The Bloody Gates: A Penal Legion Meatgrinder (WH40k)

Alright, so yeah. My ranged options aren't really great, so I think we'd be better served by me running up to take my Chain Grinder to the heretic squad leader while you hose the other militia down with lead.

Should save the grenade for when we need to flush out another pillbox or machine gun nest or something.

Hmm, so we used up the frags in my ammo pack? Must of misremembered them getting used over the last few engagements. I don't know, about you charging in though since if they decide to all go after you in melee I imagine my chances of hitting you on accident could be a problem.

Edit: I guess it would rely on killing one or two before you get to them, them splitting up to go after the both of us, or doing well with firing into melee

That's why you shoot while we've got the drop on them. It won't be the first time I'll have been fighting surrounded on all sides in melee, flak armour really can make all the difference.

My bad, I forgot you are in fact actually carrying the pack.

Then yeah, it should have four grenades in it.

Hmm, not gunna lie part of me wants to try and throw a rock or something to distract the preacher long enough for Celine to scuttle out of there but I don't like my chances of hitting. I guess the next best thing would be to throw a grenade with the pin still in it and hope that 1. The Heretic dosn't notice the pin and 2. Actually cares to run for it

Edit: also probably don't have the time to grab a gernade, and Celine ain't likely scuttling anywhere. With the likelihood I get my behind kicked in melee the best bet is probably just prey to the god Emperor and fire

@greendoor is it possible for me to attempt to shove her away from melee range, so Albert can light her up with the Heavy Stubber?

Yes, you could Grapple her and then attempt to force her into Albert's line of fire (While you remain in cover), but it's very unlikely to work while you're prone. You'll need to get up first, successfully grapple her, and then do so.

Dangerous probably because she'll be trying to stab you the whole time, but certainly an option if you survive next turn.

Edit: Actually, my bad. Manuever is also an option to force her to move into Albert's line of fire, which is a lot easier since it skips the 'Have to grapple her first' part, and is just an opposed Ws Test. Still will almost certainly fail while you are prone though.

It just occurred to me, that I have a whole lasgun I looted back at the dam. Could I go back to the loyalist Hive Militia squad and trade that in for stuff as my preparations for the assault? Since that's not part of standard kit for me, the Commissar shouldn't notice.

Probably couldn't Hurt. You could probably grab some pretty good kit for it that'll help you survive the assault like extra armor or more smoke grenades

Sweet! A stimm! Is anyone down one?
Dont think Holmgaard has a pack item so he can carry the ladder
Unless someone else wants to carry it

I'm good on the pack, I still have the ammo and a few grenades in my pack to bring with us. I'll have to double check on the nades to see how many though

So, the best path, imo, seems to be the round about with cover. If we could smoke gernade before we get there and then once we leave the field I think we would have the best chance of getting through. Does anyone else agree or disagree?

Also does anyone look like they need frag grenades? I can make a quick post handing out grenades if need be.

As a note, you can choose to take a different route* from the rest of the squad if you wish, the one Cheri chooses is just the default I'm assuming anyone who doesn't post is taking.

Also, I'm pushing the update back to tomorrow night to give a bit more time for folks to post.

*(If you're especially fast or tough, just rushing the gates from the front might be better, for example)

well this is a right pickle, unfortunately I'll probably be going forwards since turning around while having a backpack full of ammo and grenades sounds like a very bad idea. That and I honestly don't know if Albert would have the situational awareness to notice whats going on behind him

Forgot to ping the appropriate people in the IC thread, so @xjax1 @Kensai @Easter @Shephard @AbstractTraitor @Sir_Travelsalot @Svend

Update is live. It went better than you than I thought it would, but that doesn't mean it went well.
Does Cheri still have the smoke grenades, since I don't recall her actually handing them over to anyone? Follow-up question to that then is, could I take one from her webbing as a free action?

My rough plan is to run to her with a half-action move, pop smoke, and then start applying tourniquets and whatnot.

I presume based on her projected action she wasn't holding both. Given you're the one with the Grenadier talent, I'm gonna assume you have one of them, and Cheri probably has the other one.

You could set the grenade off as a free action, since you're not actually throwing it presumably, just dropping it at cheri's foot.

This is fairly workable, yeah. Especially since I forgot Cheri's Gallow's humor talent activates, which would remove one of your fatigue and put you back at a -5 penalty.

@Sir_Travelsalot I'm working on the update, and I realized I need some clarification from you.

To clarify, is your plan to run to Cheri, first aid her, and then run for the Gate? Or try to carry Cheri with you (Very risky, but it'd improve her chances)?

Or are you going to stay near Cheri in no man's land (this also has some serious personal risks, but it'd also improve Cheri's chances)?

@xjax1 @Easter

Seeing as both your characters are currently disabled and in varying likelihoods to die on the battlefield, would you like to take the opportunity to swap over to a backup character (Or make one, in Easter's case)? You still can play your primaries in Part 4 if they survive, this would just be for the rest of the Assault into the Gates.

@AbstractTraitor You haven't really posted in 6 months, so this is your warning. You can switch over to your backup if you want, but if you want to remain in this game you need to post something.

would enjoy that yeah, ill have to roll up a backup character, i deleted mine ages ago since Cheri was faring much better than expected, looking forwards to getting to play her again in act 4 tho! honestly didn't expect her to survive that, even with getting bandaged.

There's still a chance she dies, since there's every chance your position gets hit by a shell or something similar, but it's not high now that she's been bandaged and moved to good cover. I won't put a precise number on it yet but you surviving is very likely, but not guarenteed.
