, the Cerdicings control Britannia, the greatest realm both by number of holdings and the size of its levy. With holdings in Iberia, northern France, Sweden, and all of the British Isles, there are few polities that can match it for strength: The remnants of the Roman Empire have expanded and held on to much of their land, but are pressed up against the might Shia Caliphate in Syria in the east. Lombardy remains strong, controlling much of Africa as well as the Italian peninsula. The Shia Caliphate itself is also mighty. Other than that, basically nobody else punches in Britannia's weight class, having fewer than 20,000 soldiers. It's possible the Sunni Caliphate could rally, but we'll have to see. They're likely still reeling from the Crusade for Iberia.

The Cerdicing Dynasty is sprawling, with over 60 members spanning several generations and scattered among various kingdoms, duchies, and counties. With the great prestige and mighty empire, it is said they are at the height of their power. Soon, however, they will have to turn their eyes to their only true peers in the east: Lombardy, which has conquered Africa, and the Roman Empire, which has expanded both East and West.

Actually, it's kind of interesting how well both of these realms have done. Lombardy rarely gets this big, and the Byzantines normally have all kinds of weird border gore and collapse going on. Somehow, the Byzantines have actually grown and swallowed up both de jure territory and some neighbors. Not bad at all!

We aren't Camelot, at least anymore. That ended during my character's reign, as he was a bit obsessed with Britannia's Roman legacy, and took to renaming things to what he thinks the Romans called them. (He also had a Learning stat of 5.)

In any case, your character should gain a claim on Lombardy when your mother dies, and once you control Lombardy you'll be able to form the HRE.

Were you able to follow through with getting our dynasty member as the king of Scotland/Pictland? Also, I'm glad to see how my setting up that marriage alliance with Sweden worked out.

Technically we're French.

Uo-something was assassinated before I could Grant him the kingdom. I ended up marrying one of my sons to the duchess of Moray and giving her the crown instead.

AAR Turn 9, stratigo as Ælfwald II Cerdicing Part 1
well that went by fast.

It's great being a gouty idiot XD.

But I think I have been the most impactful ruler to date. MWAHAHAHAHA.

So let us start.

This is an image heavy post, so I spoilered it.

It appears I am both Gouty AND dull! But otherwise have pretty alright stats. Probably aided by my collection of hermetic relics. Also the AI autoassigns you the worst relics, so every ruler has to re equip their good shit (tm)

So not too bad. Let's check the state of the.... wait a second.... WHY AM I FRENCH! WHY IS LONDON FRENCH!

Oh there are gonna be some tears over this

But first things first, let's Optimize!

It's like you people don't know defense retinue is the best retinue outside the italians and scots, which we aren't. We're French. Why French? Did Rufus steal your computer? (Yes, obviously, I know why we're french, but that doesn't explain WHY we're french). Anywho, rebuilding our retinue is gonna take sime time. Also, you didn't pour all our miltech into retinue buffing... I mean military organization. That's silly of you.

So then what will I be doing this sessi.... oh what's this now?

Oh

OH HO

OH HOHOHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA

For a too long didn't read of the above

Also I just deleted the second half of my post. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Anywho, here's the link to the game. The rest of my playthrough will come when I'm not kicking myself

We know what the mathematically optimal choices are. That doesn't mean we shouldn't RP. Also, the French get knights, knights are cool. (I mean, they aren't elephants or cataphracts, but still.)
