The Abolitionist (Honorverse/Gamer SI)

Lets... agree this chapter was a joke and we will see the actual Ch9 soon?
It would be illogical if by the timeline start you are not considered a starnation in your own right by dint of firepower, intelligence etc...
Nevermind, the MC seem to have fallen from every branch on the dumbass tree.

Yall seem to be under the illusion that the MC is starting out as a badass or even the smartest person in the room. he's not, but that's what character development is for

I am also insulted that you think I don't have a plan beyond taking a fart on my keyboard and posting what comes up. I do have a plan and the MC making mistakes is part of it. and its not like anything time sensitive or important was going on at the time he went into the trance.

now excuse me while I rewrite chapter 10, the site ate my draft

Yeah, the MC of The Gamer was a combat monster in a few months of lazy training.

Lazy training. The dude went straight days of combat. He grinded for atleast 12 hours a day. It is in no way lazy.

Chapter 10
--John--
"Kid you've been in your stupid trance for seven straight months"

Looking at him he looks to the side for a bit before saying "Bullshit!" Its gonna be one of those days, I can just tell.

"No really, its been seven months. Are you really that moronic?"

"But it's only midnight." He says pointing at the clock.

"Midnight seven months and a few days after you went all slackbodied" I can just feel the migraine coming on.

"But... But you said you would wake me up! What happened to that?"

"We tried! We shook you a bit, slapped you, poured a bucket of cold water on you, held you upside down, spun you on a table," and vetoed Mira's suggestion. That was just in bad taste. "Anything else was deemed too risky to try. So we just stuck you in a locked, minimal power room, and checked up on you every couple of days."

The guard chose this moment to chime in himself "Hold on, is this about that stupid betting pool you guys got going on?"

Turning over to the guard, the kid goes from slightly contrite to cold, calculating, and eager in under a second "Could I get in on that betting pool? I like money."

"First of all no, the pool was when you would wake up or not. You're already awake now and entering now would be cheating. Second of all. You" Pointing at the guard "go sound the all clear from your end, and contact Charles and tell him the kid woke up." Then I can go back to bed.

"What am I gonna do now?"

"Go to sleep?" Please?

"I just took a seven month nap. Could I get a lot of reading material about computers instead?" Jesus Christ, I just wanna go back to bed!

--Peter--
John looked tired back there

Managed to get a datapad from him though, with a whole shitload of general science with an emphasis on Computer systems and security. So no sticking to the walls repeatedly for me. On second thought I should just do that now to help me level the skill up.

Anyway, the technology here is amazing! Molecular circuitry computers, antigravity engines, significant advances in materials research, and household cold fusion reactors. I was worried at first about the cold fusion reactors because nuclear power is scary where I come from, but the output is way too low to explode in any capacity. I read that the bigger reactors can have more to worry about, but from what I gather those are specialty use. This means that Power is dirt cheap, 'cause all you need is Hydrogen. I am in no way worried about that exploding, because while it could be destructive, it wouldn't be nearly as bad as an oil spill.

Downside is that I'll have to work really hard to do damage to anything. I'm no expert, but having everything made out of endgame materials is gonna put a huge damper on doing damage to anything or anyone designed to take a hit. Or anything really. This means I'm gonna have to find different ways to leverage my abilities other than pure damage.

Sticking to the wall till my mana ran out didn't level anything up this time. Back to reading for me.

Computer Use has leveled up by 7

Due to a special action a new skill has been generated: Computer Security level 7

Due to a special action a new skill has been generated: Computer Engineering level 3

Due to a special action a new skill has been generated: General Engineering level 8

"7AM BREAKFAST ALARM BREAKFAST WILL STOP BEING SERVED IN AN HOUR AND A HALF"

Holy shit did I sleep through that for 7 months? Or did they up the volume on my alarm for the giggles? Well I got through a good few chapters, and I am impressed with how robust network security protocols have gotten. It'll take like 7 times the effort to break through the standard networking protocol here than a TCP network back home. Granted that boils down to 7 times the wait as the specialized hacker program cracks the network code, but that's only the basic network setup. And I will benefit to know all the baseline things before I try to crack any custom security. Surprised I only got to level 3 on Computer Engineering. a good 75% of everything I read was how to put computer components together.

Peeking my head out the door I see some people filtering out of their rooms to the stairwell. looking to the nearest guy I call out "How does breakfast work around here?"

I see one guy take a look at me and light up "Holy shit I won" and then run over to the stairwell in glee. A couple guys looked disappointed at that but no one looked like they were gonna tell me shit. I walk up to the nearest guy still standing around and ask

"How does breakfast work around here, do I have to pay or be a member or something?" Gotta remember not to swear. People find it jarring when kids swear.

He looks around "You talkin to me kid?" I nod "Well if you're here you're useful enough for breakfast and dinner, lunch is on your dime during your shift of whatever you do. This will also be 3rd shift's dinner so try not to be too anoying up there."

"Do you know where the quartermaster or whoever is? I'm not really sure what I'm gonna be doing here."

He looks at me "You look like one of Mira's recruits, did she bring you in?"

"I don't know I was unconscious at the time."

"Definitely one of Mira's recruits then. You're gonna wanna go get breakfast and then ask her and John where to go."

"Thanks." I say as I walk to the stairwell. Questionable recruiting practices aside, the guy was very helpful. I should've asked his name. Oh well I got food to pretend to eat.

Coming Soon!

Lol. Everyone just casually accepts kid-you is here as a recruit, or has no questions about the trance.

Someone is going to notice when you arent turning back in plates and flatware. Though the point when you offer up a pudding cup or something to cheer someone up is going to be funny.

Apparently Mira has a history of abducting recruiting people while they are unconscious, so random people showing up with no clue how they got here is not unusual.
